American Idol 2019 Recap: The Top 14 Performances (VIDEO)
But this particular Sunday? It was all about the singing. The show got off to a slow start. The best singers were packed into the last half of the show. My favorites were, in no particular order, Laci Kaye Booth, Ashley Hess, Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon, Madison Vandenburg, Uche. I give mad props to Dimitrius Graham, Alejandro Aranda and Walker Burroughs for taking some risks.
Judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan spent way too much time overhyping performances that didn’t always deserve it. Lionel rivals Randy Jackson for the most cliches uttered during the course of single show. COME UP WITH SOME NEW WORDS GUYS. I hope the judges toughen up in the weeks to come. But I won’t put forth any wagers.
Also, quite obviously, the American Idol stylists arrived. Is it just me or did they go a little wild with the contestants this first week? At times, the clothes were more entertaining than the performances.
Which were your favorites? Overall, I enjoyed Sunday’s performances. Having said that, for me, the Top 20 solos were the best night of performances so far. I’ll be an optimist and believe that week was not the season’s pinnacle.
