UPDATE: Check this out from On Camera Audiences
American Idol will be taping in Detroit, MI on Feb. 19th and March 4th and 5th! Please join the waitlists for those dates to be notified when the Detroit tickets are released!
Curious. February 19 is the day of the last showcase episode. March 4th and 5th are when the Top 20 are set to perform. What could be going on? It looks like the Top 24 round may be taped ahead of their February 24 and 25th dates? And that the Detroit round will extend to the Top 20? All tapings are set for 2:30 pm. And if you check out the map, the tapings will take place at the Fillmore Theater at 2115 Woodward Ave.

According to The Idol Pad, the theme for the Top 24 semi final round, scheduled for Wednesday February 25 and Thursday February 26 is Motown.
What’s more, American Idol will be hitting the road. The round will take place in the motor city, Detroit MI.
The twist, however is that the round itself will TAKE PLACE IN DETROIT. Much like the Season 12 Top 40 Sudden death round that took place in Las Vegas.
If this is actually true, it appears that American Idol, after promising NEW! FRESH! THEMES! that allowed the contestants to shine in their particular style, are reverting back to the oldy moldy themes of yore.
I mean. MOTOWN? REALLY? OK. I guess I can handle the 4,325th rendition of “Superstition.” Kill Me Now.
If TPTB are bringing back genre themes, it’s probably to force contestants out of their comfort zones. Once fans got their open and contemporary themes, they immediately regretted it, as singers played it safe, relying on songs they already knew, or felt super comfortable singing.
If more details emerge, I’ll update this post.
