The Amazing Race 29 Recap – Episode 6 Live Blog

A new episode of The Amazing Race airs tonight on CBS. Read a live recap and join the discussion here.

The episode begins with the teams learning their next destination: Milan, Italy. They use a Travelocity app to book their flights. Tara speaks Italian, so she’s very excited to travel to Italy. Michael and Liz were spared from elimination, but they are still frustrated with each other. Michael tells Liz he’s annoyed that every decision has to be hers, but Liz is done fighting and wants to resolve their issues. They eventually do make up and book their flights.

On the way to the train station, Brooke and Scott discuss how they’re frustrated placing toward the bottom at every leg; they are determined to do better. They also discuss how other teams are annoyed by Vanck and Ashton, and plan to get the others to target them for the U-Turn. As they arrive at the train station, all the teams agree to target Vanck and Ashton due to finding them annoying. They also want to block the other U-Turn option so Vanck and Ashton can’t U-Turn another team.

The teams arrive in Milan and make their way to Piazza Fontana. Once there, they learn they have a Roadblock to complete. One team member must ride a mobile restaurant and spot three different words on signs and finish a meal. There will be a red and yellow Amazing Race marker under each word to let them know which words to look for. Tara and Michael are the first two to start the Roadblock, and they get on a tram together. They agree to help each other too. Vanck, Scott, Redmond, and Flloyd get in another tram together and begin the Roadblock. Logan tried to get on the second tram, but it was already full. He and London are now currently in last place, and he must wait for another tram.

The people attempting the Roadblock are trying to find the words “Concordia,” “Lago,” and “Cernobbio.” Tara and Michael are the first two to complete the Roadblock. They get off the mobile restaurant, and they successfully recite the right three words to a man in uniform. He hands them their next clue. They can proceed to Cernobbio and board a boat called the Concordia. Logan gets on their tram and begins his attempt at the Roadblock. Meanwhile, everyone on the other tram failed the Roadblock on their first attempt. None of them got “Lago.” While they wait for another tram, Logan gets off his tram to recite his three words. He wrote down four words, but chose the wrong word even though he had all the correct words. He gave an incorrect word instead of “Cernobbio,” even though he had it written down too. He must redo the Roadblock as well.

Vanck, Floyd, Scott, Redmond, and Logan all eventually pass the Roadblock on their second attempt and make their way to the Concordia. They get their assigned departure times for tomorrow morning, with Tara and Joey in first with a 7:00 am departure time, and London and Logan in last with a 7:30 am departure time.

The next morning, the boat arrives in the village of Varenna. Tara and Joey are the first to depart the boat, and they find their next clue. They choose to not U-Turn a team. Afterwards, they learn they have a Detour to complete: Make a Mold (wrap a teammate in plaster to make a mold) or Grab a Hold (climb up a rock face 90 feet off the ground). Liz and Michael are the second to find the clue, and Liz and Michael choose to U-Turn Vanck and Ashton. They pass Becca and Floyd, and they tell them to U-Turn them so Vanck and Ashton can’t save themselves. Becca and Floyd oblige, and both these teams choose to Grab a Hold. Becca regularly rock climbs, so she’s certain this is a perfect task for her to do. Matt and Redmond are the next team to find the clue box, and they are happy to not have been U-Turned. They also choose to Grab a Hold.

Vanck and Ashton are lost on their way to the clue box, not knowing they have already been U-Turned. Tara and Joey begin the Make a Mold task with Joey working with the plaster to wrap around Tara. Meanwhile, a local gave Becca and Floyd wrong directions, allowing Matt and Redmond to pass them. Liz and Michael finally find the boats to get to the Grab a Hold Detour.

Scott and Brooke arrive at the clue box and they are happy to not have been U-Turned. They’re also glad their plan of targeting Vanck and Ashton went exactly how they wanted. Meanwhile, London and Logan finally depart and they also get to the clue box before Vanck and Ashton do. They choose to do the Make a Mold Detour as Scott and Brooke and Liz and Michael work together to find the Grab a Hold Detour.

Matt and Redmond and Becca and Floyd are the first two teams to attempt the Grab a Hold Detour. Meanwhile, Vanck and Ashton finally arrive at the U-Turn board. They’re disappointed, but say they are just going to power through.

Matt and Redmond are the first teams to complete the Grab a Hold Detour; they are now in first, but Becca and Floyd completed the Detour too. They learn they must ride an Italian regal watercraft to Tremezzo, where the Pit Stop is located. These two teams depart as Scott and Brooke and Liz and Michael arrive at the Grab a Hold Detour. Brooke is nervous as she climbs up the wall since she can’t find her footing.

London and Logan join Tara and Joey at the Make a Mold Detour. As they get to work with the plasters, it is a close race for first place. Matt and Redmond are ahead, but Becca and Floyd  manage to get off their boat first. They sprint to the Pit Stop with Matt and Redmond racing right behind them. Becca and Floyd get there first, and Phil tells them they are Team #1. They have also won a trip to Argentina. Matt and Redmond, already at the mat with Becca and Floyd, are in second place.

Tara and Joey finally complete the Detour, leaving London and Logan as the only team at the Make a Mold Detour. Meanwhile, at the other Detour, Brooke is still freaking out as she climbs up the wall, afraid she’s going to fall as she struggles to find her footing. She repeatedly cries out to Scott (who is holding the rope) to not let her fall, but Scott calmly tells her she isn’t going to fall. Liz manages to grab the clue and complete the Detour before Brooke does. However, Brooke manages to grab the clue too, and she and Scott can now make their way to the Pit Stop.

London is still wrapping the plaster around Logan as Vanck and Ashton begin the Grab a Hold Detour. Ashton climbs up the rocks and grabs the clue. However, she and Vanck must now go to the Make a Mold Detour before making their way to the Pit Stop. They pass Liz and Michael on the way there, and they sarcastically thank them for the U-turn. Michael tells them, “Anytime!” Meanwhile, Tara and Joey have arrived at the Pit Stop as Team #3, and they are followed by Liz and Michael and Brooke and Scott.

Before Vanck and Ashton arrive at the Make a Mold Detour, London and Logan have already completed the task and can make their way to the Pit Stop. They arrive there as Team #6.

All the teams have already arrived at the Pit Stop as Vanck and Ashton are working on the Make a Mold Detour. They know they’re in last place, but they’re proud to have done so well since they’re so different from each other. They eventually complete the Make a Mold Detour too and greet Phil at the Pit Stop. He gives them the bad news: Vanck and Ashton have been eliminated from the race. They are both disappointed, but they’re proud to have made it this far. They once again mention how despite being so different from one another, they managed to work well together as a team.
