American Idol 2022 Top 10/Top 7 Reveal Polls: Vote For Your Favs

(ABC/Raymond Liu) FRITZ HAGER

The annual “Disney Night” which has become a feature of American Idol on ABC is in the books. The contestants chose mostly overdone songs, but nevertheless they turned in some great performances.

The two hour show relentlessly promoted Disney properties from The Muppets, to Encarto, to Disney+. The Voice does the same with Universal releases. But no matter who does the over-promoting, it’s annoying. Also, the bit with Katy Perry in a mermaid costume was amusing at first, but as always it went too far. She thinks she’s Lucille Ball. Maybe stick to singing.

I almost forgot to post a Derek Hough poll, as a mentor he turned out to be that inconsequential. He had no vocal advice for the contestants at all, and only a little regarding stage presence and movement. Here is a guy that has performed tons of live competition shows. I expected more from him.

The right people went home

In the end, I don’t think anyone was really robbed. I would have switched Emyrson Flora for Christian Guardino. But no way he was leaving this week after that showstopper style performance. Emeryson is competing against more experienced and showy contestants. She went as far in the competition as possible. Lady K and Mike Parker couldn’t figure out who they were as artists, and often lacked confidence on stage. They both had good runs.

Terrific performances

Leah Marlene and Fritz Hager had the best performances of the night. We might be looking at the Top two right there. After stalling for a couple of weeks, HunterGirl made a comeback with a lovely performance that served as a showcase for her beautiful tone. Nicolino Bozzo made a bold and risky move, covering a “villain song.” I didn’t love it entirely, but she brought a dramatic and different flare to Disney Night–a good thing. Jay Copeland continued on the comeback trail choosing another ballad. But will he be in danger if he switches back to upbeat dance tracks?

Laine Hardy will stay in the “Great American Idol Reunion” special

Monday’s “Great Idol Reunion” is the last Monday show of the season. It’s only an hour long, and reportedly, season 17 winner Laine Hardy’s duet with Laci Kaye Booth will not be edited out of the pre-recorded special that celebrates 20 seasons of Idol, despite his recent arrest for bugging his ex-girlfriend’s dorm room. Although, I wonder if they’ll make a point to say the network previously recorded it.

OK. Now it’s time to VOTE for your favorites below. Was anybody robbed?
