American Idol Ratings Beats the Wednesday Competition

Fast overnight ratings for Wednesday’s Idol, via Marc Berman:

-Ratings Breakdown:
Fox, of course, got over the Wednesday …hump in winning fashion care of old faithful American Idol, which was just chock full of silly drama last night. ABC and CBS tied for the No. 2 spot, with CBS a distant second in total viewers and ABC a distant No. 2 among adults 18-49.

American Idol kicked-off the evening with a hefty 26.26 million viewers and a 9.9 rating/27 share among adults 18-49 from 8-9 p.m. Comparably, that was close to levels from one year earlier. American Idol, in fact, beat the four competing networks combined by 7.06 million viewers and 90 percent among adults 18-49. Take a look:

-Wednesday 8 p.m.
American Idol (Fox) ‘ Viewers: 26.26 million (#1), A18-49: 9.9/27 (#1)
Criminal Minds R (CBS) ‘ Viewers: 8.54 million (#2), A18-49: 1/7/ 4 (#3t)
Knight Rider (NBC) ‘ Viewers: 4.94 million (#3), A18-49: 1.4/ 4 (#4)
Lost R (ABC) ‘ Viewers: 4.80 million (#4), A18-49: 1.7/ 5 (#3t)
Privileged R (CW) ‘ Viewers: 920, 000 (#5), A18-49: 0.4/ 1 (#5)

It’s hard to compare the numbers to Season 7–Hollywood week was only 1 week last year, and the Wednesday show revealed the Top 24. That 1 hour episode garnered 24.8M viewers, and a 9.8/26 share in the demo.
