American Idol 10 – The Final! What Should the Idols Sing?

Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina will sing 3 songs on tonight’s American Idol final

We know the names of the singles Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina will sing tonight and release on Thursday, Scotty’s song is called “Love You This Big” and Lauren will sing a Kristy Lee Cook cover, “Like My Mother Does”.

We also know that Carrie Underwood picked a song for Lauren Alaina (A song Carrie had wanted to sing during her run on Idol) and George Strait for Scotty.

The third song will be picked by Scotty and Lauren from the songs they have already performed in Idol competition.

While I couldn’t possibly even begin to second guess Carrie Underwood and George Strait (don’t let that stop you, however!) I do have some thoughts on which songs the Top 2 should consider reprising.

For Lauren,   I pick her Top 11 Redux performance of  Elton John’s “Candle in the Wind” (her best performance of the season, I think) or for something uptempo, her Top 12 Girls performance of Reba McEntire’s “On the Radio. (Lauren’s song list)

Scotty could go with either his Top 13 performance of Garth Brooks’ “The River” or, if he wanted to pull at the patriotic heartstrings again, his Top 4 performance of Alan Jackson’s “Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning”.  For something uptempo, I would go with his Top 3 performance of Thomson Square’s “Are You Going to Kiss Me Or Not”. (Scotty’s song list)

What songs do you think Scotty and Lauren should sing?
