American Idol aired the first Season 20 Hollywood Week promo in the middle of The Bachelor finale on Tuesday (March 15). And as producers teased in the months before the show premiered, fan favorite American Idol alums DID drop in at the Orpheum during Hollywood Week to mentor the contestants.
Three American Idol winners and a runner up all from the FOX era!
The 30 second clip features Season 2 winner Ruben Studdard, Season 7 winner David Cook, Season 6 winner Jordin Sparks and Season 10 runner-up, Lauren Alaina. In the clip, surprised contestants react to seeing their American Idol favs right in front of them.
The clip starts with a montage of singers, including Jay Copeland who the show revealed in a previous promo as a Platinum Ticket winner. He sings Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed Delivered” for judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan. His audition will be featured on Monday.
Then, the spot pivots to promoting “twentieth epic Hollywood Week” featuring shots of Ruben, David, Jordin and Lauren. “For the first time,” says Ryan Seacrest,” we’re bringing back some of Idol’s biggest stars to guide the way!”
The four alums have mentored before
All four alums have mentored on American Idol before. Most recently, Ruben, David, Jordin and Lauren mentored and duetted with the season 15 Top 24. Notably, season 15 was the last on FOX, and apparently the end of the long running show. FOX invited a slew of alums to sing with and lend advice to the current crop of contestants. For the FOX series finale later in the season dozens of alumni returned to perform and celebrate the show. It was supposed to be the end! But a year later, ABC picked rebooted the game-changing competition, and five years later, Idol celebrates another milestone.

American Idol season 20 auditions end on Sunday March 20 (Auditions 4) and Monday March 21 (Auditions 5). The Hollywood Round begins on Sunday March 27 with the Genre Challenge and Monday March 28 featuring Hollywood Duets Challenge.
