Allison Iraheta sang the National Anthem before today’s Los Angeles Marathon. Allison was not only there to sing, but to cheer on her sister, who was running in the race.

  1. Aww, she did a great job. I prefer the NA without quite so much melisma, but her voice was sure and strong, and she did it with confidence. Love her!

  2. WOW
She ventured into Christina and Beyonce’s game – vocal runs – and mastered it. Woo

  3. She has such an amazing voice. I’m w/sylvanaire in that I like a straight version of the NA, but there is no denying Alison’s talent. Love her!

I tend to prefer the national anthem sang without much melisma as well. The national anthem doesn’t need much done to it, so I prefer it sang in just a simple manor.

However, I do like how Allison sang it probably ’cause I really like her. It wasn’t very over the top or anything, so I liked it. :)

  5. NOT an Allison fan….SO, boring for me -like fingernails on a chalk board….ugh….but red hair matching red stripes in flag was cool…thats all!

  6. Allison sang that beautifully.

(Sigh – why don’t more people know that it really is so much nicer and more respectful to be still (not bopping around around, stretching, fiddling with your ipod) when the National Anthem is being sung?)

  7. I noticed that too, bridget. There’s no respect anymore, anywhere, it seems. *frowny face*

  8. I think she did a great job and adding a few runs don’t do any damage to the anthem, it’s when it turns all into runs and melisma that it all goes to crap.

ray1…why did you even watch the video if you don’t like her? Why torture yourself? I don’t get that. When I don’t like a singer, I simply don’t pay attention to what they do or listen to what they sing.

  9. Wonderful. I am so happy for her to be asked to sing the National Anthem for the Marathon. Kudos, Allison. And she sounded wonderful.

  10. She did OK. I don’t understand why she’s struggling in the marketplace so much. Best to Allison!

  11. I’m kicking myself. I completely forgot the Marathon was today and Dodger Stadium is literally just over the hill. Had I been outside I may have heard her or had I turned on the TV I could have seen this live. Forget driving over. There is no way I would deal with the traffic if I could even get in being a non-runner.

I think Allison did very well on this and most important is she sang it with emotion. I’m in the camp that gets very irritated when people do not pay our anthem respect. It’s something that is sorely lacking in education via the system and at home.

  12. That was awesome!

That was a pretty straight rendition folks. She barely added any runs.

As a sports fan I have heard the anthem sung thousands of times. That was about as straight as it gets

  13. Wow, Allison, beautiful.
You’ve brought me out of lurkdom. She truly does have a gorgeous voice and I look forward to seeing her career flourish as she gets older and grows into herself, so to speak, as an artist.

  14. That was great. For me, one of the best interpretations of the NA. She’s in great voice and that note in “free” was so powerful! <3

  15. Was this thing even televised? They couldn’t find her a spot in a LA Clippers game?

  16. Even with the crappy sound in this video, that gorgeous rich voice comes through. Enough embellishment to make it interesting without going overboard the way so many singers do.

I love the change to the melody she made on “what so proudly”. I’ve never heard anyone do it that way before, and it’s fantastic.

  17. Was this thing even televised? They couldn’t find her a spot in a LA Clippers game?

I know right?! She’s so meant to sing it on an important game. unfortunately her management is doing a poor job promoting her and finding spots for her to perform. It’s such a shame since she’s great and her album is awesome.

  18. Her management sucks, they’re too busy with Carrie Underwood apparently.

  19. I really, really loved it. The voice and the emotion – it was very powerful. She got me all misty again… love that about her.

I just the wish the camera person had used a zoom lens!

    Ah, much better… sorry mj!

  21. I understand the frustation with Allison’s career but her management has actually done a good job with her promotion. Being back on Idol, decent gigs on late night TV etc. The big problem is radio not responding to her singles.

  22. That is an amazing rendition. I also think the NA should be done straight, but mainly because so many people have butchered it. Allison’s take, I think, while embellished a bit, was respectfully done, and full of emotion.
Regarding the management, one fail on their part is that they haven’t marketed her enough to the US Latino market. I read somewhere that Don Francisco (of Sabado Gigante fame) and Cristina (the closest to Oprah Latin-America has to offer) want to meet with her, but the management has not moved forward on it.

  23. Allison baby- YOU ROCK!!!

    What a voice…

Nope- don’t think AI will ever get as lucky as last year with singers as powerful and interesting as Allison and Adam.

  24. I understand the frustation with Allison’s career but her management has actually done a good job with her promotion. Being back on Idol, decent gigs on late night TV etc. The big problem is radio not responding to her singles.

That’s part of the label’s job and I’m sorry but ever since she premiered Scars on Idol, she hasn’t done any other radio or tv promo, how is that going to help push the single? One tv performance in a results night that was competing against the Olympic finals and at the begining of the season when nobody cares about who leaves and who stays is not going to sell the single all by itself. This second single has gotten zero promotion other than the Idol performance.

On a happier note, nobody can take away her talent and beautiful voice and musicality. As long as she’s doing music, I’ll be happy albeit frustrated because she deserves so much more than she’s getting. Also , some new (old) pictures of her album photoshoot popped up yesterday. They are absolutely fantastic:

  25. Also , some new (old) pictures of her album photoshoot popped up yesterday.

I like those pictures (9 and 10 are my faves). I’d love to see her perform in a bit more edgy, rock look – like what she’s wearing there. She just needs to stay away from trashy.

I always really like black & white photos of her. I wonder if that means I’d like to see her in her natural hair color…?

  26. I must confess to liking them all but specially the blindfolded one and the black and white full body one.

  27. Sorry that I haven’t been able to comment until now. I DVR’s the entire KTLA marathon telecast – about 3 1/2 hours total. Started about 1/2 hour before the race, and wrapped up about 1/2 hour after the first finishers. I fast forwarded through the whole thing and could not find the NA anywhere in the broadcast. There were a couple of clips of Allison’s comments about the marathon, however.

I’m glad somebody recorded this. I thought Allison did an excellent job. Sorry, once again, that she didn’t get more exposure.

    Call me frustrated.

  28. I’m looking at the list of R&B songs for next week and there are many that I would love to hear Allison sing. Maybe she should be an R&B singer.

  29. Allison has an awesome voice. She sang National Anthem amazing.
The reason why she has not sell her albums as she should is because her managers are not given her the right exposure. They need to train Allison how to talk and act on the TV and the Radios, then invite her more to the TV’s and promote her albums. I bought her album and for me it is great. Next album maybe she can sing a few songs that have a HEAVIER ROCK.
