Allison Iraheta – Z100 Jingle Ball Interviews

Allison Iraheta was a special guest at the Z100 Jingle Ball last night (Dec. 11) at Madison Square Garden in New York City. She introduced a very special performer to the stage–Kris Allen!

After the jump, check out a few backstage interviews. Allison talks about her music, shopping at Hot Topic, Paula Abdul and the big reunion with Kris Allen and Adam Lambert.

Watch this space–I’ll be posting more interviews as they appear.

  1. Love her! I like the album a lot more than I was worried I would. I hope she can start getting some real promotion. Maybe in the year?

  2. Allison was adorable and funny. She’s come along with her interviewing. But stop with the Paula questions!!! Please, by all that is holy and unholy, stop!

  3. After the Jingle Ball Friday night, Allison will be making a quick trip to Athens, Georgia for the Rock n’ Racquets at the University of Georgia, tomorrow, 12/12 at 4:00 PM, EST.

    Per the Event Info:

Live Musical Performance- Allison Iraheta showcases her unmistakable vocals performing several songs from her debut album

    http://www.rocknracquets.com/eventinfo.htm

  4. I am very proud of her cd. Allison is also very funny and a fun person besides being a great singer.

  5. I love Allison’s signature extended arm thumbs up. Evidence of no personality, right?

It’s interesting how many DJs haven’t listened to her album yet – guess it’s going to take a little time. Hard to believe anyone hearing it wouldn’t get excited about it.

  6. Thanks for posting MJ. love this girl with a passion. I really hope that her album kinda grows like “the fame” starts of with low sales but once more people start to hear it her sales will sky rocket.

she’s still the dark horse of S8 and I think she could still take it all in sales if 19 treats her like a bew artist

  7. “I dont need u anymore fool” LOL shes awesome…the aol sessions she did are AMAZING yall shouls check those out if u can..they were all on yt but now theyve been slowly disappearing…idk why but anyways, like Adam she sounds amazing live..even better than on the album I think…I really hope the radio stations give her a chance shes really talented and unique…I really hope this teen-bop sensation thing goes away, but I dont think it will happen…back in the 90’s it was all about the boy bands…but at least those boys could actually sing! Cant say that about a lot of these teen acts…its annoying as hell..sorry I just has to vent…good night :)

‘I dont need u anymore fool’ LOL shes awesome’ ¦the aol sessions she did are AMAZING yall shouls check those out if u can..they were all on yt but now theyve been slowly disappearing’ ¦idk why but anyways,

That’s because they were never released on AOL – they leaked out. Hopefully one of these days soon AOL will release them on their site.

  9. THIS GIRL!!!, ….I’m so proud of her, and I can’t help but listen to DWTP,
Holliday, Scars, Pieces, YDKM and the rest are growing on me. This is a wonderful Album. She interprets these lyrics with a good deal of rockin
    soul!
I saw her performance on Ellen the other day and she blew me away again and that was’nt even my favorite song. Now I saw Selena gomez on Ellen
Nice cutesie girl but singer ….not so muking such!!!!THIS GIRl,Allie….She will I Believe, explode upon the music biz in spite of 19!! Already, she is sounding a lot more comfortable with her interview speak…..Yay ALLISON!!!!!

  10. Yes
her interviewing skills have more than multiply, AND, her fashion is very tasteful and hot.
    Can’t wait for a tour.

  11. …back in the 90’s it was all about the boy bands’ ¦but at least those boys could actually sing!

haha, a little bias towards your days much?

I agree though about the teen acts – a change would be a welcome change.
Debbie Gibson wrote and can sing too, back in the days..

  12. Now that’s an improvement on the interview department. I’m always annoyed by her OTT corkiness; so corny. If not for her huge talent & boldness in fashion style (yeah, i like artistic & creative ppl), I’ll be skipping all news about her from this blog.

  13. i really hope 19/jive doesn’t decide to throw allison under the bus after her 1st week sales. like many people have said, she put out a great album! all she needs is some promotion – an appearance on next year’s idol season would help. and wouldn’t it be great if they played “Holiday” during the Hollywood week montage?

  14. Allison is fun and gives fun and, yes, quirky interviews to people who are fun and quirky. She also does serious interviews too.

Is there a video of her introducing Kris?

  15. I doubt that Jive is going to throw her under the bus. Given this DJ’s statement that he has had her demo but didn’t listen to it yet, it’s not the fault of Jive. The reviews of her music have been mostly positive and it is very well received. Don’t Waste The Pretty and Scars are stellar.

  16. I love Allison’s cd I think it’s so awesome. I really love almost all the songs on it. My favorites are Don’t waste the Pretty, Scars and D is for Dangerous. And I just love the interview. I think Allison can sing her butty off. I love when she sings don’t waste the pretty live. I think Jive well do right by her.

  17. My husband was humming Allison’s song “Just Like You” in the ShopRite last night after I played the album in the car – LOL! She seems to be a hit with the 60 and over crowd as well as the teen set (my daughter loves her too). I’ve been a fan since the first time she opened her mouth to sing on Idol and I couldn’t be happier for her!

  18. Allison has always been fun, but now she is also very poised. The talent is great. Yea for Allison, her singing ‘Alone’ is still one of my all time faves.

  19. That’s because they were never released on AOL ‘“ they leaked out. Hopefully one of these days soon AOL will release them on their site.

They were posted on the AOL site by accident, and then quickly taken down. Right now, AOL is waiting for paperwork from Aliison’s peeps. As soon as that’s sorted out…the sessions will be posted.

  20. Is there a video of her introducing Kris?

Check out the “Can’t Stay Away” video in Kris’s video thread.

Maybe because Kris has yet to do his AOL Sessions?

  22. Is Kris doing AOL sessions at all?
Regardless, I don’t see any reason anymore for Allison to wait for Kris to do anything. AIS8, the tour, and the album releases are over. Individually, they will continue to be associated with the show, and they will bump into each other in events such as the Z100 JB, but each is doing his/her own thing.

    ETA: Allison looks great!

  23. It seems that the next single will be Scars. Allison’s Wikipedia entry shows Friday and Scars as her singles. I don’t know who updates this, or how credible is. The last update was today at around 3 pm.

    Allison Singles

ETA: According to iTunes, Scars is the most popular song of the album, so I guess it makes sense.

  24. Wikipedia is user updated, I wouldn’t trust it. Even if Scars is the most popular track on iTunes, I still think the next single is probably Don’t waste the pretty.

  25. As I said, not sure if it is credible.
I would guess that Wikipedia would not be the first place Allison’s camp would update once the decision is made.
But, its there, and we haven’t had much to talk about over the weekend.

  26. Yes, I’m sure someone put that on Wiki just because Scars sold enough copies (around 6000) to be reported by Soundscan (and subsequently by Brian Mansfield in his weekly list of Idol sales). I would give that Wiki entry a credibility score of zero.

Speaking of things to talk about, the radio station in Portland OR that added her this week continues to play her a lot, about 8 times a day, and not during the overnight hours when no one’s listening. It’s doing good things for her numbers.

  27. First interview was really good… she didn’t seem intimidated at all.

Second interview… all about “something I always wanted to do” (3.5 x in just 54 seconds, that’s gotta be a record!). She’s just taunting me, I think… :)

How can she see with her hair like that in the top picture? That’s gotta impact her depth perception. Girl’s gonna start running into things.

  28. alli lurker
Second interview’ ¦ all about ‘something I always wanted to do’ (3.5 x in just 54 seconds, that’s gotta be a record!).

Well, to be fair, there was some editing going on. So, she probably said a few more times :-).

  29. LoveDaRocker – You’re right, we probably need an ‘official count’ before we put it in the record books…

  30. But it’s true, it’s something she always wanted to do. For us it sounds like she’s repeating herself because we obsess over her and have seen all her interviews but for someone who hasn’t seen her at all, this is all new.

  31. Just havin’ some fun, PRMari. Hopefully Allison would be amused, too.

(Of course, we know she doesn’t read any of this, right?)

  32. Also, all interviewers ask pretty much the same questions (except, of course, the Parker/Cantiello/Slezak trifecta), so we’ll hear pretty much the same answers.
And yes, PRMari, we are just having some fun. We know better than picking up a fight with you :-).

  33. I know you don’t mean any harm to the rocker, never would I think such thing from you guys. I guess I just wish people would ask her different questions already.

  34. I know. I am not expecting everyone to be Barbara Waters, but at least don’t bring up other Idols (unless it is to point out how much better she is), or the Paula/Ellen question, or how many packs of smokes she has a day.
I sent some questions to the Cantiello interview and was hoping for “LoveDaRocker wants to know …”. Speaking of which, why did someone called “Becky” got two questions through? Must work at MTV, specially because one of the questions was pretty much one I posted before anyone else in the comments.
Anyhoo, back to the grind …

  35. From Alliholics:
Interesting stuff! Yahoo’s @LyndseyParker talks about @AllisonIraheta in PART 2 of @AINow’s interview. Check it out.

  36. @LyndseyParker talks about @AllisonIraheta

Lyndsey says she doesn’t know why Allison’s album hasn’t sold well…

My opinion: Allison needs a hit single. I don’t know if Friday’s gonna do it for her, but I think she has others that could.

  37. I think Friday needs a complement. I wouldn’t be surprised if the release of a second single helps Friday. If I am not mistaken, that happened a bit with FYE when WWFM was released (I know, its just an example).
In other words, Friday should not be dished, but helped.

Regarding the record, Allison depends on word of mouth and radio play. As we have discussed before, the Idol crowd likes Allison, but not as much as Kris or Adam. She needs to be known outside to find people who didn’t follow Idol who (like us) appreciate her talents.

  38. Here we go, underground again…

I agree w/ Lyndsey re: TV appearances, but I don’t think Friday comes across very well live. So it makes me wonder if the appearances she’s already done have been wasted.

I also remember when the song leaked. It seemed like maybe 30%-50% of the comments here were negative, and these are Idol fans who were anxious to hear the song. That was disappointing.

I think they should move on to a new single (you know which one I want!). You may be right, though – a new song could stir interest in Friday.

ETA: No TV appearance will be bigger than Idol next season – and yes, of course she’ll be on – Idol gets more viewers than probably anything else she could be on (except the Superbowl (someday!)) and everyone remembers her. If they do that appearance right, it could be big for her.

ETA: I hope she’s on Idol twice – once to do her new single (YDKM!!), and once during Top 2 to do the exit song they’ll use next season along w/ the memories montage!

  39. I was just on Yahoo – the front page – and they had a link to her DWTP acoustic performance there (which we know is amazing). I clicked on it and saw that there are 300+ comments, many from the last couple of days.

Its likely that this will be the next single. I hope she sings it on Kimmel.

Still hoping for YDKM on Idol, though.

  40. YDKM/DWTP/SCARS/TI could be the next single. I’ll be happy with any of those. Happier with TI though.
Do you think YDKM could be AI’s exit song? Is kind of a bitchy way to say goodbye, if you ask me.
Nothing from he whose name … stands out as a possible exit song. I haven’t listen enough to Kris’. Gokey’s Best Days? Oh oh …

ETA: I just listened to Gokey’s song and it has exit song written all over it. He is a 19 artist too. Damn

  41. They’ll have Adam record something or Kris, they’re not going to give Allison the exit song, no way. Also, Gokey is not managed by 19, only Kradison are.

  42. I was thinking maybe Still Breathing. I’ll have to check out Danny’s Song… they did country last year (Carrie), though.

I just want to see and hear YDKM on Idol at some point.

I hope they pick TI over Scars as a ballad.

  43. They’ll have Adam record something or Kris, they’re not going to give Allison the exit song, no way.

Daughtry had a huge exit song! They could give it to her.

  44. PRMari
Also, Gokey is not managed by 19, only Kradison are.

Well, Danny’s website has a 19 logo at the bottom, along with RCA/Nashville. If not managing, then 19 licensed someone to do so, but there is definitely a link.

they’re not going to give Allison the exit song, no way.

If she had a perfect exit song in her album, I wouldn’t be so sure. As alli lurker said, Daughtry’s “Home” was an exit song. But it was perfect for it.

  45. They’ll have Adam record something or Kris

You might be referring to the fact that they had Carrie sing “Home Sweet Home”. Lots of dynamics at play here. Carrie was already a superstar and I don’t think she was pushing a single or album at the time. So that gig was perfect for her. Don’t know if having Adam or Kris singing someone else’s exit song would work.

  46. If she had a perfect exit song in her album, I wouldn’t be so sure. As alli lurker said, Daughtry’s ‘Home’ was an exit song. But it was perfect for it.

They loved Daughtry, they never loved Allison. They signed Allison probably because Jive wanted her so badly and they wanted in on the action. Keep dreaming about them giving Allison the exit song, it’s not going to happen. I wouldn’t even be surprised if they don’t even ask her back to the show. She was never their pet project like Adam and Gokey were.

Also, yes, Danny was signed by 19 but he’s not managed by them. He was licensed to someone else.

  47. Exit song, I am 99% sure Alli wont get it. Alli lurker is still hoping.
Idol appearance, I think there is a good chance the show will bring her back: she is signed to 19/Jive and she would probably have a single to promote. I will put it at 60%.
Danny and 19, there is a link between them, and it can only help Danny’s chances of getting that exit song. Is in 19 best interest for Danny to be successful.
Daughtry, the show did love him. And, he was bottom 3 only once before getting the boot, whereas Allison was bottom 3 three times before Rock week. So the audience also loved him.

  48. I generally agree with LoveDaRocker and PRMari.

About Allison getting to perform on the show this season — the 19 empire has a financial interest in her being successful, so they have an incentive to have her on. On the other hand, they never cared one bit about her, and if they don’t think she’s a signficant draw for viewers (i.e. ratings) then I can definitely see them leaving her off the schedule. I think if she has a single that’s doing well during the season, they’ll have her on; and if she doesn’t, it’s a crapshoot.

As for the exit song, nope.

But I admire alli lurker’s hopefulness and optimism. Keep hope alive! :-)

  49. As for performing on the show, last season they had Brooke White, Carly, and Michael Johns during semis (or did I mess up my seasons?). I am pretty sure those three have performed in the semifinal’s stage recently. Bringing Alli during semis would not surprise me at all, and in fact, I think it’s the most likely scenario. Bringing her to the big stage seems less likely though.
The thing with the small stage is the band. The band is really cool and adds to her performances (especially Valerie :-)), but I have never seen a musical guest with band in the small stage.
    We’ll see.

  50. I’m prepared for them to only invite her to semifinals but would love to see her in a regular results night show. Maybe by then, she’ll be doing well enough that they’ll give her the big stage. If not, you know she will blow everybody away with an acoustic performance of pretty much ANYTHING, who knows, it might be even more powerful. We’ll see.

  51. Yeah, that’s what I was going to say — she could do well with either the full-band setting or the acoustic setting, and I think the AI audience in particular would eat up the latter. Unfortunate that she wouldn’t be able to show both sides.

In terms of exposure, presumably the later in the season the better, as I imagine the audience gets bigger…?

  52. To band or no to band, I would prefer the full band becuase it is a more “rockin” impression, and some people still believe she can’t rock.
Who am I kidding, I just want to see Valerie :-).

  53. You thought we’d forget?? What kind of fans do you think we are? :-D

  54. I hope she doesn’t play Friday, just so people see something different. Do we know what she’ll play?
Just to get alli lurker out of the woods:

Allison, if you are listening, blow the lid out of that joint with Holiday!

I know, I know, but for these kind of shows you have to make a statement. I wanna see a Conan-like Barracuda blow-out. Friday is not going to do that. The power balads will be well received, and I’ll be happy with any of the four horsemen (Scars/TI/DWTP Acoustic/JLY Acoustic), but I want her to rock their faces off. No better tune than Holiday to do that.
But that’s just me. I am not in the music biz, and I suspect the best thing would be to play whatever single she is currently pushing or will soon push. But I am a selfish person that way :-).

  55. What the hell is going on down here??!! I leave for a few hours and the whole place goes to sh*t!

I am 200% sure Allison will be on Idol next season. Are you people nuts? Read her liner notes… she thanked Simon Fuller “for valuing my work and making this all possible, and for making my dreams come true.” He loves her – do you think he really wouldn’t have her on? AND she talked about it when they interviewed her for that recent video on the Idol site. AND like JohnM said, the whole money thing – they have a vested interest in her success.

Re: Kimmel – Haha LoveDaRocker! I got a good laugh from your Holiday comment. I think anything would be better than Friday at this point – I hope they’ve figured that out by now. Of the songs that we’ve seen her perform I would choose Trouble Is, DWTP acoustic, or DWTP full band. If I could choose anything off the album I would pick one of my top three – You Don’t Know Me, D is For Dangerous, or Beat Me Up.

We need a new thread… I’ve been thinking deep thoughts about Allison today and want to expound upon them above ground.

  56. I’m starting to have concerns about DWTP as the next single. I’m finding that the recorded version seems to drag on and sometimes I’ll skip it. I don’t have that problem with my Top 3 or Trouble Is.

    Anybody else concerned about it?

  57. I know!!!!
I have not said it out-loud to not sound as a downer, but the DWTP recording is really not as good as either its acoustic version, or the recordings of TI, Scars, JLY, or YDKM. Acoustic? It kicks some serious behind, and will blow people away. But will that translate to radio play? My guess is no.
On the other hand, I think the same thing happens with Kelly’s “Already Gone” track. The recording (sampling Beyonce’s Halo :-)) is nothing to write home about. But her live performances, in which she dished the recording’s music for an acoustic arrangement, are amazing, and I think are responsible for getting the song to HAC #1 spot. So, you never know.
For Kimmel, I am really hoping for TI. Holiday will not be bad. BMU??? Seriously??? You trying to get me back, don’t ya? No way she will do that. That said, BMU is now my 10th favorite of the album.

ETA: “I’ve been thinking deep thoughts about Allison today” Oookay. Spill the beans. Re-post if necessary.

  58. LoveDaRocker – When you say dished, I think you mean ditched (get rid of). I know we don’t normally correct each other here, but I thought it might help you. Sorry if I offend.

Re: Deep thoughts… Allison did a radio interview today. It was kind of cute. I’m going to ask MJ to start a new post. She’s done it for me before, but I don’t know if this is big enough.

BMU, yes seriously! Its all part of my deep thoughts….

  59. I think BMU should be reserved for when she turns 18. It’ll be a controversial song to maybe catch people’s attention when she’s already somewhat established.

  60. alli lurker, Yes, I meant ditched. Glad you got the gist of it.
Hopefully your deep thoughts are not about “dirtying up” Alli for exposure’s sake. Because that’s what’s going to happen if BMU is released and pushed. She can go on Oprah and say that its about psychological abuse, and it will not help much. I really don’t thing the AMA FYE debacle will work for Adam in the long term, and releasing BMU will not work for Alli either.
Besides, would you consider BMU (regardless of the lyrics) a poppy song or a rock song? I think is very poppy, and I don’t think that’s the direction she should go with future singles (especially since Friday is out there already). Either rock it out, or push rockin power balads.
And, if wanting to go more pop, D is better anyway.
Ok, I got to unplug for a while.
And, I have a crush on Valerie.

  61. Hopefully your deep thoughts are not about ‘dirtying up’ Alli for exposure’s sake.

Absolutely not!! That’s my worst fear.

Still nothing from MJ – its probably dinnertime there.

I have to go away for a while, too. I’ll check back in a couple of hours.

  62. I think Allison is the perfect amount of “dirty” right now. No need to dirty her up more.

  63. alli lurker: We need a new thread’ ¦ I’ve been thinking deep thoughts about Allison today and want to expound upon them above ground.

I’m telling you guys, you need to register at Allison’s official site and start posting in the thread called Allison’s Music Thread. We had some really good conversations there over the summer, and I’d like to get it active again — and this is just what I started that thread for.

As for her being back on Idol, you and LoveDaRocker have convinced me to be more sure that she will be. For one thing, I’d forgotten that Brooke, Carly, and Michael were on last season, and none of them were managed by 19, and the latter two didn’t have albums out at the time (Brooke did her single, as I recall).

About the Kimmel appearance, I certainly agree with LoveDaRocker that she needs to “rock their faces off”. On Kimmel, artists do the single and then, almost always, the first part of a second song during the credits — hopefully that second one will be Holiday. And yes, the first song will be the single, period.

And it still makes sense to assume that “the single” is Friday. I see that it didn’t get any adds today, and this is the first week that it hasn’t gotten at least one, so I imagine there’s some possibility that the writing is on the wall. But in my book, Friday is the single until either she plays something different on a TV appearance or we hear something from Jive.

That’s really funny what you guys said about the album version of DWTP being too long and not as good as other album tracks (especially JLY — huh??), because I think it’s too short! I always find myself wishing for just one more round of that beautiful choral stuff at the end with her wailing over the top of it. I’ve been hesitantly coming around to calling DWTP my favorite track on the album (though it’s really a co-favorite with TI and just a micro-hair ahead of YDKM and D, with Pieces coming up from behind).

At the same time, though, I actually do have some concern about it as a single, in that it’s not a blow-you-away song like Holiday or TI, and I think she needs one. I happen to love the updated-70s-rock feel and the gorgeous harmonies, but I think it is a “safe” mid-tempo song.

… which is why it will be the next single — “safe” wins every time. :-)

LoveDaRocker: I think the same thing happens with Kelly’s ‘Already Gone’ track. The recording (sampling Beyonce’s Halo) is nothing to write home about. But her live performances, in which she dished the recording’s music for an acoustic arrangement, are amazing, and I think are responsible for getting the song to HAC #1 spot.

You are so right about the difference between the album and live versions of Already Gone. The album track is just another ballad, but it’s a different song and a stellar performance live, according to the videos that have been posted here that I’ve watched.

However, there’s no way on Earth that her live performances are responsible for getting it to #1 on HAC. Only a tiny number of people have heard those. People just love them ballads.

  64. LoveDaRocker

First of all, hi to everyone.

Our son is in town so I am pretending to be a “normal person” and not spending 22 hours a day on the computer talking about Allison. This will go on for me until after New Years.

I tend to agree about DWTP. I love it, but acoustic more than on the album. In particular, the way it just stops abruptly on the album bothers me. On the other hand, I love the way Allison resolves the song at the end of her unplugged performances.

I like the guitar at the end of the AOL session, and, in fact would love to see the solo extended into a little jam by the band in a live performance. This could also give Allison’s voice a rest during a set.

Did any of you read the latest review in Headlines? I get so tired of these types of comments. Does the reviewer really think that Pink and Kelly Clarkson invented their own sounds? Everybody sounds like somebody else, to some extent.

How would these reviewers have reviewed some of the great blues singers and bands back in their heyday? I could imagine the comments – most of the songs are covers – sound the same – diction problems, etc. Music doesn’t have to be totally unique to be good – it’s the quality of the sound and interpretation by the performer that counts.

Anyway, just venting again and preaching to the choir.

BTW – I’m frustrated that nobody was able to record any of the Georgia tennis gig. Not even info on a set list? To quote someone: “Damn!”

  65. I haven’t posted in a long time (OK, a day or 2), but it always seems like JohnM and I are always posting at the same time, and often saying pretty much the same thing. Example: comments on DWTP.

    Spooky.

  66. After going through pages of non-Allison comments in Headlines, I did read that someone heard FIBOU played over the sound system at Best Buy.

    Keep the faith.

Well then, how about twins separated at’ ¦ 15-year intervals??

    Better!

BTW – anyone wondering about MJ – she’s busy watching and reporting on So You Think You Can Dance right now.

  69. JohnM
However, there’s no way on Earth that her live performances are responsible for getting it to #1 on HAC. Only a tiny number of people have heard those. People just love them ballads.

That might be. Plus she has a sizeable following. But just prior to hitting #1, she performed it at the Divas concert, The View, Kimmel, and the AMA’s (it may have been #1 by then, not sure). That’s pretty good exposure.

  70. jordison – Did any of you read the latest review in Headlines?

Why yes, I did, and that is what made me start thinking deep thoughts about Allison as I was driving around today. The reviewer said this…

‘D is for Dangerous’ and ‘Beat Me Up’ try the hardest to reintroduce the sass we grew to love from Iraheta on Idol, but fine moments like these are all too fleeting. Maybe on her next album she’ll stop trying to be just like Clarkson and Pink, and more like Allison Iraheta.

So I was thinking – Who is Allison Iraheta? I think she’s these things:
    Cool
    Fun
    Energetic
    Animated

Then I was thinking – What do I really like on her album?
    You Don’t Know Me
    D is For Dangerous
    Beat Me Up
    No One Else

What do these songs all have in common? They make me want to dance.

What does Allison like to see when she’s singing? People on their feet, enjoying the show.

How did those great concerts in SF in the 60’s start? They were dances.

Why did people go to Grateful Dead shows for years and years? They wanted to dance.

So after thinking about all this… I’ve decided that I don’t want Allison to rock my face off, I want her to make me dance my ass off. That should be her place, her niche. And I’m not talking about anything like disco – more like 80’s rock/pop – like everyone was talking about with her MV. And there were lots of cool bands that made you want to dance during that time. Here’s some examples:

    The Cure: Just Like Heaven

The Fix: One Thing Leads to Another

    Talk Talk: Its My Life

Modern English: I Melt With You

The Go-Go’s: Our Lips Are Sealed (Love this video!!)

I was at a party on Saturday where everyone danced to music like this all night long. It was the most fun I’ve had in years. Wouldn’t it be great if Allison’s concerts were like this? A big, fun, dance party? I would love it. I think a lot of people would.

  71. LoveDaRocker: But just prior to hitting #1, [Kelly] performed [Already Gone] at the Divas concert, The View, Kimmel, and the AMA’s (it may have been #1 by then, not sure). That’s pretty good exposure.

Yeah, that’s true; and My Wife The David Cook Fan noted that Cook’s song Lie (and his album) shot up on iTunes after he performed it on Carrie’s Christmas special. So yeah, I guess there are some artists who get good bumps out of TV performances. Silly me, I was thinking too much about concert performances and not enough about the TV performances — some of which I myself saw!

On the other hand, would those kinds of performances have much effect on radio play? I don’t know.

Okay, I’m going to stop arguing with myself now…

  72. JohnM – That’s really funny what you guys said about the album version of DWTP being too long and not as good as other album tracks (especially JLY ‘” huh??)

I don’t think I said that about JLY. I think the album version of JLY is pretty bad, especially that synthesizer – yuck! It also lacks the emotion of her acoustic version (which I love).

  73. JohnM – I’m telling you guys, you need to register at Allison’s official site and start posting in the thread called Allison’s Music Thread.

I don’t like the ‘register’ part and the fact that others have to register to read it.

  74. No, you don’t have to register to read it — only to post. Works just like mj’s. And I don’t get any spam etc. as a result of having an account there, if that’s what you’re worried about.

  75. JohnM
Yeah, I know you didn’t ‘” LoveDaRocker did.

    You betcha!
I find them comparable, at best. But that’s just me. I can see others disagreeing.
    Ok, off to work.

  76. On alli lurker‘s deep thoughts:
    Missing the 80’s a bit?
I wish I was at that party. Would have wore a pastel-colored blazer. I had one back then. LOL.
And thanks for the links. That’s a great representation of 80’s pop-rock.
I agree to a point. If the vibe of the music you posted can be updated with some new sounds, it may work for her. That said, it could be argued that Friday tried that.
I just like her and, unless she is britneysized, I will follow whatever she does. Just leave in each record 2-3 rock power balads, a la TI, and 2-3 rocking tracks (a bit softer than Holiday would be fine), and I’ll be happy. D is as poppy as I would like her to go. I really like that song, especially when she gets funky in the bridge. Its in my top 4 right now.

  77. LoveDaRocker
If the vibe of the music you posted can be updated with some new sounds, it may work for her.

Exactly. I’m just saying that its never a bad idea to get people moving, especially if they think its ‘cool’ music. It could earn her a loyal ‘live’ following.

I mentioned Pearl Jam’s Better Man before:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JLztfosqik
That’s a good example of a cool song that gets people moving (it ‘kicks in’ around the 2 minute mark.)

And I’m not talking about covering these songs (okay maybe one).

    Here’s another 80’s gem…
The English Beat: Save It For Later
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bM0wVjU2-k

ETA: Friday has some head banging qualities, but its not really ‘cool’.

  78. I’d also say that the marketing for Friday and Allison in general has been uncool to this point.

    The tween thing’s “gotta go”.

ETA: I hope they haven’t ruined her career.

  79. LoveDaRocker – I wish I was at that party. Would have wore a pastel-colored blazer. I had one back then. LOL.

Its funny because it wasn’t an 80’s party. It was a birthday party and the dress was black and white. There was a ‘supposed’ DJ there, but everyone just started grabbing his Ipod and picking songs they loved to dance to.

  80. FYI – I’ll be out of touch for a big chunk of the day starting in a few minutes.

  81. Dont use that “r” word just yet alli lurker. She has a long way to go. I think the album is the best of the season and she has shown loads of talent. Now, its a matter of getting her name out there, doing live stuff, touring with others, and working on the next album.
She should also work on improving her guitar skills and writing music. She looks extra cool when playing, and writing could make her music even more heartfelt.
“It is a long way to the top, if you wanna rock n roll”

  82. Jeebus, you guys, talking about ruining her career two weeks after her album release? Talk about over dramatic.

  83. PRMari
Jeebus, you guys, talking about ruining her career two weeks after her album release? Talk about over dramatic.

I hear you. I had my share of weak moments, but I believe that Allison will be a huge star. My response to alli lurker was a subtle way of saying “WTF are you talking about?” :-)
