American Idol News Roundup for 08/16/08

A couple of Idol related items for you today

Season 2 finalist, and ex David Cook gal pal, Kimberly Caldwell will be hosting the new MTV show,   P. Diddy Starmaker, premiering tonight at 10 pm on MTV.   On the show, contestants will “showcase their talents to some of the top names in the music industry as they vie for the ultimate prize: an exclusive recording contract from Bad Boy Records and a career launch supervised by Diddy.”   Kim’s duties will probably entail hanging around the contestants’ house (yes, they will all live together) reading a lamo script off a teleprompter. Ooo Whee!

Season 7 Idol finalist, Chikezie Eze twittered the news he’ll be appearing on the ABC soap, General hospital, “Ugh I had my first session with a personal trainer… Gotta look good for GENERAL HOSPITAL!!!!! I’ll be taping in mid-september’ ¦ and I WILL be singing’ ¦ What shall I sing? It’ll be a surprise!”

Season 6 runner-up, Blake Lewis spent the weekend shooting the video for his single “Sad Song.” The leading lady? Season 8 Top 36 contestant, Casey Carlson was Blake’s choice to co-star. Check out the pic.   Blake also got to drive a really cool vintage Triumph.

Josiah Leming, the Season 7 contestant who, despite not making the Top 24, managed to land a deal with a major record label anyway, just posted some new music on his MySpace. Check it out here.   “Lovely” co-written with Better than Ezra’s Kevin Griffin is lovely.   Also, tour dates! Right here.   He’s been working on an album for Warner Brothers…without a release date.   What’s up with that? Josiah is one of my favorite Idol losers…

Wondering what’s next for Season 7 finalist Jason Castro? He’s in the studio, recording his debut album to be released on Atlantic records. But, to learn more, check out Jason’s live webchat on Tuesday August 18 at 6 pm. Send your questions to Jason’s twitter.   He’ll answer as many as he can during the chat on his official website, JasonCastroMusic.com

Season 5 contestant, Elliot Yamin twittered bad news to his fans yesterday, “Due to unforseen circumstances beyond my control, I regret to inform everybody that my tour is being postponed to a date yet 2 b determined.” Sads. (I didn’t know he was planning to tour. I hope it’s not because his album has had disappointing sales…)

Season 7 runner-up, David Archuleta’s Christmas album is now available for pre-order!   It’s called Christmas From The Heart and has a release date set for October 13.   Pre-order at Amazon.com HERE.
