  1. no way to spin this. idol still wins against the competition, but these numbers are terrible. 19mil on a results night… this show’s awfulness is showing in the ratings, and once it gets there with regularity, all the denial and spin won’t stop folks from figuring out the truth.

  2. Does anyone know how that compares to last year’s rating?

Maybe when Kris and Adam go on they will get higher ratings.

I hope so. Sadly (for me, for you), the Biebster will bring in higher ratings too, probably.

I almost had another thought, that I was worried for the guys appearing too late in the AI season, since the ratings seem to be slipping each week. It almost would have been better to appear on the show earlier in the season, before too many fans bailed.

  4. Ever week from here until Top 3 I bet the ratings continue to decline UNLESS they get a major star as a mentor/performer. Then they might get a boost. And I doubt Adam or Kris returning will affect the ratings much at all.

  5. Maybe when Kris and Adam go on they will get higher ratings

The ratings were also down last year compared to the previous year. I don’t know if the decline is particularly sharp this year.

  6. And I doubt Adam or Kris returning will affect the ratings much at all.

I totally agree. On the results show where David Cook came back, Idol had one of its lowest rating ever, and Cook had Kesha. If they want to increase ratings, I think they should focus on guests who are hot on Top 40 NOW and not just invite people back because they were former contestants.

  7. I really like that they bring former contestants back. I just don’t think that will do much for the ratings. If people are tired of the show and not into the contestants, there’s not much someone singing one song can do to change that.

  8. They don’t seem to really be advertising the musical guests all that much. I don’t think Cook was advertised at all being that he found out he was going to be on the show about 4 days beforehand. So Cook fans just got lucky that night if they didn’t read the internet before the show.

  9. This year is just terrible.
For me (for you), Crystal and Lee are worth tuning in for. Last year, at this stage (top 10), I was looking forward to performances by Kris, Adam, Alli, Matt, and Anoop. Also, considering this year’s crop, I even even miss Gokey and Megan.

  10. While the declining ratings do indicate that this season isn’t doing so well, it’s still the #1 show of the night. Not bad at all.

  11. Idol “dips into the teens?” tsk tsk Idol! OHHHH – you mean nineTEEN, sorry couldnt resist, ok going to get my head out of gutter right now

  12. Not many people really invested in this season. With no voting results numbers being announced since Top 16 night, there must be extremely poor numbers. Without the viewers becoming invested in the contestants, ratings will suffer.

  13. Unless you are hyper-invested in the show, there seems to be little reason to watch the results show live. I always come here to find out what happened anyway. I don’t need to sit through lame filler. If something really spectacular happens, I can find the vid of it online somewhere. I tivo the results show, but more often than not, I delete that without even bothering to watch it.

Surely, I’m not the only one in America doing the same.
