American Idol hopefuls audition in Annapolis – ANNAPOLIS — Hopeful and nervous were two words those auditioning for American Idol in Annapolis on Tuesday, Sept. 5, used to describe themselves while standing in line preparing to face the first round of judges in the popular show. As temperatures crept back up to the upper 80s American Idol hopefuls lined up in the parking lot of the Westfield Mall in Annapolis. The earliest contestant arrived close to 4 a.m. to get her audition in before school — Sept. 5 was also the first day back to school for many Maryland students. Dreaming big at ‘Idol’ tryout – They arrived by the hundreds Sunday, lining up outside of Rushmore Plaza Civic Center for their 90-second shot at fame. Country crooners, ukulele players, rhythm and blues singers, rappers and pop star wannabes crossed their fingers, bit back nerves and belted out the tunes before American Idol casting producer Nancy Yearing. Only the very best would get the nod to go on to Los Angeles for the second level of auditions. Cabello Going Solo – Camila Cabello, 20, spent the first years of her life going back and forth between Cuba and Mexico. When she was 6, she headed to Disney World for a vacation — at least that’s what her mom told her. Instead, she and her Cuban-born mother emigrated to Miami, where her father, a Mexico native, joined them 18 months later.
