Here’s my power list:
1. Crystal Bowersox
2. Lee DeWyze
3. Casey James
Lee lost his number 1 spot from last week, due to his off-pitch and universally panned performance of “Kiss from a Rose”. Not even the judges liked it very much. Also, I think Lee is suffering a bit 0f the anti-pimping backlash that Crystal had been receiving. Casey is an up-and-comer, and I think folks are giving him a second look. But, Casey’s momentum is just beginning. I’m not ready to move him up the list just yet.
Really, I think at this point, this contest is anybody’s game I’ve never seen an Idol contest so up in the air at this point in all the years I’ve been an Idol watcher. Tonight’s performances are going to make or break these contestants. A misstep or a game-changing performance from any of them could determine this week’s outcome. In that respect, it makes the anticipation for tonight kind of exciting.
Crystal needs to keep doing what she’s been doing and then some. She had a great week last week. She needs to build on that returned momentum. Honestly, if she doesn’t make the final, I’m quitting this show. Well, not really. But still… Lee has to regain some momentum, and quite frankly, I’m a little concerned with Simon’s song choice for him. I don’t quite envision Lee having a moment with “Hallelujah”. Hopefully, he’s chosen well for himself.
Casey could be the dark horse if he creates another “Jealous Guy” type performance. I’m not convinced “Daughter” will be a great vehicle to do that–but the song could give him an opportunity to bust out an awesome guitar solo.
Ellen Degenres, bless her, did the best job picking a song for her charge. I’m fully expecting Crystal to kick some ass when she sings “Maybe I’m Amazed” tonight. I cannot wait!
What do you think? Who will come out on top? Who will fall by the wayside? What’s your powerlist? DISCUSS!
