American Idol auditions will be held this Saturday at noon at Mardi Gras World in New Orleans, Louisiana, according to the ABC affiliate WGNO.

On the Mardis Gras World museum website, the inform fans that the facility will be closed October 10-14 for filming but to be sure to “catch us on an upcoming episode of American Idol.”

Judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie will have a very colorful backdrop in which to evaluate hopefuls. From the Mardis Gras World website:

Our tour allows you to see firsthand what it takes to bring Mardi Gras to life year after year. Walk through the hard work and extensive planning that goes into this grand event when you tour Blaine Kern Studios, an operating workshop that has created breathtaking floats for Mardi Gras and other parades around the world since 1947.

Also, On Camera Audiences is casting for a parade:

American Idol is in New Orleans and you can join the new judges as The French Quarter streets come to life! New Orleans is welcoming the new American Idol judges by throwing a massive parade filled with a live brass band, dancers… and YOU!

This is the very first chance fans will have to see the new judges LIVE!

There are two opportunities to be part of the parade;
French Quarter Float – 1200 Decatur St, 70116
Mardi Gras World Float – 1380 Port of New Orleans Pl, 70130

The piece from WGNO centers around a hopeful who was turned down by Jennifer Lopez when she auditioned for the show as a 16 year old for season 10.

Ashley Monaghan is taking a little trip down memory lane.

“Seven years ago, when I was 15 I auditioned for Idol here at the Riverwalk – Hilton,” she said.

Back then the judges were Steven Tyler, Randy Jackson, and Jennifer Lopez. Steven Tyler loved her. Randy was a fan, but what about J-Lo?

“J-Lo was sitting there looking at me with her hands up near her face. She told me that I was too young and to come back when I was 16 years old,” Monaghan said. “I don’t think I was ready. I didn’t look like someone that could be a pop star at that age. I’ve grown a lot.”

Scorned by Jlo. It was probably for the best, actually. With a few exceptions the teens are better off waiting a few years. Now 22 years old, Ashley will return on Saturday (Oct 14) for her second shot.

As an aside, there will be pop up auditions kiosks placed at Katy Perry’s tour venues. The singer is scheduling auditions in between dates of her “Witness” tour:

Judges round auditions are scheduled to take place in Nashville. I would assume the Nashville auditions coincide. That’s next weekend, so keep an eye out.
