Allison Iraheta To Sing the Anthem Before the Los Angeles Marathon, Shares Her Favorite Mile

Allison Iraheta will sing the National Anthem before the 25th Annual Los Angeles Marathon on Sunday, March 21.

The LA Times talked to Allison Iraheta about the two times she ran the marathon:

“I ran the marathon before — two years in a row, actually, ” she tells Idol Tracker. “But it will be a lot of fun to be watching and not running this year. Hopefully, I can bring a little motivation to those that are doing it for the first time.”

The starting line gun will fire at 7:20 a.m. just outside Dodger Stadium and immediately after Allison’s turn, but she’ll be sticking around to cheer on her old sister.

What was Allison’s running time? Check it out in the LA Times article HERE.

After the jump, watch as Allison shares her favorite mile of the Los Angeles Marathon (It’s mile 3!)

  1. This must be very exciting for Allison, getting to sing the National Anthem, being from LA and seeing her sister run, having done the marathon herself. I bet it’ll feel great for her.

  2. Yes, Allison has an older sister and an older brother. Her sister is a teacher at the school she used to attend, she was almost always in the audience during the Idol shows.

  3. Both, first half of the tour it was her mom, midway through she switched with her sister.

  4. Wow, she ran the marathon twice? That’s impressive. And now I’m wondering if she was one of the singers I’ve seen on the plaza over the years… Probably not — I’m sure she’d be memorable. *g*

I’d love to go hear her, but getting across town on marathon day is a freaking nightmare. I’ll just have to keep waiting patiently (um, sort of) for a concert.

  5. Need… more… Allison… news… GASP! Actually, I need more Allison performances. I can’t believe there’s no video of that Greenville thing! Seriously, Mama Iraheta needs to become a video expert and hook up with the Alliholics to get this stuff out on youtube. Some of us are seriously addicted and need to see it…

LOL. I think MJ meant to say her older sister. I don’t think she’s that old.

    Yes, waiting impatiently here, too.

  6. Yes, waiting impatiently here, too.

Just waiting impatiently here for another Allison thread. Finally! I was so bored I did my taxes and filled out the census. (Really). Are all of Allison’s fans on Spring Break? March Madness?

Anyway, it’s time for Allison to gather some momentum – before I have to use a walker to go to one of her concerts. :)

Anyway, good article, and I love this quote:

Though Allison cracks that she couldn’t walk for a week, the 17-year-old Glendale native says finishing the marathon was an enriching experience. “I remember rolling out of bed the next morning to go to school and I couldn’t even get my pants on,” she recalls. “You’re in such pain. you can’t bend over! But it’s worth it, because you feel so good.”

Tells you something about her spunk.

  7. she’ll be sticking around to cheer on her old sister

That made me crack up. Her ‘old’ sister is what, around 25?

I’m very impressed that she ran the marathon twice. I have friends who run it … and run every single day and they’re a mess for a week after it.

I’m fairly certain I’ve seen her sing on Olvera St. When watching the clips last year from that Quincenera competition, I thought I remembered her from somewhere around here. Now it makes sense.

  8. I’ve only seen one or two other times Allison take on the national anthem. Hopefully someone tapes it.

I know Allison has an innate knack for performing with feeling. So, I hope one day as she gets older she could apply it and venture into doing some blues stuff, or even just jamming at a club like Cozy’s in LA for instance. She’ll be great, though preferably, a recording session would be best.

There’s a woman out there that goes by the name of Gedina, who’s got a great feel for the blues with her raspy tone. I know there are others, this one can jam too. I like her voice, but I can only imagine Allison’s take on BB king’s “The Thrill Is Gone.” It could be historical.

    Check this out.
Here is Gedina performing The Thrill Is Gone with Slash at Cozy’s – good stuff for those who are into live music and blues and stuff.

And for variety, here is Orianthi doing The Thrill Is Gone as well with the same band jamming. Pretty sweet. I gotta give it to Orianthi for not just being a shredder, but also finding taste in Blues – even if she’s not feeling it, it would seem – but doing a real nice job nonetheless. I have to give her a chance given the state of music where solos have become an antique, here comes a young girl with a refreshing angle in music, and just maybe, we’ll get guitar solos once again. I’ve always thought the best part about music was the solos and riffs, and as fans of rock music, we would all be playing air guitar at live shows – even at home too. We’ll thats a thing of the ancient past, unfortunately.

Anyway, Slash is coming out with his solo album called “Slash and Friends” similar to Santana’s Supernatural. I thought Allison was gonna make the guest list, and since I’ve seen the track list and vocalists, sadly she isn’t listed even with faint rumors that were floating around last year.
    Guitar solos are back.

Rub, thank you, thank you, thank you! Those clips were wonderful. I was beginning to forget what music (to me) was all about. I can definitely see Allison in the middle of that environment. I’ve always felt the purest form of this type of music is collaboration, or jamming, and this exemplifies it for me. I’ll never forget watching clips of Mike Bloomfield jamming with Muddy Waters and other legends (John Lee Hooker, I think?) in a small Chicago club.

As for Allison, I’ve said my dream matchup would be Allison’s vocals with Orianthi’s guitar. And, since they both are managed by 19E, couldn’t this be arranged somehow, sometime, somewhere? Please!

Here are clips of a couple of Ori’s live performances. Try to imagine Allison’s vocals on What’s It Gonna Be?

I think Orianthi, unlike Allison, is not that strong of a live singer. But the two of them together..

Anyway, I guess the ghost of Mike Bloomfield is alive and well inside me.

  10. Bloomfield and Waters ha? Can you find that somewhere on youtube?
Oh, I can see Allison and Orianthi in that sphere. The wailer and the shredder. Maybe a jam session but I don’t think it could be materialized. Ima have to check out Oris album – see what is all about, maybe it isn’t representative.

Looked really hard, and this is the best I could come up with. Maybe I was thinking of the Junior Wells Tribute to Muddy Waters video, but the quality is really poor on that one. The Bloomfield-Waters cut below is from the Fathers and Sons concert of – ?.

ETA – To stay on topic – this was way before Allison was born, and I’m sure Muddy Waters and Mike Bloomfield never ran a marathon. :)

  12. Jordison that was awesome.
Allison could do really well singing crying style blues.
I wish she had more liberty to jam with the greats. I guess the label keeps tabs on her, or maybe not. Maybe nothing at all. Now Im wondering if Alli got this national anthem gig on her own, through her connections with the marathon.
