The American Idol 14 House of Blues Showcase round, which determined the Top 24, took place in Los Angeles in front of fellow singers, family AND members of the press back in December.
Zap2it has a few details from the time spent watching the round, which consisted of the Top 48 singing with a band at the House of Blues in Los Angeles.
- The first evening consisted of all 48 singers each taking their turn, all in a row, with a break between the first and second batches of 24 singers.
- The judging happened on Day 2
- Zap2it saw three hours of performances. “Of those 20, there were only three breathtaking, ‘This kid is going straight to the live shows’ performances. And yes, all three have emerged as frontrunners throughout the audition rounds…”
- There were two “straight-up bombs” and “several very good ones.” The rest were “perfectly fine, easy to listen to, lovely performances by singers who will likely have to be judged on their entire track records so far this season, because they didn’t stand out enough in either direction.”
- There were a couple of “technical snafus” on the HOB stage. One teenaged singer had to begin her performance TWICE before the technical problems were solved. “Fortunately, it didn’t seem to shake her confidence too much.”
- There was some creative editing at the Hollywood round (press attended group day). Apparently, Hollywood Fainting Girl “did not faint in the order in which it was portrayed on television.”
The American Idol 14 House of Blues Showcase airs tonight (Feb 18) and tomorrow night (Feb 19) on FOX at 8/7c PM.
