On Sunday (April 28) American Idol celebrated the music of Queen. Season 8 alum and Queen front man, Adam Lambert mentored the Top 8, and unsurprisingly, he was a terrific mentor. If American Idol is looking to fill a seat on their judges panel, they should look no further than Adam. He is really good at dispensing constructive criticism without crushing a singers dreams.
American Idol 2019 Recap: Top 8 Performances/Top 6 Reveal
Currently, American Idol airs coast to coast and that means performances, voting and eliminations happen across all time zones. As many of you predicted, Wade Cota lived to sing another day! Walker Burroughs and Alyssa Raghu were eliminated. Both had stronger performances not only on the night, but over the course of the competition. The judges didn’t use their save. I think it’s possible they won’t use it at all. I get the feeling there is a very short list of contestants they are saving it for–probably Laine Hardy, Laci Kaye Booth, Alejandro Aranda and Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon.
Queen night was definitely a mixed bag. There were some very good performances, from Laine Hardy, Laci Kaye Booth, and Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon. Madison VanDerberg also turned in a solid performance. Wade Cota and Alejandro Aranda were huge misses this week. What the heck is going on with Alejandro? The singer was completely checked out last night. He chose a Queen song–“Under Pressure”–but never fully committed to it. He phoned in a somnolent performance of “Mrs Robinson” with poor Walker Burroughs. A combo of performing first, and that terrible duet probably contributed to Walker’s elimination. Maybe Alejandro, not used to singing covers, is having second thoughts about participating in a reality show.
Next week, American Idol season 10 alum, Lauren Daigle is set to perform. The Top 6 will sing songs of “inspiration.” That sounds like an Idol gives back theme! Update. Idol theme for this week is unclear.
