On Monday (Dec 4) American Idol season 3 winner Fantasia dropped by Live with Kelly and Ryan to perform the classic “This Christmas” from her jazzy new holiday album Christmas After Midnight.
“I always wanted to do a Christmas album,” Fantasia said in a recent interview with the St. Louis Dispatch. “I would always go to the label and ask, ‘Why don’t I have a Christmas album?’ But God didn’t want me to do it then.”
After a long run post-Idol run on RCA records, the singer is now releasing music on independent label, Concord. “I can do things I always wanted to do,” she said. “Not to down the label, but it was just time for me to go.”
Besides “This Christmas,” the new record includes classics such as “Jingle Bell Rock,” “Baby, It’s Cold Outside,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” “Silent Night,” and the James Brown epic, “Santa Claus Go Straight to the Ghetto.”

Unfortunately, the day the singer performed on Live, Kelly Ripa’s co-host, Ryan Seacrest was absent, depriving fans of yet another American Idol reunion.
