American Idol 9 Top 5 – Who Is Going Home

On one hand, this week’s choice seems like a no-brainer, doesn’t it? Casey James easily had the worst performance of the night, completely choking in his attempt to perform the Sinatra classic, “Blue Skies.”

But not so fast. Has much gone as planned this season? Have there been more surprise boots in one season? It started with the Top 16 blood bath, when we lost Katelyn Epperly, Alex Lambert and Lilly Scott in one fell swoop.

A few weeks later, Mike Lynche was eliminated–then saved on Top 9. Finally, Siobhan Magnus took a walk last week, despite receiving positive judges’ comments, plus the pimp spot.

So really, I believe anything could happen tonight–anything.  But, what the hell, I’ll go with the conventional wisdom: Casey James will be eliminated tonight.

Casey thinks he’s heading home, as does every single Idol pundit taking part in the LA Times Buzzmeter.  Well, except for  Michael Slezak, of Entertainment Weekly, who picked Aaron Kelly. What a rebel!

Could there be a backlash against the judges tonight?  If Kara and Simon’s mocking criticism of Casey’s performance moved enough viewers to throw him a few pity votes, Casey could live to sing another day. What do you think? Who is going home tonight?
