  1. The Realite interview is pure gold. I love hearing Adam talk about the music. Gonna go listen to the other interview now….thanks MJ, even though I should be in bed…..

  2. I love all the talk about MUSIC. Very interesting and I find it reassuring that Adam knew that Soaked WAS a bit Broadway and bit too theatrical. If he didn’t, I would be worried. I actually am not as fond of it as I would like to be for that reason. Adam’s talking about it, like first the ZOMG! MUSE SONG! and doing it and then hearing it going ‘hmmmm, maybe a bit too theatrical,’ was my reaction to it.

And also besides all the great music talk (though I would have liked to have heard about working with Rivers) was Adama stopping himself from actually saying all of ‘you don’t get it,’ and ‘it’s not the deep.’ Like he was trying to stop himself from saying it. You’re getting there Adam! Learning curve, you have on. Thank goodness!

  3. I like both interviews but love the interplay between Adam and the Sirus dude. Like the whole “sheet drag” Soaked references especially the nod to the middle eastern influence on that song.

My husband has seen Muse perform live several times and he likens Matt Bellamy and the boys to Queen for sheer theatricality of their stuff – esp live. So the tone of Soaked didn’t surprise me at all. I have to say though it wasn’t one of my favorites out of the gate, but day by day it has worn me down – the vocal is just so stunning.

Lots of great MUSIC based goodness in both these interviews. Let the games begin! :-)

  4. I love Soaked. There are 2 songs on the CD I’m not crazy about but not sayin’ which ones cuz I need to listen again, might change my mind.

The Adam roller coaster has been exhausting this past week. I think FYE jinxed him, what’s that line something about it’s gonna get rough… Self fulfilling prophecy! Maybe he should sing about angels and teddy bears :)

  5. I loved both of these interviews and really enjoyed hearing Adam talk about the music.

  6. I think FYE jinxed him, what’s that line something about it’s gonna get rough

before he moves totally on from FYE, he should get the video more out there, so that that will be wherever the casual googler or youtuber happens to land, and that version can compete in peoples minds with the AMA one. Not necessarily promote it, just let it be everywhere, while he goes through this wholesome boy penance

    THIS^

I think the video for FYE really rocks and i hope it gets more exposure.

About the interviews- love both of them.
I love the way Slezak is able to get him to feel comfortable enough to answer the harder questions without getting defensive. I think he’s an excellent interviewer in that way.
I was just a little disappointed that it wasn’t exactly TRACK to TRACK. Two of my favourites were missing- Sure Fire Winners and Pick U Up… like someone before me posted- I’d love to know how the writing process of PUU went.
The sirus interview was great in that it was positive and fun- the interviewer is obviously nuts about Adam :-)

  8. I may have to skip the the View interview. They are going to talk about the AMAs and I am SO over that. I want them to talk about his songs, his clothes, his hair!! The things his fans really care about! :-)

Love his interviews above. He is so articulate, charming and witty. My favorites seem to change between Music Again, Pick U Up, and Sure Fire Winners.

  9. My favorites seem to change depending on what I am doing.

Soaked and Loaded Smile are great with a glass of wine while cooking dinner. The beginning of Loaded Smile so reminds me of Sade for some reason.

Sure Fire Winners, Fever and Music Again are great songs to listen to on the train (although the funny looks as you shimmy on the platform are a bit disconcerting at times).

The whole album is on ipod rotation when I am driving supplimented by my AI favorites of Feeling Good; Ring of Fire and A change is gonna come…

Even put it on while driving home from a night out and my (very picky musically minded) husband became a captive Adam audience and actually didn’t mind at all. Really liked the middle eastern influences on Soaked, but then he also loves Adam’s Ring of Fire.

Is so nice to be talking about the “MUSIC again” – From now on my response to any reference to AMA and surrounding hoopla is going to be fingers in my ears and la la la la la la la la (or the comment equivalent) :-)

  10. Slezak does it again, no one is better at getting good interviews from the idols (sorry Jim).
Personally Music Again has always been my favorite track so I’m curious to see if they will release it as a single.

  11. Where is Lyndsey? I thought she was in NY. Surprised she didn’t get an interview with Adam also while he was in NY.

  12. Lovvvved the interviews…..it is time to move on from the AMA bullshit. I agree with others that the FYE video needs to get out there, it’s a great video and a super fun song! I sooooo enjoy people that share their learning & growth from their life experiences…….rock on Adam!

  13. was Adama stopping himself from actually saying all of ‘you don’t get it,’ and ‘it’s not the deep.’ Like he was trying to stop himself from saying it. You’re getting there Adam! Learning curve, you have on. Thank goodness!

That’s encouraging! LOL. It’s offputting when he says those things.

  14. The View? He can handle it!

Only Adam could make me watch that show.

  15. When is Adam going to be on the View? New week it’s Barbara Walters.

  16. I am so glad I took the time to listen to this interview with Michael Slezak…. I love his interviews! I think I really get Adam now….and am anxious to go back and re-listen to all the songs on the album.(with intention!!)
I turn to music to sooth my soul and sometimes to change my mood. This album does that constantly….each track brings another mood! I love it!

I am so ready for the AMA debacle to be over with……I think Adam learned a lot from it ….and so, as in life, the incident was not wasted!

Thanks Mj for posting this……I think from all the posting *angst* read here this last week…it was a much needed read! Pix

  17. I may have to skip the the View interview. They are going to talk about the AMAs and I am SO over that. I want them to talk about his songs, his clothes, his hair!! The things his fans really care about!

Well, I recommend skipping the View on a daily basis. I can’t watch that show. Even when there’s a guest that I’m interested in. Hasselback makes me stabby.

I enjoy watching Adam’s video interviews. He’s got such an expressive face. He really does entertain me.

Actually, I think that a lot myself as I watch some of these interviews/read certain articles. lol That never bothered me when he said it. Its funny what stuff bothers some people and others could careless.

  19. Well, I recommend skipping the View on a daily basis. I can’t watch that show. Even when there’s a guest that I’m interested in. Hasselback makes me stabby.

yeah. I can’t watch The View either. I hope they let Adam sing. They harp on the unimportant stuff way too much. But as long as Whoopi and Joy are there it should be at least even as far as the questions. Barbara won’t let them bash him too much I’m sure. :)

  20. Loved the interviews—thanks MJ! Slezak always does such a great job. I am kind of not surprised he didn’t get into PUU. It is one of my favorites on the album, but for some unknown reason Slezak is not the biggest fan. I adore Soaked—one of the best vocals ever. And I do think Music Again should be a single, it’s awesome on so many levels.

Adam is about the only person who could ever get me to tune into The View.

  21. I LOVE Soaked. But then again, I’m a theatre geek, and am still in awe of Liza Minnelli’s talent (her version of “Maybe this time” in Cabaret kills me), so it figures…
Come to think about it, the only thing that bothers me about Soaked is the radical “volume change” (for lack of better term- I don’t know how to call it), the instrumental part is really loud, but then when you turn it down, you can’t hear his voice AT ALL, so you have to keep playing with the volume instead of just laying back and listening…

ETA: Oh, and it seems that Soaked has also recieved the best reviews by the various critics I’ve read so far… so I feel validated, hee hee
(For the record- I think Broken Open is the best track on there, but the best vocals go to Soaked and Sure Fire Winners)

  22. Yay, what a great way to get the day started!

Have to admit – when I heard the 30 second spots I was sad, but now that I have the album – love every single song. Listened to it with the hubster on Friday a few times while we worked in the kitchen – he likes a lot more of it than I had figured he would. So I was able to make my decision on how many CDs to buy – have to get 4 now! One for my Jeep, one for his Jeep, one for in the house, and one to remain unwrapped forever!

What makes me happy is that it’s a sing-along album. I was afraid it wasn’t going to be, and that’s what makes for a good song for me. But I’ve got to do a lot of exercising before I’d even be able to come CLOSE on that bridge in PUU… (pant, pant)

  23. before he moves totally on from FYE, he should get the video more out there, so that that will be wherever the casual googler or youtuber happens to land, and that version can compete in peoples minds with the AMA one. Not necessarily promote it, just let it be everywhere, while he goes through this wholesome boy penance

I wonder whether they aren’t going to save it for the international release.

  24. What!? The interview with Ellen’s up already???
But but but… I’m still at work!!! I can’t watch it yet!!!

    Oh Boohoo :-(

  25. what is it about adam that i never get tired of watching and listening to him talk, sing, whatever he does..i just love him!

  26. Can someone please ask Adam about PUU and Sleepwalker next time? Especially PUU. Love it!

  27. Can we find another acronym for pick u up? Every time I see PUU I think of a bad smell….but I love the song!

  28. Can we find another acronym for pick u up? Every time I see PUU I think of a bad smell’ ¦.

LOL Maybe that’s why Slezak doesn’t like the song? Didn’t he say something about a bad smell under the dinner table in his track-by-track review?! ;)

ETA: BTW, I LOVE Pick U Up. It’s one of my favorites.

  29. *

Sorry if this is OT since we don’t want to talk about AMAs but this is really funny and cute. Jay Leno talking about Adam’s kiss.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oz1OUfpReiQ&feature=player_embedded

Wow, Jay’s writers did a great job with that. …. Funny, charming. … And more positive publicity that didn’t even note that Adam was from American Idol. Couldn’t get much better, if you ask me.

  30. Incredible interviews, both of them – interesting, informative, insightful. Michael Slezak’s interviews with Adam are always personal favorites, but Adam’s Sirius interview with Larry Flick on OutQ is absolutely fantastic. Flick’s done his homework. His questions and follow up are refreshingly literate and unique. Such a welcome change from the superficial crap spewed on entertainment and so-called news programs. Always impressed by Adam’s candid and thoughtful responses.

  31. By the way, did anyone else get a little choked up when larry flick told adam that he wished someone like adam had been around when he was younger etc. I thought that whole discussion was such a nice compliment and seemed really heartfelt

  32. did anyone else get a little choked up when larry flick told adam that he wished someone like adam had been around when he was younger etc. I thought that whole discussion was such a nice compliment and seemed really heartfelt

Definitely heartfelt. I heard excerpts from an old interview Flick did with Adam. Does anyone know if the entire older interview is somewhere floating around in cyberspace?

The Jay Leno piece was very funny yet in a way kind of saying what’s the fuss. Love the Slezak interview and the Sirus interview. I so glad that we are talking about “Music Again” By the way have I mention how much I love the Album. I also wish that we could purchase the MV of fye from Ituens. I thought we would get it today.

  34. Thanks, MJ, for these great interviews with Adam. I thought Slezak’s interview gave us some interesting information on Adam’s process of doing his songs. And the Sirius interview was so fun and open…really enjoyed it.

Adam is such a pleasure to watch and listen to!

  35. Slezak’s interview was really good, but he missed a couple of songs (like PUU, Sleepwalker, and IICY) that I would have loved to hear them talk about (I thought he would go track by track). But it was comprehensive, and clearly Slezak had done his homework and was a fan. The interview with Larry Flick made me want to cry. Adam was so candid w/ Flick (who is very appreciative of tweets, BTW: @larryflick) and it was great to hear. Ellen’s interview sort of disappointed me, b/c I thought it would be longer and we had to go into AMAs and GMA again. That said, I think Adam has sort of reconsidered his stand on the issue, w/out apologizing (he should NEVER apologize, IMO). And he just gets better singing WWFM, which continues to take on meaning. I hope we can just move on and hear his beautiful voice and his music. The album is amazing and I hope it continues to sell well. I know the album been criticized (by EW, for example) for not being consistent. I disagree. There is a continuity w/in it, while he explores all sorts of genres, the way he did on Idol. He’s right, too, as he said with Slezak: it’s typical for mp3 buyers to just download tracks they like, to make their own setlist, and you can certainly do that with this album. But he puts his own spin on every single song, and that’s why I think it’s so great.

  36. Both interviews are great. Thank you very much, mj.
I am such a crying baby; got choked up during Larry Flick’ s interview and cried when adam was talking about his heart and soul on Broken Open.
Now that we are going to talk about Music, I’m very happy with that. I’ve been staying out of the kitchen for a while because I couldn’t stand the heat.
The great thing about this album is our favouites change back and forth and depends on our moods. It’s a good thing to me. It means all of the songs are good and they are for everybody’s taste and mood. Like my experience of Thanksgiving Day here in the States, there were 5 delicious pies for me to choose. I went for the traditon of pumkin pie first and ended with the eggnog pie. They all were wonderful.
Back to the music- I’ll post more later. People usually skip a long post ranting like this one.
My absolute favourite song right now is “A LOADED SMILE”.
It’s the sexiest song and up above the next level of other songs that caught me before. It’s a gem hidden that I didn’t get it right away.
One night, in bed, with ipod and earphones on, I experienced an out of this world with A Loaded Smile that I’ll post later. The hint is 20 minutes of Ravel’s Borelo and A Loaded Smile. I reached for a cigarette and then realised I didn’t smoke. Just got up and had a glass of wine and chilled more oysters in case I got lucky again. :)

  37. What a great morning. Love the interview with Michael.. his mom saying “come to momma” was funny.

I really loved the interview on the radio show. Funny, intimate, emotional…and fun…great interview.

Sounds great on Ellen. And thank you to the people who keep us updated. One of the great things about Mj’s. That hug…so sweet.

My husbands loves WWFM. This is significant only because he is not an Adam junkie and is judging the CD for music value only. I quote, “Wow, there really isn’t a bad song on there.”

  38. Would love to get Adam’s reaction to the Leno bit. You know that you have made it when Leno is spoofing you. I agree, it was not mean spirited at all–just hilarious. Excellent radio interview. I saw part of it on popeater, when Adam was talking about his ugly duckling issues of the past. His facial expression is so genuine when he is sharing these intimate details. Check out MJ’s thread about the Ellen performance–my favorite WWFM of all!
