American Idol 11 Judges Round Houston: Looking For A Girl Winner

The American Idol 11 judges’ round auditions took place today at the Gavelston Island Convention Center and according to reports the judges are hoping for a female winner this year.

Good luck with that!

Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez, Randy Jackson and Ryan Seacrest sat down to talk to the press this afternoon, and here are a few highlights.

“The strongest voices we’ve seen this year have been girls, ” Jennifer said at a press conference earlier this afternoon. “We had a lot of strong girls last year, but they were voted off one by one before any of the guys.”

Jennifer said that the reason most of the girls get voted off so early is because the majority of American Idol voters are women. Women vote for hotties.

Oh no she di’int!

“Girls are going to vote for cute guys, but I think that, yo, if a girl has the whole package and the uniqueness [that] girls and boys will vote for her, ” Randy Jackson says, “It’s about America just voting for the one that they really feel is the most talented. It would just be nice if it was a girl for a change.”

“We’re excited about this year. I don’t think we put the pressure on ourselves to top last year or anything like that. It’s just about having fun, finding great talent, ” says Jennifer.

There were lots of Adele and Jessie J. covers, according to reports. And no pressure because Idol original flavah, Kelly Clarkson, came from Texas.

“Our first winner was from the proud state of Texas and she wasn’t a country girl, ” says Randy. “When we go to any city, we don’t say, ‘This is going to be a country town’ from each city, we just expect great talent.”

“But there is some pressure on Texas since Kelly Clarkson is from here.”

It’s still hard for Steven Tyler to say no, “It still breaks my heart to tell someone they can’t sing, because everybody’s got a voice, ” he says. “It’s not easy. I have my days and moments.”

According to Randy, this year’s talent in Houston  was “a trillion times better” than Idol’s last visit to the city in 2003.

“I feel like the bar is raised every year. We had an amazing abundance of talent last year, and I think we up it every season, ” says Randy.

“We’re trying to find the absolute best of the best.”
