American Idol 9 Top 5 – Frank Sinatra Week – What Should the Idols Sing?

Unlike last week’s Shania Twain songbook, I’ve got a clue when it comes to Frank Sinatra. I’m not a big Sinatra fan, but my parents sure were–jazz and standards were spun alongside the kids’ pop, R&B and rock music in my house. I know the standards pretty well.

Song stylist, Harry Connick Jr. will be mentoring the Top 5 this week, as they tackle the Frank Sinatra songbook.

He’ll also be the first Idol mentor to arrange the Idol’s music.  Ousted Idol contestant, Siobhan Magnus, told the dreamers on Friday that there would be no guitars allowed this week, so I’m thinking the kids are going strictly big band this week. The results could be interesting.

Connick will be performing on Wednesday, along with Lady Gaga (pre-taped), who will NOT be singing Sinatra (she’ll be doing some crazy shiz while performing her new single “Alejandro”)

Check out the list of songs the Idols can choose from, and then make your picks.  Here are mine, after the jump…

Crystal Bowersox –  “Someone to Watch Over Me” 0r “Blue Moon”. Both have potential to showcase her vocals.
Casey James – “Blue Skies” – If you have any doubts check this out.
Lee DeWyze –  “The Summer Wind” – Bring on the swagger, dude! (“My Kind of Town” could be a sweet ode to the hometown!)
Michael Lynche – “My Funny Valentine” – A sweet love song for Big Mike.
Aaron Kelly – “I’ve Got A Crush on You” – Sweet and age appropriate
