Adam Lambert – E! True Hollywood Story

The Adam Lambert E! True Hollywood Story debuts tonight at 9 pm. Chat about the special here, and eventually I’ll add any video that appears.

Friends, family and Adam himself talk to the E! cameras. The promos look pretty candid, so I expect there will be some good stuff.

  1. OMG! I think I am first. I am so excited and looking forward to this show.

  2. This is like being a kid again and waiting to open a present on Christmas Day.

  3. I’M SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (sorry for the exuberance, but my 10 year old told me how many exclamation points to type! lol)

    Going to watch the show!

edit: geez, need to check my spelling skills!

  4. I have to wait 3 more hours! Boo. :( I was at the San Diego show so I hope they show some of that. They were definitely filming. Enjoy you guys.

    OMG Home videos

Imagine what kind of goodies we have to look forward to, if Leila would be willing to share.

  6. Hi everybody! This is so much fun – thanks mj! Adam has the coolest parents evuh :)

  7. Would you guys watch with the non-fan-since-Idol in mind? In other words, as if you didn’t know what he’s been up to since Idol or the dreaded award show. Hope it get more people interested in him. Maybe even a little album sales bump.

  8. TexasWannaHoldEm:

Adam’s horrible at math & science – just like me!

    But can you sing? :D

  9. Would you guys watch with the non-fan-since-Idol in mind? In other words, as if you didn’t know what he’s been up to since Idol or the dreaded award show. Hope it get more people interested in him. Maybe even a little album sales bump.

    I’m so hoping for this.

  10. Ooh, after the commercial we get to see the metamorphosis. He was such a sweet, vulnerable young man. Really cool to hear Danielle and Scarlett. Maybe Lee too?

  11. so the first time wasn’t fireworks.

    Is it ever??

    LOL omg love him

    Me too!!!

  12. ohh I am so loving this. that woman crying!!! OMG

This is really good, even if we know it all already.

  13. The story is great so far, love getting a chance to see some of the people closet to Adam, talking about him.

Smeggs – are you getting this on the West Coast already?

    No watching a stream

  15. Yep, it’s sad that Adam’s parents split, because they seem like the coolest, most amazing parents. At least they are friends. :)

  16. I’m watching a stream too, but it keeps shutting off. What I have seen though, is really, really good. It must feel weird for him to have felt so isolated and lonely..and now to have so many people that love him so much.

  17. Smeggs – a stream, huh OIC. No stream for me. I’m off to watch my 3rd episode of the most current season of the Tudors. All I can keep thinking is how Adam would have loved the outfits and all wear the big rings they wear on all their fingers. He would have fit right in….except the gay thing. lol

  18. baebae – I can’t sing, but I play a mean piano! (move over, uh-huh girl :) )

  19. It must really feel so surreal to him now, he’s overseas on a world tour and his life story is being played on E in the States.

  20. Adam is so amazingly gracious. I love that. It’s really validating to watch this special and hear all of those things that as a fan you can totally relate to.

  21. Adam Lambert? E Hollywood story? Is this a one hit wonders special?

  22. Aww, Randy’s supporting Adam “bold performance”. All of a sudden I like Randy more!

Must be doing something right, because your obviously interested in it.

Adam Lambert? E Hollywood story? Is this a one hit wonders special?

Well 2 hits but gotta give em credit for spreading Adam’s 15 minutes of fame over an hour ;)

  26. This is a pretty interesting portrait of Adam. A little bit of manipulation in some of the facts (ex- the photos of Him and Brad came out Top 11 week, not “in last weeks of show”), and I don’t like the way they presented the “conspiracy theory” because the cray crays could run with some of that, esp. Neil’s comment — although thankfully, Adam laughs it off. But overall, this is a decent presentation of Adam’s story.

  27. OMG>……this is so so good!!! I’m really impressed so far. He looks so poised. :-)

  28. So far I am very impressed with how well this is all portrayed. Even though I know most of what I’ve seen, the perspective it is presented is very refreshing. I am really feeling it! :)

Aww, Randy’s supporting Adam “bold performance”. All of a sudden I like Randy more!

I have to give it to Randy and Paula, both were on board with him from the beginning.

  30. I agree with Carmit – controversy has worked in Adam’s favor!

  31. Okay, I’m a post ho…. I’ve been looking forward to this soooo much :)

  32. oh my goodness! This is the best special. It’s showing people why his fans love him and it’s all good! I’m watching with my daughters, and I like to think that Adam has really taught us (my daughters and I) some valuable life lessons!

I feel like I did during his Idol run. All amazed and excited and thrilled.

lol on the conspiracy thing. Adam keeps it real. :)

  33. ex- the photos of Him and Brad came out Top 11 week, not “in last weeks of show”),

Considering when Idol actually starts, with the audition rounds, wouldn’t it be considered in the later weeks than the earlier weeks?

  34. Dang! I was in a state of euphoria and then Kendra’s face came on, lol.

  35. The pictures came out the week before he sang “Black or White” – early in the televised part of the season, I guess.

  36. now I’m going to watch the youtubes since the stream wasn’t really clear. ;-)

  37. That was soooo good! But, I thought I hit the record button but it did NOT record! :( FML!

Yeah I didn’t like that either. I’m a fan of both Adam and Kris and I was kind of afraid of how they would handle the Idol thing. I have to say I’m disappointed that it seems like they discount Kris. But oh well. I did like how Adam handled it.

  39. Ooo, that was good.

I love Neil’s line “Millions of women would give anything to touch his arm, and I’m like ‘What??’ ” LOL

  40. Monte is very nice looking. I never got that in his pictures.

The show is over and my 15 year old is taking the computer to finish her essay.

I just want to say that I adore Adam. I wish him much success!

MJ: Thank you for the post! :) That was really fun to watch!

  41. That was frikken awesome

    YES!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, the computer no longer belongs to me! Have fun y’all!

  42. Yeah, the pictures were out there earlier, but it was later in the show that the media started running with it, and the is he or isn’t he started to become headlines excessively.

  43. That was a really good 60-minute synopsis of Adam’s history. I think I’m gonna have to watch it again, right now :)

Sagi, I’m really sorry your recorder didn’t work. I had recorded all of AI8 and my DVR died – I was just sick that I lost that. Now my kids tease me that I have all Adam’s appearances on Leno, Ellen, Oprah, even BWE protected on our DVR. Oh well, one of the benefits of being Mom :)

  44. That was fantastic! He came across really really well. Which I knew he would, but you never know what these shows will do with the more controversial stuff. And it was great to hear so much from his family and friends.

I missed a lot of the first half because the first stream wasn’t so good, but the second stream was great. I can’t believe the youtubes are already up! Have to go watch. :-)

My biggest quibble with it factually is that they said he was charged with simple battery in the pap case and that charges are still pending. Wrong. He was accused by the pap but never officially charged.

  45. (ex- the photos of Him and Brad came out Top 11 week, not “in last weeks of show”)

Didn’t some of the drag photos come out later?? I’m thinking of the pink dress ones, the blue pictures and the purple lipstick photos.

  46. OMG…I just watched parts 1 and 2 on utube and they were so great.

  47. LOL! I can’t believe it’s already on youtube.

Gotta love his fans. They’re very prompt and thorough. haha!

  48. Hello…back from Paris…not sure if I should bother with re-cap. The thread is dead. Maybe on a night where there is no GN show. Trying to catch up on posts, e-mails, etc.

What a great show! Nothing we haven’t heard before (loved the home videos, though)…but just wonderful to re-live his experience again. Wonder if we’ll get numbers on whether this was a much watched show?

I don’t think they discounted Kris, they just moved on to the rest of Adam’s story. Randy did say how Kris made a move in the final two weeks that may have helped him win. I never thought they would say much about Kris, except he and Adam were roomates and friends, plus that he won Idol.

Well 2 hits but gotta give em credit for spreading Adam’s 15 minutes of fame over an hour ;)

haha smeggs — good one. Love it.

  51. Okay, I just went downstairs to the slow moving computer.

I wanted to add above that my daughter has her priorities straight, watch the Adam E True Hollywood Story, and then do her essay.

No one needs to lecture me however. My girl is an honor student. :)

  52. Would have been nice if the producers had done this show without feeling the need to make a couple of jabs about Kris, but other than that mild complaint, this was a nice piece on Adam. I liked the first part of the show better since it talked about how he got started and about how his personality and style evolved.

  53. Well, that was really fun! Nothing new to us , who know him so well. But, I’m just glad that they didn’t show those pictures that aren’t flattering anymore. The ones we have all seen, drag, kissing men, whatever. Too much on the AMA’s though, IMO. Would have liked some more Glamnation footage.

But, Randy gave him a lot of kudos. Reallllly funny to see the older fan briefly, her name was onscreen, Donna. I was talking with her in Rockford and Peoria a lot. She’s really nice, and travels to see Adam everywhere. And, yes, she was in Hawaii too!

The vocal coach who was crying was super sweet, and yes, brought a tear to my eye too!

  54. I actually expected Suz to be in the special when Adam talked about recognizing certain fans. I wonder if she was there????

  55. This was so good. I was grinning from ear to ear the whole time. I loved seeing his family and friends talk about him the best.

  56. The vocal coach who was crying was super sweet, and yes, brought a tear to my eye too!

He has really touched so many people. It’s pretty amazing.

  57. iluvai – I think your daughter’s priorities are great. Enjoy a great show with her mom, then do her homework :)

  58. Welcome back luval! Before you do anything else, watch PH/WLL from Cologne and Amsterdam. Must see those. Then, whenever you can, recaps honey! :)

  59. I was shocked to see “J” in a still picture towards the end! She has the tattoo of Adam on her right shoulder … and was at The Keg dinner and went out with me on Halloween. You might have missed it if you blinked though. :-)

  60. I recording this on the wrong TV. Does anyone have the other times this will be on E!? I can’t seem to find the other episodes.

  61. haha Ron…talk to you tomorrow night!!!!

Was very happy they showed the fans and their reaction to Adam. And the comments from them were terrific. He is an international superstar! Oh, and I loved that they said earlier in the show 1,000,000 records sold so far worldwide!!!

edit: Ron…I saw “J” too!!! Wonder if she knew she’d be on?
edit: mils….I watched them! OMG WLL Cologne was amazing!

  62. iluvai – I think your daughter’s priorities are great. Enjoy a great show with her mom, then do her homework :)

Thanks! That’s sweet. No one will want to wake up for school tomorrow. So happy it’s a holiday week!

  63. Yeah, when the heck did he sell a million records????? That’s news to me (ummmmm, great news!).

  64. I just watched part 1. I loved all of the home videos from the early years. Adorable!

  65. Well, it seems like E got it right, even among us hardcore fans. We’re not an easy group to please! I would have loved to have seen more of Neil, actually. And a little more singing. But, this wasn’t Behind the Music, it was E THS.

  66. You guys. When his vocal teacher was crying about his performance of Mad World and talked about the lyrics being applicable to Adam, his feelings of not belonging and trying to fit in the world. I was in tears too. Sounds like young ADam really confided in her and she was very important to him. “I want to sing out my feelings” awwww.

ETA: Glad it’s on the acoustic EP now.

  67. Adam was what I call an “edible” baby. So cute you could just yum him up. Wow, who knew he was such a genius. He is genius, no doubt.

  68. VH1Top20

We can’t wait to watch RT @RCAPromo Hey, anyone else notice what’s on E! @eonline right now??? :) @adamlambert 3 minutes ago via web

  69. iluvai – that was a million records worldwide.

I have 3 kids too, and I appreciated your comments about Adam giving you and your kids a reason to talk about some things. Just yesterday – warning, proud mom moment coming up – my 13-year old son told me someone he knows is gay. Then he said “But why should that matter?” OMG – maybe they do listen :)

  70. Mils…Donna was at the Paris show….front row! Didn’t get to talk to her. Will probably do my recap in parts….like you did.

  71. I loved Eber referring to Adam as an “evil baby”, lol. My first had colic too – I think I cried as much as he did!

  72. This is just so awesome!! I know I keep saying that but it is / was!
His singing out his feelings, the teacher crying, his laughing at losing his virginity. I love that he emphasizes it was to a man and not a woman. :-)

  73. Texas, my kids are older , 16 and 19, I’ve always been open with them about many issues, including sexuality, and being an Adam fan has prompted even more discussions this year. I’m so proud of my kids too when I hear them being open-minded and non-judgmental.

  74. TexasWannaHoldEm: I think it’s wonderful that the younger generation gets it. My oldest grandson thinks it not right that I cannot marry the woman I’ve been with for 27 years. To him there is no difference. I’m so proud of Adam and the example he’s setting for so many young children both gay, straight, etc. Tonight was another big milestone on his wonderful journey. I’m glad to be along for the ride. And it’s only just begun.

  75. Just watched part 2. Loved hearing about and seeing his transformation during Hair. And the quip about losing his virginity — too funny! God he is adorable.

  76. luval, she was front row at every show I was at, hands on the stage.

  77. overall a pretty accurate account of Adam’s back story…although I do wish that lady would have left out the comment about KA’s album. Kris is a friend of Adam’s and there is no need to bash him in order to make Adam seem more successful. Also, I wish they wouldn’t have used so many combinations of shots with different ppl almost talking over each other. They could have edited that a little better although it was only an hour long show w commercials in between.
Adam was his usual very articulate self, always a pleasure to hear him speak, just wish he would ease up a little on the make up though. I really liked the open ending though and the interviews albeit short w his family members were nice and I agree w the poster that said Monte looked much better here and that pictures don’t do him justice. I hope the show will get good ratings.

Aww, Randy’s supporting Adam “bold performance”. All of a sudden I like Randy more!

    ITA!!

  78. This was a pretty fair and balanced story about Adam, and I loved seeing his early family pics! Would have liked to see more clips of his singing, but time was too short, I presume. Loved that they showed so many of his different “looks”!!!

  79. rainbowgal – it’s a long process, but I truly think Adam is, whether he intends to or not, making progress for everyone. I know he’s really opened my eyes and, IMO, made me a better person.

  80. iluvai – that was a million records worldwide.

You deserve the proud mom moment! :) The whole issue has become front and center for my family, thanks to Adam. :) My oldest daughter is in a very large highschool, so she sees a lot. She’s very open-minded and tolerant. I’m proud of that!

  81. I just have to say, Barry “Fricken” Weiss, CEO of RCA Music Group and Rob Cavallo, Chairman of Warner Brothers, taking the time to talk to E! about Adam and say such positive things, I love it.

  82. Ha Ha, iluvai, he still is edible! Naughty, naughty!

Oh yeah! In a grown up way! :) His mom must despise us all! :)

    hee hee!

  83. A wonderful night in the world of Adam Lambert.

    I’m not watching the AMA’s.

  84. Really good show :-) It was a really positive show and told how Adam’s been working toward his career as an artist for years. Just a really good show.

  85. I loved Eber referring to Adam as an “evil baby”, lol. My first had colic too – I think I cried as much as he did!

My lovely daugher, the 15 year old postponing her essay to watch Adam, had colic! I thought I would be divorced before her dad and I were ever married. Magically at 4 1/2 months old she just stopped crying. We got married when she was 10 months old!

Maybe colic = wicked smart! :)

  86. CindyM – ITA! The footage of Barry Weiss was incredible. What he said shows that he sees Adam as a real treasure.

  87. I just have to say, Barry “Fricken” Weiss, CEO of RCA Music Group and Rob Cavallo, Chairman of Warner Brothers, taking the time to talk to E! about Adam and say such positive things, I love it.

That was great! I hope MJ won’t want to puke her guts out for excited fans like me. I’ve really been trying to contain myself, but this special was just so awesome!

I recording this on the wrong TV. Does anyone have the other times this will be on E!? I can’t seem to find the other episodes.

You can also watch it tomorrow, Monday at 5PM. EST.

  89. MJ:

Can you change the pic of Adam’s mom above? She’s so gorgeous and she is posted up there with a terrible frown. :)

  90. iluvai – do you remember those books “What to Expect When You’re Expecting”, or “… the First Year”? Well, when our first was only a few weeks old and we’d been told the maniacal crying was caused by colic, I found my husband laying on the couch reading the “… the First Year” book and crying himself – the book said colic could last up to a year!!!! Colic = Insanity :)

  91. One thing I think could have been added was a little more about the extent of his international success and his gold and platinum certifications! Would have been a nice attribute to his success so far :)

  92. Wow, lot’s of things came to mind after watching that.

    1. Was Ann Powers ever on MTV as a correspondent? She looks VERY familiar to me, but looks like she lost weight.

    2. The vocal coach’s assessment of Mad World- SHE”S A GLAMBERT DAMNIT, lol.

    3. Too short- needs a part two.

    4. My son was colicky too, and was and is a very visual, musical, and creative kid- wonder if there is a connection?

    5. Hehe- Ron- I saw that lady with the Adam tattoo in Jersey. Wonder how many shows she has been to?

    6. Monte Pittman is the coolest and most laid back guy in the world.

    7. So glad they didn’t spend too much time on the AMA’s

    8. Wishe they would have spent more time on Glamnation.

    9. Found myself watching the clock to see how much time was left.

    10. Was left, as always, wanting more. I am an addict.

  93. E! did a fantastic job. Adam was his usual beautiful and articulating self. I am so proud of him for staying true to who he is. I love Allison and her WTF? Adam has a very bright future ahead of him and I am so grateful that he has the support of his label and management. I also want to thank his fans for their passionate and love for our boy!

  94. girlygirl
I liked the first part of the show better since it talked about how he got started and about how his personality and style evolved.

    Girlygirl
I loved that part he never really got to have a full conversation about it. I mean us fans who follow him pretty much knew most of it but it was peiced together from various sound bites from interviews.

  95. iluvai – do you remember those books “What to Expect When You’re Expecting”, or “… the First Year”? Well, when our first was only a few weeks old and we’d been told the maniacal crying was caused by colic, I found my husband laying on the couch reading the “… the First Year” book and crying himself – the book said colic could last up to a year!!!! We tried everything! And I read those books. It’s kind of funny now, 15 years later, but yeah…. Wow….

I imagine your baby must now be an amazing person though! That’s the good part. :)

I thought it was really cool those two took the time to say some nice things about Adam. I think Weiss knew from the moment they signed Adam, what a one of a kind singer and entertainer he is.

  97. iluvai – yeah, he’s turned out pretty good. Plays college football and is a Pre-Law student :)

  98. Dear G in Heaven! You are spot on woman! :)

Wow, lot’s of things came to mind after watching that.

  99. I think Adam’s voice teacher talking about Adam singing his emotions and her feelings when he sang Mad World really stole the show. You can really tell how much she loves Adam. Isn’t it amazing how he has touched so many people? He has so many gifts – singing is just one of many.

A wonderful night in the world of Adam Lambert.

    I’m not watching the AMA’s.

    It was a wonderful night.

Mils – I’m not watching the AMA’s either but @jambajim’s tweets are hilarious

  102. 9. Found myself watching the clock to see how much time was left.

That was the fastest hour ever! Felt like 5 minutes… I’m so happy for Leila and Eber. They must be so proud (of both of their awesome boys!). Also good that Neil can keep Adam in his place. What cute brothers!

I’m sure they don’t bicker about whether corn is made or grown, or cornbread is made or grown. I got to listen to that for 35 minutes today while driving in a car with 3 ornery kids!

  103. Thought that was a reasonably well-produced and fair treatment of Adam. They did spend some time on the negative things but not overly so. Nice PR boost with the EP coming out next week and heading into holiday shopping season. Too bad the GNT DVD won’t be ready before Christmas (I think the latest info is that it can be ordered before Xmas but won’t be delivered until after?)

Not watching the AMAs either. I think it was almost exactly a year ago right now that Adam was onstage.

  104. CindyM
    Oh this gif…
    http://i52.tinypic.com/2dlkriu.gif

Regarding the first shot of bb Adam in the pool … he was working on the concert tongue action, even then.

  105. sagi – I too was hoping they would mention the record of sold out shows along with the items you listed. But all in all a very good night for Adam. How interesting that this program aired opposite the AMA’s. It’s hard to believe that one year has passed.

  106. Girlygirl:

I don’t think E! meant to diss anyone. The point is is that Adam is not your typical talent. Adam is really an anomaly in the most amazing way.

  107. I really enjoyed this. I thought it gave a pretty good Idea of Adam but didn’t dwell to much on stuff like the AMAs. And it didn’t really make that sordid at all. And seeing him as a kid with his family and hearing his family and friends talk about him was great. I agree that it was too short. SOOOO much was left out! But I guess there is more for the next time! And of course Adam looked great too.

  108. When they announced who won that was a jaw dropping moment. And yet there’s no stopping the glitter train. It really doesn’t matter who won. Both of those men are doing just what they want to do and having fun while they are doing it.

  109. I really liked being able to hear Adam’s friends, Danielle, Allison and Scarlett talk about him. It was also great to hear Zodiac’s Carmit and Lee describe his journey. But, his theater teachers and coaches really touched my heart.

  110. his theater teachers and coaches really touched my heart.

    Ohhh me too!!!

  111. MJ thank you so much for posting the videos of theshow. You have become my #1 site for getting news about Adam;)

  112. Wonder if Adam and the troupe could see the program overseas? It was nice to see Brooke and Monte interviewed. Overall, quite pleased with the show.

Funny, my AT&T U-Verse advertised/described the content of the program about him being “raised Jewish”, but, they never discussed his religious upbringing in the program at all.

  113. I thought e did a great job. They definitely talked to all the right people. Nice to hear from the zodiac crew Barry Weiss rob cavallo Ann powers Vanessa grigoriadis Randy and Rickey. Only a few factual errors ( hey, that’s pretty good for e!). Overall well done! Nice puff piece for Adam!

  114. Anyway, great job E! I think they did a wonderful, balanced presentation of Adam’s life so far. I loved the comments from his teachers. It really brought home how far Adam has come in such a short time. We have been following him all along but it is awesome to see it presented all together like this. To see all those people who love him and why was just beautiful.

  115. Finally had a chance to watch—very nicely done. I could have watched another hour, lol. The vocal coach talking about MW (and those childhood home videos) stole the show.

  116. Would have been nice if the producers had done this show without feeling the need to make a couple of jabs about Kris, but other than that mild complaint, this was a nice piece on Adam.

Yeah, his friends seemed a little sourgrapes about it still. It reminds me that people actually still do care that he lost, even though he still ended up becoming so successful. Groan.

For me, I never think about it like that anymore. I see them both being successful and their fans loving them as much as ever, so what’s the big deal? They’re happy, the fans are happy. Why is it necessary to still throw subtle barbs at Kris and act like Adam was soooo robbed even though it probably did help him in some way?

Not trying to stir up conflict, I promise. :D Just minor venting. They weren’t insulting about him or anything, but still. I could do without it.

  117. That was AWESOME. I cried so much! What an amazing, talented, gorgeous, man!!!! :)

    10. Was left, as always, wanting more. I am an addict.

    lol ITA

Thanks for the post mj, and thanks to the people who put it on youtube and the ppl who posted the link here :)

He’s just an amazing human being and so lucky to be surrounded by people who love him. I loved all the people talking about him :) He seemed like such a creative, misunderstood, cool kid :)

    Everything about him is perfect…
    * I love Adam Lambert so f&king much!!! *

  118. Goodnight all, hope every enjoyed Adam’s story as much as I did. I can’t wait for the Acoustic album.

  119. Yeah, his friends seemed a little sourgrapes about it still. It reminds me that people actually still do care that he lost, even though he still ended up becoming so successful. Groan.

You know what…I’m pretty sure if the results had of been different, there would probably be some sour grapes Kris fans also.
But whatever…I’m just happy they are both doing something they love.

  120. Loved the entire THS. They showed a lot of respect to both Adam and Kris, who made such a wonderful Season 8 that we enjoyed so much!

  121. You know what…I’m pretty sure if the results had of been different, there would probably be some sour grapes Kris fans also.
But whatever…I’m just happy they are both doing something they love.

Oh, for sure. Either way, there would still have been plenty of whining to go around, ha!

I’m happy for them both as well and they will always be two of my favorite people from Idol. :)

  122. I thought the THS was terrific. It wasn’t really anything I didn’t already know about Adam, but it was presented nicely. I liked the interviews with his teachers too, especially the voice one, and the drama one with the flower that Adam made. I’m not sure if anyone noticed, but when they showed Adam at his homecoming, he was with his teacher and was holding the flower. And I loved what the teacher said about Mad World, it really was the perfect song for him.

Anyway, I agree, the only part I didn’t like was the part against Kris’s album. I did like that Randy said that Kris did gain momentum near the end. I’m really a fan of both of them. I’m glad the conspiracy theories were discounted.

I think that Adam has more freedom this way to do what he wanted on his album and tour. And I really think that if he had been the winner, and the AMA controversy occured, it would have been much more damaging to him. And I’m not saying that’s right, but just what I think might have happened.

  123. I was LMAO that they showed the ninja roll hahaha

OMG…Smegggs… I was watching the stream and was chatting online with some friends from Canada, UK and US on MSN. We were all laughing about the roll. We were like “did they really need to show the roll?” Omg…so funny.

  124. Love the THS on Adam but I have a question/concern. I thought the incident in Florida with the Paps guy was dropped already and no charges were filed. (In the THS it says he was charged with Simple Battery and its still pending) Also the AMA’s I thought the FCC said there was no charges going to be filed but in the THS it says that is still pending too. Does anyone else remember it the way I do or is the THS correct. Other then those two things I like it and the people who spoke on behalf of him. Adam not going anywhere any time soon. I guess his 15 min has been extend yet again. :-)

  125. Smeggingnuts:
    11/22/2010 at 1:31 am

Dhunken no charges were ever filed they got their facts wrong

Thats what I thought thanks Smeggs.

  126. Nice piece. It seemed like they were trying to capture the main themes and struggles of each stage of his life, as it related to his career, and I think it did that pretty well, considering there wasn’t time for depth: just a little intro and/or reminder of the highs and lows and question marks. I think it’s charming that friends who thought he should win as soon as he auditioned, still thought he should have won when it was over. And I think it’s super that the official history of the AMA performance issue is that it was risqué, because in my mind the issue was that it was artistically weak.

Slightly OT: upthread someone mentioned a tour DVD. Is that a for reals?

And thanks for the captures, MJ.

  127. I don’t know about the FCC though last I heard was that they hadn’t closed it…so their is stilloption for them to file charges. I hant heard that thedeclined to press charges. I think they still have the cse open/pending.

  128. Webster
Yeah most likely comeing out at the begining of the year…no definate release dates or anything. But Adam said they were working on it same with the RCA Mod on AO.

  129. I was legit crying while watching this (I know thats pathethic lol, but its just that amazing..:p)

It’s not pathetic. He’s awesome. We all want him as our best friend. :)

  130. That was really good! Aaaw, he and Neil were so adorable on those baby videos. And it’s nice to see Allison Iraheta too.

  131. I don’t know about the FCC though last I heard was that they hadn’t closed it…so their is stilloption for them to file charges. I hant heard that thedeclined to press charges. I think they still have the cse open/pending.

  132. That wasn’t long enough!! Thanks for the thread, MJ. Wanted more.
The last I heard the FCC said it was past primetime and therefore not doing anything about it. Aah, it’s been almost a year. Doubt that they’re going to anything about now. I’m in Miami and the last I heard about the pap incident on the local news was that the police were not pursuing the case. :)
My son’s BFF called him earlier to tell me that the AMAs were boring, so he was flipping channels and saw the E!Hollywood story about Adam and wanted to alert me. Uh, I think I had set my dvr about 2 weeks ago? :) It ended so abruptly with Kendra showing up on my screen. Don’t have anything against her, but what a killjoy that was!! :(

  133. cher – I felt the same way. I was waiting for the end of the program and then there she was. It wasn’t long enough. Like some said earlier he always leaves us wanting more.

  134. i wish he come with new style, new makeup, new song.i know hes theatrical, but enough now,i think he still think hes in zodiac show or in theater but real world is somethinng else.dosent daughtry do rock why adam cant doit.i dont like hes style now ,hes music like old disco club.

  135. E!Hollywood did a decent job, but one hour was definitely not enough. So much was skipped that could have been included.

Highlights for me were Adam’s teacher’s emotional reaction to “Mad World”, and the cute comments by Allison Iraheta (I would have shown about 20 seconds of their performance of “Slow ride” and the wild applause that followed it). Also, Randy seemed in awe of Adam from the get go.

I got two overall messages from the program: first, this guy Adam is really someone special; second, talent like Adam has comes along maybe once in a lifetime.

  136. I love Lyndsey Parker! Look what she tweeted:

AMAs were boring this year. If only a glamorous androgyne in guyliner & glitter had kissed a guy or something…that would’ve spiced it up.

  137. Overall it was a very nice special about Adam(but the insult to Kris’s album- which was an opinion and not a fact- and the conspiracy talk were completely unnecessary), even if some facts were wrong lol.

  138. I love the drama teacher saying: “Adam helped to create this… ” and looks at it in surprise and then sort of stutters “uh, prop, which is…. Oberons magic… uh, f-flower.” like he’s completely puzzled they had come up with something like Oberon’s magic flower. And then he kept it and showed it to the adult Adam backstage!

The last part got yanked before I had a chanse to see it. Did they skip Adam’s love life altogether, or was there anything about it in the last part? Like, how he hopes to find a one true love someday?

I got a feeling that THS was like, “ok, he’s gay, that’s interesting, but it would be too much to insinuate that he would have an actual normal lovelife.”

There was Adam saying that he would like to have a meaningful relationship in the future and that he can imagine himself being a father one day because he has some paternal feelings inside him, which was juxtaposited with him picking up and being cute with some little children. But no, nothing about actual love life.

BTW, if you go to ontheroofseekingproof.com, they have the entire thing, the same as youtubes, available for download in the interviews section.

(but the insult to Kris’s album- which was an opinion and not a fact- and the conspiracy talk were completely unnecessary),

I didn’t mind them talking about conspiracy theories because they treated them with sort of an eyeroll but rubbing Adam’s success against Kris’s lacked class, I agree.

  139. I got a feeling that THS was like, “ok, he’s gay, that’s interesting, but it would be too much to insinuate that he would have an actual normal lovelife.”

I thought it was nice that it was more about his career. And since Adam hasn’t really been public about his love life since Drake, what could they have said more without resorting to gossip?

I don’t really have an opinion one way or another on this – because it was a year ago and it simply doesn’t matter any more. Its history. Its hard to say what was left on the cutting room floor to ‘make a better story’.

  141. I loved it!
Monte has a sexy speaking voice hehehe
And I loved when his vocal teacher said that at the age of ten he didn´t want just to sing but to know how he can make the sound! And that´s why he´s so picth perfect, he really knows what he can do to sound like that!

  142. dosent daughtry do rock why adam cant doit.i dont like hes style now ,hes music like old disco club.

This is funny! If Adam went Daughtry I would think he had a brain tumor or something! :)

This is funny! If Adam went Daughtry I would think he had a brain tumor or something!

There is enough Daughtry immitators out there, we don’t need Adam to follow a pack of wannabees. He wouldn’t be the success he is, if he wasn’t being himself and being the unique artist he is.

  144. That was a pretty good effort by THS to present a balanced view of Adam so far. It was nice to hear from Adam’s family members and friends (although I’m sure that a LOT of editing was involved). I agree with those who object to the misinformation about charges regarding the paparazzi incident, but I think that the resolution of the FCC complaints is still pending. I remember reading that it took years before the Superbowl “wardrobe malfunction” issue to be resolved, so that part may be true.

Love, Love Monte, he’s a fantastic guitarist, great person and loyal friend. Thank goodness Adam had such a great vocal teacher who helped him not only with his voice, but the process it took to sing. It’s that understanding of his instrument and how it works that, is what makes him such a entralling live performing.

  146. Is that an actual TV shows that actual people watch?

It sounds like a spoof. I love the super-serious narration. Dude, it’s the life story of a minor pop star, not the history of nuclear weaponry.

  147. Sallysimmons, All E! True Hollywood Stories are like that. It’s kind of their signature. In fact, a lot of shows spoof their style. lol

  148. Haha it has the same ton as VH1 behind the music specials. Lol any Behind the *insert whatever here* has that same ton….lol its just TV

You crack me up. Yep, that is what Adam should aspire to.

Monte has a sexy speaking voice hehehe

I must say, I sorta started crushing on Monte, he’s cute! Never noticed that before!

Is that an actual TV shows that actual people watch?

Is that a rhetorical question? LOL!

  150. Good Morning. I loved it! I kinda giggled that they mentioned that Adam’s album has sold so much better than Kris’album and Kris won. I think the point there is just that he lost because he’s gay not that he wasn’t talented enough to win and go on to be a truly great performer. It’s sad but true, oh well! And I love that Adam moved passed it immediately. Plus, I definitely feel like he has had more freedom as #2 than he would have had wearing the “crown” so to speak. I would like to hear his thoughts on that subject though.

I do not think they had Leila in good makeup or good lighting for this. I have still still shots and footage of her that was much more flattering, JMHO! I thought Adam’s Dad looked a good bit like Adam in those older home movie clips!

Overall, loved it, plus I’ll take an hour of Adam anytime I can get it. Loved his makeup for the San Diego concert backstage stuff…just gorgeous!!!!!

  151. I had to watch this again. Adam is so wonderful. There is plenty more THS could have covered but I guess it is pretty significant we that we got a THS at all. They could have skipped the part about Adam outselling Kris so much but it is true and they probably wanted a lead in to the “conspiracy theory”, LOL! Jeez! I really hate that they brought that up again but Adam laughed it off. Overall so good and the red hair/freckles were adorable!

  152. It sounds like a spoof. I love the super-serious narration. Dude, it’s the life story of a minor pop star, not the history of nuclear weaponry.

    Okay, that was hilarious :D

I have to chime in with others who say the E True Hollywood stories are ALWAYS like that. Even when its about someone decidedly not serious or dignified, like the Hilton sisters or the cast of Jersey Shore. That’s just how they roll. LOL

Tuti, tell me again what it is you DO like about Adam?

  156. Kelly, Daughtry, and Carrie aren’t openly gay entertainers who are trying to swim against the tide of ultra conservatism that this country is so good at dishing out!

Isn’t it possible there are other valid reasons why Adam hasn’t sold as much as the Idol threesome? ;)The US is still the biggest market by far for Adam’s music so it’s not all a hot bed of homophobia.

This series is usually good shlocky fun.

It’s hard to sell the way Kelly, Daughtry and Carrie do, when your album has only been out one year. All of these people you mentioned has been out a lot longer than Adam and they have more than one album.

So, okay, you explain it to tuti then, she asked the question, I didn’t bring it up. And yes, the US is the biggest ultra conservative country in the world, you’re absolutely correct! BTW, that is my opinion, and on this website, I am entitled to voice it without criticism!

It sounds like a spoof. I love the super-serious narration. Dude, it’s the life story of a minor pop star, not the history of nuclear weaponry.

The US has a lot of minor pop stars, but this particular “minor pop star”, sold over a million albums and actually have people interested in him and his music.

  160. This is a boring argument but it has nothing to do with how long an album has been out. All of the three Idol superstars had a #1 album of the year. Adam’s album has been out long enough to determine he won’t come near to having the #1 album of 2010. He also won’t have a platinum album in the U.S. at this rate.

However, I don’t think Kelly, Daughtry or Carrie had an ETHS. So there’s that. ;)

  161. Isn’t it possible there are other valid reasons why Adam hasn’t sold as much as the Idol threesome. The US is still the biggest market by far for Adam’s music so I wouldn’t keep up this tired mantra.

Er, the US is the biggest market by far for Adam’s music simply because he was on American Idol and built a loyal decent-sized fanbase during the show. Homophobia still exists widely, and you are being naive if you think it is low on the list of barriers in the music industry. There is an evident lack of openly gay artists on US radio and there are hardly any openly gay young artists on major labels in the first place.

  162. However, I don’t think Kelly, Daughtry or Carrie had an ETHS. So there’s that.

jpfan, so what in your opinion is the criteria to get ETHS?

  163. jpfan:
Isn’t it possible there are other valid reasons why Adam hasn’t sold as much as the Idol threesome?

No. When radio stations spin his songs as much as the “idol threesome” and he is still not selling, then I would agree. Adam sells music DESPITE lack of airplay. He sold over 300,000 copies of FYE without any airplay- that says ALOT.

The US is still the biggest market by far for Adam’s music so it’s not all a hot bed of homophobia

He has sold the most here only because of the size of the country but he is far more popular in Canada and other countries where his music has gone double and triple platinum. It’s cool that you do not agree that homophobia isn’t at play here, but there are plenty of people who disagree with your opinion.

  164. I said there COULD be other reasons why FYE isn’t the #1 album of the year. Maybe less people like its genre or Idol has lost it’s mojo. Or, I don’t know, more people wanted to spend their $ on SuBo. ;)

  165. Thank-you MJ. It’s not going to be on Canadian TV until December (and I can’t wait to see it in HD) but it would have been awful to hear everyone talking about it this morning without having seen it myself.

Hey to luval – You did it! Recap maybe while we’re waiting for this afternoon’s performance?

Loved Neil’s surprise about women dying to touch Adam’s arm. Behind every great sex symbol stands at a mystified sibling. (Well, if they have one.)

Thanks to Smeggs for clearing up the paparrazzi mistake. I was temporarily freaked on that. Thought it was over.

BTW, IMHO you can’t compare Idol 1st year CD sales any more because fewer and fewer people are buying CD’s period.

True it’s a boring argument, but it don’t stop people from discussing it over and over again. As for having the #1 album of 2010, who ever said he would. If he does or don’t get a platinum album in the US, only time will tell. I can’t see RCA getting upset that by May of this year, he had already sold over one million worldwide. Also I think they also probably thought it was a plus for him to headline his own tour and then extend it overseas. The best part is he has enough success to get a second album and go on tour again. What more could any fan want for their favorite artist.

  167. TLKC…sent you an e-mail

Was waiting for Rob Cavallo to bring up 2012 theme song. Bet there’s loads of stuff they had to cut.

Sure, those are reasons not to buy someone’s album. but if you want an answer to a comparison of Adam to Kelly, Daughtry, and Carrie which is a comparison of huge talent to huge talent, then those reasons really don’t fly. Keep in mind, the Season 8 Idol tour did extremely well in a bad economy, gee why was that? It was Adam, no question. Anyway, I can only hope that Adam will realize the reward for what he gives in time when (I hope) more people become more accepting of that which is different. So many artists today are just carbon copies, nothing original, but safe for sure. Adam will never be that and that can be polarizing to a lot of people!

And yes, the US is the biggest ultra conservative country in the world, you’re absolutely correct!

This Canadian would just like to respectfully say that the United States, while not perfect, is one of the free-est countries in the world, which is why it was able to produce such a vibrant, free-spirited, in-your-face, young artist as Adam.

You guys are way too hard on yourselves.

  171. Just watched the special again, loved it more!! I love that Barry Weiss, CEO of RCA Music Group and Rob Cavallo (now chairman of Warner Brothers) had such positive things to say about Adam’s talent!! Made this fangirl happy that they took the time to participate in the special.

  172. I applaud any artist who can make an impact on the recording business. This is a cut-throat business and it chews up and spits out hundreds of singers every year. Any artist who makes it into some kind of relevancy is doing an amazing job.

All kinds of things impact how an artist sales; the least, seemingly, being how good their music is. There is no way to objectively compare any two artists…you can’t compare Elvis to MJ or the Beatles to Pink Floyd. Their sound is different, their audience is different, their timing is different, their PR is different, their lives are different…and to say that one is more popular than the other or more successful than the other is purely subjective. All I know is that great recording artists are able to have a lucrative and popular career that spans years instead of months.

Kelly, Carrie, and Daughtry have all proven that they have some staying power in the industry. They have had their hits and their misses but they have built up enough of a following to stay viable. That is every performers dream. Is Kelly better than Carrie, has the fact that Daughtry sold more debut albums than either made him King of the heap. I don’t think so. Each is a star in their own right.

In a few years we will know if Cook and Archie, Kris and Adam, Crystal and Lee are as successful as some of the earlier Idols. But they will garner their own fame based on their own individual set of parameters…and their success or failure won’t really impact the success of Kelly, Carrie, or Daughtry.

  173. While I would never make the claim that only homophobia is standing in Adam’s way (after all everyone has differing tastes)claiming that it isn’t a significant factor is fairly naive. There is over 330 million people in America, and over half still believe gays don’t deserve equal treatment under secular law, that we have no right to raise children, or are on the same level as pedophiles and rapists. Popular sports figures and musicians constantly throw out the use of gay centric slurs against those they don’t like, even politicians too.

Antigay behavior is still one of the few discriminatory behaviors not only ignored, but often condoned. Things are changing, but to assume it’s not an issue, or even a major problem is pure fantasy.

  174. Good morning. Day off today. How did I start it? Watched E THS again on my lovely DVR. So glad to be able to skip over commercials!

So, on another viewing, I’m still loving the childhood stuff best. The teachers, voice coach and home movies.

Overall, the show was a good overview of our BB, left me wanting more, as usual, and I’m glad they didn’t focus on past or current lovers. Kept it on the career. Good choice.

  175. You guys are way too hard on yourselves.

TLKC, until MY wonderful country whose #1 job is to protect its citizens does something to fix this major problem that causes it’s young people who are bullied because they are different (for whatever reason, gay certainly being a big one however) to the extent that they commit suicide, you can’t tell me that I am just being hard on America. Adam has great parents thank God, he lived in a place where he was able to fly under the radar until such time as he was better able to come to terms with his own sexuality and learn to be comfortable in his own skin. So many do not have that advantage. I hope it will get better, my children are getting ready to start their own families…….

  176. Hermeticallysealed. I agree. I am not gay. But am a strong supporter of gay rights, and take it to the polls. Teach my kids to be open minded and support equal rights for all people.

That being said, whenever discussing fandom for Adam, I can always hear people commenting on the same tired bullshit, “oh, but he’s gay.” My response is always, “So?” What does that have to do with talent? Or buying a CD? Or going to a concert? I usually add that we have been entertained by gay people all our lives, they just weren’t out like Adam is. My comeback is usually “Get over it.” But so many can’t. They just can’t. It is depressing, narrow minded, bigoted and hateful. I wish it were different. But, I’m hoping that someone like Adam can help change people’s perspectives.

100% agreed, and I hold my own country to a really tough standard, too. I just think that, in an tragically imperfect world, we are both lucky to live in countries that will allow us to push for change and express our views.

  178. What does Tuti want ? I think Rock Adam…. but not OTT…not too much Glitter and antics…
I am also not so in favor of “disco club Adam music”, even though I love his dance moves… Adam himself admitted in the Scotty Rocker interview that he will go more into the poprock than the dance pop…but sorry Tuti, as much as I want to have a pure Rock Adam, it is not going to happen in the near future…not enough people who are into it…He wants to buy his house…

  179. ITA, TLKC and MILS, thanks for your comments. Even my own husband is a homophobe, I just know it. He tries to hide it from me, but I know. I do think I am making in roads with him via my love for Adam, which he is definitely learning to respect. And this is rich, he will be attending the Y100 Jingle Ball with me and friends….HE HAS TO GO, HE CAN’T GET OUT OF IT!!!!!!! LOVE, LOVE LOVE IT!!!!!!! But really, I would love it just for him to enjoy him as an entertainer, that’s enough to start, and I will work on the rest!!!! We can change things, one person at a time!!

  180. Kelly, Daughtry, and Carrie aren’t openly gay entertainers who are trying to swim against the tide of ultra conservatism that this country is so good at dishing out!

I’m really tired of anyone who doesn’t like Adam’s type of music and over the top style being labeled anti-gay. Can’t his fans accept that for most people an artist’s sexual orientation has nothing to do with their appreciation of the art?

  181. but sorry Tuti, as much as I want to have a pure Rock Adam, it is not going to happen in the near future…not enough people who are into it…He wants to buy his house

….and how would he know that? He hasn’t even tried a pure Rock show.

  182. Just watched the Youtubes! Thank you for making them available. I loved hearing from so many of Adam’s friends, and then to have Barry Weiss and Rob Cavallo on it was a great boost as well. The producers were definitely trying to have one controversy per part (between commercials). The burning man drugs, the Kris win, the AMAs, the papparazo and you could tell the comments on all of those from family and friends were edited to leave in just the most controversial parts. But hey, it’s E! What do we expect and it brought us this great series. Go Adam!

  183. Planet, I gave up trying to “force” my husband to go to concerts with me. He’s not a homophobe, just doesn’t like concerts. As a result, I sold my ticket to Rockford to a new friend, and ended up having the best Holiday weekend ever. Met Adam. Met goatie, madnessinmotion, and mlg, got kidnapped and went to Peoria. Saw Adam again. Front row center baby!!

Long story short, sell your ticket to a fan if your hubby doesn’t want to go. You’ll have more fun, be with people who like what you like, and, it’s OK. You can have your “hobby” and he can have his!

Can’t his fans accept that for most people an artist’s sexual orientation has nothing to do with their appreciation of the art?

Can you even name 5 artists that are young, openly gay and male that are having any level of mainstream US success? I bet you can’t. I’m really tired of anyone who deny that bigotry toward gays exist, whether it’s US or elsewhere. When you do that, you choose not to see or acknowledge the fact that there are still people who are being killed for being gay. Why do you think someone like Ricky Martin purposely flat-out denied that he was gay in interviews and portrayed himself as heterosexual in his songs and music videos? Because if he came out early then that means his career would have been in jeopardy. If he in fact was known as a out gay man, he could not have released songs like“Living la Vida Loca” and “She Bangs”as those songs are about heterosexual desire – just look at his music videos.

  186. That was so awesome!!! This show was such a gift for his fans. Thank you MJ for posting the videos so the international fans can enjoy them.

For the record, there was a THS titled “American Idol: Girls Rule”, and it was about Kelly, Carrie and Fantasia (I believe right after the fourth season, when three out of the four winners were girls. I guess the girls don’t rule anymore, LOL).

  187. jpfan:

This is a boring argument but it has nothing to do with how long an album has been out. All of the three Idol superstars had a #1 album of the year. Adam’s album has been out long enough to determine he won’t come near to having the #1 album of 2010. He also won’t have a platinum album in the U.S. at this rate.
However, I don’t think Kelly, Daughtry or Carrie had an ETHS. So there’s that.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think Kelly, Daughtry or Carrie were ever on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine even before their first album had been released.

  188. OMG! These trashy tabloid shows can’t get enough of a flamboyant gay “celebrity”. The ONLY reason he’s on this is due to the controversy that he sparks by being so openly flamboyantly gay. Doesn’t that seem demeaning to anyone? If gays want equal treatment, then they MUST stop cooperating with trash tv like this to shove their sex lives in our faces.

Ha!!! absolutely love Suz’ sense of humor, too cute!!!!

  194. Planet Fierce – ITA agree about Leila’s lighting, camera angles, etc. not being flattering for her. She is a very beautiful woman – in fact, the videos we saw of her arriving at one of Adam’s outdoor California concerts this past summer (sorry, can’t remember which one :)), she looked like a movie star! Anyway, for those who haven’t seen much of Leila, she is truly much more beautiful than she looked on the show. I also think Adam has a strong resemblance to young Eber!

I really loved the special and think they did a wonderful job with the material they included. What ELSE do I wish they had included? I wish they had shown more of Adam’s magazine shots (Japan Rolling Stone, People Sexiest Man, etc), mentioned his Much Music award, shown more GNT footage (Strut would’ve been great – love the coat he wears in that), and maybe shown clips from FYE, WWFM and IIHY videos. I also wish they had introduced Sutan when they were showing backstage footage. My teenage daughter almost had a meltdown when I told her that Sutan was Adam’s makeup artist! Evidently, peeps who watch America’s Next Top Model are quite impressed with Sutan. :) All in all, I was smiling like a freak during the entire hour.

  195. Can’t his fans accept that for most people an artist’s sexual orientation has nothing to do with their appreciation of the art?

This is a generalization being applied to a specific question about why Adam doesn’t sell as well as Kelly, Daughtry and Carrie…does not deal with the issue.

Mils,if this was just an Adam concert, I would agree, didn’t take him to Hard Rock, there will be plenty of eye candy for him as well. We are the ones being invited to go as a couple, so it’s a must do. I think it is a good way for him to take a step forward and not feel like I am pushing him.

  196. oh I LOOOOVED IT!!!
loved the baby pictures too,soo Adorable.
    Neil is so hilarious:)

  197. Just keep in mind that there will be many shows produced highlighting Adams career as time goes on….more to look forward too!!

  198. Well for someone who said he didn’t want his sexuality to define his career, he sure as hell uses it all the time (and the media as well).

  199. Loved the THS. My only disappointment was that they showed Adam’s finale performance with KISS instead of QUEEN. That was truly phenomenal and Brian May was so complimentary after. I could also have done without some of the Kris mentions, which I thought were unnecessary to make the point about Adam deserving to win. It’s a popularity contest, ffs, and imho it reflected more anti-gay sentiment, although I think Kris is very talented in his own right and a decent guy, which Adam has continuously stated.

  200. OMG! These trashy tabloid shows can’t get enough of a flamboyant gay “celebrity”. The ONLY reason he’s on this is due to the controversy that he sparks by being so openly flamboyantly gay

I am going to be tame about what I said, so I do not get moderated. First, I enjoyed the THS, and I am not a “Glambert”. The above comment really angered me. WTF, seriously, everyone uses there sexuality–“Kei$ha”, “Justin Timberlake”, “Katy Perry”, “Usher”, it is part of the appeal of an artist. I think there are certain “groups” of people that have major hangups when it comes to sexuality, whether it be straight or gay, and I think that the audience that watches AI, tends to be more “conservative” in their viewpoints, which has to account for some of these comments.

  201. @Zastine, sexuality is simply a part of us. It shows, ALL THE TIME, when it’s not being consciously hidden. Add to that the fact that Adam is, by his own admission, a very sexual person, and you get the present situation and your post. Most great artists do, in fact, include their sexuality in their work; I’m not equating Adam with Shakespeare and Titian by any means, lol, but the sexy art thing goes back a loooooooong way.

Adam’s sexuality turns into something that defines him BECAUSE his sexuality is taboo in the US, and there are very, very few out gay artists in our country. When he humps a guy on stage, or walks hand in hand with a date down the street, it turns into a major deal, because…well, because the country is homophobic and looks upon gay sexuality as a curious and distasteful thing.

After the Brad/Adam photos came out, there was no way, given our country, that Adam’s sexuality would not be a focus. Had he stayed in the closet, he would have been inundated with continuous questions about his sexuality, the way it happens with many artists who are obviously gay, and who are obviously in hiding. He came out, thank God, and acted like a normal, sexual person…and that, too, made the news.

Really, under the circumstances, only time could win this battle for him. If it’s any comfort, imo the sexuality thing is dying down. Most promotion on his ep concentrates on his voice rather than on his homosexuality, and this is a good thing.

  202. Saying that E’s THS covered Adam just because of his flamboyance is like saying the Biography Channel covered Pink just because she’s an acrobat.

The reality is that Adam is the most fantastic singer to come along in years. The first time you saw him sing on American Idol, you didn’t have to have some “expert” come up to you, tap you on the shoulder, and inform you of that. Because you just knew.

Wow, just wow! I’m totally speechless. Well, maybe not totally. E featured Adam on THS because he is intriguing, fascinating, charismatic and a very talented entertainer/singer. Gay people are not shoving their sex lives in our faces. They are living their lives just like the rest of us. They should get equal treatment because we are in America afterall….the Land of the Free and Home of the Brave, right?

  205. I’m usually a lurker, trying to keep it that way because being an Adam fan is becoming a full time job as it is! But I just have to comment on something.

Twig LA — I think people are treating two separate issues as if they are the same thing. Saying that homophobia exists as a reality in our society is not the same as saying that anyone who dislikes Adam’s music is homophobic. IMO, the first thing is true, the second thing is not.

I really enjoyed Adam’s THS, a couple of moments notwithstanding. It wasn’t as *tabloidy* as I feared it might be. I thought it was actually a wonderful portrait of him as a person and as an artist. I could have done without the paparazzi mention and the ninja roll. And I wish they hadn’t tried to create a negative drama around Kris’ win. Unfortunately, I thought Leila came off as petty in her comment about Simon’s reaction to Kris’ win, but I really blame the editing. As a mother, I would not have wanted to be quoted like that. Adam was his usual gracious and respectful self. I’m sure they had no choice but to present him like that, because they wouldn’t have had anything else to work with!

    Ceddies — beautiful quote.

  206. The reality is that Adam is the most fantastic singer to come along in years. The first time you saw him sing on American Idol, you didn’t have to have some “expert” come up to you, tap you on the shoulder, and inform you of that. Because you just knew.

This is it in a nutshell. The rest is icing–and a tasty one at that.

How many people stopped surfing and said “Damn, this guy can sing! I like him”? Lots of us. Sorry to say, because of the aforementioned prejudices, lots of people said “I don’t like him, he’s gay, I don’t care that he can sing.” To me, the fact that Adam is gay, has so much character, charisma, etc., just adds an extra layer on the cake for me to love.

ETA: I didn’t mean to sound preachy in my former comment. It’s just that we should all be proud of who we are and others should let us be who we are. Equality is important to me. I’ve lived my life that way. I could have been one of the Freedom Riders coming into the South in the ’60’s to help further freedom of an oppressed group–except I was already here, quietly fighting in my own ways. Oppression is ugly no matter where it is found.

  207. I agree with the comment that Leila’s comment about Simon and Kris came off as petty and not the way she has sounded in past interviews about Kris or his family. That’s one of the examples of the way I think they edited to recreate controversy in each segment, whatever the topic. Ah, E! At least we got some really great stuff on our amazing singer and entertainer.

  208. This is kinda proof Adam’s made it lol–to me, part one was the best

    THANK YOU E!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THIS IS THE BEST EARLY XMAS PRESENT EVER!!!!!!!!!

  209. I realize I’m late to the party and just read the headlines thread that had a lot of discussion about the Kris portion of THS. The first time I watched THS, I was so fascinated by the baby!Adam pictures and hearing all his coaches and friends that I didn’t focus on it. I watched it again. I think what bothered me aside from the editing on Leila and Neil, was that they didn’t get a quote from Kris, even an old quote with E! could have been used. If they’d had his usual “Adam is great and deserved to win as much as me and we are both doing what we love” the whole thing wouldn’t have seemed like a battle. Historically, it wasn’t. But this controvery sells better.

  210. The reality is that Adam is the most fantastic singer to come along in years. The first time you saw him sing on American Idol, you didn’t have to have some “expert” come up to you, tap you on the shoulder, and inform you of that. Because you just knew.

That’s your OPINION. NOT anywhere close to fact like you seem to believe.

I agree with you, in my opinion he’s certainly the most interesting and talented to ever come off of Idol. It goes without saying, he’s the most polarizing contestant ever. There’s something about him that his fans love and his foes hate. Maybe it’s his in your face, fearless way he performs and lives his life. He’s certainly the most honest and unapologetic artist I have ever seen.

  212. It’s hard to sell the way Kelly, Daughtry and Carrie do, when your album has only been out one year. All of these people you mentioned has been out a lot longer than Adam and they have more than one album.

Daughtry’s 2nd album came out a few MONTHS before Adam’s and has already sold over a million copies. Adam and Daughtry’s album essentially don’t differ much in terms of availability.

    This argument makes no sense.

It probably don’t make sense if you don’t read all of the comments preceeding my comment. What I was trying to say is that Adam has not had as much success or sold as many albums as Daughtry, Kelly and Carrie, because they have been out years ahead of him. I am sure you can count back and see how many years the big three have over Adam. So it would be logical to assume that they have sold more. I hope that makes sense, if it doesn’t then unfortuantely I can’t explain any other way to make you understand.

  214. Just ordered my physical copy of Adam’s acoustic EP. MJ has a link in the headlines. I can’t wait for my copy to arrive.

This is true for me also. Somehow Adam being gay makes him even more alluring, lol. His struggles and triumphs in dealing with his sexuality have made him who he is which is pretty wonderful. I don’t think he would be this fascinating, complex yet open, adorable, sweet/dirty/sexy creature that he is without it. (Trying to see how many adjectives I can use to describe Adam in one sentence, lol)

  216. Loved, loved, loved the interview. Ann Powers was great and really nailed it. The vocal coach was so endearing. Love how E! recognizes how special Adam is. I can’t believe he already got his own hour long life story done!! Lol!!

Also find it quite funny that the AMA’s had the worst ratings ever in the all important 18 to 49 year old market. The one sponsors try to court. I think they were all watching E!

If you look at how Carrie and Daughtry’s first albums did, they were the #1 albums on the BB year end countdowns for the year after their debut albums came out. Kelly’s was about #30. So this kind of shows where their record sales were comparately at the stage of their career that Adam is at now, their first year after AI because record sales have gone down so much the past few years. Though, they weren’t headlining a worldwide tour or have worldwide sales like Adam has.

I think when this years chart comes out, Adam’s album might be somewhere in the middle.

I would be happy that Adam’s album finished in the middle somewhere. Before Adam’s album came out, as a fan I was hoping his album would sell enough so he could tour and get another one. I certainly wasn’t thinking he would have the number one album on the charts.I have to say it’s better to be in the middle than being at the bottom or not even on the charts. To me, he’s had a very remarkable journey this year. His album has sold over a million albums worldwide, he headlined his first tour, both in the US and overseas. He’s been interviewed by some of the most famous talkshow host on television. Adam has a acoustic album coming out and will start working on a second album.

So no, he won’t have the number one album this year, but truthfully, in the end what does that really matter.
