This week, the American Idol Top 7 sing songs from the 21st century. Can I say…finally? This is the week that will give the Idols the opportunity to reveal what kind of contemporary record they might make.
My picks after the jump. What are yours?
Scotty McCreery – A way for Scotty to step out of his box this week would be to sing a song from one of the female contemporary country artists–Faith Hill, Carrie Underwood, Reba McEntire, etc. But we know that’s just wishful thinking.
Lauren Alaina – The really, really, really obvious choice is Taylor Swift, isn’t it? It might be a good idea considering she’ll probably be marketed as another teen country singer.
James Durbin – How about Green Day, or The Killers
Casey Abrams – John Mayer would be a good contemporary fit for Casey this week.
Haley Reinhart – Haley might want to stick to showing off those jazz chops that impressed the judges so much last week. I suggest a tune by Norah Jones or Amy Winehouse.
Jacob Lusk – As Jacob sanctimoniously informed Idol viewers, he won’t sing sexy, so who to pick? Jacob should pick a contemporary gospel song, as that is the genre he’s likely to be recording, post-Idol.
Stefano Langone – Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars, or Ne-Yo
