The American Idol Top 7 will celebrate Mother’s Day on Sunday (May 8) with guest mentor Wil.i.am. The Black Eyed Peas member will join judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan to help contestants get ready for competition.

For the first time this season, the remaining contestants will perform two songs. The main theme will feature the singers dedicating songs to their mothers or to the mother figure in their lives. In the second, the singers will choose a viral Tik Tok song to perform.

Who will cover Tik Tok star Lauren Spencer-Smith’s smash hit “Fingers Crossed”? Somebody will! Lauren competed on American Idol season 18, leaving the competition at the Top 24. Meanwhile, the Mother’s Day theme has become a staple in the American Idol ABC era, and can be quite emotional.

Will.i.am no stranger to reality TV

Wil.i.am is no stranger to reality shows. He’s practically made a career out of appearing on them. On season 11 of American Idol in 2012, he appeared as the Top 12 guest mentor. He went on to be a permanent judge on The Voice UK and The Voice Kids Uk. Will also served as mentor on The Voice Australia and The Voice US (2019). He appeared as an artist looking for his next single on NBC’s Songland in 2019. His latest reality show gig was in 2021 as a judge on the FOX singing show Alter Ego, which had contestants appear as electronic avatars in front of the panel.

American Idol season 20 closes in on the finale

The remaining contestants are: Fritz Hager, Leah Marlene, Jay Copeland, HunterGirl, Noah Thompson, Nicolina Bozzo and Christian Guardino.

The American Idol 2022 Top 7 episode airs live coast to coast on Sunday April 8 on ABC at 8 pm ET/5 PM PT. Viewers can vote throughout the show up until after the last commercial break. Host Ryan Seacrest will announce the Top 5 contestants at the end of the show.

The Top 5 will compete on Sunday May 15 for a chance to compete in the American Idol season 20 finale on May 22, when a winner will be crowned

On Monday (May 2), American Idol aired its last Monday show of the season, featuring a celebration of the last 20 seasons of the iconic show.
