This week’s American Idol celebrates the music of the iconic singer/songwriter, Carole King. It should be interesting for the kids, considering King’s biggest hits were all released 40+ years ago. Choosing songs may have proved quite the daunting task for some.
The kids took on contemporary tunes quite successfully for the most part last week. Although King has some great songs in her catalog, I’m not looking forward to the kids time traveling once again.
After the jump, check out my picks for each of the Idols. What do you think the Idols should sing?
Scotty McCreery – “Smackwater Jack” – The imagery is a little violent, but it’s got a nice country vibe.
James Durbin – “Pleasant Valley Sunday” – One of my favorite Monkees’ songs has a psychedelic edge and gives James an opportunity to show off his upper register. “Creature comfort goals..they only numb my soul.” Preach it!
Lauren Alaina – “You’ve Got a Friend” – Lauren should sing it slowed up, with a country twang.
Casey Abrams – “Up On the Roof” – I hope Casey goes back to his jazz/blues side this week. He could do it with this song.
Haley Reinhart – “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow” – I thought about this for Lauren for about a second…til I remembered the lyrics. The song could be a nice vocal showcase for Haley.
Jacob Lusk – “Way Over Yonder” – A perfect opportunity for Jacob to be soulful, without going over-the-top. The spiritual theme is a perfect fit.
