Adam Lambert, Working in the Studio with Ryan Tedder, Dr. Luke and Claude Kelly

Since the American Idols Live tour ended last week, Adam Lambert has been busy in the studio, working on his album, due to be released 11/24.

Adam keeps his fans updated via Twitter:

On 9/20 @adamlambert twittered:

In Denver recording w Ryan Tedder!!! Get ready for your Sonic Lobotomy!

On 9/22

Denver Tedder sessions were major! Looking forward to working with the fantastic Dr Luke and Claude Kelly tommorow!

Adam cut a track called “Obsession” according to ex-OneRepbulic member, Jerrod Bettis @J_Skins. He also recorded songs Tedder co-wrote with country songwriter, Aimee Mayo (Kellie Pickler’s “I Wonder”) @AimeeMayo.

I know it sounds corny, but this album is a dream come true. I am lucky to be working with the BEST producers & writers in the world!

Get ready to shake yo asses!!! There be some beats a comin!

Adam is excited!

Ryan Tedder, of OneRepublic (“Apologize”) has written hits for Jordin Sparks (“Battlefield”) and Kelly Clarkson (“Already Gone”). Dr. Luke has also worked with Kelly (“Since U Been Gone”, “My Life Would Suck Without You”) and Britney Spears (Circus). Claude Kelly has worked with Kelly Clarkson, Jordin Sparks, Britney Spears and Lady Gaga.

Deets for Idol releases are typically kept under wraps, but one tune “Strut”, Adam co-wrote with Kara DioGuardi, has been revealed by Rolling Stone.   Speculation is that “Strut” will be Adam’s first single off the album.

  1. Could somebody tell me about this song “obsession” and where the info came from? I tried to find it in comments, but couldn’t

Maybe J Skin’s Twitter? He is also working with Ryan for Adam. Let me check.

Well I guess it was. LOL

  3. One of the songs Adam worked on with Ryan Tedder was written by country songwriter Aimee Mayo:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aimee_Mayo

For the Idol fans, she wrote “I Wonder” for Kellie Pickler. And bunch of other major country hits.

Anyhoo, she’s been hilariously tweeting about Adam ALL SUMMER! She’s been on a prayer vigil trying to get Adam to record one of her songs and it finally happened! LOL!

@adamlambert I co-wrote * * you cut with Ryan. I am so happy I could cry. Your voice woke me up- I have needed someone to inspire me again

Here is her MySpace page so you can here some samples of her work (including the Pickler song)

  4. LOL her tweets crack me up. If she wasn’t a songwriter I’d probably write her off as a typical Adam cray cray like one of us. :D :D

  5. New ones from Aimee:

@adamlambert I just realized my message to you will be backwards.not in order. this is the last one. I’m so excited I haven’t slept all weekabout 7 hours ago from web in reply to adamlambert

Holy shit! I just realized Adam is following me on here. It was a jolt of adrenaline that felt blue and cold seeing that. Hell Yeah!about 6 hours ago from web

    LOL

ETA: Wouldn’t it be funny if Adam went country after Country Week with Randy Travis? ;)

  6. I heart Adam’s tweets :-) They always sound just like him

“Shake yo asses, bitches.” Oh, Adam!

  7. [laugh] Is this the new place for the Adam ‘tards to hang out today so we don’t clutter up the headlines thread again?

  8. [laugh] Is this the new place for the Adam ‘tards to hang out today so we don’t clutter up the headlines thread again?

LOL! My thoughts exactly! MJ’s gotta put us in the special room or something :-)

  9. So Adam is working with Ryan Tedder and Claude Kelly. Kris is working with Ryan Tedder and Claude Kelly. Adam, Allison and Kris are all working with Kevin Rudolf. Adam and Allison are both working with Max Martin.

Are there any other producers/writers that at least two of these three AI8 Idols are/have worked with, or is that it?

Also, do we know if Adam went to NY for these Dr. Luke/Claude Kelly sessions, or if they flew out to L.A.?

  10. Happy Birthday, Squirrely. I think working on the album is more important than publicity right now. And when he and Kris are on every talk show imaginable, we’ll probably worry about over exposure and the OTT anticipation again.

And maybe we are swallows winging to Capistrano, but many of us have never been on the AI ride at all (speaking for myself) until Adam, so we are bound to be a little over wrought from time to time. I, for one, appreciate the chance to share no matter what. And Simon Fuller would be nuts not to manage Adam given their international hopes for him.

  11. [laugh] Is this the new place for the Adam ‘tards to hang out today so we don’t clutter up the headlines thread again?

LOL! My thoughts exactly! MJ’s gotta put us in the special room or something

LMAO. Poor mj. Season 9 cannot come fast enough for her, I’m sure! Thanks for throwing us a bone.

  12. “the special room or something” – I may be in the padded one before the damn single comes out.

  13. So Adam is working with Ryan Tedder and Claude Kelly. Kris is working with Ryan Tedder and Claude Kelly. Adam, Allison and Kris are all working with Kevin Rudolf. Adam and Allison are both working with Max Martin.

Hmm — good point about them all working with so many of the same producers/songwriters. You wouldn’t think their styles would lend themselves to that as much (well, except maybe a little of an Adam/Allison overlap).

My thinking is that if the Aimee Mayo song makes the cut, it will be a slower ballad-y type thing.

  14. And I know this AimeeMayo person is an established songwriter, but her tweets have her coming off as a cray cray fantard. This is just my own opinion, but she should probably scale the OTT stuff back a tad. It’s great that she’s so excited that Adam is recording her stuff, but IDK, it just comes off as a little unprofessional to me.

If you want to know who Adam is working with, then check out this thread. I compiled a list of everyone that has been confirmed as well as rumored.

    http://idolforums.com/index.php?showtopic=620346

There are quite a few people that are unique to Adam – like RedOne, Sam Sparro, Jim Jonsin, Rob Cavallo

  16. ‘the special room or something’ ‘“ I may be in the padded one before the damn single comes out.

LeeTravers-I am already there and I am bouncing off the (not so soft) walls.
    Lord help us.

  17. Continued from yesterday:

Brian Mansfield hasn’t heard Strut. Not sure if he has heard any of the album–he hasn’t answered me back yet–but I get the feeling that he hasn’t.

brian_mansfield: If we got it, it didn’t come to me, and nobody’s told me about it. Who’d you hear from?

ETA: I like this thread: Adam Lambert’s fans get to talk about him without bothering anyone else. ;)

  18. [laugh] Is this the new place for the Adam ‘tards to hang out today so we don’t clutter up the headlines thread again?

Hey all…oh forgot my Tinhat…..ok that’s better wanted to make sure I was properly attired for this thread. ;-)

  19. This is what my life has come down to. In a special room, gnawing on a bone.

  20. Has anyone seen any official announcement as to when Adam’s single is dropping? That Oct. 12th date was never confirmed, right?

  21. Are there any other producers/writers that at least two of these three AI8 Idols are/have worked with, or is that it?

They are all working with David Hodges as well.
Adam has also recorded songs with Redone and maybee (did we have confirmation?) Sam Sparro and Ferras.

  22. Oh this is our VIP Adam room. I can see the coffee, cookies, and even cappuccino on the round table ;-)

  23. Also, do we know if Adam went to NY for these Dr. Luke/Claude Kelly sessions, or if they flew out to L.A.?

I think they recorded in Aspen. There is, apparently, an amazing recording studio out there, according to Ryan T. Someone reported seeing Adam at a club in Denver last night.

    Very unprofessional. She sounds ridiculous.

  25. Also, do we know if Adam went to NY for these Dr. Luke/Claude Kelly sessions, or if they flew out to L.A.?

I don’t think we know but Adam was up awfully early this morning (tweet about 4.30 EST) so maybe he was the one doing the flying (or he went to bed very late).

ETA: how long is the flight from Denver to New York and LA?

She’s not out to impress anyone on her twitter. Her work I’m sure would speak for her. She’s being her own human cray cray self, and I love it. :) It’s good to know that we’re not the only ones who are totally insane about this guy.

  27. HSM, you are freakin’ hilarious. An Adamtard here joining the new fun.

Did you see the news on IDF, that there will be an AdamStorm, or I like to call it, an ADAMQUAKE in the next 2 weeks and that Simon Fuller is personally managing Adam!! Whoo, whoo. (hiding this screen as boss walks by!)

  28. RE: the “special room” – looks like it;s getting crowded. Do we need to make a reservation? If so, please put me on the list. ;o)

  29. So we got our own Adam thread. I don’t know whether to feel special or pitiful.

  30. It’s great that she’s so excited that Adam is recording her stuff, but IDK, it just comes off as a little unprofessional to me.

IMO, Jim Cantiello and Michael Slezak have come off a little unprofessional when tweeting about Kris over the last couple of days. Kris and Adam have a strange effect on people, heh.

  32. So we got our own Adam thread. I don’t know whether to feel special or pitiful.

As long as you don’t use the term OTT, I would say both. ;)

ETA: I agree re: Slezak and Cantiello. I think it’s hilarious. But wait till Slezak gets more information about Allison. Much squeeing will ensue. ;)

    Sad, but probably true.

True, very true. Add Lyndsey Parker to that list as well.

    How so??

  40. So is this thread all done up in bright, glittery colors and adorned with lots of accroutements in honor of Adam?

  41. aa618892,

LOL, I think a little special AND a little pitiful!!!

BTW, the GMA concert is the day b4 my birthday, so I may take the day off from work to go as a present to ME! Anyone else going to the GMA concert?

Can’t wait for ANY song to leak!

  42. I personally see nothing wrong with Aimee’s tweets. They’re hilarious. Besides tweets don’t really say what we really are in real life. I tend to go a little OTT with mine because it’s amusing to me, and a little online venue for escapism can’t hurt.

  43. So Adams record is gonna be dance radio friendly material. I wonder if Adam will be profitable after paying all these mainstream producers?

The producer that Im looking forward to is Cavallo’s track.

  44. girlygirl

With multiple copies of RS and Velvet Goldmine for your viewing pleasure!!

  45. However, if you like, I’ll put out the lollipop pail.

…the metaphorical one, vs the real one I took away from the kids this morning. In RL its my husband who’s the lolly pusher!

That said, anytime I can convince the neighborhood kids that mowing the lawn for lollipops is fun, I give myself a pat on the back [evil grin]

This is what my life has come down to. In a special room, gnawing on a bone.

To quote Adam: I knooooow right???

Someone reported seeing Adam at a club in Denver last night.

Not sure I’m buying that he was at that club. It was one tweet, I believe, that said:

Come hang with adam lambert at the bluebird. He’s watching autolux. :p
    43 minutes ago from txt

Sounds like another Lambama/Lamgaga from the other night. There would have been more tweets than that one.

Checked out Claude Kelly and Dr. Luke’s info and seems they are based out of NY, so maybe on a plane this morning, thus the early tweet about Kris’s single.

I really like that Claude Kelly retweeted Adam’s tweet about working with him with: Yay! Can’t Wait!

  49. I personally see nothing wrong with Aimee’s tweets. They’re hilarious. Besides tweets don’t really say what we really are in real life. I tend to go a little OTT with mine because it’s amusing to me, and a little online venue for escapism can’t hurt.

she is a bit fangirly, but it’s cute…

  50. Hey all’ ¦oh forgot my Tinhat’ ¦..ok that’s better wanted to make sure I was properly attired for this thread.

Is this where we dissect Adam and Kris tweeting about doing dishes as well ;-)

That tweet seriously messed me up last night – I was all set to go to bed, and then I get a Kradam tweet. Too cruel, Adam, too cruel!

  51. Wow that is some list’ ¦.There seems to be enough produces for two Albums’ ¦Hey not a bad Idea.. (Pats tin-hat firmly so it does not fall off)

dhunken, are you thinkin’ what I’m thinkin’….? Adam has mentioned that he has about two dozen possible songs to choose from, so I say use ’em all and give us a double CD! I swear I’m going to have it worn out within a week and will be needing a constant supply of fresh material!

Hoppers, maybe your husband can make a better profit pushing Adam songs than lollies….

  52. Need more tweets from songwriters, anyone.

Well, I’m going to put things back in perspective and say, it’ll be good enough if he has some strong songs for just ONE album! Writing good music is hard enough, especially in such a short amount of time, so I’ll just be happy to have a few winners on there that get good airplay and help the album take off.

  55. [laugh] Is this the new place for the Adam ‘tards to hang out today so we don’t clutter up the headlines thread again?

Exactly. mj, got the children out from under-foot by sending them to the playroom with cake, so the grownups can enjoy their wine in peace. LOL

  56. Happy Birthday Squirrely! I brought over the birthday cake, tea and coffee from yesterday’s headlines thread.

Everyone, please serve yourself while I pretend to work today.

HSM, may I please have a merlot flavored lolly?

  57. MJ’s gotta put us in the special room or something

for a few days already. heeeee.

  58. Votivo Red Currant, I hope’ ¦..

But of course! was there any doubt? hehe..

  59. The discussion of Simon Fuller managing Adam was started in the Headlines thread. Shall we discuss that over here? I’m remembering a conversation Adam had at one of the AP’s with a woman from England. She asked Adam if he was going to be touring in England. He said something like probably next year. Then he said that Simon Fuller was working on that. So, that might have been our first clue as to Fuller personally managing Adam.

  60. On confirmation of the drop date for an Adam single:

The FMQB radio industry web site lists 10/12, FWIW.

They also list Jordin, SOS, 9/29, and Jason C, Let’s Just Fall in Love Again, 10/5. No title for Adam. No date that I can see for Kris.

    http://www.fmqb.com/Article.asp?id=16691

  61. I always thought Simon Fuller was going to manage Adam anyway, when he was the one who confirmed Adam being signed to RCA/19E post-finale. Just the way that he gushed about it all made me think Adam was his new baby.

  62. 4evrmomof4, I was considering going to GMA…maybe we could get a little crew together from MJs?

  63. I think Aimee’s tweets are cute. There doesn’t seem to be any requirement to be professional on twitter… Has anyone read Ferras’ tweets? Sometimes he sounds like a 12 year old (a very vulgar 12 year old!) Also, it looks like Ferras is traveling to Nashville to write with Aimee based on both their tweets.

  64. Damn! We’re all set up with our special scented candle, refreshments, and, to prevent self-inflicted flail injuries, we’re in a special padded room, presumably with great acoustics, so…. where the %&!$’s the song leak!!??

    Must have new Adam songs!

  65. I’ve gotta say, watching the Kradam “Live Like We’re Dying” video has helped make me appreciate the song a lot more than my initial impression. Thanks to the ONTD_AI bench who made the video, if you’re lurking here. :)

  66. So, that might have been our first clue as to Fuller personally managing Adam.

Or possibly that Fuller is just using his connections for that aspect. He’s too big a guy to be Adam’s manager IMHO.

  67. So, that might have been our first clue as to Fuller personally managing Adam.

Actually, that was openly acknowledged by Adam way back when he first signed his recording deal at the end of the season, wasn’t it?

  68. dhunken, are you thinkin’ what I’m thinkin” ¦.? Adam has mentioned that he has about two dozen possible songs to choose from, so I say use ’em all and give us a double CD! I swear I’m going to have it worn out within a week and will be needing a constant supply of fresh material!

Oh yes I am anthrogeek yes I am!!!

Well, I’m going to put things back in perspective and say, it’ll be good enough if he has some strong songs for just ONE album! Writing good music is hard enough, especially in such a short amount of time, so I’ll just be happy to have a few winners on there that get good airplay and help the album take off.

    Oh Mary102 you’re such a killjoy….(Just Kidding) :-)

  69. yeah a good news Adam thread. I stayed away from yesterday’s dooms day, angsting thread so I don’t get HBP. so excited for Adam.
That Aimee Mayo sure tweet stalked Adam into following her.

Personally I think Lyndsey parker, Michael slezak and Jim cantiello have all been a bit unprofessional when dealing with their favs so I ‘ll give Aimee a pass. she’s not even a media person like the others.

  70. So, that might have been our first clue as to Fuller personally managing Adam.

Actually, that was openly acknowledged by Adam way back when he first signed his recording deal at the end of the season, wasn’t it?

What was said back then? Has Fuller managed anyone else?

  71. I’ve gotta say, watching the Kradam ‘Live Like We’re Dying’ video has helped make me appreciate the song a lot more than my initial impression. Thanks to the ONTD_AI bench who made the video, if you’re lurking here. :)

LOL That’s what Susan M. and I said last night! I have watched it over and over, and it helps to have imagery. Okay, it was fun to watch Kradam, and since it was linked to his song, I now enjoy his song.

I have been thinking about a double album, too. I doubt it, b/c Adam, etal will probably have an interesting array of songs that fit together in some way OR that showcase his talent best. Of course, any song (including Want) is fine w/ me (except IICHY, as previously noted)!

This thread is beating the headlines thread re: posters. It’s not a competition, I just thought that was kind of funny. And I don’t think mj has to monitor this thread, since it’s not about bashing the other Idols (in fact, I suspect a lot of Kradison love in here), it’s about chatting re: Adam.

    Where’s the Kool Aid? ;)

ETA: In the Headlines thread, it said that Fuller was managing Cook as well.

  72. so some people are excited that Simon Fuller will be managing Adam. I don’t know much abt him but I assume it’s a good thing?. compared to some other manager?,

who wld be considered a bad manager or which former idol had a bad manger so I understand what’s happening here. thanks.

  73. What was said back then? Has Fuller managed anyone else?

Someone with access to all their saved Adam links will have to answer this one, as I’m at work…. um, working… yeah, that’s it…. and all the goods are at home. I do recall getting the impression that Fuller reserves personal management for the relative few in whom he sees the most star potential, though I don’t recall the previous Idols he took on. Seemed at the time that both he and Adam were excited about it.

  74. Personally I think Lyndsey parker, Michael slezak and Jim cantiello have all been a bit unprofessional when dealing with their favs so I ‘ll give Aimee a pass. she’s not even a media person like the others.

At least Lynsey interviews everyone, and it seems many women act giddy around Adam (e.g., Laura Saltman). Slezak and Cantiello seem to limit their interviews to Kris. It does confirm that Cantiello is madly in love with Kris. Normally guys don’t act like that unless they’re ten years old.

  75. What was said back then? Has Fuller managed anyone else?

Fuller has managed Carrie, Kelly and Daughtry. Adam said that Fuller was arranging for his appearance in Britain.

  76. Okay, it was fun to watch Kradam, and since it was linked to his song, I now enjoy his song.

I was just thinking this morning that all of the Top Ten really have the overwhelming interest in Adam to thank for their enhanced visibility. If not for him, I would have stopped following all of the Idols as soon as the season ended, including Kris, like I have every previous year, but this year I now know an awful lot about ALL of them that I would never have known if it weren’t a side result of following Adam throughout the tour. I hope they’re appreciative of that!

  77. Actually, that was openly acknowledged by Adam way back when he first signed his recording deal at the end of the season, wasn’t it?

I do remember that but there is a chain of command in any organization. Fuller personally managing Adam may be less managing and more of a “go to guy” for certain issues.

  78. Someone with access to all their saved Adam links will have to answer this one, as I’m at work’ ¦. um, working’ ¦ yeah, that’s it’ ¦. and all the goods are at home. I do recall getting the impression that Fuller reserves personal management for the relative few in whom he sees the most star potential, though I don’t recall the previous Idols he took on. Seemed at the time that both he and Adam were excited about it.

I’m surprised I didn’t know that info. I guess Fuller wanted to make sure no one would botch this up. No wonder Adam didn’t mind one iota that he didn’t win idol. Fuller must have told him that he will be well taken care of. Probably another reason Cowell said on numerous talk shows about Adam becoming an international star.

  79. Regarding Adams 2 dozen or so songs recorded, one of my favorite bands, The Kooks, put out the usual CD, but on their tour they sold a double CD, one of the released CD and one of the songs that didn’t make it.

Maybe that’s what Adam will do. (Crossing fingers)

  80. I do remember that but there is a chain of command in any organization. Fuller personally managing Adam may be less managing and more of a ‘go to guy’ for certain issues.

Yeah, I’m sure Fuller’s got his share of lackeys for all the grunt work!

Oh, yeah… if I see any “Lackey Wanted” ads on Monster, I call first dibs!

  81. What was said back then? Has Fuller managed anyone else?

    Kelly, Carrie, and Daughtry.

ETA: You guys are too fast! I can’t keep up.

  82. Fuller has managed Carrie, Kelly and Daughtry. Adam said that Fuller was arranging for his appearance in Britain.

So he has managed quite a few. I’m surprised he managed Daughtry considering he didn’t even make it to top two.

Not true — Slezak interviewed all the Top 10 for Idolatry, and when he went to the show in Albany, he interviewed all the Idols who were made available for the press that day — the videos were all posted on EW.com

Same thing with Jim C — he has interviewed most of this year’s Idols. He came out to the L.A. tour stop to do just that…

And Slezak’s favorite is Allison…although both he and Jim C love Kris. Both guys also like Adam as well…

Damn! We’re all set up with our special scented candle, refreshments, and, to prevent self-inflicted flail injuries, we’re in a special padded room, presumably with great acoustics, so’ ¦. where the %&!$’s the song leak!!??

    Must have new Adam songs!

In between checking this blog for something new about Adam, I did manage to get some RL things taken care of. Now I can happily sit and read. :)

  86. “LeeTravers

    …… I had a life once.”

Me, too! But sometimes this “Adam life” is more fun and entertaining!

  87. I doubt Adam will release a double album as his debut. That would be a huge risk. Most double albums even from established acts have a lot of filler. It’s hard enough to come up with 12 songs that are strong enough to actually go on an album, let alone 24. And I think Adam was talking about how many songs they had had submitted to them — not how many of them were actually really good.

Better simply to release a kick-ass album with 12 songs where there are no real weak inks. Bonus tracks, etc. can come later.

  88. OK, for the first time I searched Simon Fuller. He manages quite a few people, not just singers. How the heck does he have time for that?

  89. Were we provided with straight jackets?

Yep – they’re over in the corner behind the table with the lollipops – just in case …

  90. So he has managed quite a few. I’m surprised he managed Daughtry considering he didn’t even make it to top two.

The buzz that year (first year I followed Idol at all) was that Daughtry was the Chosen One, the one they wanted to win because he had the most potential. That last didn’t change because he finished fourth, any more than Adam’s second place finish has hurt him.

  91. rowenaaine,

That would be awesome! Who’s up to meeting at GMA concert 11/24?

Hopefully,, it will only be a matter of days until SOME song leaks!!!

  92. Oh, yeah’ ¦ if I see any ‘Lackey Wanted’ ads on Monster, I call first dibs!

well, then can I be the lackey to the lackey?

  93. If Adam gets his album put out on iTunes as a library issue (like Pearl Jam and MUSE), we also some extras like a live video (maybe from the Tour?), sometimes a behind the scenes footage, lyrics, credits, background colors–stuff like that. I got it for $11.99 for Muse; you can get it for $9.99 for Pearl Jam (tho I am not going to buy PJ). It’s just included now: you don’t pay extra. I bet it will be available, since it was for Muse. *fingers crossed*

  94. They are all working with David Hodges as well.
Adam has also recorded songs with Redone and maybee (did we have confirmation?) Sam Sparro and Ferras.

There was confimation of both those things. And according to Aimee’s latest Tweets, Ferras is going down to Nashville to work on a song for Adam.

  95. What was said back then? Has Fuller managed anyone else?

Fuller has managed Carrie, Kelly and Daughtry. Adam said that Fuller was arranging for his appearance in Britain.

Not bad company ;-) Very happy about that.

I am seriously going to England to see Adam perform ;-) The awesomeness of Britain combined with the awesomeness of Adam = double-awesomeness!!

sidwalkstory, as a fellow Adam fan, you come highly recommended – you’re HIRED!

  97. 107 posts and counting, peeps. How can I get any work done?

LOL! I know! I made a vow this morning to get lots of work done, and then I had to see MJ post “Starting a new Adam thread” And my reaction was:

    Well, there goes Wednesday…

  98. I am seriously going to England to see Adam perform The awesomeness of Britain combined with the awesomeness of Adam = double-awesomeness!!

Did you win a lottery? I’ll be lucky to go to a show that I can drive to!

  99. I know it sounds corny, but this album is a dream come true. I am lucky to be working with the BEST producers & writers in the world!-AdamLambert

Ok trying to stay on topic….I love reading the tweets or twats from Adam expressing his enthusiasm on who he is working with and his genuine excitement on realizing the fruition of his dream coming true of recording an album. It makes me smile.

  100. And Slezak’s favorite is Allison’ ¦although both he and Jim C love Kris. Both guys also like Adam as well’ ¦

In his new MTV article, Jim is defending his love in Kris. His and Slezak’s fanboy over Kris and Lynsey’s fangirl over Adam are both amusing.

  101. I’m still holding out for Adam on XF seeing as that would nicely coincide with his album drop when the finals are on.

Robbie is confirmed for an appearance, and I think Kris will probably turn up on the show too if he’s comng to London.

  102. Actually, that was openly acknowledged by Adam way back when he first signed his recording deal at the end of the season, wasn’t it?

Where was this? I’ve never seen any confirmation from Adam beyond some fan report on a board.

  103. If Adam gets his album put out on iTunes as a library issue (like Pearl Jam and MUSE), we also some extras like a live video (maybe from the Tour?),…..

suebrody, did you not see the sign overhead that says “DO NOT TEASE THE ANIMALS…. and ADAM FANS!”??

    Or maybe that’s ADAMALS…..

  104. That would be awesome! Who’s up to meeting at GMA concert 11/24?

    I’m SOOOO there!

I went to the GMA Summer Concert Series for Adam, Kris, and David Cook – and it was so much fun!

  105. And Slezak’s favorite is Allison’ ¦although both he and Jim C love Kris. Both guys also like Adam as well’ ¦

It took both Slezak and Cantiello a while to come around. Slezak had no qualms of knocking Adam during the season, either openly or slyly. It wasn’t until Kris won and Adam was runner up that Slezak became nicer to Adam.

Jim took even longer. This was only last week from Jim:

@adamlambert It took me time 2 appreciate your genius, but now I know u will go down as one of the greats! C U @ the 2010 VMAs! Jim Cantiello

  106. The buzz that year (first year I followed Idol at all) was that Daughtry was the Chosen One, the one they wanted to win because he had the most potential. That last didn’t change because he finished fourth, any more than Adam’s second place finish has hurt him.

OK, I’m thrilled, but not as excited as I was initially. I thought Adam was unique in that Fuller was managing him. Still not a bad thing, however. I wonder why that person on IDF was so excited?

  107. There was confimation of both those things. And according to Aimee’s latest Tweets, Ferras is going down to Nashville to work on a song for Adam.

There was a tweet a while back from Ferras to Aimee telling her he would love to write a song with her.

I remember it because at the time I thought, 1. Who is Aimee and 2. Why would Ferras want to write a song with this girl who sounds like she’s 15 years old?

  108. rowenaaine,

That would be awesome! Who’s up to meeting at GMA concert 11/24?

Hopefully, it will only be a matter of days until SOME song leaks!!!

  109. Ok trying to stay on topic’ ¦.I love reading the tweets or twats from Adam expressing his enthusiasm on who he is working with and his genuine excitement on realizing the fruition of his dream coming true of recording an album. It makes me smile.

Me too – his triple tweets yesterday about the album just made me so happy! Very very excited about the album, in part because he is so excited about it!

  110. so I say use ’em all and give us a double CD!

That is not going to happen. 19R does formula pop albums. That formula does not include double albums.

They’ll use a couple of bonus tracks and pawn off the rest to the next “artist” who needs to substitute his or he own vocals from an already recorded song for a turnkey track.

The double albums come when there is a deluxe edition re-issue with never before heard bonus material.

  111. The buzz that year (first year I followed Idol at all) was that Daughtry was the Chosen One, the one they wanted to win because he had the most potential. That last didn’t change because he finished fourth, any more than Adam’s second place finish has hurt him.

Yes, I was a big Daughtry fan that year, and could tell that he was like the “Adam” of the season, sort of – Simon really really liked him, was rooting for him the most it seemed, and tptb seemed to really be behind him too.

  112. Okay, I’ve elbowed my way through the crowd to get to the Special Room. Haven’t had time to put my stuff down and grab a cup of coffee (and a lolly). Have to pretend actually work for awhile.

Save me a piece of Squirrely’s birthday cake!

Guardian article about Simon Fuller from last year:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2008/jun/22/celebrity.media entitled ‘The 20 Most Powerful Celebrity Makers.’ He’s listed as number one.

  116. Hi all. So excited for anything Adam. Now i have to get back to work.

  117. Sunn-thanks for the mp3 link for Starlight!
I’ve been sick for the past few days with the dreaded flu and this thread has made me laugh so hard this morning! I for one am glad there is a “special room” for us cray cray Adam fanatics. On the Aimee Mayo tweets, I think it is awesome that she is so excited about her work and she obviously loves what she does for a living. Good for her to recognize the special talents of a glittery alien from planet fierce!

  118. Actually, that was openly acknowledged by Adam way back when he first signed his recording deal at the end of the season, wasn’t it?

It was acknowledge way back when Idol started. Well, just as much as the rest of the top 12’s sexuality was acknowledged.

Someone proclaiming they are Gay is as stupid as someone proclaiming they are Straight.

  119. I am seriously going to England to see Adam perform The awesomeness of Britain combined with the awesomeness of Adam = double-awesomeness!!

I would go to England again to see him perform as well. We should have an US invasion :P

  120. Latest tweet from Aimee:

AimeeMayo@LoveLifeDC Thank you! All I have done is write songs for him the last 5 months. It is a dream come true he recorded one of them. : )

I told her to come over here for some fangirling! ;)

  121. Jim took even longer. This was only last week from Jim:

I thing that’s called backtracking CYA. Those two are probably worried about getting the door slammed shut on access to Lambert which would be a big problem for an Idol writer on the odd chance that he is succeessful. They are both trying to suck up.

  122. Umm… SparklesATL, that quote and follow-up quotes were in reference to Fuller being Adam’s manager, not to anyone’s sexuality…. ;-)

  123. Did you win a lottery? I’ll be lucky to go to a show that I can drive to!

Well – I’ll have to see how schedule (and money) allows… I love to travel, and love Europe, and so I often try to make any excuse I can to get over there whenever I can, even if it means skimping on other things.

I’d say an Adam tour would be a pretty good excuse…But we’ll see if I can make it work.

  124. That would be awesome! Who’s up to meeting at GMA concert 11/24?

I will definitely be going. I already have someone coming from out-of-town that asked for first dibs on my sofa. If anyone wants the floor, bring your sleeping blanket.

Not that much sleep will be had as you have to be there by 6:30 am. Without tickets, I’d say 4 a.m. It’s in the news studio in Times Sq, so there will be quite a small audience allowed inside.

  125. In addition to the Guardian article I posted a page or so back, here’s the wikipedia entry on Simon Fuller. He’s a busy boy. But I think any level of personal involvement of his with Adam is a very good thing.

I wonder how he has time for much else besides his continual flailing efforts to make America love the Beckhams, lol. Here’s hoping he has better luck getting the Brits to love Adam. (can’t imagine he won’t, but still….) Honestly, the Beckham obsession really makes me wonder whether he’s got a couple of screws loose here and there, despite his reputation as perceptive.

No screws loose where Beckhams are concerned. They’re seriously loaded, have all their fingers in many many pies and have hardly been out of the headlines since they first set eyes on each other 10 years ago. 19E have done OK by them.

  132. Anyone interested in GMA concert meet-up please email me at linda.ladden@sbcglobal.net

Love the Adamals!- don’t tease us, we bite! We also have claws!

BTW, What kind of cake are you bringing into our padded room.

I am so the laughing stock in work- when the president of my company saw my blue nailpolish the day of the Bridgeport concert, she took me aside & whispered – ‘You know he’s gay, right?’ I told her: ‘ sure, makes it more fun!’ I thought she was going to get me a straight jacket!!

  133. I thing that’s called backtracking CYA. Those two are probably worried about getting the door slammed shut on access to Lambert which would be a big problem for an Idol writer on the odd chance that he is succeessful. They are both trying to suck up.

  134. It took both Slezak and Cantiello a while to come around. Slezak had no qualms of knocking Adam during the season, either openly or slyly. It wasn’t until Kris won and Adam was runner up that Slezak became nicer to Adam.

With Slezak, (and ftr, he predicted a Kradison final 3 way back when there were 11 people left! Pretty on the money with that one). He seemed to have a love-hate relationship with Adam. He LOVED TOMT, MW, made fun of him for OTT performances like PTFM. He also loved FG, and most of Adam’s later performances, and by the time we were at top 4, I think he was pretty fully behind Adam (definitely had huge respect for his talent), and he was mainly all for an Adison or Kradam finale. When it was Kradam, he said he loved them both.

I seriously think he is more in Kris’s corner, now, though, because he seems to go for the underdogs, and I’m reminded of how bent out of shape he got about the Jive vs. RCA press releases for Kris and Adam.

  135. Now that the tour is over, Adam is really rolling on his album!! that’s just great! Looking forward to his first single

  137. No screws loose where Beckhams are concerned. They’re seriously loaded, have all their fingers in many many pies and have hardly been out of the headlines since they first set eyes on each other 10 years ago.

In other words, it’s all about the many dollars they’re paying SF. I guess I already knew that, come to think about it! …. I don’t think the money will buy them much American love, though, as they age, lol. Glad to know that he sees future dollar signs in Adam, whom he’s taking on spec, however.

  138. OK, for the first time I searched Simon Fuller. He manages quite a few people, not just singers. How the heck does he have time for that?

He probably has more than one manager under him to work closely with the artists but he will have the final words for what they would do for them.

If Simon Fuller is Adam’s manager. He better takes Adam to a right direction and fulfill what he said on the press release for Adam when Adam got signed by RCA.

  139. and he was mainly all for an Adison or Kradam finale. When it was Kradam, he said he loved them both.

Actually he told Kris he voted for him, and he has been acting all fangirly towards him (not anywhere as bad as Cantiello).

  140. Since there’s been no change of management announcement, there was no reason to assume that Adam wasn’t with 19M. I suspect Adam, Kris, Allison and Danny are managed by Fuller’s company until we get news of the contrary. Fuller managed Blake and Jordin their first years, too.

  141. Geez both Jim and slezack like much Adam but they have a very soft spot for Kris. Can’t Kris have a bit more love SOMETIMES? Adam’s is getting tons from the media world.

hwc, you’re so cynic but love you nevertheless :)

  142. I wonder how he has time for much else besides his continual flailing efforts to make America love the Beckhams, lol. Here’s hoping he has better luck getting the Brits to love Adam. (can’t imagine he won’t, but still’ ¦.) Honestly, the Beckham obsession really makes me wonder whether he’s got a couple of screws loose here and there, despite his reputation as perceptive.

Well, if the Beckhams (probably his #1 clients) want to make it big in the US, he’s not exactly gonna say no thanks, is he? I suspect the Beckhams’ go-big in the U.S. strategy is more about what the Beckhams want than it is about what Fuller wants.

  143. Hey, I have to give props to Posh Spice. She sat there with her husband and took it for 12 minutes of a live TV interview with Ali G. Craziest celebrity interview ever:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P842Tmi6lrc

His second question to Beckham: “Now, had you already seen a picture of Posh and knocked one out?”

It went straight to the gutter from there.

“Do you want your boy to grow up to be a footballer like his dad? Or a singer like…Mariah Carey?”

    Not suitable for work.

  144. In other words, it’s all about the many dollars they’re paying SF. I guess I already knew that, come to think about it! ‘ ¦. I don’t think the money will buy them much American love, though, as they age, lol. Glad to know that he sees future dollar signs in Adam, whom he’s taking on spec, however.

Indeed. Money probably won’t buy them US love, but they got their kids set up for life.

    SF loves him some £ £ £ and $$$ :)

Since there’s been no change of management announcement, so there was no reason to assumer that Adam wasn’t with 19M. I suspect Adam, Kris, Allison and Danny are managed by Fuller’s company. Fuller managed Blake and Jordin their first years, too.

The point/issue people are discussing is not whether 19 is managing them, but whether Simon Fuller is managing any of them personally, like he manages Daughtry, Carrie and David Cook. There is information that he is managing Adam personally, not sure how reliable that information is, but that’s what’s being discussed. I agree, until we hear differently, they are all being managed by 19.

  146. Actually he told Kris he voted for him, and he has been acting all fangirly with Kris (not anywhere as bad as Cantiello).

Yeah, Slezak got kinda weird right around/after the finale. I remember, as an Adam fan, that I LOVED Idolatry, and quite enjoyed his commentary, especially later in the season, wrt Adam – he gave him mad props about being talented, and even did the whole “if he doesn’t win I’m dying my hair Iraheta-pink” – he didn’t seem to be all in Kris’s corner (though he did enjoy Kris a lot) until after the finale. Or maybe that was just me. Oh, well. It’s done.

I do love me some Idolatry though :-)

  147. Kids, I am seriously interested in going to NYC for GMA concert, but I live in Boston and don’t want to go alone (b/c I suck at things like that). If any Bostonians (or nearby ones) also plan to go (squirrely?!), please email me at @sssbbb@comcast.net I never do this sort of thing–I didn’t even go to Portland, ME–but this is ADAM and it would be an ADAM LUVFEST, so it’s different. I had seen the Tour in Boston and liked it, but since I was going for Kradam and Matt, and saw them, I thought, Okay, that was cool, but it was also $85, so that’s enough. But for a free ADAM ONLY concert w/ ADAM FANS, well, I can be persuaded… ;)

Okay, so anyway, is there ANY word on leakage on either single? OR on either single’s drop? There isn’t, is there?

ETA: I never saw Cantiello as being an Adam fan at all (but maybe I’m wrong). Slezak always said he *liked* Adam but his mom *loved* Adam and cried (like many of us did…no offense, Kris or fans) when he lost (and he did lose…that’s just a fact, none of this ‘we both won’ stuff). I am a big Slezak fan…not so much of Cantiello, b/c I am not sure if he’s a really up-front guy, as noted.

  148. Since there’s been no change of management announcement, so there was no reason to assumer that Adam wasn’t with 19M. I suspect Adam, Kris, Allison and Danny are managed by Fuller’s company. Fuller managed Blake and Jordin their first years, too.

Actually no, Fuller did not personally manage Blake. Blake was with 19M but he had a different manager. I’m not sure about Jordin, though. But I do know that the other people SF ~personally~ manages currently are David Cook, Chris Daughtry, and Carrie Underwood.

  149. If any Bostonians (or nearby ones) also plan to go (squirrely?!),

I would love too, but it’s on a Tuesday right? Could drive up Monday night….hmmmmm

  151. It took both Slezak and Cantiello a while to come around. Slezak had no qualms of knocking Adam during the season, either openly or slyly. It wasn’t until Kris won and Adam was runner up that Slezak became nicer to Adam.

I don’t know when Slezak became nicer to Adam. He definitely didn’t like ROF, but he couldn’t say bad thing about Adam’s vocal ability because he knows there’s nothing to critic about it. And he understand why Adam has to stick his tongue when he hit high notes, because Adam B. Vary (another MTV reporter) talked to few of Vocal coaches and told him that’s a vocal technique that Adam did. He did not go ga ga over Adam but after top 10 if I’m not mistaken Slezak never and couldn’t say bad thing about Adam anymore. He even admitted to Kristen that he’s officially joining the Glambert bandwagon. Slezak always loves Allison. As far as I remembered he never crazy about Kris vocal but he complimented what Kris did to the songs. I remembered when he sat with Kristen, he said Kris might not have crazy voice like Allison or Adam, but he always had this ‘thing’ about Kris (he pointed his heart when he said this thing) and he was all smiling. And Kristen said I know you do and smiled.

  152. Okay, so anyway, is there ANY word on leakage on either single? OR on either single’s drop? There isn’t, is there?

FMQB mentions that an Adam RCA single will be released to radio Oct. 12. No further specification, though, and these things have a habit of sliding around, I’ve noticed.

  153. FMQB mentions that an Adam RCA single will be released to radio Oct. 12. No further specification, though, and these things have a habit of sliding around, I’ve noticed.

Didn’t MJ confirm several days ago that the 12th was wrong, but that she did not yet know the correct date? I’m hoping it’s only wrong because the real date is sooner – there will be mass hysteria and anarchy with Adam fans running amok in the streets and setting overturned cars on fire if it gets pushed back any further than the 12th!

  154. he didn’t seem to be all in Kris’s corner (though he did enjoy Kris a lot) until after the finale. Or maybe that was just me. Oh, well. It’s done.

No it’s not just you. I didn’t get that slezak was that much of a kris fan until recently. it was always Allison this and that, save the rocker chic etc. so I was suprised when jim always mentioned slezak as competing with him for kris. hope Allison has not been overthrown. lol

  155. Didn’t MJ confirm several days ago that the 12th was wrong, but that she did not yet know the correct date? Yeah, I think she did. Still, I think that this is the only generally credible publication that anyone has run across that lists a date — and the 12th is currently the date it lists. So the insider information that mj or others have gotten hasn’t yet percolated into print in the places you usually go to find the official word …. an example of the common dates-slipping-around thing, I suppose.

Didn’t MJ confirm several days ago that the 12th was wrong, but that she did not yet know the correct date?

Yes!!! she could not divulge how she knew but asked us to trust her on it. And I do!

  157. Is it always a tradition that Idols that signed by RCA releases their songs thru FMQB? And not Z100? I think Duran & friends in Z100 loves Adam as per their interview when Adam’s in NY back in May.

  158. FMQB mentions that an Adam RCA single will be released to radio Oct. 12. No further specification, though, and these things have a habit of sliding around, I’ve noticed.

Yes!!! she could not divulge how she knew but asked us to trust her on it. And I do!

I’m still thinking that Adam’s single will be released on first week of October (5 – 10 of October)

  159. Is it always a tradition that Idols that signed by RCA releases their songs thru FMQB? And not Z100?

Not quite sure what you mean. FMQB (Friday Morning Quarterback) is a radio-industry magazine, and Z100 is a radio station, right?

  160. I’m still thinking that Adam’s single will be released on first week of October (5 ‘“ 10 of October)

I don’t know. I kind of think that, since we’ve heard zero up to now, and October 1 is actually next week, the release date is more likely to slip till after the 12th rather than before the 12th. Don’t know why I think that, really. Just a feeling. I guess based on the fact that the Oct. 12 date still shows up in the only semi-official online source that seems to have reported a date at all. If they were going to release it earlier than that to radio, I’d think they might want the radio stations to be warned in advance so they could plan to make a fuss or, like, play the song!

    Who knows, though.

  161. FYI for people coming from out-of-town for GMA:

As I said, it is in the Times Sq studio and the number of people allowed inside will be very small.

If you get tickets, you have to be there by 6:30 am. No tickets? Plan on lining up at 4am for a chance to be one of the standby’s. When Adam appeared on Regis & Kelly, they were full and NOT ONE standby was taken. People had lined up from 4am and were turned away. Adam is even more popular now.

If you are willing to wait just to watch Adam through the glass, you will have to be in line early if you plan on being close enough to see anything. I watched a video of “Fame” from GMA and the people outside got to see the performers’ backs. Edit: There should be a jumbotron outside that broadcasts the show.

Our weather is crappy here in Nov. It’s usually cold, windy, and likely rainy. Be prepared to wait hours in this type of weather.

The GMA performance is 2 days before Thanksgiving. If you need to make travel plans, do them now.

OK then, just a little reality check.

Edit: tickets are free if you can get one.

  162. Is there room in the padded playpen for one more Adam fan? Finally heard the Kris single with the Kradam vid- the visuals definitely help. And sweet of Adam to pimp Kris’s single on Twitter.
Thank Ra for my iPhone- now I can actually do work on my work computer while I check in here for any possible news tidbits about Adam or his single!

  163. Now I’m confused: Do you have to pay for tickets, or is that just to reserve tickets? As much as I love Adam, I’m not going all the way to NYC to watch his back. ;)

Squirrely, I can’t drive b/c 1) no car and 2) back issues) but I can *sit* in a car. :)

I’ll be totally bummed out if Adam’s single comes out *after* the 12th. OTOH, when did we know that Kris’s single was being released this past Monday? And what about TFM? Leakage would do for now…

If Simon Fuller manages Adam (and others, of course), how does that differ from co-managing or someone else managing? Is that the promotional side rather than the release-of-singles-and-album side?

  164. I edited my post for the GMA ticket price and the jumbotron for viewing.

  165. Slezak was a Kris fan from top 13 night… he was a big proponent of Kris “subtle, pure voice”. in addition, he seemed to have a bit of man crush on him (the pore less skin still cracks me up, and he wore a shirt in kris’ honor during his interview). if you look at his recaps (not just the idolatry), Kris was always one of his top performers/best of the night. his order of preference was quite obvious…The Rocker, Kris and Adam in that order. Jim seemed to love Kris and Allison, like Adam and loved to poke fun at Danny (still!). LOL, how did this convo start …again?

  166. [laugh] Is this the new place for the Adam ‘tards to hang out today so we don’t clutter up the headlines thread again?

Agree. And no one will say that Adam ‘tards hijack a thread that’s not concerning Adam. ;) ..

  167. Let’s hope Adam’s single has either been moved up a week from the October 12 date, or pushed back a week. A brand new Michael Jackson song is being released on October 12.

  168. FYI for people coming from out-of-town for GMA:

Aww, thanks for the info, sidewalkstory. I was kinda afraid of that. So, is the best bet to try and get show tickets from the abc website, I’m guessing?

  169. Still trying to find out if Mad World is going to be played in future epis of Flash Forward. There are numerous fansites for FF already, as well as blog sites. No one knows, but a few people who have read the Adam/Mad World inquiries checked out Adam’s full version. They commented that they love it, and are checking out other youtube vids of Adam. New Adam fans crop up every day starting from the strangest places.

  170. So, is the best bet to try and get show tickets from the abc website, I’m guessing?

Yes, that is where I got the group sales tel #. Haven’t figured out how to get singles yet.

I edited my post for the GMA ticket price and the jumbotron for viewing.

Do you know how to get the tix? I’m guessing they become available some day on the website, and you’ve gotta be fast and lucky to get them in time?

  172. Very much liked Bill Lamb’s (about.com) review of Kris’s song – well written. Important that he brought out the fact that the Idols can all actually sing. Only caveat last paragraph – insinuating that there’s some sort of challenge for Adam in Kris’s success. (As the occasionally perceptive Paula would say – apples and oranges.)

  173. PLEASE TAKE THE FOLLOWING WITH A HUGE GRAIN OF SALT:

So I belong to IMDB and I just thought I would put the question out there if anyone knew anything about the Soundtrack for 2012. Still trying to find out if this poster is reliable but this is one answer I got:

yes, the movie is gonna have a soundtrack, with mainly Harald Klosers music.
The song by Adam Lambert will be on his debut album and on the 2012 soundtrack.”Time for Miracles” will probably be released 2 – 3 weeks before the movie release

  174. yes, the movie is gonna have a soundtrack, with mainly Harald Klosers music.
The song by Adam Lambert will be on his debut album and on the 2012 soundtrack.’ Time for Miracles’ will probably be released 2 ‘“ 3 weeks before the movie release

Adam already said the TfM would not be on his album.

  175. The song by Adam Lambert will be on his debut album and on the 2012 soundtrack.’ Time for Miracles’ will probably be released 2 ‘“ 3 weeks before the movie release

Well, we know that Adam has said that TFM won’t be on his debut album, so unless plans have changed since last week, they might be wrong on that part.

  176. I am guessing that Slezak and Centiello are trying to kiss everybody’s butt since AI is their bread and butter and they want hits. You better believe they are going to gush equally as much for Adam and Allison when their singles pop. It’s just that Kris has the spotlight at the moment. You better believe they are going to be fangirlly. Otherwise Slezak will hear it from his mom. Cientello is a media/whore – he wants the attention. I don’t think they want Adam fans after them either. Who else has tweeted as much as they have. If Adam hits better than Kris, and I say if, Slezak and Centiello will be all over Adam leaving Kris in the dust.

  177. sidewalkstory

I am in CT, planning on taking the train there. How does one get GMA tickets??-I was hoping it was in Bryant park, it is not?

  178. Sunn, Thanks for the MP3

As a gift to my fellow Adam cray crays (word of the day it seems), I have uploaded, what I consider, the best Starlight audio from the tour. It’s from the Madison concert.

    Here’s the mp3 download link:

    http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?jznbomzwi3m

    Enjoy.

I Like when Adamtards are sharing in the padded room… :-)

  179. Hi All!
I’m a horrible, incorrigible, hidden in the darkest, dankest recesses lurker, and generally just ride the coattails of my wonderful neighbor, austinmidwife, around here, but all this talk of the Beckhams made me want to poke my little head out from its crack for a second.
That’s because in addition to loving Adam, I’ve also, for a long time, loved David Beckham, and it’s for similar reasons: they share two qualities–excellence at what they do, and open-mindedness.
I was initially a Becks fan because I’m a huge England football fan and he’s just plain an incredible footballer. But as I got to know more about him, I totally fell for him. True, he may not be the absolute brightest bulb in the chandelier, but in his own way he’s really personally impressive. He grew up in working-class London, came up in the macho-dickhead, heavily chauvanistic and certainly homophobic world of football, surrounded by macho men, he has every reason not to be particularly enlightened, and yet he happily wears skirts and make-up, says he’s proud to be a gay icon, and smilingly shrugs off all the homophobic quips directed his way. He’s also clearly a totally equal partner in his marriage, sharing child-rearing duties and promoting his wife’s career (“career”), and frankly, there are not that many men of whom that could be said even outside of the macho world of men’s professional sports. SO: major props to Becks, and to Posh, for that matter, for being so incredibly game, not to mention quick on her feet, in that Ali G. interview. What I love about BOTH Becks and Adam is because they are part of a brave new world in which, as Adam likes to say, sexuality is universal, and they just don’t give a crap about all the bullsh*t, and just go out there and have fun!
Okay, enough rambling. On another note, I just realized that while I live in Austin (obviously, next to my dear midwife), I’m actually gonna be in NYC!!! on Nov. 24th!!! So excited! Now I just have to see if I can drag my long-suffering partner, who really like Adam too, but, honestly, he thinks I’m kinda nuts, to Times Square at some ungodly hour!
Thanks for all your wonderfullnesses over the last few months. I’ve really loved them.
(Ducks head down, creeps back down under her rock)

    Oh.Sh!t.

They BETTER get Adam’s single out BEFORE this. Give a chance to gain some traction before everyone goes nuts for the Michael Jackson song.

  181. Adam has already said Time for Miracles will not be on his album.

I know. I just told the poster that and asking him how he knows this. Like i said, grain of salt, but if any of you are familiar with IMDB, they are usually pretty knowledgable about movies.

  182. Actually Adam told Lindsay Parker that it a “bonus track” was a possibility.

  183. They BETTER get Adam’s single out BEFORE this. Give a chance to gain some traction before everyone goes nuts for the Michael Jackson song.

Maybe that’s what made them change the date. … if they changed the date to earlier. … or changed the date at all … or if October 12 was ever the planned date … etc.

When I think how the Kris song just kind of popped out of nowhere into a little leak and then a Z100 release (not that they’ve played it since, apparently …)… and FMQB, at least, *still* lists no official radio release date for Kris, I guess I don’t know what to expect with Adam’s. (That’s Jive, though, of course, so maybe RCA does things differently…)

  184. They BETTER get Adam’s single out BEFORE this. Give a chance to gain some traction before everyone goes nuts for the Michael Jackson song.

I know! The news of MJ’s single gave me a mini heart attack.

  185. MJ’s song – Damn! – another thing to worry about. This soap opera never ends.

  186. If you literally take the words from elephant1212, she said there would be a media blitz in 2 weeks. That puts it right around October 5th. Maybe they saw the handwriting on the wall and didn’t want to compete with MJ’s new song. Our MJ has already said 10/12 is not the date. So I’m looking at October 5th being the date. They already have the single out there, people have listened to it, so now it’s okay folks get ready for the blitz. I’m sure it’s under control.

  187. Ann Powers fall music preview. Adam is # 11. Beware those who hate the bedazzled vest of cuteness (ugliness), it’s the pic they used.

I took a chance and looked. As far as I’m concerned, the BAoC (Bedazzled Adam of Cuteness) trumps the vest any day.

  188. SUNN Thank you, thank you, thank you, for the mp3 of the awesome Starlight!!! (I’d love to hear your opinion of the best WLL and get that mp3, too.) I’ve come out of lurking just to say thanks. I had to stop posting because my husband was getting irritated at my little hobby taking so much time. But I still come on here and read all of you and share in the great Adam (and other Idols) news. So please keep on posting for those of us that had to get back to the real world. I can’t wait for the album!

Ann Powers fall music preview. Adam is # 11.

    and from the preview:

I’m glad I’m not Adam Lambert — so many expectations hang on the glitter-kissed shoulders of last season’s “American Idol” breakout star. He’s promising a cornucopia of styles from rock to dance to pop on this debut album, but one thing’s for sure: with collaborators such as Max Martin, Ryan Tedder and Linda Perry, it should sound like gold. Also coming in November: debuts from Lambert’s “Idol” pals Kris Allen and Allison Iraheta.

    RCA, Nov. 24

Aww, glitter-kissed shoulders. and love that she says “it should sound like gold.”

  191. He did not go ga ga over Adam but after top 10 if I’m not mistaken Slezak never and couldn’t say bad thing about Adam anymore.

Slezak made plenty of implications though. I remember commenting on his Idolatry vids plenty of times.

And I agree with those that think Slezak and Cantiello are backpedaling. They weren’t Adam’s worst critics, but if Adam didn’t make it as far as he did, the two would have just shrugged him off.

  192. I know! The news of MJ’s single gave me a mini heart attack..

Well it goes without saying that MJ’s song will shoot to number 1 no matter how good/bad it maybe. So I guess I am hoping Adam’s single, which will be released close to MJ released date (whether before or after really does not matter), will have a good start (top 10) and then steadily climb to the top of the charts (Say take 3 or 4 weeks) just as MJ’s single runs its coarse at #1 and begins it’s slow descend down the music charts.

I could live with this scenario :-)

  193. Also from the preview:

    Adam Lambert, self-titled

Did we know this or is she just assuming?

  194. Ann Powers fall music preview. Adam is # 11. Beware those who hate the bedazzled vest of cuteness (ugliness), it’s the pic they used.

Under the pic, it says ‘ Adam Lambert, self-titled‘. Is the album title gonna be ‘Adam Lambert’. I don’t think we know the title yet.

  195. midwifespal: Welcome!

Bonus track sounds good, and again there would be a bonus track and/or a video if Adam gets the iTunes library package. I have a feeling they will issue it that way.

I always had a feeling that the album would be titled ADAM LAMBERT. That makes the most sense to me.

  196. Midwifespal, glad you delurked. Interesting point about Beckham and his ability to thumb his nose at established mores, particularly in football. When I was over in Wales in June, I read about another footballer Christiano….last name escapes me. He is one of the top British players, that wears short shorts that exposes his rear, dons lots of makeup – is drop dead gorgeous, does what he chooses, parties hardy, loves his mom and doesn’t give a flip what other footballers think. He would take them on anytime. Gotta respect that.

  197. You do like to spark fire hwc and you are gifted at that.

Thank-you. Thank-you, very much. We’ll be here all week.

  198. Okay, morning duties handled, ready to multitask (which means keeping one foot in the Special Room at all times).

They BETTER get Adam’s single out BEFORE this. Give a chance to gain some traction before everyone goes nuts for the Michael Jackson song.

I know! The news of MJ’s single gave me a mini heart attack.

Please oh please let them move it up.

Speaking of being ‘tarded. Here’s my dilemma: A cruise line is launching a brand-new ship and I have been invited on a media sneak preview. Because it’s sailing in Florida and I’m in SoCal, I thought, “I can’t go.” It’s only a two-dayer, but everything is paid for including cocktails (whoo hoo!). I didn’t realize they were going to fly me to Fla. until yesterday.

My two choices: Nov. 20-22 or Nov. 22-24. Well, my first thought is, “I can’t go the 24th, that’s when Adam’s CD drops!” The last time I flew was the exact DAY RS came out. That was torture.

I am also wary about going the 20th because I’m on the waiting list for tickets to the “Tonight Show” for that week figuring Adam will be doing his L.A. media rounds then, as he’ll be in N.Y. the following week. Also trying to work out Thanksgiving travel, etc.

How geeked out of me to rearrange my entire life around these events, but oh wells, it’s true. I’m leaning towards the 20th so I won’t get caught in holiday travel.

  199. So I guess I am hoping Adam’s single, which will be released close to MJ released date (whether before or after really does not matter), will have a good start (top 10) and then steadily climb to the top of the charts (Say take 3 or 4 weeks) just as MJ single runs its coarse at #1 and begins it’s slow descend down the music charts.

Sounds good to me. Even sounds as if it could happen!

  200. @smokeyvera: you’re probably talking about Ronaldo – he is Portuguese but has played or is still playing (don’t remember) for Manchester United. He was dating Paris Hilton for a moment IIRC.

  201. And I agree with those that think Slezak and Cantiello are backpedaling. They weren’t Adam’s worst critics, but if Adam didn’t make it as far as he did, the two would have just shrugged him off.

Yup. Thats how I always saw it.

  202. I totally agree. I like the vest and like someone said in the thread the other day (about No Boundaries), Adam took that vest and made it his bitch.

Yeah, BVoC/A FTW!! (I knew it’d come back to me!)

    Adam Lambert, self-titled

Yeah, kinda doubting that is accurate – we haven’t heard anything official, and every other site has it as “TBD”.

Completely forgot about the MJ song – crap. Oh, well. There will always be something getting in the way.

  203. I think Ann is just going by what the usual Idol debuts are called. It may be self-titled, but didn’t sound like that was how Adam was leaning. (Yes, I know it won’t be his decision, but I suppose he has a little input.)

  204. Completely forgot about the MJ song ‘“ crap. Oh, well. There will always be something getting in the way.

MJ is going to get in everyone’s way. lol That song and new album will do VERY well. Especially outside of the US of A. Adam can still make a nice showing though. Its just going to be a lot harder for him to be #1 for awhile, although Susan Boyle and Little Wayne is going to be stiff competition for Adam too.

  205. Completely forgot about the MJ song ‘“ crap. Oh, well. There will always be something getting in the way.

So True….I decided if Adam reaches number 2 with his song and the only song doing better is MJ’s then for me (for You) he topped the charts. Just saying….

  206. “Oh.Sh!t.

They BETTER get Adam’s single out BEFORE this. Give a chance to gain some traction before everyone goes nuts for the Michael Jackson song.”

    – I think Adam’s song will be right behind MJackson’s in sales in the initial days (if they’re released within the same week). And only cuz of MJ’s death, sentimental factor. MJ will probably not get any radioplay past its premiere. This is my opinion. I’m not worried about overhwhelming media coverage either and that it may diminish Adam.

I think Adam will fans will speak up, request what they wanna hear. And shows want ratings, so they’ll promote him. And just about everyone will say in the long run that MJ music can never be what it was in the 80s or early 90s. The AEG movie thing will probably be big just cuz people are curious about what he looked like in his final weeks & strength and skill.

  207. They BETTER get Adam’s single out BEFORE this. Give a chance to gain some traction before everyone goes nuts for the Michael Jackson song.

Welcome to the real world of Idols trying to move units.

Here’s how I’m gonna do the deal. I’m thinking the album will almost certainly be too pop for me, but I’ll probably like 2 or 3 songs well enough to put them in my iTunes 5-star rotation. If it’s more than that, then it’ll be a sweet bonus.

Sales? I’m thinking Adam should be able to sell 200,000 albums over the first year. If he does that, I’ll be happy. If he sells a few more, I’ll be excited for the kid.

It’s all an expectations game. There’s no percentage in setting the goalposts at some impossibly pie-in-the-sky place. I mean, after all, how big can a single be competing with Michael Jackson and a smash hit from the American Idol winner? There’s not much oxygen left in that room.

  208. is my opinion. I’m not worried about overhwhelming media coverage either and that it may diminish Adam.

Wait ’til his father brings him back from the grave and books him on Leno. I fully expect there to be zero shame from the Jackson estate and family milking this in every conceivable way.

  209. Haven’t read the whole thread, so sorry if this is repeating any others’ comments. Susan Boyle’s album comes out the same day. And the pre-order sales were impressive and will have Cowell and Sony backing so I’m expecting the promos will be huge. I certainly won’t be buying.

I’ll probably purchase about 7 of Adam’s just to make my small dent. ;)

  210. I don’t think Adam’s album will be self-titled. In one of his interviews, he said that the title depended on the tracks they chose. However, DAUGHTRY and David Cook as titles seemed to work out. ;) Why wouldn’t ppl want it to be self-titled?

Ann Powers was always a big Adam fan (unlike Cantiello), so I’m not surprised at her listing, just happy. And as far as Slezak goes, I liked his interview with Adam quite a bit. Of course he fantarded over Allison (it almost got ridiculous, and he still sneaks her in whenever he can, like in a pre-Idolatry video for S9); I think he did prefer Kris to Adam, but also thought Adam would win.

  211. I have my favorites and I buy their CD when they release. It doesn’t matter if 10 release on the same day or 1. I buy them.

Are my buying habits normal or am I outside the norm?

HWC, maybe you can shed some light (or evil darkness) on CD buying habits.

  212. I love Michael, but why are they pushing so much so soon? Let the man rest a bit and release this stuff next year.

  213. We have to assume the 19/Simon Fuller is well aware of the Michael Jackson single dropping & are planning release around that.

Boy, are we a nervous bunch! Our fingernails are going to be bitten down to the quick waiting for TFM & his new single to drop! (Yeah, include me in that fingernail biting)

  214. lucy: FMQB mentions that an Adam RCA single will be released to radio Oct. 12. No further specification, though, and these things have a habit of sliding around, I’ve noticed.

    http://www.fmqb.com/Article.asp?id=16691

FMQB never listed a release date, that is the Mainstream Radio Add date. The Radio Add date is often it is after the release date.

For example, Alicia Keys’ first single from her as yet untitled album, ‘Doesn’t Mean Anything’ :

9/15/09 – available online for listening
    9/21/09 – released
9/30/09 – goes for Urban radio adds

  215. HWC, maybe you can shed some light (or evil darkness) on CD buying habits.

Do they still sell those things?

  216. Do they still sell those things?

Heh. At least I didn’t say album. I mean DOWNLOADS.

  217. “Sales? I’m thinking Adam should be able to sell 200,000 albums over the first year. If he does that, I’ll be happy. If he sells a few more, I’ll be excited for the kid.”

I’ve heard of lowered expectations but those are kinda ridiculous. Even Blake Lewis sold around 350K or so his first year and he was a dismal flop. Unless you mean Adam will sell that many his first week.

  218. I have my favorites and I buy their CD when they release. It doesn’t matter if 10 release on the same day or 1. I buy them.

Are my buying habits normal or am I outside the norm?

I’m the same. I bought 3 on Monday.

    hwc, you are KILLING me!!

  220. Give Michael’s single to Chris Brown and have him sing it. That should help Adam’s sales……….. [runs and hides]

Also, nervous somewhat about the Tedder collabo. Not a huge fan of his work with Leona, Jordin or Beyonce. And, wait – OneRepublic broke up?? Where have I been….was it cuz Ryan can’t sing live?? Ouch.

  221. Happy Birthday Squirrely Hope its a wonderful day that begins a very blessed year for you!

  222. I’m assuming that “first year” was a typo and he means “first WEEK”.

  223. Our fingernails are going to be bitten down to the quick waiting for TFM & his new single to drop! (Yeah, include me in that fingernail biting)

    Fingernails?…..you still have some? ;-)

  224. Otherwise, hwc, I like your candor (bringing it back down to earth ;-)) and I too would be pretty happy with what you indicated.

I’m not easily getting over the fact that Adam has to face down SuBo though – I don’t even try to hide my dislike of her and her cover-filled, Simon-backed debut.

  225. FMQB never listed a release date, that is the Mainstream Radio Add date. The Radio Add date is often it is after the release date.

Yep. I was thinking that people were talking about the airplay date. … Probably because that’s the date that mostly interests me! …. Never mind — I’m obsessed with airplay… Comes with the territory of being an Elliott fan all these years. I’m not interested in when I can hear the song — I know I’ll hear it a million times. I’m interested in when radio is set to be playing it, so *other* people can hear it and then rush out to buy it, lol! … That will be less of a problem with Adam than it is with Elliott, though, I trust.

  231. Q3 FMQB never listed a release date, that is the Mainstream Radio Add date. The Radio Add date is often after the release date.

For example, Alicia Keys’ first single from her as yet untitled album, ‘Doesn’t Mean Anything’ :

9/15/09 ‘“ available online for listening
    9/21/09 ‘“ released
9/30/09 ‘“ goes for Urban radio adds

Thank God for you Q3…of course that makes sense now. So by that estimation Adam’s Single should be available for online listening Next Week…..YAAHOOOOOOOO

  234. With regards to Adam’s music, I will honestly say that it’s immaterial what date it is released because I intend to support him 100% regardless of who else has their music released….a definite die-hard fan all the way. I am just so thankful for all the joy he has brought to many of our lives… this will be my personal way of saying “Thank you, Adam”. However, I would be thoroughly ecstatic if his was released earlier than anticipated. Grateful for all the information provided on these sites to keep me up to date as I am outside the USA.

  238. Ok, ok…I’m back.

And, based on your urgings, after 4 months of complete avoidance, I have FINALLY listened to Adam’s studio version of “No Boundaries”

Verdict: 6.5/10 (Sorry, best I could do)

Honestly, the only thing that got my score that high was the first 50 seconds. The rest was – as someone earlier put it – 80’s power ballad, but not that great an 80’s power ballad.

I know hindsight is 20/20, but it just sounds so…unprepared. Like he *could* have put some decent phrasing in there and added some emotional layers, but instead ran out of time so just “sang the crap out of it” instead. Again, hindsight lets me say that (!!!) since we all know that was indeed the case. :-)

Weirdly enough, IMO, it seems like Adam could have made it a better song. Honestly, the lyrics aren’t THAT much cheesier than a lot of stuff out there. It just needed some “emotional grit” to push it past the intial words and into a realm where it seemed to mean something personal. (Think Kelly Clarkson singing the LIVE version of “A Moment Like This” when she was absolutely squeaking with pure happiness during the performance…and the cheesy words just completely disappeared to transform into a personal Kelly anthem).

Ergo, my “eh” reaction. I honestly think this COULD have been an 8/10 song – Kara et al lyrics or not. However, it just isn’t that good.

However, thanks to all who convinced me to actually listen to it. It wasn’t the complete sludgefest I thought. [HUGS] :-)

  239. Hi, adamaloha. *waving*

I”m going away for a while. Lunch and all that (like, I don’t know, work). Will check in later. Have fun. Make sure to note if there are any LEAKAGE and/or AIRPLAY dates that become available throughout the afternoon. :)

Oh, and am still confused about the GMA situation…I would like to go but it sounds complicated…

    Ciao for now!

  240. Even Blake Lewis sold around 350K or so his first year and he was a dismal flop.

Yeah, but that was back before the recession and when there were still stores that sold CDs. The music industry is WAY DOWN compared to the glory days of Blake Lewis and what’s her name, the football player’s kid.

  241. I am very confused about the GMA concert as well. Please contact me at the email address I left earlier if anyone has additional info…..

  242. An interesting thought….between DonorsChoose $213,673 and Pennyroyal Silver’s Pendant donations of $32,150 to MusiCares charity –

Very impressive…. I hope that the media brings attention to this achievement. This is amazing for both Adams, his fans and the children and teachers that this money will help. This gets out to the right media outlets and they acknowledge it, it would most likely bring new interest to Adam from people who may otherwise not have know about him. I know Adam did this to help the children and arts but I think he should get nationwide attention in regards to this news.

  249. Robbie Williams said on MTV that his new album will be electronica, ballads, 70’s rock/glam, a real mixed bag….

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reality_Killed_the_Video_Star

Williams spoke about what he expects from the album: “I want people to feel elated, I want them to dance, I want them to forget about who they are and where they are for 50 minutes ‘“ and, within those 50 minutes of forgetting who they are, I also hope people relate to the songs. This is a record that I’m very proud of ‘“ I think it’s fucking brilliant.

    Sound familiar? :)

November is too exciting for words.

  250. Michael Jackson? Who cares? It’s not like he’s up against the new Bob Dylan.

Side note: I was in eastern Europe this summer and was standing on the balcony where MJ stood and yelled out “Hello Budapest!” to the crowd below, oops it was not Budapest but Bucharest! The very young tour guide who told us this story was wearing a Bob Dylan tee shirt :)

Anyway, I may buy MJ’s single and I won’t feel disloyal to Adam at all because I’ll most definitely buy Adam’s entire CD, forthcoming music videos, etc. I’m glad MJ’s estate is doing well so the bills can get paid insuring a financial legacy for his beautiful children. I’m quite sure Adam would agree!

  251. rowenaaine: Maybe he should just call it
    ADAM

I think that is more likely than Adam Lambert. But still think the title will be the name of a song from the album.

‘Sales? I’m thinking Adam should be able to sell 200,000 albums over the first year. If he does that, I’ll be happy. If he sells a few more, I’ll be excited for the kid.’

jpfan: I’ve heard of lowered expectations but those are kinda ridiculous. Even Blake Lewis sold around 350K or so his first year and he was a dismal flop. Unless you mean Adam will sell that many his first week.

If Adam sells 200K albums total, he’ll be the biggest flop in Idol runner up history ever. May Justin sold less, I’m no Idol historian.

There are few guarentees in life (or the music business), I think Adam will sell more than 200K album units. One indication is that Adam sold about 80,000 copies of his iTunes Season 8 Performances album. But to be the worst #2 ever, he would have to be lower than Justin Fuarini’s Jazz album. Just can’t see that happening.

With album sales plummeting so fast, I do not know if the measure of an artist success should be in single and album sales, I think it should actually be in total revenue — since concert receipts are where most of the money is now. And merchandise sales are increasing in importance rapidly.

That said, Idol #2’s don’t have a great sales track record:

    Justin Guarini: US sales 143,000
    Diana DeGarmo: US sales 168,000
    Blake Lewis: US sales 300,000
    Katharine McPhee: US sales 374,000
    Bo Bice: US sales 672,000
    David Archuleta: US sales 745,000
Clay Aiken: US sales 2.8 million

Taylor Hicks has the lowest selling winner’s album at US sales 704,000 — all other exceeded 1 million.
Clay is the only #2 to sell more than 1 million units and he actually outsold that year’s winner. And Chris Daughtry is the only other non-winner to sell more than 1 million units of his debut album.

  252. Ok, ok’ ¦I’m back.

And, based on your urgings, after 4 months of complete avoidance, I have FINALLY listened to Adam’s studio version of ‘No Boundaries’

LOL! To be fair, I had to listen to studio NoBo a good few times before it really caught on for me. I maintain Adam did a good job on it, song itself is crap and WAAAYYY to cliched and cheesy for someone like him to be singing (all those hurricanes, and mountains to climb).

To all wondering about the GMA concert. You have to request tickets in the studio from their website. Here is the link:

    http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/story?id=144752

I put in a request for Nov 24 (first pick) or Nov 17 (alternate). I’m doubtful I’ll get either. It’s probably a combination of being early and being lucky to get the tix. Worth a shot!

They do say, for groups of 20 or more you can call a special number. Anyone interested? Get a group together? Not sure if it will work, but who knows…

Me too……Kradam will always exist in one form or another for me. I love their friendship and the way they promote tolerance and understanding of others.

I’m usually a cynic, but even I believe that Adam will sell well over 200K In this day and age I don’t think he’ll come close to Clay’s 613K for the first week but I do think it’s going to be very respectable.

  258. dhunken: So by that estimation Adam’s Single should be available for online listening Next Week’ ¦..YAAHOOOOOOOO

No, all it means is that at least the folks at one radio network are reporting the Mainstream Radio Add date for Adam’s album single is 10/12/09. Typically, a song is at least released online for listening before a Mainstream Radio Add date but not always.

In any case, I would be shocked if it wasn’t available online next week and released before 10/12/09.

Also, that MJ song will suck up a lot of media but based on the MJ previews and the MJ movie trailer, bet it’s a lot of hype for a mediocre song — that will probably sell.

Adam doesn’t count, IMO. He is not your typical Idol #2. I am not saying he will do better or worse than Kris. I am saying that you can’t measure his success in regards to the others who were runners-up, including Archie. The buzz for Adam is SO much higher (I believe) than any of the others, isn’t it?

I’ll reiterate what I said a day or so ago. At first I was really happy because support for Adam’s charities indicated support for Adam. Right now, I’m just happy because both of these well-deserved charities are putting money where its needed. Adam was just the catalyst.

Adam strikes me as a much calmer person than Robbie in his private life but maybe that is just because he is being careful and only shown that side. Adam is OTT as a performer and maybe even more so than Robbie but Robbie definetely seems more OTT privately.

If we look at the stats, in all honesty, it’s kinda all over the place. Sure, placing higher (and specifically winning), does lead to better sales, in general, especially for the short term. But if you break it down by season:

    S2 = 2nd place finisher did better
S3 = was that J. Hud season – and she finished, like, 7th?
    S5 = 4th place finisher did better
S7 = I consider both Archie and Cook, when you combine touring and sales, are both doing pretty well.

So, yeah, it’s kinda been a mixed bag, going all the way back to the beginning. Daughtry and J. Hud kinda proved that you can finish almost anywhere in the top 10 and be the biggest success of the season.

  277. Robbie and Adam are kindred spirits I see. I’m half expecting a scandalous love affair if ever they meet. LOL

  279. [shrug] Not that personally excited about this new-found release.

Really? I’m very excited to hear a new song from MJ. Can’t wait to hear it.

The point of MJ’s release is not whether people buying MJ will exhaust their CD buying allowance, and not buy Adam. It’s that an MJ single will suck up a lot of radio play and media coverage. A song released the same week and the week following won’t stand a chance of exposure. And by the time MJ fever drops, there’ll be new and exciting singles dropping, as well as a 2 week backlog of singles that didn’t get the play they deserved.

So, yah. I hope Adam releases by the 5th at the latest.

  280. I hope you like it.

That’s a great version of WLL! Very clear and his voice was in top form that night. Thanks Sunn.

It sounds like we’re all in for a treat in the coming weeks if the media appearances happen like some think. My dream: SNL, Ellen, and Oprah (I know that last one is strange, but Oprah likes an ott singer). Also, love the album title with just his first name. But that’s probably an overly enthusiastic fan talking. It should more likely be an artsy title, high brow.

  281. Is this the new place for the Adam ‘tards to hang out today so we don’t clutter up the headlines thread again?

    You’re on to me.

  282. And that, boys and girls, ain’t peanuts. PARTICULARLY in this economy.

  284. There’s never been a contestant quite like Adam Lambert on “American Idol.” Actually, forget “Idol” ‘” there’s never been a major-label artist quite like Adam Lambert. So it’s understandable that “Idol” ‘” and music ‘” fans are clamoring for any and all tidbits they hear about his still-untitled RCA debut, which hits stores on November 24. On “Idol,” Lambert proved that he could rock just as loud as Axl Rose and deliver vocals as tender as Jeff Buckley, while on the “American Idols Live!” tour, the “rock gawd” turned David Bowie’s “Fame” into a playful, sexual romp.

Cantiello may be gaga over Kris, but I’ll take this. He’s definitely a believer in the power of the ADAM.

I’ll save my rant about how I wish Adam was also enlisting some lesser-known-but-equally-impressive songwriters and producers (like the Knife and Basement Jaxx) for another blog entry.

Since in the article he states that Kradison are enlisting alot of the same people, why would you focus a rant (saved or not) at Adam about his collaborators and not rant at the fact that the other two obviously aren’t using them either?

This article on adam just came up http://newsroom.mtv.com/2009/09/23/adam-lambert-album-update/

Why oh why..I was just about to go do RL things thinking it’s 345 pm EST and most likely there wouldn’t be anything really new on Adam…. and then you two post these wonderful links….OMG I could have missed these…oh the horror of that thought…More! More! More!

  288. Hi Guys! Yippee..Thank You MJ for our very own Adam thread, we will never run out of things to cover. I vote vor “Sweet Cinnamon” as the kind of mouth wash Adam uses. I am going to be 10lbs. heavier by the time we get Adam music and new vids, eating from boredom.

  289. I’m probably low with my 200,000 estimate, but I don’t want to be accused of hyperbole in the Idol bubble again. My sense is that Adam comes off Idol in much the same way that Taylor Hicks did — a rabid fanbase and everyone else dislikes him for one reason or another.

Idols who are non-offensive, middle of the road seem to sell the best outside of the Idol bubble. I look for Allison and the kid who won to be the big sellers from Season 8. With the right promotion, Lambert could probably overcome the recession and match Blake Lewis’ sales. That wouldn’t suprise me. I just don’t want to set the goalposts that high and then be disappointed. Especially since he’s in uncharted water.

  290. Adam: “Who’s this reliable source, a fiction writer?” He always says the most clever things.

  291. Since in the article he states that Kradison are enlisting alot of the same people, why would you focus a rant (saved or not) at Adam about his collaborators and not rant at the fact that the other two obviously aren’t using them either?

Very true CindyM. Now I’m back on the pile pressure on Adam’s glitter dusted shoulders kick while Kris coasts. The pressure should not be on the runner-up.

  292. Just wondering, can we use this Adam thread till his single comes out? Then we can have an “Adam’s single just came out!” thread. ;)

    Do you think Cantiello was

    1) taking backhanded jabs at Adam,

    or

    2) jumping on the Adam bandwagon at JUST THE RIGHT TIME.

    Maybe both?

BTW, neither he nor Brian has heard Strut, so that seems to just be a rumor floating about.

ETA: hwc, you just made me sad re: Adam’s potential success, or lack thereof. *sigh* I still think that Adam is so different than the others that came before him that it’s hard to tell how well he’ll do. We’ll just cross our fingers.

This article on adam just came up http://newsroom.mtv.com/2009/09/23/adam-lambert-album-update/

LOL at the article . Very funny and very enthusiastic. I think Jim probably cruised this thread this morning and heard us bitching about his hate for Adam. Either that or serendipity has a sense of humour. LOL

    This quote from Jim’s article:

Claude Kelly’s knob-twiddling helped Lady Gaga emerge

    LMAO!!!!!!!

  294. Cantiello may be gaga over Kris, but I’ll take this. He’s definitely a believer in the power of the ADAM.

I don’t watch Jim too much. He is a little crazy for me. I’m glad he could write something up on Adam that sounded grounded.

    ETA:
“Since in the article he states that Kradison are enlisting alot of the same people, why would you focus a rant (saved or not) at Adam about his collaborators and not rant at the fact that the other two obviously aren’t using them either?”

    I’d say different expectations.

  295. I dunno. I don’t know for sure he’ll light the world on fire but its hard to argue he won’t do at least moderately well, and he’ll have a great christmas season because he has the fanbase for it. RCA will push the hell out of his lead single so he should be straight just off that song’s run. Either way he should get to a second album. I don’t really see Adam flopping.

I think its hard to predict past that because every indicator we have is about the idol fanbase and the media, not the rest of the music buying public.

That said he has great producers and some great people behind him, so he has a good shot.

  296. very hard to say HWC, but i’m convinced that if one SONG is a major hit then the sales could skyrocket. Unless you’re an established artist, having a hit or not makes the total difference in sales

The guy with the media hype of DAUGHTRY, the claymate sized fanbase, the voice of Mercury and Buckley combined singing the latest hit songs of Redone and Martin is going to do worse than whatshisname singing a cover from an irish boys band and an Ashley Simpson wannabee?

  298. In case anyone is counting (Mary102, Sidewalkstory?) you can count me in (plus my long-suffering partner) for any effort to get 20 peeps together for GMA on the 24th.
    Thanks.

  299. I thought that was a completely fair article by Jim C. he and Slezak are both Idoltards, just like the rest of us, and of course they have their favorites, and it has been obvious, but they have always given Adam a fair shake, in my eyes. I share his concern also that Adam maybe should have went out of the top 40 hitmaker box with this album, but like he said, as long as they bring their A-game, no complaints here.

You gotta wonder, since all these hitmakers have written for women, they HAVE to have stuff in their arsenal that they have been dying to give to a guy like Adam. He IS in a category by himself, that’s for sure.

ETA: I am sure Jim C. and Slezak were also a little butthurt that they never got the official interview when Adam came out too. Looks like Rolling Stone might have some kind of exclusive with him.

  300. On the topic of MJ’s new song and its possible release on Adam’s single date:

HoppersSkippersMiners: [shrug] Not that personally excited about this new-found release.

Sunn: Really? I’m very excited to hear a new song from MJ. Can’t wait to hear it.

Not to go OT with MJ, but I just can’t get revved. And just so you know, I still have “Thriller” saved in my vinyl collection and I found a near-mint condition copy of Time at my parent’s house a while back where I had lovingly saved it from sometime in the 80’s (?) when MJ was 25 and they ran a huge cover story.

I really adored MJ back in the day, and that’s the problem. He just turned so damn wrong. I’m not even talking about kid allegations, etc. I’m talking about articles which mentioned him ghosting through hotel rooms wrapped up in his own fantasyland, barely looking out windows. But, at the same time, he wrote songs about world peace, etc etc etc. As time went on, he continued to strike me as so hypocritical. By a certain point, no matter what the music, I couldn’t listen anymore.

So that’s why I couldn’t care less about MJ music dropping. I am, however, reminded by the MJ reminescing though of why I’m weirdly glad that Adam hasn’t been sucessful until now. At 27, Adam has seemed to work out most of his demons – the partying, the experimentation (pick your category), and his issues with (yes) his sexuality, self-worth, and how he wants to present himself to others. Through whatever twists of fate, he bloomed at his own rate, in his own time, and subsequently IS grounded in reality.

Adam is charming, talented, and (I fervently hope) is ready to leapfrog to that point where he probably COULD have gone a number of years ago, if the opportunity had presented itself. However, honestly, would he have been as good as he is now? Had the drive? The ability to NOT self-destruct under pressure?

Don’t care about MJ anymore. DO care about Adam.

[grin] That said, yes I be truly pissed if the MJ hype takes one iota of hype away from Adam’s release!!!!

  301. Mika’s ‘Touches You’ sounds just like George Michael. I know completely unrelated.

I’m not completely sure on Jim’s motivations, call me skeptical. Did he do an interview with Adam?

  302. #

You gotta wonder, since all these hitmakers have written for women, they HAVE to have stuff in their arsenal that they have been dying to give to a guy like Adam. He IS in a category by himself, that’s for sure.
    #

I have to agree with you on this thought!

  303. Clearly Mr. Cantiello has been cruising MJ’s today…he is a news guy….he needs product to report…I don’t think he dislikes Adam — I just think he has a huge man-crush on Kris (and wants to hang out with him and be his BFF) but respects Adam’s talent

  304. If they are floating Strut out to “select media”, I wouldn’t be terribly surprised if Brian and Jim were NOT at the top of the list. One would assume that Adam’s publicity peeps are aware of less favorable stuff they have said at various times. Wasn’t Brian the push behind smellygate?

  305. I share his concern also that Adam maybe should have went out of the top 40 hitmaker box with this album,

Should he really? I think he needs to show his label that he is definetely commercial and I think the room he has had for bringing someone else in has been used for former friend (ferras, porter and such). It also seems like Aimee was able to snuggle her foot in.

I am a little worried about Tedder too. Read the article about him that was posted the other day. He talked about his own band and making songs for it, and not doing it in a formula way, but when working for others, it being very formulaic. I hope Adam can push these people a tiny little bit out of their comfort zone and inspire them to do something more than the standard hit formula song.

  306. That Cantiello article is positive. Most people will be influenced by the first graf of any article.. they often quit reading before they get to the end– so that first graf is what really counts.

Cantiello strikes me as the kind of sports reporter for TV who is a hybrid of home team booster and journalist. In trying to be both he is good at neither. (well, okay, he’s really good at the Kris fan boy thing!)

  307. Do you think Cantiello was

    1) taking backhanded jabs at Adam,

    or

    2) jumping on the Adam bandwagon at JUST THE RIGHT TIME.

At least one thing that didn’t strike me as a real compliment: “…rock as loud as Axl…” That’s what he thinks of Adam’s rock singing? Loud?

The other thing: “It doesn’t feel right to kvetch about who he is working with when I haven’t heard a single note of an Adam Lambert song yet.”

  308. Thank you for the mp3s Sunn – haven’t listened to them yet but I trust your judgment :)

  309. hwc–I understand where you’re coming from with Adam’s potential success. But…there really hasn’t been a Idol performer like Adam so I don’t use previous statistics for him. I really didn’t watch Idol before so do you know if any other Idol has gotten the ‘music community’ so positively behind them? I just think the entertainment communtiy is really embracing Adam. And the ‘media’ seem to want to mention his name whenever they get the opportunity. Maybe I’m wrong but I really think Adam is going to be HUGE.

  310. He talked about his own band and making songs for it, and not doing it in a formula way, but when working for others, it being very formulaic.

I am glad you brought that up Saga! I have always been weary of singer songwriters who have a band themselves writing for other people. What is the motivation? Wouldn’t you want to save the good stuff for yourself?

  311. Kris’s brother Daniel Allen just tweeted this:

DA4Real: You know what would be tight? Adam Lambert singing the chorus of “Live Like We’re Dying”..Make it happen!
    11minutes ago from Sidekick

    LOL..too funny.

  312. midwifespal “In case anyone is counting (Mary102, Sidewalkstory?) you can count me in (plus my long-suffering partner) for any effort to get 20 peeps together for GMA on the 24th.”

Please add me to the list. Maybe we want to keep a running count- let me know if I can help linda.ladden@sbcglobal.net

Thank you, MJ, being in Adam’tard thread confinement is kind of fun!

  313. A lot of folks who posted here way overestimated Taylor’s sales, so I can understand the reluctance to predict much for Adam.

The genre somebody is in coming off Idol makes a big difference, though.

Carrie and Kellie P (and even Bucky) show that, with pretty high sales in country going to even people who finished fairly low on Idol. And Daughtry fit into a pretty high-selling niche.

Taylor, however, simply doesn’t sing in a style that’s played much in *any* radio genre today or gets big sales for anyone.

Adam is going for pop. So that means he *can* get more radio play (a lot more, if he’s lucky) than Taylor ever could have possibly gotten on the luckiest day of his life, given the genre that Taylor performs in. And pop radio play certainly can drive sales, if not for albums, at least for singles. All these folks are really quite different from one another. But maybe Adam will sell like Jordin, if his stuff catches on at pop — hot sales on singles, not so hot on the album? I think that’s quite possible.

It’s all a matter of the alchemy between the individual and the time, though, I think. Hard to know what the world will embrace and what it won’t. I do think he’ll get more and better promotion than most of the other second-place finishers have been given, though. I think he’s a lot more likely to be Daughtried by his management and label rather than Dianaed or Justined, certainly.

  314. That said, Idol #2’s don’t have a great sales track record

Disclaimer: Y’all know that I am a huge Adam fan — I guess that’s why I’m in the “special people’s room”.

But I agree complerely, there isn’t much typically “Idol” about Adam. And I would never use Idol history to predict what will happen with Adam. Sure Adam, like other past Idol finalists, has passionate fans, but there is a lot more going on than just Idol bubble fandom. Even the run-up to his album looks like nothing in past Idol history:

    – Featured song in a major motion picture – budget #4 alltime; global release at same time as debut Album. Song will be on a soundtrack album.

    – 2 singles will be released in month before album release — one from album and one from soundtrack album.

    – 1st Album wll be released in UK on 12/7/09 only 2 weeks after the NA release; international release of album planned rapidly.

    – GMA Fall concert to support album release — Last year only David Cook had a solo GMA Fall concert, this year both Kris is on 11/17 and Adam on 11/24.

    – Idol preformance of a song, Mad World, used to promote ABC’s FlashForward, the network’s hottest new primetime show.

    – Adam has unmatched level of post Idol buzz and newsmentions, highest for any Idol finalist or winner by far.

    – Adam’s album is on everyone’s Fall album preview list.

  315. I think he’s a lot more likely to be Daughtried by his management and label rather than Dianaed or Justined, certainly.

    Add new entries to Adictionary…..

    11minutes ago from Sidekick

    LOL..too funny.

I like the Allen’s they are like a second family to Adam.

  317. Hoppers, I understand how you feel, and accept it.
With me it’s a bit different. I only care about the art, the man or woman behind it don’t really concern me. I was never one to read tabloids, or watch entertainment programs – Lor what has Adam done to me? – because I really don’t care about anything my faves do or say outside their field of art.

I can expound and give examples of utter bastards living and dead who’ve produced work that I adore, but I wont. It doesn’t really matter.

You have your reasons for disliking mj, and I completely understand them.

  318. RCA has Adam’s single coming out the same day as Michael Jackson’s? They need to be taken to the nearest psych ward on one of those Britney Spears holds. Lmao.

  319. That Cantiello article is positive. Most people will be influenced by the first graf of any article.. they often quit reading before they get to the end’“ so that first graf is what really counts.

I took it as positive too. But, in Idol land, there’s black and white thinking–you’re either for us or against us, no room for criticism or for gray areas.

I think this is a good point! But, I think it’s the voice! If I was a songwriter or producer why wouldn’t I want to work with a 16 octave voice that can do almost anything!?!?!

  322. Clearly Mr. Cantiello has been cruising MJ’s today’ ¦he is a news guy’ ¦.he needs product to report’ ¦I don’t think he dislikes Adam ‘” I just think he has a huge man-crush on Kris (and wants to hang out with him and be his BFF) but respects Adam’s talent

Funny, I got that feeling too. Instead of “ripped from the headlines,” reading that piece was like “ripped from the threadlines” …

That being said, I thought Jim’s piece was nice, no backhanding really. I’m inclined to believe this marks moving past the competition into evaluating each artist for who they are, who they want to be (musically and performance-wise) and gauging their potential ‘“ like every other recording artist.

I do think that was a little naive (especially with someone so knowledgeable about 19) that he thought for a minute Adam would get free reign to use lesser-known talent.

…I would never use Idol history to predict what will happen with Adam. Sure Adam, like other past Idol finalists, has passionate fans, but there is a lot more going on than just Idol bubble fandom. Even the run-up to his album looks like nothing in past Idol history:

Q3, I love reading your posts, and this one really makes me smile. As I’ve said before, I’ve not followed Idol closely before but I do follow music and pop culture in general, and I’ve never heard this kind of anticipation about an Idol performer before. I do vaguely remember Clay’s buzz when he finished 2nd years ago, but even that pales to the level of industry support I’m seeing for Adam.

  324. Q3–Great job listing points why Adam can’t be compared to previous Idols. I agree completely!

  325. I think this is a good point! But, I think it’s the voice! If I was a songwriter or producer why wouldn’t I want to work with a 16 octave voice that can do almost anything!?!?!

Pretty sure you mean 16 steps.
    :)

  326. Sunn: You have a point for disliking mj, and I completely understand it.

    I see yours as well.

[wry smile] I just REALLY hope the singles DON’T come out the same day….. :-(

  327. Q3 has really hit the nail on the head.

I watched every season, every episode from day 1. Bought an occasional album like Kelly’s, Carrie(good, even if you are a non-country fan like I am) David Cook, Taylor(yeah, yuk, it was drek), & I never voted before this season.

Clay received buzz, but never from industry insiders or heavyweights- he has a fine voice, but he was always going to be Adult Easy Listening.

AI has never had industry cred, it is an updated version of the tried & true talent shows of the past. The fact that industry insiders are weighing in, or even paying attention to when his album is released, is quite major.

  328. ummmm. mj….spell check…

    it’s BRITNEY spears…one “T”. hahahaa

and frankly i don’t know how adam’s album is really going to do against lady gaga’s re-release and britney’s single collection…

  329. But I agree complerely, there isn’t much typically ‘Idol’ about Adam. And I would never use Idol history to predict what will happen with Adam. Sure Adam, like other past Idol finalists, has passionate fans, but there is a lot more going on than just Idol bubble fandom.

Love the way of putting Adam outside the “Idol box”, to me the “outside” looks more like an “above”.
So Carrie, Kelly, Daughtry, Clay, Cook, Kris… are all in the same box looking up to Adam?

This is what all Idol contestants, winners or not have in common: they went to the show because they needed it (in the case of Adam it’s not even arguable since he was in LA for 5 years without getting a record contract) and they all were overhyped considering they are a bunch of karaoke singer without any original music out there.

Even the run-up to his album looks like nothing in past Idol history

Almost every year you could have an argument of the sort for instance last year for Cook:

-Best sales during Idol ever with a record breaking number of songs on the Billboard.

-Most number of votes received during the finale

-Biggest sales for an idol winning song.

-TOML played during the Olympic Games and in a Oprah show.

-Big promo tour with the first ever appearance of a fresh idol winner on SNL.

I am not even a big Cook expert and this list didn’t take too long to write.

  330. Maybe I am living in some type of dreamworld, but I don’t doubt for a second this is going to be a very successful cd. If there is anything I have learned from watching Adam during the American Idol season and on tour, that he’s good at picking songs and then wowing us both on stage live and on itunes. This man knows who he is and is confident that he knows what we will like from him. It’s that confidence and bold performances that has enthralled fans across the United States and with the media. He’s not afraid to be over the top, but also that adorable boy who melt our hearts with his sense of humor and beautiful smile. Adam is one of a kind and I don’t doubt for a second he’s going to set a record for the number of Cd’s sold in one week for an American Idol contestant. I can’t wait for November to get here so I can buy my two copies of his music.

You can’t compare Adam to Cook because Cook was the winner and Adam was runnerup. The winners get more hype and more promotion; thus, hiking up show tunes sales. The winner gets promotion for coronation song. You can’t compare the rest because Adam’s album hasn’t been released yet. The last thing is the voting… you can’t compare that either because David is straight and Adam is gay.

—–okkkk….i get what you are saying but not the entire world watches american idol…he can do well for an american idol contestant but maybe in the whole industry, he comes out just okay. i mean he is releasing a cd the same week BRITNEY SPEARS and lady gaga…..

  334. First time poster, long time lurker.

You know I was a huge Chris Daughtry fan during S5 (not a internet warrior though, stayed clear of THAT). When Chris’s cd was released, the week of Black Friday, all of us fans wanted to make sure he did well. And he did, he sold 304,000 copies THE FIRST WEEK. Granted, it was Christmas shopping time and many of my friends received the CD that year, it was still a great showing.

Anyone saying Adam will sell 200,000 THE FIRST YEAR, is way, way off base. Cook has sold over a million and the only way a record company will keep an artist on the books, is sales that at least match this.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Adam approach Chris’s sales, adjusting for our rotten economy. Anyone that says we are recovering should come to Florida – we are dying here.

  335. Thnx valentin432 great post:D

wooow too.much.happy.I need to idletard .brb;)

  336. Lucy – ITA wrt comparing Adam and Taylor. My biggest problem with Taylor during his year really was that he wasn’t very current – I just couldn’t see where he’d fit in on the radio, or in genres, that were really selling a lot and making a lot of money. He was always more “old school” (kinda like Melinda Doolittle her year).

Adam, otoh, seems very much in the present, and definitely has a keen ear for current sounds, future trends, etc. He seems to fully embrace all of what’s hot in music right now (including mixing eclectic styles – which is all over the place on today’s airwaves.)

  338. Thanks you gabbi5:) not trying to be negative but just realistic and HI GARDEN GNOME!!!!

  339. Keep up the good work, Team Lambert! :)

A good friend of mine just got fired from here. :( I am going with another friend for a work to decompress–this was a complete shock, and apparently she was escorted from the building (she had worked here for TEN YEARS). So I will go for a walk and be back later.

BTW, I did like Jim’s MTV article, I just don’t know how much I *trust* him, ya know? He DM’ed me once (I know, I’m very popular ;)), so points for that.

This thread is making me smile so much. I’ll be back a little later on.

  340. [puzzled] Um, luv, y’know I flove you and all…but what was that in English??!!!

So Carrie, Kelly, Daughtry, Clay, Cook, Kris’ ¦ are all in the same box looking up to Adam?

    Hey there, Valentin..
I didn’t see “outside” as meaning “above.”

I think outside the box is a valid evaluation… and to say that is in no way demeaning to the other Idols.

You are right about this: they went to Idol because they needed it. They all had a dream and had the guts to go for it. I admire all of them for that.

  342. Sidewalkstory, count me in this time for GMA – I’m going to try. Happycat14@gmail.com or you can find me at TWOP. I’m confused, why does one need tickets for GMA? Isn’t it a free concert. I just walked by the Early show one and saw it.
    Are we at 20 yet?

And so nice to hear that Fuller is managing Adam. I’m glad Adam isn’t doing any gigs right now.

  343. suebrody

So sorry about your friend, what a shock!

Have a drink with her for the rest of us.

  344. Look, we need to settle this. Will Adam have:

    A) The greatest selling runner-up album in Idol history
    B) The greatest selling debut album in Idol history
    C) The greatest album in history.

  345. Q3 always love your insights – I agree

…there isn’t much typically ‘Idol’ about Adam. And I would never use Idol history to predict what will happen with Adam.
    – Featured song in a major motion picture
    – 2 singles will be released in month before album release
    – 1st Album wll be released in UK on 12/7/09 only 2 weeks after the NA release
    – GMA Fall concert to support album release
    – Idol preformance of a song, Mad World, used to promote ABC’s FlashForward
    – Adam has unmatched level of post Idol buzz
    – Adam’s album is on everyone’s Fall album preview list

    Completely agree

    and bridgette12 – exactly!

“…I don’t doubt for a second this is going to be a very successful cd. I can’t wait for November to get here so I can buy my two copies of his music.”

  347. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Adam approach Chris’s sales, adjusting for our rotten economy. Anyone that says we are recovering should come to Florida ‘“ we are dying here.

@garden gnome – I say if anyone thinks we are recovering should come to California as we are going from the frying pan into the fire – literally and figuratively. I have been out of work since December 2, 2008 and no new job in sight. Our unemployment figures are still rising.

    Happy Birthday Squirrley!!!

@suebrody – sorry to hear about your friend. Bottoms up and keep em coming bartender!

@Valentine – good post up-thread. Not the “above” post but this one:
“The guy with the media hype of DAUGHTRY, the claymate sized fanbase, the voice of Mercury and Buckley combined singing the latest hit songs of Redone and Martin is going to do worse than whatshisname singing a cover from an irish boys band and an Ashley Simpson wannabee?”

Thanks mj for clearing out the basement for all the Adamals to have a playroom – ahh padded walls included and Hoppers left the lollie pail out!

  349. OK, going home now. Today was another productive day at work. See you all later tonight.

  350. I don’t think any of the other Idols ever got the pre-release that Adam has received. Adam was singled out in Rolling Stone as being a new cd release that they were anxious to hear. Major outlets all over the place are talking about the cd and I am sure tv will want him once a single is released. I could see a SNL skit involving the Rolling Stone cover…..but I digress…

I think that this hype could work either way. It is a hella pressure situation, isn’t it? Especially since 19 doesn’t have a wonderful track record of letting their performers “do their thing”. Hopefully, they are letting Adam have some say in what the final sounds are. He seems to have damn fine taste! But Adam is going to need to “wow” on a few of those songs to live up to what’s being said.

Come on people – we are in the Adam-padded room – D -All of the above!

  354. The DonorsChoose total just shot up another 10K or so (reappearance of TALC and the Lambskanks) which brings the total to 223K. If the 32K from Musicares are included, Adam’s fans have crossed the 250K mark in charitable donations! Impressive and way to go *round of applause*

  355. You can’t compare Adam to Cook because Cook was the winner and Adam was runnerup. The winners get more hype and more promotion; thus, hiking up show tunes sales. The winner gets promotion for coronation song.

Q3 didn’t distinguish between winners and runner up, that’s what she wrote:

Even the run-up to his album looks like nothing in past Idol history

    Past idol history includes winners.

You can’t compare the rest because Adam’s album hasn’t been released yet.

All the events that I listed were before Cook released his album.

The last thing is the voting’ ¦ you can’t compare that either because David is straight and Adam is gay.

Reading your posts, I guess that you have a strong opinion about gay/lesbian descrimination, so I am not even going to try to argue about wheter or not there was a significant “anti gay” vote the day of the final.

  356. lob: The DonorsChoose total just shot up another 10K or so (reappearance of TALC and the Lambskanks) which brings the total to 223K. If the 32K from Musicares are included, Adam’s fans have crossed the 250K mark in charitable donations! Impressive and way to go *round of applause*

  357. I, too have to go take care of damn RL….

anyone have the key to the padded room?

    oh, i have it.

    bye!!

  358. Hi everyone. escape from RL for a while. Do we have any new theories about 19 handling Adam or Adam’s future album sales?

Read Jim’s article and don’t think it’s backhanded. Surely his affection level in this cannot par the early one about Kris. But I like this one better b/c it sounds reasonable and people outside Adam special room can actually get some real information by reading it. I don’t need to know Jim’s or Slezsak’s relationship with Kris.

I like this special room. This morning I just read an article in CNBC about the different opinions in an expert panel discussing when the recession will end. Just like here, there are optimists, prudent optimists and pessimists. Of course we are discussing something that impacts our lives more directly than recession does, we are in the same position as they in predicting the future: we are waiting for more signs and hints.

  359. A) The greatest selling runner-up album in Idol history
    B) The greatest selling debut album in Idol history
    C) The greatest album in history.

    A) No. It will be too tough to match the 2.3 million that Clay Aiken sold for a variety of reasons
    b) No. He won’t come near the 600K that Clay had his opening week
c)No. Not even close. Rushed Idol albums are commerce not art. Hopefully, it’ll have a few good songs.

  360. Thanks for the update lob!

You’re welcome Hoppers – I didn’t notice they were missing either until they were back …

    [leaves for real….]

We can leave? I thought MJ locked the door? Guess I better go too – night all *tentatively pushes at the door of the padded room and takes a peak outside where nothing too scary appears to be lurking about. Leaves room*

  361. For some reason S8 has really pushed the superlatives. Rickey had Adam’s single as the best Idol single ever. And I just read a review saying that Kris’ single was the best Idol single ever. Must be something in the water.

Since I’m not an invested fan of either, I’m looking forward to seeing this play out. :)

  362. Maaaaaaybe a

where hoppers? idk what post you were talking about (english) but the answer is probably yes, broken and misspeled English typed speedily on my itouch:)

  363. Posted this in the headline thread but you all seem to hang in here, so here it goes. From the interview with Ryan Tedder … somehow this scares me. I think we need to be prepared for an album with lots of shit songs on.

One Republic is a completely different animal for me because I can’t sit down and write more obvious, straight-ahead lyrics with OneRepublic. That’s kind of the catch. We might do something musically has a vibe of some other influence. Lyrically, I can’t sit down and write the same lyrics I would write for Kelly Clarkson or Rihanna. I have to do something that’s my own personal take. Our lyrics are little bit more random. I don’t want to say esoteric. They’re not obvious. It’s the best way to put it. They’re not written like cookie-cutter, songwriter-for-hire kind of thing, which a lot of songs on the radio sound like. That’s how they’re written. They’re written by two or three people sitting in a room trying to write a pop hit. I approach OneRepublic completely differently. So there’s absolutely no songs on this album that were scrapped from other artists, nor are there any songs that didn’t make the album that have gone to other artists. I try to keep those two as separate as possible.

    Just for jpfan

    E) Adam will have the greatest selling album of any openly gay American Idol contestant in history!

  365. AHHHHHKKKKK!

All of these Adam predictions are summoning the “Curse of Taylor Hicks.”

    STOP IT!

  366. It is time for me to leave as well, as I end this really really productive (NOT!) day at work- be back later after I get my special needs 7 year old to bed tonite & watch SYTYCD

Actually really nice comments from Jim C. and based on this and other comments on leaks and release dates I think the ‘unofficial-official’ leaks for Adam will appear just after Kris’s 1st weeks single sales are announced – just my prediction…which is basically next week..hurry up!

  368. halfie, make sure to qualify it as “openly gay (before album release) American Idol contestant in history!”

    ETA: REALLY going now…see u l8er

  370. LOL..I love this thread like Adam loves glitter.

Archive it, Schmarchive it…who cares, really??? I just think it’s nice to have a little fanwank thread now and again filled with positive thoughts and rainbows.

A,B,C?? Who knows, it’s a much different record-buying market now. E – Definitely since he’s the only one who was open when he released his album. BTW?? What happened to D??

  371. Taylor Hicks was on the cover of People Magazine as their most Eligible Batchelor. He was all over the TV, with wall to wall Ford commercials. He was featured on SNL skits. Had a solid fanbase and strong tour sales. Album bombed.

I would caution you to not overlook the elephant in the living room. Nobody like Adam has ever successfully launched a music career. I would like to think that wouldn’t be an issue, but he is a very polarizing public figure.

  372. halfie, make sure to qualify it as ‘openly gay (before album release) American Idol contestant in history!’

    {LarrySandersMode}Indeed. All albums sold before coming out as “a gay” are clearly disqualified. [/LSM}

  373. Nooooo. On the one hand I can’t wait for Adam’s single to drop asap. On the other hand if it’s released next weekend, that’s the weekend I run off to a resort island with no internet connection. WHAT AM I GOING TO DO?!?!?!!?

    *SOBS UNCONTROLLABLY*

  374. Hwc I live your posts.stupid itouch.okay haven’t eaten anything ALL DAY must eat.brb don’t post TOO much….:0

Excellent point. Early buzz doesn’t necessarily translate. As someone who watched the Idol finale last season (and a few other episodes) and was therefore familiar with Cook (and liked his voice), I can tell you that until I started following Idol this season, I had completely forgotten about the guy, despite the post-Idol buzz. He really hasn’t broken out of the Idol bubble yet. He’s not performing on the Grammys or major music award shows or playing big events. He’s not a tabloid fixture. I now know that I’d heard his singles on the radio from time to time, but I never realized it was him. He may have a successful career, but it’s completely under the radar.

I know we think Adam is “different,” but as much as we want to speculate about Adam’s buzz, I think it’s impossible because we are all so entrenched in it. We have *no* objectivity.

IMO, Adam will keep the buzz and succeed based on one criteria: Does he have good songs. Good songs will keep him on the radio and expose him to a wider audience. Good songs will entice casual fans to buy a concert ticket. Even with all of Adam’s talent and charm, if he puts out a bad single, it won’t get played. Adam will only rise to the level of fame we all wish for him and have lasting success if he has good songs.

  376. with wall to wall Ford commercials

    Can I get a “Possibilia-deeeeeeees?”

You’ll never know how that grated on my nerves.

  377. I’m thinking it was recommended to be archived because when Adam fails, as the suggestor has often stated will happen, it will be around so that the many instances of ‘I told you so’ will have some substantive evidence to back it up the ridiculousness of the hyperbole. Just like someone wanted to find the archives for the Taylor Hicks success threads to quiet hwc down the other day. It’s always better to have archived evidence..lol.

Unless she has a major problem (which I think is why the season 5 comment sections were erased), all posts are archived.
You can go back and read about all that happened in season 6 and 7 for instance.
So all our OTT, pointless discussions will be saved for the next Mj crop of readers to point and laugh.

  378. Q3: Even the run-up to his album looks like nothing in past Idol history

Valentin432: Almost every year you could have an argument of the sort for instance last year for Cook:

-Best sales during Idol ever with a record breaking number of songs on the Billboard.
-Most number of votes received during the finale
-Biggest sales for an idol winning song.
-TOML played during the Olympic Games and in a Oprah show.
-Big promo tour with the first ever appearance of a fresh idol winner on SNL.

My point was that there is no way to predict Adam’s future based on past Idol history — not that Adam was better than past Idol finalists — just different.

Part of the reason I believe that Adam is not typical is because there was a lot happening for Adam that is outside of the “Idol bubble” — that is, not done by 19 or done by Idol fans. Just look at promotional activities. For Adam the following major promotional activities were NOT set-up by 19:
    EW covers
    RS cover
    20/20 interview
Mad World used by ABC TV for FlashForward promos
    2012 feature song

And, although I will not predict sales of anything without hearing Adam’s new music, I will say there is the potential that he could do very, very well.

Regarding the comparison to Cook: A couple of the items listed above, may not be true:

    1. We don’t know if Cook got the most votes on Idol ever, Kris might have.

    2. We also don’t know the AI8 iTunes sales numbers so there is also no way to determine if Cook had “Best sales during Idol ever”. Plus, iTunes AI7 and AI8 are not comparable — sales time was different, AI8 had albums and so on. My bet is that Adam sold more iTunes $ than Cook because Adam sold about 80,000 digital albums and Cook didn’t have 1, and Adam sold far more videos than Cook.

TOML promo can’t be compared to Adam because it was the promo for the winner’s song and Adam didn’t win. And the SNL appearance was part of the album promotion which Adam hasn’t started yet.

  379. sure sunn:) I honestly have NO EXPECTATIONS OR PREDICTIONS 4 Adam’s album

Which is out in 62 days btw

    Not that I yknow like downloaded an app called days until or like idk used my avatar as the background picture and then like wrote in lime green text and cool font Adam lambert’s album and under that the days.that would be ridicoulous.whistles.OKAY I DID! ge’ez;

Can we please stop all the prediction talk? We have no idea how Adam’s album’s is gonna sell because we haven’t heard the album yet.

    Returns to mantra.

Awww Sunn, it will be okay. I think most people are realistic that Adam’s album could go either way. I think he’s really talented, but there’s so much more than talent that is involved. In all honesty, if the success game were just about talent, Adam would have been signed long ago. However, for alot of reasons, he wasn’t. I think his unwillingness to hide who he is/was had a lot to do with that. I think his musical theater training probably hindered him too. A lot of people want more mellow, easy-going, familiar sounds rather than the in-your-face stuff that Adam cultivated through musical theater and Zodiac. I’m just hoping for a solid debut with the opportunity for more music in the future. If he’s a failure, I’ll still be looking for his music either independent or back in theater. I’m a fan and having heard his voice, I’ll seek it out in the future. My hope is that I won’t have to look too far. :)

All the hyperbole was for just an exercise in fun fan-wanking. The possibilities!!!!!!!!

  381. I believe Season 5 comments aren’t archived because way back then, MJ used different blog software and the comments didn’t transfer. I was a participant in the “predictions” thread however. Let’s just say I was way off! LOL.

  382. Thanks, guys. (((( ))))) I wanna cry. She has been here for 10 years, has a 14 year old, single mom, no parents, no grandparents, one sibling, nicest person…tragic, really.

Anyway…What I saw Adam do was take a song each and every week and make it is his own. EVERY.SINGLE.WEEK (Okay, maybe not so much with MW, but then again he picked a somewhat obscure cover and brought Simon to his feet.) Who does that? No one does that. He garnered tremendous buzz during the competition, after the competition, on the Tour, and now. I would be floored (as well as devastated) if Adam didn’t do really well with this album. That said, I think where he will really shine (and maybe pick up huge record sales) is on his tour. We all know the visuals. I love his studio recordings, but it’s the performances I remember, and I can’t say that about any other Idol (I remember a few of Kris’s, Danny’s, Allison’s, and Matt’s, but not all of them; I remember EVERY SINGLE ONE OF ADAM’S, and not just b/c I watched them all multiple times. ;)). He brought so much to every song, and then was so humble afterwards. That is who he is. And the combination of talent, charm, and performance skills is what will, IMO, make him, in the words of Paula, iconic.

So the album might not sell as well as Daughtry’s (even over lots of time), but he is going to be big. I predict that he will be as big as Carrie, Kelly, Cook, JHud, and Daughtry. I don’t know about Kris, but this isn’t about Kris. I do not like GaGa’s performances (at all), but a lot of people do, and that has helped boost sales of her album and sales, I am convinced. Adam will kick butt at every awards ceremony, whether or not he has been nominated (AMAs, please, to begin with?!), and he will be remembered because of this. I do not know if his album will be huge at first, as many artists/producers/writers/columnists predict, but I think it will after time. I think Adam is going to be an extremely successful career, and no one deserves it anymore than he does.

And I think the album will do really well, but I don’t want to get my hopes up *too* much, as to be devastated if not. I don’t doubt that it will be an extremely strong album; I hope album sales reflect this, but again, if not, the ADAM LAMBERT EXPERIENCE GLOBAL TOUR (c 2009) should boost them considerably.

    Oh, and hi, GG.

And no, I get *zilch* work done today. :)

  383. Q3, I’m with you.

Also..whoever posted this so far back I can’t remember:

The point of MJ’s release is not whether people buying MJ will exhaust their CD buying allowance, and not buy Adam. It’s that an MJ single will suck up a lot of radio play and media coverage. A song released the same week and the week following won’t stand a chance of exposure. And by the time MJ fever drops, there’ll be new and exciting singles dropping, as well as a 2 week backlog of singles that didn’t get the play they deserved.

    This too.

  384. Thanks, guys. (((( ))))) I wanna cry. She has been here for 10 years,…

Sue, don’t be upset about the security escort out of the office. That’s pretty standard operating procedure these days. It doesn’t reflect on your friend at all. The company is obligated to insure that data/files/contacts aren’t taken when the person leaves. There is so much damage a scorned person can do when no one is watching. Trust me, you can’t predict what a person will do under these circumstances. In many IT jobs like I work, if you give your 2 weeks notice your accounts will be locked before you get back to your desk and you will be escorted out and paid for the 2 weeks.

  385. hwc: Taylor Hicks was on the cover of People Magazine as their most Eligible Batchelor.

There is NOTHING similar between Taylor and Adam except that Taylor has a lot of enthusiastic fans. Taylor’s original music wasn’t relevant and he mismanaged his opportunities.

Taylor’s album was late (December 12, 2006 release), included 3 songs from his pre-Idol album, didn’t have a single release to support it, didn’t have 19M promo support, and wasn’t good. And even with all that baggage sold over 700K. If Taylor has worked on his album before October, got it out on time and so on, he would have easily sold over 1 million.

I am confident that Adam will have a single out in October, his album will be released on 11/24/09, it will be released internationally, it will not contain his pre-Idol songs, and it will have 19M promo support. The ONLY wildcard left is what will be on this album and will it be any good.

And if the elephant in the room is that Adam is openly gay, I think that elephant is dead for enough people to make an album a hit — if it is good. If anything, it might help Adam because it will make his release more newsworthy.

  386. because Adam sold about 80,000 digital albums

I am glad you brought this up Q3…Now this was 80,000 for a album of covers. It is also significant to point out that this Album stayed on Itunes top 100 pop albums (never going below #70)the whole time it was available. (It was pulled as soon as the tour was over, at that time It was 54) The album had consistently sold. My take on this is as Adam was touring new fans discovered him and went and bought the Album. While 80,000 is no great shakes what it does indicate is Adam can have longevity on the charts. That his touring did bring new fans that became interested enough in him to purchase a album full of covers. Though this is small it does indicate that Adam does possess the ability for staying power just on his voice and Live show. Couple that with a halfway decent Album and songs and there is great potential and possibility for success. IMHO

  387. Who needs an archive. I believe I predicted a minimum 2 million units for Taylor’s CD. He had a solid opening week and that was it. His Idol fanbase bought the thing and, basically nobody else.

That’s pretty much what Blake and Cook have run into as well. The girl who won Season 6 got one group outside of Idol — tween/teen girls downloaded the heck out of her singles, but didn’t buy album unts.

The only people who expand their market coming off Idol are those who plug perfectly into an existing radio niche. Middle of the road bottle blonde commercial country. Middle of the road wallet chain commercial pop rawk. They could probably hit pay dirt with a 16 year old Disney radio pop tart, but they haven’t had that winner since (arguably) Kelly Clarkson was force fit into that mold. They tried with that McPhee chick, but she didn’t have a smidgeon of charisma.

  388. Adam’s gay?

LOL And on that note, I’m outta here. Thanks for your words of support and your enthusiasm and the whole 9 yards. ;) We are up to 442 posts, and it’s all about Adam and not just the Tour! WOW!

I will peek in later, tho, maybe before or after SYTYCD.

    Adam FTW. :)

  389. Did Daughtry, Cook, Archie or any other former idols have their debut album’s released internationally?

  390. I have been lurking on and off at work all day and couldn’t wait to get home to post. (Torture!)

Please count me in for the group GMA thing.

(Now off to catch up on the thread….)

  391. The DonorsChoose total just shot up another 10K or so (reappearance of TALC and the Lambskanks) which brings the total to 223K. If the 32K from Musicares are included, Adam’s fans have crossed the 250K mark in charitable donations! Impressive and way to go *round of applause*

    ((HUGS suebrody and adamland))

Hi garden gnome!! Thanks for delurking. We promise not to do any degnoming in this Garden of Paradise ;-)

    YAAAAYYYYYY!!!

I don’t care what the hell we call ourselves, Adam fans ROCK!!!

  392. Now this was 80,000 for a album of covers.

It’s one of the better albums in my iTunes collections. It’s a better album than 99% of the singers will ever record. I actually think that most Idol wannabee should stick to cover albums. Maybe half and half between the usual bad new songs and really great well-known covers. Why try to be anything else?

I mean seriously? Was Clay Aiken ever going to be anything but a cover crooner? Nothing wrong with that. There’s a market for it. Heck, I’d rather hear good covers of songs I like than the dreck that’s on most Idol albums.

  393. For Adam the following major promotional activities were NOT set-up by 19:
    EW covers
    RS cover
    20/20 interview
Mad World used by ABC TV for FlashForward promos
    2012 feature song

2012 song having nothing to do with Sony producing both the movie and Adam’s album is really doubtfull. And yes I heard Adam’s interview just like I read Cook’s interview about LO being offered by Cornell when the story was slightly different.
The rest is not “unique” in the story of Idol, as you know it’s not the first an idol contestant got the RS cover and Daughtry got to promote Prison Break which was a much bigger show at the time than FF.

My point was that there is no way to predict Adam’s future based on past Idol history ‘” not that Adam was better than past Idol finalists ‘” just different.

And I still don’t see how Adam is “more unique” than Cook, Kelly, Hudson or Daughtry. To me, it looks a whole lot like the same hype year after year with a different fanbase arguing over “their” idol being different.

My main problem is that your basing all this “unique” talk when we have no original music from Adam (unless you count Want or his pre idol tracks, then i would strongly disagree), if he comes out of the gate with ground breaking music then why not, but it all seems very premature to me, knowing that 3/4 of the people he is working with are well known Idol related producers/songwritters.

  394. Adam Album Release Anxiety ,that’s a new malady . But it’s curable with a new song, so all will be well.

Several have been hooked into watching AI because of Adam so it shows he has the potential to catch other non AI following consumers. Like me and my friends and family we are not into supporting everything American Idol – we listen to the music and if we like it we get it. Except for David Cook and Archuleta , we were not so aware of the other AI finalists and winners in past seasons. So we kind of checked them out as we were following Adam during the Season . We did not find anyone we really , really liked so we ended up not downloading anyone elses . The AI related music we own aside from all of Adam’s is only that of David Cook , Archuleta and Allison (Two of her songs ) and Kris ( one of his songs ) . And yes we got all of Adam’s music video and also two of Allison’s.

So really no worries for me here. I have decided to enjoy the rest of the days listening to Adam’s music , while I wait for his album. Cheers !
Well just think –As Long as Adam’s Music is Mine – all will be fine

As Long as You’re Mine- Adam

  395. Regarding the comparison to Cook: A couple of the items listed above, may not be true:

    1. We don’t know if Cook got the most votes on Idol ever, Kris might have.

    2. We also don’t know the AI8 iTunes sales numbers so there is also no way to determine if Cook had ‘Best sales during Idol ever’ . Plus, iTunes AI7 and AI8 are not comparable ‘” sales time was different, AI8 had albums and so on. My bet is that Adam sold more iTunes $ than Cook because Adam sold about 80,000 digital albums and Cook didn’t have 1, and Adam sold far more videos than Cook.

You’re using season 8 data when my point was about Cook pre album period, all my points were valid at that time and contributed to the hype for it. And for the sake of it, I still believe they are.

TOML promo can’t be compared to Adam because it was the promo for the winner’s song and Adam didn’t win. And the SNL appearance was part of the album promotion which Adam hasn’t started yet.

Well, you didn’t descriminate saying “Adam’s pre album promotion is unique in the history of non-winner contestants” but unique in Idol history.
I strongly disagree that TOML got the “normal” winner promo, it is the best selling Idol winner song and being played in the Olympics is not standard procedure.

  396. Valentin, I’m curious to know who your fave idol is.

If you want to read my comments during the season, you can go back and check them out in this blog.
I’ve said several times that Adam based on his performance was the best ever idol contestant, I just don’t get all this hype without any music to listen to.

  397. Now this was 80,000 for a album of covers.

His AI album on iTunes was not available internationally, if it had been the sales would have been higher. It was only available in a few countries. I for one could not buy it.

  398. Some UK fans including me, set up a US iTunes account, but I know many people who didn’t who were very disappointed that they couldn’t buy the album. The viewing figures for Idol weren’t bad either for a show that was not shown on a mainstream channel (rather a reality show channel), so it would have been justified for UK iTunes to have Adam’s and Kris’ albums available to buy.

    NoBo was available though.

  399. I was just gonna lurk in this thread for context, but Cook was brought up so I’ll participate:

Valentin432: Almost every year you could have an argument of the sort for instance last year for Cook:

Q3: My point was that there is no way to predict Adam’s future based on past Idol history ‘” not that Adam was better than past Idol finalists ‘” just different.

I’d argue that every Idol contestant is different, and has the potential to chart a new trajectory not based on past Idol history… I agree with Valentin– everyone is unique until they’re not…

Regarding the comparison to Cook: A couple of the items listed above, may not be true:

    1. We don’t know if Cook got the most votes on Idol ever, Kris might have.

I guess we don’t really know with 100% certainty, but the evidence is strong that DC got the most votes ever. Ryan said the S8 finale had nearly 100 million votes, without mentioning any records being broken (Also S7 finale was in the 2010 Guiness book of World Records as the largest telephone vote ever) S7 had 97million, and DC got 56% of those (he won by 12 million). I don’t know that Kris won by over 12 million votes.

Like you said, the two seasons aren’t that comparable since S8 had albums released at the end, which stayed on sale for months after the finale, while the S7 tunes were yanked the week after the finale, for whatever reason. So to compare Adam’s digital albums sales with DC’s isn’t that fair. But let’s say we do anyway– to say Adam’s 80K digital albums meant he made more iTunes $$ is I guess possible, but not necessarily true. I’ve seen some pretty compelling evidence and calculations that DC sold remarkably well during S7. iTunes rankings and popularity bars were leaked far more frequently in S7, and we know that DC had three Idol songs (Billie Jean, Always Be My Baby, and for whatever reason, Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing) hit #1 on all iTunes, and stick for most of the week, which, based on sales data at the time, meant well over 100K, at times over 200K for that week. And he often had several tunes in the top 10. This was not post-win. (Of course post-win, he sold a million downloads in one week– with several charting songs only available for 3 days that week. Chalk that up to post-win fever, but bottom line DC made a LOT of iTunes $$ that season). The couple of times that rankings did leak for S8, it seemed Kris and Adam were both doing well, but no one seemed near the top of the overall charts. Anyway, I’m not saying this to say DC is better than Adam, but rather to offer some perspective. Sure, I strongly believe that DC sold better than Adam or Kris on Idol, and would’ve continued to sell well had his covers remained for sale, BUT that means nothing in the real world, and Kris and Adam could easily outsell DC if the new music takes off. Fans had huge expectations of DC’s album sales based on his AI iTunes popularity, but his current album sales, while respectable, did not measure up.

TOML promo can’t be compared to Adam because it was the promo for the winner’s song and Adam didn’t win. And the SNL appearance was part of the album promotion which Adam hasn’t started yet.

TOML promo can’t be compared to Adam, but TOML is a song DC did on Idol, and its being played on Oprah and in the Olympics is comparable to Mad World being used for that new show, right?

Lastly you can argue that a lot of advantages DC had in votes/popularity on AI, etc. was due to the AI audience’ prejudice against Adam’s sexuality, but you can conversely argue a lot of the magazine covers and 20/20 interviews and general buzz Adam is getting now, is in part due to interest in his sexuality. So it goes both ways.

Anyway, my point is, good stuff that happened/is happening during the season, or over the summer tour for Adam, Cook, Kris, anyone doesn’t always translate to future success. That’s all I’m saying.

  400. Adam Album Release Anxiety ,that’s a new malady

I think it’s worse. We seem to suffer from a defect in the Frontal Lambert Adrenal Intensity Lobe.

    1. Whatever Q3 has mentioned.
    2. This is arguable but I’d say his vocal ability both in terms of technique and versatility (dance, cabaret, musicals, alternative rock, glam rock, classic rock) is astounding; I have no experience with previous season’s AI contestants other than watching some Clay videos, but considering my favourite musical vocal tastes run more towards people like Jeff Buckley, Robert Plant, Freddie Mercury, Matt Bellamy, I’d say he ranks among them for vocal uniqueness and technicality. Because this is entirely a subjective thing, as a sanity check, I think I’ve read enough comments from people who are actually in the industry that agree with this.
    3. You can’t deny that he’s set a precedent for being out of the idol box when all the buzz in entertainment programs and magazines simply allude to that fact. He’s not your cookie-cutter idol, whether you like it or not.

BTW, where did the 80,000 copies sold statistic come from? Curious to know because I never tracked any of the idol sales.

Oh and like dyg1 said, the idol album was not available internationally, else quite a few people I know would have definitely bought it.

  402. Adam promised us and I still believe him, and in him. I refuse to go all doom and gloom until I have to, and I don’t expect to have to. So there.

  403. I don’t get the archiving references but back in the day I predicted Taylor would bomb. Look it up. And somewhere between Taylor Hicks and Daughtry is where I’d put Adam. One winner and one runner up.

I think Adam has potential to do great but also is polarizing so my crystal ball is kind of cloudy on him. I think old timers are just saying that none of that OMG, he’s the greatest thing since slided bread is new. And I wouldn’t pooh pooh Cook’s success at selling albums. Even though I was a wet blanket on him last season, selling 1.3 million albums is no easy feat these days.

And as someone who’s been here since S5, Adam does not have the biggest buzz of anyone off Idol. He’s gotten great reviews and has a devoted fanbase but his actual sales and radio play (so far) are just okay dawg.

  404. If you want to read my comments during the season, you can go back and check them out in this blog.
I’ve said several times that Adam based on his performance was the best ever idol contestant, I just don’t get all this hype without any music to listen to.

Hype=a fans optimistically hopeful expectation. For many like myself Adam evoked a visceral connection when he preformed on AI. (Some say otherworldly) That no prior Idol did. I have watched American Idol religiously since season 1. I had very strong personal favorites. (Kelly, Kimberley Locke, Carrie, Daughtry, Carly, David and David) but none moved me and affected me the way Adam did. I am grateful for his singing makes me feel renewed and special. Maybe my hype can be a little much but I want the best for him for selfish reason .I want him to be around for a long time so I can again feel renewed, rejuvenated, and special each time he sings a new song. Don’t mean to upset anyone in the process.

Now there is the rub. Did Kris really win by a “landslide?” If he did, he could have gotten more votes than Cook although the total Season 8 finale vote was less than Season 7.

It really doesn’t matter, but it’s fun to talk stats while we pass the time. :)

^^^THIS!! I really haven’t seen many of GaGa’s performances, other than AI and a bit of the VMAs. But that is one point we’re really not addressing. GaGa and Katy Perry, who came out of NOWHERE in the past year and a half with a few catchy songs and a gimmick. Yet their both considered gold-plated stars and headliners in that short of time ‘“ off the success of one album (each).

Yes, their performance schtick helps, but who would have seen it or even heard of them unless they liked their very poppy songs that got great radio play? I watch/DVR a lot of talk shows, but I think I only saw a glimpse of GaGa on “Ellen” before seeing her on AI.

The songs that propelled them to the top were written/produced by some of the same people Adam has in his corner. He’s got everything they’ve got, but add to that a HUGE following and name recognition before releasing a single note of original work. I hope he doesn’t go quite so OTT as GaGa in his performances, but I’d go for a Pink! style, for sure.

Also, by all accounts, GaGa’s RS cover didn’t hold a candle to Adam’s in sales though she was supposed to be this megastar (God knows there were still stacks available every time I tried to find Adam’s).

  407. And as someone who’s been here since S5, Adam does not have the biggest buzz of anyone off Idol.

Ooh, historical insight! Want! Can you list the ones who have gotten the biggest buzz? Did Daughtry have more buzz or Taylor, his season?

  408. The comparisons mean next to nothing but are fodder for the thread which I am addicted to, so compare and predict and assume all you want…

I happen to think that Adam has surpassed every marker in his life and in his AI experience and will surpass again with what’s about to come.
His timing is right and the talent is there and the interest OUTSIDE idol is there…he will do very well.

Kris’s brother Daniel Allen just tweeted this:

DA4Real: You know what would be tight? Adam Lambert singing the chorus of ‘Live Like We’re Dying’ ..Make it happen!

I think I understand why Kris had a message for his bro to stop being stupid in a recent interview (one of the last tour interview)..

  410. He’s gotten great reviews and has a devoted fanbase but his actual sales and radio play (so far) are just okay dawg.

Do we know Adam’s actual I-Tunes sales? I thought they were only made public after the finale. At the time the alleged “leak” occurred, Adam was ahead by a healthy margin.

And as someone who’s been here since S5, Adam does not have the biggest buzz of anyone off Idol.

Ooh, historical insight! Want! Can you list the ones who have gotten the biggest buzz? Did Daughtry have more buzz or Taylor, his season?

Dude, I’ve been following Idol since Season ONE and I can safely say that Adam’s buzz is up there with Kelly, Carrie and Daughtry. Plus there’s an extra fascination with him because he’s openly gay and the media and the world are waiting on pins and needles to see how he’s going to do.

And the amount of INDUSTRY respect this guy is getting is HIGHLY unusual. The closest comparison I can make is Carrie Underwood. The country world went pretty nuts over her.

  412. Taylor had huge buzz his season including the cover of People Magazine and a Ford commercial shown 24/7. In fact the entire S5 had huge buzz because it had 30 plus million watching each week. I think that year it had more viewers than the Olympics, Grammys and possibly the Oscars.

Daughtry had a huge fan base and I remember Ellen asking Presidents Bush and or Clinton to investigate his early ouster on Idol, a joke of course.

And David Cook broke tons of Billboard records last season. He also had huge presales and matched Daughtry in his opening week sales.
Clay (before my time) must have been huge because he sold 600K albums in one week.

And Idol is also suffering from an aging audience. It seems to now produce artist that appeal to soccer mom types more than the general audience. So it’s harder to get the big buzz acorss the board.

Of course, Carrie Underwood (as far as I know) had no buzz and still has become the biggest success off Idol in selling albums. So it’s not all about the buzz either.

  413. I was so sure (in my mind) Brian Friedman was going to choreograph Adam’s music video as they are friends. Guess not. Brian tweets:

Yes I am going to be back on X Factor…!!!

I’m leaving for London in less than a week till mid december. The reality has set in and I need to get my mind right for it…

Do we know Adam’s actual I-Tunes sales? I thought they were only made public after the finale. At the time the alleged ‘leak’ occurred, Adam was ahead by a healthy margin.

No, we don’t know the overall numbers. Soundscan only “officially” started tracking sales numbers AFTER the show ended. We do NOT know what kind of sales the idols were doing DURING the show (a fact that Kris fans like to conveniently forget).

The only indicator we got was the popularity bars leak mid season which showed Adam miles ahead of everyone else.

  416. Why is Adam the next Taylor Hicks? I’m not getting that at all. He should do way better than Taylor because radio will actually play Adam’s music. And Taylor looked 50 even though he was 30. That didn’t help either.

I can only judge Adam’s sales by the number released to the public. He may have sold ninety trillion downloads during the season but we don’t know that for sure. The 80K copies of his album sold on iTunes and the sales of Mad World and NB were just okay.

And ditto to the fact that his pre Idol stuff flopped. Makes me think most of Adam’s buzz is vested in a hard core group of fans without much general interest. But in the end, it’s the new music that matters not the old.

  417. Mostly a lurker here but I am just getting around to reading this thread. OMG, Adam sure does create tons of buzz. I love it!

Anyways, I just downloaded Sunn’s mp3s. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

  418. And the amount of INDUSTRY respect this guy is getting is HIGHLY unusual. The closest comparison I can make is Carrie Underwood. The country world went pretty nuts over her.

Of course, Carrie Underwood (as far as I know) had no buzz and still has become the biggest success off Idol in selling albums. So it’s not all about the buzz either.

Haha, and here is where I learn buzz is always subjective =P. Nevermind my question heh.

  419. No no no. No one is saying Adam is the next Taylor Hicks. The thread has just become muddled a bit. The comparison started with sales of Idols and comparing the buzz around the Idols.

    No comparison. Pleeeeze.

  420. The only indicator we got was the popularity bars leak mid season which showed Adam miles ahead of everyone else.

Yeah, that’s what I thought. I don’t know why there’s this assumption that Adam was behind based on sales that occurred post-Idol. To me, it stands to reason that the winner of a major show would get a boost in sales just after its conclusion. I tend to go along with the theory that people who want Adam’s songs want ALL of them, which is why his album sales have been consistently higher than those of anyone else on Idol (Season 8, anyway — although I watched, I didn’t get so invested in the previous 7 years to have followed their sales records). Also, it’s clear to me that those of us who like to hear him also like to see him, which would explain the fact that, at least whenever I checked, he had far more videos in the top 50–and at higher levels–than anyone else.

  421. Black swan, black swan, black swam….(as Sunn might say)- since none if us can predict the future the Yay sayers might be just as accurate as the nay sayers. If by some unfortune chance the album is not a great success I’ll be sad them. It makes
no sense to be negative ahead of time….
so back to Black swan, black swan…

  422. Reading this post has been very entertaining I see everyone has gotten there boxes out and are trying to figure out where all the pieces go..lol
Earlier mj mentioned something in reference to Idoldum not having a ‘gray area’ this is probably why I don’t fit so well in idoldum my whole life resides in the ‘gray area’ ..

  423. Album sales, like any other consumer product, depend on 3 things:

1- Quality of the product, in this case music, and it’s relevancy to the market
    2- Promotion
3- Quality and nature of competing product.

    In that order.

Quality of the product is the best, though not sole, predictor. Unless we know what market it serves and how well it serves said market, there is no way to gauge it’s commercial appeal.

Unless we’ve heard at least the single, no amount of comparisons with past idol statistics, or future expectations based on buzz and fan appeal, can tell us anything remotely reliable about future sales.

    That being said;

    Black Swan.

  424. I don’t have any doubts about Adams music. He hasn’t let me down so far & I don’t expect him to. I don’t feel the need to compare him to past or present Idols. For me there is no comparison. I like his singing better than anyone else I have ever heard. The songs he sang on the show were ones I don’t normally listen to & liked because he sang them. I expect that will be the case with his album. That is more than good enough for me.

  425. Carrie was before my time and I know nothing about country. I just heard not one word of her as a general Idol watcher but I wasn’t really paying much attention. But I don’t remember seeing her on the cover of RS or People Mag either. It’s possible in the world of country, there was great buzz about her.

  426. Sorry about the spelling errors the edit function won’t work for me !

  427. I don’t feel the need to compare him to past or present Idols. For me there is no comparison

I agree, I don’t like the comparison box.. heck I am a gray person.. I screwed up all my boxes!!!

Brought this over from the headline thread since it is sort of About Adam (at least indirectly about the song Time for Miracles)

  429. Whoa, some wild mood swings on here. I have no doubt that Adam will be successful. How successful is the question. It’s way too early, with no music from him, to know if he’s going to be a huge superstar right away (or ever), but I’d be stunned if he tanks — the music would have to be really awful or appeal to a really small demographic for that to happen. I want Adam, Kris and Allison to all have long successful careers — in fact I’d prefer steady success over a long period of time to some sort of meteoric rise and fall. It’s extremely difficult to sustai a music career for years — on the other hand, there are a lot of one-hit wonders or people who are at the top briefly and then disappear.

So I’m not going to freak if Adam isn’t this immediate superstar — as long as he’s successful enough to have somethign to build on and gain more control over his career. Same thing with Kris and Allison…

  430. I think Adam fans should look into relaxation techniques. It’s going to be a long time until November. Try to chill out before you get worked up about the success or failure of an album that’s not even finished. :)

I have the same taste for vocalists as you and I enjoy Adam’s vocal ability as well but ultimately if Plant or Mercury were singing “My Heart Will Go On”, I would have never bought any of their cds.
The voice is only part of the music, that’s the why I can’t go on with the Plant/Adam comparisons, because the whole Led Zep recording of WLL is IMO way better than Adam itunes even if the vocals are comparable.

    3. You can’t deny that he’s set a precedent for being out of the idol box when all the buzz in entertainment programs and magazines simply allude to that fact. He’s not your cookie-cutter idol, whether you like it or not.

Yes he’s different in style. He wears guyliner, glitter and rhinestones, this is different from any previous idol, I don’t care about that.
He is a proud and open gay man, but I don’t buy albums based on the sexual preference of the artist.
He has done drugs, went to Burning Man, etc. again probably unique in the history of the show and also irrelevant personal details for me.

All this doesn’t matter if he produces shit music.

Adam promised us and I still believe him, and in him. I refuse to go all doom and gloom until I have to, and I don’t expect to have to. So there.”

    My fellow Adam Addicts,

STEP AWAY FROM THE PANIC BUTTON!

I agree with Cate. We have nothing to worry about.

That being said, We are leaving on vacation on Saturday. I just sent my hubby out in 102 degree heat (So. Cal) to buy me a mini lap top so I won’t get behind on “what’s goin on”. :D

  433. Yes, and as we sit here an compare apples to oranges to rutabagas to cantaloupes, we get nowhere except proving that:

    a) You can always make a legit-sounding case with ancient-history (highly subjective) statistics and

    b) Those of us who weren’t here can only agree or disagree based on our “outside the bubble” perceptions. My perception ‘“ as a pop culture follower who had a peripheral awareness of Clay, Taylor and Cook (I was rooting for all three in their respective finales), I don’t think their buzz came anywhere close to what Adam’s is now.

Admittedly, I don’t have the same perspective because I am “inside the bubble” this year, but as a rule it’s generally easier to be on the inside looking out than on the outside looking in.

I am in media and have pretty good instincts for when someone is generating genuine media buzz that is NOT as a result of PR. When the RS cover was decided and the EW story came out, Adam was still a contestant and receiving the same PR as all the other contestants. The only reason why AI went along with Adam’s EW cover was because they were not interviewing him for it.

Right now we have nothing to do but speculate, but I have sky-high expectations because though I have followed music and pop culture my whole life I have never come across a performer that has blown me away as Adam has. Never even close.

  434. I don’t feel the need to compare him to past or present Idols. For me there is no comparison

I agree with this wholeheartedly. My above refutation is based on an inference that Adam’s future sales might relate to his sales during Idol. My response to that is that we simply don’t know what his sales during Idol really were. We know he did well in the video and album categories, so, on the bright side, it’s possible that he did better than we know on singles sales or that those who might have bought his singles opted for the whole shebang, instead, and forked over the $ for the album.

  435. Countdown to ‘2012’ ² Begins October 1 as Columbia Pictures Unveils an Exclusive Two-Minute Scene From the Highly Anticipated Film During Largest North American Media Roadblock Ever Executed

Wow! that must cost a fortune. How on earth do they expect to make back such an advertising cost on top of a 250 mil budget in this world economy?

They either have a lot of faith in the film, or the film is such rubbish that they need the biggest weekend numbers they can get to mitigate the word of mouth.

  436. I hope he doesn’t go quite so OTT as GaGa in his performances, but I’d go for a Pink! style, for sure.

I agree. I really have a hard time watching GaGA. I’m not ‘feeling’ the sparks shooting out of her breasts or the blood dripping down her face gimmicks. lol Adam doesn’t need to go there (…worrying now about the flaming headress!). The Zodiac Show ‘Crawl Through Fire’ was great–that worked for me. Adam’s vocals are so powerful and he has such great stage presences–he doesn’t need OTT GaGa.

  437. Hahaha jpfan I need meditation classes:) maybe I should take up yoga…NOPE.FLAILING THINKING ABOUT ADAM!!!!!!!! that reminds me in school today we had to fill out surveys for our consuelors.doesn’t really count for anything.so OBVIOUSLY I put AI as my fave tv show and for fave musical performer I wrote ADAM LAMBERT.then I came back and added three!!!.then more exclamtion marks!!!!.and by the time I was done my exclamation marks extended off the page;/hee

Oh you are such the good fan. :-)

  439. Why anyone talking about Adam’s pre-idol work? It was never for sale on iTunes or otherwise, it’s irrelevant.

  440. Adam just hit 190,000 followers on twitter. My guestimate is that he will top 200,000 in early October if the current pace continues (it’s a little slower than during the tour). However, if there is a music leak or a TV appearance or something like that, it will be sooner.

  441. On the 2012 countdown thing. I don’t care if this is a desperate attempt at getting promotion for a crappy overbudget movie but. Pls.leak.TFM.snippets.

  442. Headline thread says that 2012 pulls out its promotion starting October1. Not sure if we get any Adam.

I still think his album single’s drop will be october 5.

  443. Hello guys.

I just got admitted to the AL padded psyche ward. The inmates are active and are exhibiting the usual signs of “Frontal Lambert Adrenal Intensity Lobe” (halfie gets the prize).

The time until the Adam song release is going to be really rough. Take deep breaths. There is nothing we can do about it except wait. The past, in this case, is not a good predictor of the future. We don’t know if the album is going to be good or bad. This endless game of prognostication is giving everyone serious heartburn.

All of us need to find a more productive ways to wait out this period. Any one have any ideas?

  444. Television audiences watching virtually every major North American broadcast and cable outlet will have the opportunity to see an exclusive, two-minute scene from the film as part of this simultaneous roadblock on Thursday, between 10:50 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. EDT/PDT.

    HOLY CRAP!!! That is un-freakin’-believable.

Why anyone talking about Adam’s pre-idol work? It was never for sale on iTunes or otherwise, it’s irrelevant.

We are so far past relevance at this point, it won’t be long until we’re breaking out star charts and weather patterns and the migratory habits of herbivores in the Serengeti to gauge past/present/future success comparisons.

  445. We are so far past relevance at this point, it won’t be long until we’re breaking out star charts and and weather patterns and the migratory habits of herbivores in the Serengeti to gauge past/present/future success comparisons.

    LOL.

  446. Thought Adam was supposed to tweet tonight the winner of the donation competition. That’s what one of his tweets says – he would announce on Wednesday. So I would expect something soon.

Thought Adam was supposed to tweet tonight the winner of the donation competition. That’s what one of his tweets says ‘“ he would announce on Wednesday. So I would expect something soon.

I wondered too, but then remembered he is recording today. I wonder if those will even be the final numbers, because Donorschoose.org said they would accept checks up until Thursday. What an accomplishment for the fan groups, what a great idea from Adam.

  450. TOML promo can’t be compared to Adam because it was the promo for the winner’s song and Adam didn’t win. And the SNL appearance was part of the album promotion which Adam hasn’t started yet.

As the runnerup, Adam may not get that gig. I think a lot of people will scream and holler if Kris does not get that one.

  451. I’m back. What I miss? ;)

DO WE GET TO HEAR TFM? WHEN WHEN WHEN? :)

  452. Valentin432: My main problem is that your basing all this ‘unique’ talk when we have no original music from Adam (unless you count Want or his pre idol tracks, then i would strongly disagree), if he comes out of the gate with ground breaking music then why not, but it all seems very premature to me, knowing that 3/4 of the people he is working with are well known Idol related producers/songwritters.

I think there is something different going on with Adam than with past Idol finalists. I am not saying he is better than past Idol finalists or that he will sell a gazillion records, just that Adam IS different. And he is positioned to be big IF HE DELIVERS A QUALITY ALBUM. That is no small IF.

Regarding the talent that Adam is working with — several are new to Idol — RedOne, Sam Sparro, Ferras, Jim Jonsin, etc. Others, like Dr. Luke, have worked for with past Idols and many A-List artists. The whole list is really impressive. And even more impressive, is most of these folks have been on board since early June.

Great positioning + talented collaborators + 7 weeks in the studio + Adam’s talent = I AM OPTIMISTIC about Adam’s upcoming album.

I like to live by the Monty Python adage of ‘always look on the bright side of life!’

I like that. And why not? I am certain that people were optimistic about Daughtry, and he still sold a lot. So enough with all this negativity. We all have enough to worry about without worrying that if fans are excited and optimistic about Adam’s prospects, then change we’ll magically change this “Prince” into a “Frog” OR WORSE we’ll change him into TAYLOR HICKS. LOL! Adam will have to bleach his hair and learn to say “all y’all” and play harmonica! I’d pay to see that!

edit: don’t tell people not to be negative

  453. I agree with everything you said Krickette. There are songs which Adam did on Idol which I would not normally listen to like ToMT, RoF and ACIGC but i found myself appreciating and even LOVING them because of the way Adam interpreted those songs.

I’ve watched Idol since S5, and the only contestants that i have rooted for were Daughtry, Cook and Adam.

  454. BestAI
    September 23, 2009 at 8:07 pm

TOML promo can’t be compared to Adam because it was the promo for the winner’s song and Adam didn’t win. And the SNL appearance was part of the album promotion which Adam hasn’t started yet.

As the runnerup, Adam may not get that gig. I think a lot of people will scream and holler if Kris does not get that one.

I don’t think SNL producers make their decisions based on where an Idol placed. If SNL wants Adam over Kris, they’ll get Adam. Kris fans can screan and holler all they want.

  455. I am very optimistic. I’ve been watching since S4 and, although Carrie had less media buzz than bo, she was always the chosen one by TPTB, Simon said that she would be the top seller idol. She had full label support, made a good cd ald sold a lot. Daughtry was similar, he was TCO, had support, sold a lot. Taylor had no support in making his album or promoting it.

I live in South America and we eat up everything the labels want us to (as regards international music, national is a bit different). I have no doubt that this is fundamental to make or break a career. And adam has incredible support, besides having an incredible voice that is fresh, quoting RedOne. He is also more interesting than carrie and possibly than Daughtry (in terms of personality, I mean). I can totally see adam on the radio here, his electronic sound is what plays all the time here too.

As for cook, I was his biggest fan, made my husband crazy because of my obsession, but forgot him when the show ended and never followed the tour. For me, Adam is much more addictive. I dont think cook broke the idol bubble. But if 19 wants to sell adam like they sell any pop act that I have to listen endlessly on the radio, he may break it faster. He has the goods for it, I think.

For someone who asked earlier if former idols were promoted outside US, Cook’s cd is sold here but was not promoted at all, so I dont see much the point. Idol is available in cable and has not much reach.

  456. How long can we keep this thread? Can we get to 1,000 posts? Maybe we can post till the single gets released!!!

I am waiting for Mia Michaels to choreo to MW…

ETA: Yes. Daughtry, Cook, and Adam were the three I rooted hardest for and voted for. :)

  457. All of us need to find a more productive way to wait out this period. Any one have any ideas?

    We need daily “post lectures” by Q3 and Susan M;

    Then we need Sunn to post from the Black Swan at 30 minutes intervals;

Then terraj to post upbeat snippets every 20 minutes.

We will then get reality checks fro hwc at 1 hour intervals

Followed by counter reality checks by Valentin at 1.20 intervals.

Add to that the comparison of apples to oranges, to cantaloupes and mangoes, and tomatoes to honeydews by the random Chris D., David C., and Taylor H. aficionados.

With time on our hands after all of the above input, someone will start an Adam network and we will listen to each and every Adam musical endeavor ever put to tape or CD.

ETA: add halfie for snark at 15 minute intervals.

And suebrody will be the thread cheerleader and be ready at a moments notice to toss those pom poms in the air and re-energize the positive in the thread as needed.

CindyM will be the resident comfort giver to the fevered brow of the Adamals.

  458. We are so far past relevance at this point, it won’t be long until we’re breaking out star charts and weather patterns and the migratory habits of herbivores in the Serengeti to gauge past/present/future success comparisons.

    Finally, laughter returns.

  459. As the runnerup, Adam may not get that gig. I think a lot of people will scream and holler if Kris does not get that one.

Ohhh, a whole SNL of one liners, should be thought provoking!

  460. Wow. I got such a high from this thread while lurking at work today and could not wait to come home and join the party. I just got caught up and I now see the party has turned into a wake. [Story of my life. lol]

However, I refuse to be discouraged. Adam has delivered on his promise so far and I trust he will continue to do so.

I am not going to predict the magnitude of the success (or lack thereof) for his upcoming album as I am way too vested in him and therefore have objectivity issues.

I will say however that I am encouraged about his future by these factors:

    – The Voice
    – His visual & stage presence (can’t wait for those vids & concerts)
    – Level of (non-AI) industry excitement & interest in him
    – His lack of naivete as it relates to the music biz
    – Sound instincts as it applies to his craft (fire-y headdress notwithstanding)
    – Great work ethic
    – He’s not a pushover but will listen to reason/compromise
    – His intelligence, wit & charm (can’t hurt)
    Oh, and……

    THE VOICE!

Squirrelly: Happy Birthday! – What’s left of it. :-)

  461. Channeling positive energy. Adam wants to sing songs that empower, that makes you dance, and makes you feel sexy. Many have stated that this young man has awakened something inside them. It wasn’t awakened so that we could stress over his success.

While you are waiting for our “Black Swan”, what about yours? Take the energy and excitement and apply it to your life. Take some risks. Everyone here is so creative, brilliant, witty, fun. Every thing happens for a reason. Strut your stuff.

Don’t make Adam have to tweet us to get us off the ledge everyday.

    I don’t like this post, but…

  462. Thought Adam was supposed to tweet tonight the winner of the donation competition. That’s what one of his tweets says ‘“ he would announce on Wednesday. So I would expect something soon.

So, the ONT group will get their own chat, and Adam is supposed to deliver supplies. The ONT people (and others who donated on their behalf) got so much money, is Adam supposed deliver supplies to all those projects under ONT?

  463. ETA: Yes. Daughtry, Cook, and Adam were the three I rooted hardest for and voted for.

These are my three idols also. I also liked Kelly, never voted for her. Liked Daughtry, never voted for him. Loved Cook, voted for him in the finale only (and only cuz I was pissed at Simon and thought he needed the votes after Simon’s remarks). FLOVED Adam, voted for him every week without fail.

  464. I got Snow Patrol for U2. I liked them BUT I WANTED MUSE. *bitter*

Can I provide irrelevance? I am happy to provide that. And lots of waving. :)

  465. Don’t make Adam have to tweet us to get us off the ledge everyday.

    hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

  466. Wow, what did I miss since I left work ? Oh, Adam is Taylor Hicks- yeah, right… Since we are in the padded room, hyperventilating, I have brought a huge supply of barf bags for this crazy flight. I have taken one barf bag, who needs one, they’re free……

  467. Cindy M: ” I think we should decide Adam’s success based on the astrological charts of all of the past/present idols compared to his. I know Adam would prolly approve of that method.”

    HAAHHAHA

  468. Oh, I can also provide Twitter updates. I asked Aimee and Adam to come here for the posting party. They did not reply. But maybe I can get others. I am very persistent.

I wonder if Adam WOULD be willing to take a part in JCS? I hope he would if offered a part. ;)

How many ppl are signed up for GMA so far? Who wants to get me there from Boston and provide lodging? I am REALLY FUN! :)

  469. This is how I look at it. Adam is recording with the best in the biz. With his vocals and versatility, he can make Itsey Bitsey Spider sound good. He is recording about 20 or more songs. Out of those, “they” (whoever they are) are picking about 12ish for the album. Out of 12 in the album, we may not love eight or so. That leaves fourish.

Why are we worrying? His songs can’t be any worse than David C., Daughtry, Kelly, or even Kris. The industry lurves Adam. What the label or management doesn’t do in promotion, the industry will. Look at the buzz Adam was getting when he made top 13. Look at the buzz while touring. Look at the buzz now. If Adam can make Play That Funky Music sound good, then we have nothing to worry about.

  470. We are so far past relevance at this point, it won’t be long until we’re breaking out star charts and weather patterns and the migratory habits of herbivores in the Serengeti to gauge past/present/future success comparisons.

    ROTFLMAO!! :-)

  471. If anyone wants to hear what Muse sounded like opening for U2 tonight in NJ, Adamcast did a live vid stream, it’s recorded here:

Wow, that was great. Thx for the link.

  472. I like to live by the Monty Python adage of ‘always look on the bright side of life!’

I like that. And why not? I am certain that people were optimistic about Daughtry, and he still sold a lot. So enough with all this negativity.

    Bravo!!!!!

  473. GMA: Me (2)

    Itsy Bitsy Spider? LOL

If Adam could make Want listenable, he can make ANYTHING listenable or much, much more. ;)

ITA: I lurrrve Muse now. I can’t stop listening to them. Oh, and the Kradam video. :)

  474. he can make Itsey Bitsey Spider sound good.

YES this is the bubble tweet I am waiting for.. lol

  475. Was this always on IMDB.com

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1262410/

So it’s possible this may happen?

Wow, Squirrely, I don’t know. I’ve just seen online wishing and hoping. It looks like those people own the option right now and are developing it. 2010 though? Seems like they should be farther along if they expect to release next year. Still in development and not even close to preproduction? No way.

Take your time guys, get everything dialed in and then maybe Adam will have time to shoot that late next year. Please oh please …

Don’t make Adam have to tweet us to get us off the ledge everyday.

    Yeah, that’s pretty much it.

    ETA: adamland ‘“ LOL!!!

  476. If Adam fans can travel all over the country to see him on the AI tour, can you imagine them buying his album? Can you imagine them flying all over the country to see his solo tour? My hubs let me drag him to two AI shows (I could have gone to more), and he knows to please me, we may have to travel afar for his solo tour. I’m not worried about Adam. He is talented and smart, and his fanbase, which is growing everyday, will take care of the rest.

  477. he can make Itsey Bitsey Spider sound good.

YES this is the bubble tweet I am waiting for.. lol

Itsey Bitsey Spider kinda goes with my avitar, except my spider ain’t so itsey(except in the avitar)

  478. Hi all

I always catch up with these threads just when they start to peter out. This one started well. It seems that we’re all wearing straight jackets. And we’re all trying to climb the padded white walls of a special room that MJ has given us. And Adam has been collaborating with some really cool people who will help him to create a really amazing album that millions of people will buy and love till their dieing days. There are a few naysayers and skeptics wandering the halls but as far as I can tell they’ll be waking up in the locked ward, eating crow instead of candy.

Thanks for the candy Hoppers. We do have a taste for sweet things around here.

Hmmm. Did I miss any vital information or is that about it? Actually, there’s sunshine outside right now so I’ll come back in a couple of hours to see if anybody is still here. If not, see you tomorrow.

  479. I will keep track of everyone, if you say yes to GMA

I’m in for the group thing.

  482. I have never traveled more than an hour or so for a concert. Adam may just break me down. I may just become a groupie. Just may. And I think you are completely right, BestAI. His fandom keeps growing and he just keeps attracting more and more interest. Unless his album sucks, and there is no way that it will (how could it?!), then he is going to do just fine. I want more than fine, but I will take fine for now.

Oh, and I want him to host SNL. He was so good on Best Week Ever. Give the man the mic!!!

    Who else do we have?

I’m in for the group thing.

I am thinking about treating myself. I am considering the group thing. GMA might be just the thing.

  484. Oh lord. Adam is not Taylor. LOL.

Adam is a AI contestant with a rabid fanbase. There has not been one such contestant coming off idol who is not still working years later. Even Taylor cleared 6 figures last year. Its just a matter of the degree to which he is working. Adam will be fine.

Now will he be the Biggest!Supasta!Eva! Who knows. That depends on the material, and that is hard to do in a rush. But there is a chance it could happen.

The worst case scenario for Adam is to do just okay for a runner up. What does that mean… gold and a top 20 record? Cause you know he’ll get to 20 just off hype and promo cash. LOL. And then he’ll continue to build a career off that. He’s fine.

I’m not an Adamtard and I am very cynical of 19’s ability to handle him correctly, but even I’m not worried about him like that. That dude is beyond set. His worst case scenario is starring on Broadway. That’s a damn good worst case scenario. He will be more than fine. Please.

  485. No leakage yet? Dates of releases? NOTHING???

  489. adamland, you forgot halfie for additional snark!

With regret, I am contractually obligated to 19E and can’t bring the snark without prior clearance.

  490. I think it was Adam that said way, way back that he has been getting offers to do so many different things. His management has to sort through what they think is best for him. Can you imagine having that option? Yes, I think Adam is getting offers to do things we don’t even know about. I know it just isn’t his crazy fans, but the industry also think Adam is mad talented. As much of a jerk Gene Simmons can be sometimes, he is a smart man. I truly believe he thought anyone “coming out” before they have established themselves is career suicide. I believe Adam jumped that barrier because of his talent and charisma, and his American Idol fans looked beyond those superficial facades.

  491. I still FLOVE AI but to a SLIGHTLY lesser extent after the end of the world(brb sobbing unconteollably)

    be back soon DINNER!!!:/

  492. I think we should decide Adam’s success based on the astrological charts of all of the past/present idols compared to his.

OK, this cracked me right up!
I think one of the things about Idol that appeals to the audience is that watching it makes us all feel like we’re experts on the music business. It’s like how I get every 4 years when I watch Olympic figure skating. All of a sudden, I’m critiquing the skaters on their salchow and axel jumps when I, myself, can barely make it around a rink without clinging to the side wall. With Idol, we don’t just get invested in our favorite performer. We also get invested in being RIGHT about our favorite performer. The Idol’s success becomes a matter of personal pride. That’s a lot of pressure to put on ourselves, considering we really have no say in anything at all when it comes to these Idols’ careers.

I think Adam is going to do extremely well because he’s got people who have already heard some of his music saying as much. But, if he doesn’t, I, personally, don’t plan on spending the next 10 years of my life worrying about it. Adam’s a grown up. He’ll figure something out. Meanwhile, those of us who like him know that we’ve got at least one album to look forward to – and it’s going to be out in 8 weeks! Whoohoo!

    No prizes for me? *snif*

    Double Frakk – ETA’s added.

  495. All right, class.

Please sit down and assume the yoga position for meditation. Repeat after me: OMmmmmmmmmm. All will be good. All will be right. Adam will do well enough. We will stop worrying. All will be well. The universe is with us and the stars are in alignment. All will be well.

Now, don’t you feel better. Stop worrying and go sort your Adam photo collection if you are bored.

    Thank you.

jesus christ, this place is gonna explode once his single leaks.

To quote Leroy Jethro Gibbs (NCIS) “Ya think?!”

  497. Q3: I think there is something different going on with Adam than with past Idol finalists. I am not saying he is better than past Idol finalists or that he will sell a gazillion records, just that Adam IS different. And he is positioned to be big IF HE DELIVERS A QUALITY ALBUM. That is no small IF.

Regarding the talent that Adam is working with ‘” several are new to Idol ‘” RedOne, Sam Sparro, Ferras, Jim Jonsin, etc.

I agree specially if they release his album world wide like they had talked about. I don’t think they have ever done that before or even talked about it. I could be wrong but I don’t think so. If they do they will be promoting Adam in ways they have never done for another contestant. It all depends on his album being a good quality release.

ETA (you know you wanted me to): what is double frakk? I am so 12. Except I’m not.

Yep, and when the single emerges, the site will bend and break (reference to our friend from One Republic). Sorry in advance, mj.

Another interview from the tour I missed. With Elvis Duran. Talks about his album and that there is one “finished” song that he loves in the can. Wonder if it’s “Strut”?

Confirms single in October on the 15th and it will be titled “happy birthday to you”. Ummm…it’s a joke.

I wonder why I missed these, I guess I should have checked the tour cities for interviews for more than a couple of days after the tour city.

I’m sorry everyone is down about Adam’s prospects but frankly anyone going to head to head with Michael Jackson is going to get crushed like a bug. There’s just no two ways about it.

I’m sure 19/RCA are aware of MJ’s single and are prepared for it. They know the business better than we do, and they want to make money. So I’ll trust that they know what they’re doing.

  505. For me, the one thing that sets Adam apart from every other idol before him is that he was in a different league altogether before he ever auditioned for the show. Sure, there are some like Kelly, Carrie, and Daughtry who had very good voices that propelled them to success after idol, but the majority of idols that go through to the top ten are nothing all that special. The one thing Adam has in common with Kelly, Carrie, and Daughtry is his excellent vocals, but along with his voice he also has many other talents and the “IT” factor that is so rare in one’s lifetime. I’ve lived long enough to see it happen only a couple of times and I can guarantee you that Adam has “IT”. His being gay is only adding to all the qualities about him that are making him so special instead of being a deterrent. Simon knew what they had in front of them and the music industry knows it too. Adam knows what he’s doing. He proved that to us on the show and at the concerts. He is one of a kind and will be just fine.

  507. Well, going to have to use my padded room day pass for an hour to get myself from Point A to Point B.

Will be reporting in from the home base in an hour. Must remember to DVR “Glee” tonight and definitely “Modern Family,” which is hella funny, BTW.

Goodnight Luv! You always go to bed just as I’m getting home.

Will be doing serenity chant in my car (okay listening to all Adam, all the time, which is practically the same thing).

  508. Hi guys, lurking as usual. I just wanted to post regarding the thought on Adam appearing on SNL and that the Kris fans would go crazy etc etc and that only the winner would get on. Trust me when I say I know of what I speak: Lorne Michaels is an extremely powerful man and has complete control over SNL. If he wants Adam over Kris, it will be Adam or nobody. (Having said that I have no information on where he stands) He couldn’t give a rat’s ass what 19 wants and especially not what Kris Allen’s fans think. They are very careful about their musical choices. He is like Jann Wenner – Jann Wenner wanted Adam for the cover and Adam it was. Didn’t matter who won. Period. If he wants Kris, then there will be Kris. This is not a man who is pushed around in the entertainment business. This I know. Records labels beg for their artists to be on SNL, not the other way around. And don’t forget he was the model for Dr. Evil, in Austin Powers, albeit humorously!

  509. In other news, there’s a chance we might get to hear a bit of TFM on October 1. Sony is launching a huge campaign for 2012:

    Sony’s Roadblock Campaign for 2012

Two minutes of ‘2012,’ set for release on Nov. 13, will be shown on television on Thurs., Oct. 1, sometime between 10:50 p.m. and 11 p.m. Eastern Time. The footage will air on three of the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS and NBC), 89 cable channels, local stations in 70 markets and Spanish-language networks.

By the studio’s calculation, the so-called ‘roadblock’ will reach about 110 million television viewers ‘“ a delivery that would exceed the Super Bowl.

Come on! Put a bit of TFM in there, Sony!

  510. Well just wet over to the headlines thread. Contest on HAC Radio Station. Michael Buble’s new song or Kris Allen LLWD. Guess who won Michael Buble 73%.
So who gets the spins, but Buble.

Now if Adam was in a contest Lady Gaga or Adam, who would win get the radio spins?

If it were Muse or Adam, who would win?

Just sayin…Radio stations are gonna do this. It helps to be known outside the AI Bubble to get your spins.

  511. ETA (you know you wanted me to): what is double frakk? I am so 12. Except I’m not.

You didn’t watch “Battlestar Galatica” did you? Frakk was the word they invented in the place of “fuc*” – it was their way of having the cast say it every few minutes without getting sensored!

  512. I’m sorry everyone is down about Adam’s prospects but frankly anyone going to head to head with Michael Jackson is going to get crushed like a bug. There’s just no two ways about it.

I may be a little too optimistic But I still feel every thing will be fine. I am notworried at all.

  513. Why hasn’t Adam made it before now? IMO, those in the industry did not want to invest money and the risks for someone who is openly gay and flamboyant at that. Who do we know, actor or singer who did that? NO ONE. NO ONE. I can bet a million dollars there are established people in the biz who are still in the closet.

Adam Lambert, smart move trying out for American Idol. Middle America American Idol is more forgiving that those heads in the biz. I bet they are kicking themselves now. Adam, your stars are lining up.

(Sorry guys, I had a few drinks, and even got my hubs to make din din so I can organize my database on my computer (so he thinks ha, ha).

  514. SEEBALLIN RT @SEEBALLIN Adam Lambert is MY favorite singer! Are you wrking in the studio with him today?<-Damn that dude got fans,i just typed his name

LOL at this tweet. “Damn that dude got fans; I just typed his name.”

  515. I would like to further say that its not like 19 said to Rolling STone, gee, you can’t have Adam , you have to have Kris because he won. Remember, unlike Taylor (and seriously why is Adam even being compared to him here? Have faith people!) 19 wanted ADAM all along. I love Kris, but I don’t think 19 will have any problem throwing him in front of a bus for Adam if that’s what they want.

  516. I need alcohol…lots of it after reading this thread

I shall go into hiberantion till January, and then I might peek! Yikes!

  517. It’s not a competition. And ppl can buy MJ *and* Adam’s albums. Or one or the other or neither.

It certainly is a competition. Especially in this economy.

Sales isn’t really the biggest problem anyway. I never expected Adam to be #1 and no one will expect him to beat Jackson. I think the bigger problem is in the amount of press promotion he’ll lose. It’s going to be tough to get any press going against Jackson’s single.

    Hey, I comfort people’ ¦

Triple Frakk – LOL! Never been a fantard let alone a failing Adamal locked in the hypothetical basement of mj’s with padded walls before. Jeesh!

    Updated:

All of us need to find a more productive way to wait out this period. Any one have any ideas?

    We need daily “post lectures” by Q3 and Susan M;

    Then we need Sunn to post from the Black Swan at 30 minutes intervals;

ETA: add halfie for snark at 15 minute intervals. scratch that – purported employee of 19

And suebrody will be the thread cheerleader and be ready at a moments notice to toss those pom poms in the air and re-energize the positive in the thread as needed.

CindyM will be the resident comfort giver to the fevered brow of the Adamals.

Ummm… but do we know “this man’s” location despite this guy, if not because of him??

  531. I don’t think SNL producers make their decisions based on where an Idol placed. If SNL wants Adam over Kris, they’ll get Adam. Kris fans can screan and holler all they want.

And Adam would be great in that gig! I’m still secretly hoping they’d have him as a music guest, and then let him appear in a skit spoofing idol, especially with so much idol news lately (Paula leaving, Ellen joining – so much goodness to make fun of).

    LA according to his twitter.

  537. Wow, over 600 posts. Sorry mj. It must be such a pain for you. This has been typical of Adam since the beginning of the season. Buzz, buzz buzz from every corner of the industry, and every blog site. I don’t know why Adam fans frequent the internet more than the other contestants. Danny started out with more people on AI site, then Adam fans and posts just skyrocketed. Adam fans are so verbose.

Can you imagine when we get a leak of one of Adam’s songs? Can you imagine if we get an entire song?

  538. You mean you didn’t read all 600 comments, adamland?? What kind of fan did you say you were again’ ¦.??

It took me all afternoon to catch up and do some other RL chores around the house. That’ll teach me to take my cat to the vet! LOL!

  544. So on a day when I’m recovering from baby-catching, working and living RL, mj devotes an entire thread to us, the newly formed Adamals? Yes I really like that term! Mj, you rock. You know what we want (over 600 comments? Are we obsessed enough yet?). What a clever way to keep the Adam freaks out of the headlines thread! I’m going to attempt to catch up on this thread in another window, but if anyone feels like giving me a quick re-cap of the highlights of the day, I’ll take it.

  545. Adamland

You were just waiting for the opportunity to use that phrase weren’t you?

    Yep. LOL.

  546. To take my mind off my Adam panic attacks, I’ve been listening to some good music. I checked out a little know, but historically important album by a band called the International Submarine Band. This was recorded in July and November 1967. The band was originally Boston-based, put together by a Harvard kid who dropped out after one semester in 1965 because he was more interested in LSD and chasing women. The album is historically important because it’s widely considered to be the very first country rock album. Imagine — country-rock invented in Boston by a Harvard man. Go figure. Stranger than fiction, huh?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3cToJxub3c

And a live version of Luxury Liner from Gram Parson’s partner Emmylou Harris. This one features British guitar wiz Albert Lee, who replaced Elvis guitar player Jame Burton in Emmylou’s band. This is some serious strumming:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zp4lgizEHkM

With any luck, Adam will put a little country rock on his album. Maybe a duet with Loretta Lynn like this one:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VuC_l3ymXhM

Whatdya think? More Johnny Cash from Adam? Folsom Prison Blues? A Boy Named Sue? Should he move to Nashville like Jack White?
