My favorite download this week? Haley Reinhart, hands down…no contest. Girl is slowly winning me over! Haley’s cover is the least karaoke sounding of all the performances this week. A distinctive style is beginning to emerge here. and she’s peaking at the right time. Second fav is James Durbin. Really super vocal on a fav song.
- American Idol Top 7 Compilation – $5.99 – iTunes
Links and Reviews after the Jump.
- Scotty McCreary – “Swingin'” – Yikes. Scotty’s deep voice is usually….unnerving on this recording. At least the live performance had some charm. – iTunes
- James Durbin – “Uprising” – Jame’s live performance of the Muse alt/hit was sloppy, but this recording is very listenable. However, I am missing the drum corp – iTunes
- Haley Reinhart – “Rolling in the Deep” – WOW. Haley sounds FANTASTIC. The vocal is rich with some cool little bits of vocal phrasing that keep away those unfavorable comparisons to Adele. Download this one. – iTunes
- Jacob Lusk – “Dance With My Father” – Mawkish and boring, Jacob is no Luther. Yuck – iTunes
- Casey Abrams – “Harder to Breathe” – Casey brings nothing new to this Maroon 5 cover, except the over-growling that’s gotten him in trouble on Idol. Go back to jazz Casey!- iTunes
- Stefano Langone – “Closer” – Stefano is no Ne-Yo, but this cover is solid, soulful and a good indication of the type of music he should record when he leaves Idol. – iTunes
- Lauren Alaina – “Born to Fly” – Generic country pop. But in terms of selling records after Idol, that could be a good thing – iTunes
