  1. Regarding Allison’s Idol Confessions:

First of all, she looks beautiful, speaks with confidence, and has a charming twinkle in her eye.

Regarding the word/picture association for Simon – my first reaction was, wow, she just outright told Simon he sucks. Then I realized, if this were an analogy test, then Randy – “dog”, Simon – “you suck” could be interpreted as quick reaction to things they typically conveyed to her. Similarly, Ryan represents the grim reaper of elimination to the contestants.

So, which was it? Allison telling Simon he sucks, or Allison saying that “you suck” is what Simon conveyed to her?

This was either an unintentional conundrum or a brilliant inspirational moment. It’s like scratching your nose with your middle finger and then saying, “no way was I flipping you the bird, I was only scratching my nose.”

I’m sure the official interpretation will be that it was Simon telling Allison she sucks. I think that’s what it was. But if not, then we really need want to know more about this.

  2. So, which was it? Allison telling Simon he sucks, or Allison saying that “you suck” is what Simon conveyed to her?

A little bit of both. Also notice how she said she wouldn’t trade any of her Idol memories, “as bad as they were” and calls the summer tour another “slap in the face”. Methinks Allison has some Idol related “Scars” that will stay with her for a while.

Great acapella verses of Scars by the way and she does look beautiful. I miss seeing her in my tv, I don’t know what the heck is her management team and label waiting for to start actually promoting her single.

  3. This Oreo Cakester jingle promotion with Anoop and Matt has been making me laugh so hard. Anoop comes across in this video as if he is promoting some serious political issue, while Matt is the funny guy who clearly is not taking this very seriously at all. They are such an odd couple, and it is fun to have an excuse for them to do a project together. I know there are at least a lot of fans of both who have tried Oreo Cakesters and would not have without this promo. I certainly had never heard of Oreo Cakesters.

I love Matt’s Princess and the Frog performance. I bet it would be Matt’s dream job to sing a song for a Disney movie.

  4. allison’s snippet of singing in that video just reminds me of how terrible season 9 is. none of those kids come close.

I think in this case the “slap in the face” was the fact that – bam, wake up, here we go – right after Idol they had to immediately get ready for the tour; not that she was insulted or disrespected on the tour. I think the whole point was that she’s hardly had a chance to breathe or reflect on everything since Idol.

Nonetheless, I really wish the producers had shown the judges’ (i.e. Simon’s) reactions to Scars during the performance. I’m really curious if there was anything that caused “the face” at the end of the song.

Her phrasing is exquisite, very professional.

The slap in the face was a reference to the back to back work Allison had to go through right after the show. From all the interviews Ive seen, the tour was her best Idol experience. “The face” at the end of Scars was just Alli showing Simon – in your face sucka – Im back.

    I like her style.

  7. Matt,Anoop and Oreo Cakesters is just mad funny!

Loved the LA Times Q&A with Allison too.

    Thannks mj. :)

  8. I agree about the slap in the face being more about her not having any time to go back to anything remotely like her normal life, but the comment about her not wanting to forget any Idol memories “as bad as they are” is pretty clear.

Which makes it even sadder that she’s not getting the attention and love she deserves, she’s a fantastic singer, and no, it’s not all about the voice. It’s what she does with it.

Well I can’t imagine being told you’re a bad singer, or awkward, or dress funny – in front of millions of people – week after week would exactly be a happy memory…. I’m sure a bunch of her Idol memories are great, but you have to imagine that they aren’t ALL good.

I don’t remember Simon or any of the other judges ever calling Allison a bad singer. Maybe sometimes they criticized her song choice or arrangement (e.g., Cry Baby and Hot Stuff – and I take issue with that). But the other stuff – definitely.

Simon said she didn’t show any personality, and people would have a hard time remembering who she was. In hindsight, he may have been trying to help her by hinting that she had a great personality, but just didn’t show any of it on air. Still, when he accused her of begging, he crossed way, way over the line. Teenager or not, that was really disrespectful, and Allison had every right to retaliate. Also, when Simon called her “this one”, as in “Adam, you may have saved this one,” he was really condescending.

Anyway, I think the judges were very hypocritical when they went all ga-ga over Allison’s exit performance of Cry Baby when they’d been so ice cold the night before.

She has a right to have some sour grapes.

  11. Lol i can read on Allison’s face how much she hates doing this. LOL

  12. I forgot how much Matt loves Disney. That video is funny and good all at the same time. He really sings and plays that song well. Disney sign Matt to a movie score!

Allison was great and raw in the LA Times interview. I’m pretty sure the ‘face slap’ was in response to the question of did she have time to get back to a normal life. Face Slap = Wake Up Call. It’s not over and back to your former real life when you get off the show, the work is just beginning.

The Oreo promo was way out of sync so was difficult to follow. I skipped the Scott stuff. Sorry.

  13. I love allison’s singing, her 2 great singles, and she is just getting started. Allison will have a long and successful career.
Great to see the fast thinking quick witted Matt Giraud again too.

  14. Love, love, love Matt and Anoop!

Matt is just frickin hilarious, whether he is playing to Anoop’s straight man or in high goof mode with BFF Gokey.

    I miss him :(

  15. Loved Matt signing the Disney song but of course I love hearing him sing anything.

I will be attending his concert at the Gilmore Festival April 21st. I am looking for someone to broadcast a cellcert. Let me know if you are interested?

  16. Lol i can read on Allison’s face how much she hates doing this. LOL

Nah, I think she’s just tired and a little stressed.

  17. Cook did the same as Alli talking about how “nobody had to vote on him” and stuff, and immediately stupid Seacrest interrupts him to talk album. Ain’t that a noble idea Ryan to help the artist.
I wish he did that for Alli, but NOOoo, instead look at S9 and then take a seat Allison.
I respect what these past idols do, but I don’t like any idol past or present, winner or not, just one.

  18. I love Allison’s spirit. Nothing seems to bring her down. I hope that means she’ll be around for a long time. I’m not sure how Scars is gonna turn out for her. I’m really liking Pieces right now. I think it has a similar message, but a lot more spirit. It seems more like her, imo.

I’m not sure that saying “you suck” in response to Simon’s picture was great idea, but it made me laugh out loud and I loved her grin afterward. Very Allison.

Ain’t that a noble idea Ryan to help the artist.

Maybe Ryan learned from his mistake with Allison. That’s why I wish she wasn’t the first guest performer of the season.

The Runaways opens this weekend… yeah baby!

  19. Hey Rub, I didn’t comment about One More Reason because at the time I thought it was ‘meh’, kind of generic. (And my mamma always said – if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all – not that I listened!) But you know what, I just listened to it three times in a row, and I kind of like it now. Go figure… maybe I’m just starved for new Allison performances.

I have no idea if it would do well on Top 40, since I don’t listen. I do like that it’s fun. Allison is fun. Can’t we all have some fun? That’s all we really waaant, is some fuuuunnn.

People would have given her tons of grief if she had released this as her first single, though. Even more than she got for FIBOU. Its super poppy.

  20. Meh, if Adam can say Susan Boyle’s album suck and it made him laugh, and he can say that Gene Simmons is a d*ck and all the other “controversial” things he has said and people don’t seem to care, I doubt it’ll be an issue that Allison’s gut reaction to Simon is “you suck”. It’s refreshing.

  21. PRM – You’re such a good Allison fan… posting everything, everywhere. I hope she appreciates all you do for her.

She looks really good in the pictures. I love that lip color on her. Her hair looks great, too. I almost thought it was a wig at first!

Did she perform at that event? I’m beginning to worry that she’s becoming more style over substance (did I just say that?) Anyway, I wish she’d sing more.

  22. Maybe one issue is that her musicians need to get paid and the more inconsequential gigs she plays, the more they’d spend on them. She did sing at this event, but I think it was with a house band or something. Hopefully something is going on behind the scenes that we don’t know of. At this point, I think they should send her on a college tour, even if it’s just her and Dave. I think her music would go down very well with college kids, I know at least four of my students (the only ones that I’ve played her to) really liked her. I think her management really, really sucks but at least she’s out there and meeting people and doing things that keep her somewhat visible.

BTW, both you and Allison are welcome. I’m just a fan who likes to share ;)

  23. I think the college tour is a good idea, too. I keep talking about that review in Madison, WI, but I think those two songs – D and YDKM – would be popular with the college crowd. I could definitely hear those songs on college stations. (Pieces, too!)

I keep thinking they’ll send her out on a summer tour with someone. I hope its not just wishful thinking.

I think she herself needs to work on reaching out to fans and getting more people rooting for her. One thing I remember from Idol was that she didn’t seem to thank the audience for voting for her. It was like she thought the judges just put her through. She needs to understand that the fans buy the music.

I also think she needs to work on her stage presence. I honestly think she was better on Idol than I’ve seen her recently. Everyone talks about t-rex arm being her ‘signature move’, but I think a lot of people think its weird – or at least a sign of nervousness. I remember reading a comment on Slezak’s site after her Idol appearance that said she seemed so natural last season, but now she just seems weird (ouch!). I never noticed t-rex arm during her Idol run, and I don’t think people should encourage it now. That’s my opinion, anyway.
