Adam Lambert Appears at the 93.3 Jingle Ball in Tampa FL

Adam Lambert was a special guest at the 93.3 Jingle Ball in Tampa Fl Sunday Night (Dec 13). He signed autographs in the “celebrity club”, where I hear he had the longest line by far, and spent a few minutes on stage with 93.3’s Todd “MJ” Schnitt and Dave the Dwarf introducing acts.

Also, I’m hearing Jordin Sparks, one of the scheduled performers, did a lovely a capella version of   “I’ll Be Home For Christmas”.

I heard security was pretty tight, but if there’s any video, I’ll be posting it here… Check out some photos of the event HERE.   More photos from 93.3 HERE.

UPDATE: Added FOX 13 News report. There are reports of Adam fans waiting 2 hours to get his autograph at the meet and greet. There’s a bit of Jordin Sparks in the news report, too.

  1. It was nasty freezing rain in my hometown today, so FL sounds kinda nice and a little warmer! I’m looking forward to Jordin’s video.

  2. thanks for getting this up so quickly. It must be terribly frustrating for adam to not be able to perform. it is so weird. during the NYC jingle ball interview, while Kris was performing, his look while watching Kris on the monitor and his words of “jealousy” was revealing. Was having him at these events a last minute after thought or what? Trying to tie him back in with idol? But at least he is getting around and hopefully having a good time. I am sure not complaining about getting to see his beautifulness on my screen each night!

  3. LOL mj, that article you linked to was hysterical. Sean Daly obviously has no liking for the current pop peeps — at least the ones that showed up at the JB. I suspect this is someone that very much misses the 1980’s style of pop. I adore how he flaunts his disdain of the current crop of popsters in such scathing style. He’s a very entertaining writer even if does sound like he’s going to give himself a stroke.

  4. sumwhut, While I’m sure Adam would have liked to perform in NYC, I suspect the decision not to perform was intentional. He and the band are doing the promotional tour thing, plus Adam is doing lots of interviews (even more so in the week after the AMAs). It all takes it’s toll on the voice. Talking a lot (via press or fans or glad handing) along with performing on a daily basis is likely something Adam is working hard to avoid so as not to strain his voice. He learned on tour that trying to do it all wasn’t possible. And based on his thank you to his ENT in the liner notes for the album, I think he might have had a pretty bad scare at some point either during the tour or post idol.

  5. during the NYC jingle ball interview, while Kris was performing, his look while watching Kris on the monitor and his words of ‘jealousy’ was revealing. Was having him at these events a last minute after thought or what?

I thought Adam looked wistful. He has happy memories of Kris, but I think Adam wants to SING!!!

  6. GeminiDolly
Whens the next time he is going to SING?

Tomorrow night (12/14), Adam is going to be on the Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien. He’ll be singing for sure (probably no interview, though).

  7. Sean Daly says:

“And Lambert was paid fat bags of cash not to sing…”

But he’s not paid for these hosting gigs, right? Isn’t that what I’ve been reading? Is Daly just being snarky?

  8. …and he’s doing all these “Jingle Balls” on Hanukkah. It started Friday night and goes on until next Friday. Kind of ironic. I know he said he’s not religious, but he still says he’s jewish and this is the time you’re with family celebrating – unless, of course, everyone else is doing Jingle Bell balls and you have to pay penance. See, cuz hanging yourself onstage like Lady Gaga is okay, but shoving a boy’s face in your crotch, not so much. Violence and blood and guts is waaaay more acceptable than fake oral sex. So now let’s put on a dog and pony show to put you in your place AND get more peeps in our venue. Got the message, baby? Good.

Okay, just had to get that off my chest – never posted here, hope it’s okay. Well, Happy Hanukkah, Adam – and to anyone else.

  9. will, snarky and/or ignorant is my thought.

Now I see that the caption to Adam’s photo says:

No wild antics from Adam Lambert. He was paid to just show up.

So I vote for ignorant. Hmm, I guess the fact checkers had the night off at the paper.

  10. See, cuz hanging yourself onstage like Lady Gaga is okay, but shoving a boy’s face in your crotch, not so much. Violence and blood and guts is waaaay more acceptable than fake oral sex.

You know, I thought about this during the BW special. ABC showed a video of Gaga hanging herself. It was a graphic, violent image. Then they showed Gaga tonguing another girl in a video. BOTH of these images were shown on network TV WAY BEFORE the 10:00 hour.

Of course, video could not be shown from Adam’s performance because it was too “lewd”. Barbara specifically mentioned the man on man kiss as being “lewd”. Yeah…there isn’t a double standard.

  11. Chad’ ¦. you have lost me’ ¦

er…did I ever HAVE you? That was my first post. ;)
Seriously, though – what was confusing? Or was it just too negative and I should go glass half full? Which is a reasonable request, I’ll admit.

Seriously, though ‘“ what was confusing? Or was it just too negative and I should go glass half full? Which is a reasonable request, I’ll admit.

I get you Chad, I think. You’re saying that these Jingle Bell gigs are punishment for the AMAs by the TPTB. Interesting theory…hmmmm…

  13. I understood Chad- being jewish and celebrating Hannuka myself, I also find it kind of unfair on Adam that instead of being able to be with his family on this holiday and lighting candles, he has to go around celebrating Christmas in order to promote himself.
Although, Chad, I think that just comes with the territory of belonging to a minority group (jewish- not gay) and sometimes having to compromise on your tradition in order to play the field with everyone else. For instance- our sports groups (here in Israel), that always play with the European Leagues (soccer, basketball) are always conflicted when the games are set for our holidays- and usually they end up playing, because most of the leagues go by the Christian calander, and we’ll just get disqualified if we don’t show up. That’s just the way it is.
So I don’t think it’s “penence”, but mere marketing strategy- although I do agree with everything you wrote about the double standard- just don’t agree with your conclusion…

  14. his look while watching Kris on the monitor and his words of ‘jealousy’ was revealing

I can’t keep up with everything. What words of jealousy?

I get you Chad, I think. You’re saying that these Jingle Bell gigs are punishment for the AMAs by the TPTB. Interesting theory’ ¦hmmmm’ ¦

I don’t know – those jingle balls have a limited audience. Adam is getting much more exposure on the view, leno, conan, sytycd, etc.
I’m not worried that he’s being punished.

  15. Based on the photos posted on the 93.3 web site, Adam was very, very busy meeting and greeting fans http://www.jingleballtampa.com/main.html For many of them it will be just as exciting to actually meet him and get a photo taken with him as it is to hear him sing live. It’s good publicity. Happy fans will buy his music and go see him on tour. It’s a win-win situation.

  16. OhMyRawrrr-

He just looked up at Kris singing on the screen and said something about how lucky Kris is for getting to sing Madison Square while he isn’t, and then said “I’m a little jealous”, but it was sweet. The dj offered to bump Justin Bieber and have Adam perform instead, so Adam said he met Bieber and he’s a really nice kid- and that he thought if they did that (bump him for Adam), he might get crucified… I felt for him- it probably isn’t fun to watch others perform when you’re a performer yourself, and have so much new music to promote… oh well, he’ll be fine!

  17. Adam was co-host, as scheduled a couple weeks ago, then, Kris Allen and Allison Iraheta got scheduled to perform. To ‘sumwhut” there is no look of ‘jealousy’ from Adam. He was invited to an exclusive event honoring Stephen Speilbert – award for his work w Anti-Deflamation Award- and publically in press interview praised Adam as his ‘hero” !! He also said his children told him what he would remember most was his meeting Adam Lambert. Then on The View, all four women clearly showed this smart successful ladies like and support Adam. His CD is praised by music critics, and he has not reason to be jealous of anyone. In fact, his fans are addicted, his foes are too. Adam has a life, we are spectators to it. And I love this sweet talented guy.too

  18. So Adam seems to have the longest lind. Yeah it seems the AMAs really hurt him. My daughter and her college roommates became fans because of the AMAs. He looks so happy!

  19. Hi I went to the jingle ball tonight. In the friday weekend of the st peterburg time Adam had the front page full veiw with the title Got Mistletoe Then pucker up because Adam Lambeb and I is coming to town to host the Jingle Ball with Sean Kingston,Jordin Sparks, the Fray,Pitball and more.
My friend visiting from Kentucky and I purchase tickets to go see Adam and he was on all of two minutes. Very sad for and it is both of us.
I read Seans review and it was right on.
Was Adam on stage more in Boston, ny and Miami?

  20. One more thing I felt like the promoters Use the St Petersburg Times to sell tickets. It wasn’t worth 60 each for 2 minutes.

  21. sorry about your experience, ricardo- it seems this whole jingle ball affair is just frustrating for both Adam (who can’t sing- except 20 secs acapella) and his fans, who came especially for him, and he was there for only a few minutes…
Hope for better luck next time ricardo! I do think that the New Years Eve performance will completely be worth the money- he’s performing about 8 songs!! If you still have the cash- go for it!! I would, if I lived in the US.

  22. My friend visiting from Kentucky and I purchase tickets to go see Adam and he was on all of two minutes.

Uhm, you purchased tickets just to see him host? Didn’t care to see any of the musical acts at all????

  23. It’s okay Sean Daly, I feel your pain. But Adam will be back in business soon. He’s still calming America down. Unnecessary placating takes time.

  24. Thanks MR the thing is I live in Clearwater and those 8 songs are in LA. Would love to if I had the cash. Will wait for his tour and fly to where ever.

  25. ! am catholic, and the “penace for your sins” idea I have thought of more than once since the AMA’s.

“For your penance, you must appear at 4 Jingle Balls my son, where you must warch your friends perform”

“And you may not sing, except for one painfully short acapella number…”

  26. He’s not being punished and he’s not doing it for free. He’s doing it because wherever Adam goes, people follow and he’s bringing in the ticket sales.

    He’s doing it for spins.
It’s simply the way things work.

Yeah some of those fans were happy to drape themselves all over him and have their hands all over him. They treated him like a piece of meat. I bet Adam couldn’t wait to get out of there. At what price record sales?

  28. Yeah some of those fans were happy to drape themselves all over him and have their hands all over him. They treated him like a piece of meat. I bet Adam couldn’t wait to get out of there. At what price record sales?

No, I think the price was spins. Adam is too accomadating sometimes. (Although he does appear to be a hugger.)Perhaps he gives off the vibe that it is okay to move in a little.
I do think the AI fandom as a whole is WAY too touch-feely with their idols.

  29. Just listening to 93.3 this morning. Dj said Adam was very, very nice and down to earth and if he makes it big he hopes he stays the way he is now. Commented on the amount of makeup but more of a joke, nothing too bad. Very Complimentary.

On the other hand, they are dissing on Sean Kingston right now who was mad at where he was placed in the lineup of acts. His manager said he wasn’t coming out. They moved him and he played later in the set. Nobody knew they switched him but there was a lot of drama backstage.

Good press for Adam, hopefully the station will spin the song more.

  30. Um, can someone explain to me why Adam, considering he seems to be the BIG draw for these things is NOT given a set to sing?

It’s kinda like the #1 pop album in the country not being given any radio play.

    Make no sense.

  31. Ah yes, any asshole-y antics are bound to be made fun of on the MJ morning show the next day, so Sean Kingston should have just kept his mouth shut and just gone out there and do what he was there to do.

A friend and I were actually planning to go to this, but then my husband got us tickets to the Bucs/Jets game, and I’m a pretty big Jets fan. So, sorry Adam!

I think Adam was brought into this to sell those tickets to the Metro PCS Celebrity Club. He did his job. There were a TON of those available before he was announced as coming for the meet and greet. But, they started being snapped up pretty quickly the week after.

I love Sean Daly’s cynicism. I hope he never changes :).

Adam must have looked like a giant standing next to MJ (MJ the morning DJ here in Tampa – not our MJ), because I’ve met him before and he is a wee little man.

  32. I do think the AI fandom as a whole is WAY too touch-feely with their idols.

They sure are. Even if he gives off the ‘vibe’ that it’s okay, it’s not okay to be touchy feely. Give the man his space.

  33. I really think these appearances were about spins. The Z100 ball in NY was sold out before Adam was announced

  34. It seems Adam has won over MJ (DJ) and that is good because he was not that into him before. This is why these jingle things are good as has been noted.
Can’t believe Adam has the number one album in Israel. Is that retail sales or iTunes?
Also apparently Adam is very popular in Peru. Peru?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9j4n4WTaFSQ

  35. adam is also #1 and #4 in 2 of r local stations hir in manila and tfm never failed to be on top 10 of r local music chanel. so adam is everywer. simon is ryt adam is a worldwide star.. and he is on his way, slowly but surely…

  36. I know I couldnt have stood for all the pictures that Adam did. He’s got to be brave, but wait, that was some of his punishment for the BAD AMA antics. What else are they going to do to him??? I looked thru the photos to see if I know anyone I live in Tampa too. He sure stands out in the pictures, and getting skinnier, I hope he is eating right. So Conan tonite????? Was it pretaped? When could he have done it, or are they taping today. Is Conan in NY or Cali?

  37. Adam looks really happy in all the Jingle Ball photos I’ve seen! I’m sure he was disappointed to not sing but ya gotta do what ya gotta do!

ETA: Conan is in LA and they are taping today. He is always taped and shown on the same day, unlike Chelsea Handler or Ellen.

  38. Watching Adam NOT sing at the Jingle Balls makes me think of the years he spent being an understudy in Wicked where he would only ocassionally go on stage, and when he did get to go on stage, he was playing a part and not being himself. He must have been exceedingly frustrated as an understudy. The main difference now is that he has legions of fans who want to hear him sing and feel fiercely protective of him. I keep reminding mysel, He’ll survive the Jingle Balls, and if he gets spins it’s all worth it.

  39. ETA: Conan is in LA and they are taping today. He is always taped and shown on the same day

Even when Conan was in NYC, it was done this way.

  40. Can’t believe Adam has the number one album in Israel. Is that retail sales or iTunes?

Well, to be fair, I’m not sure it’s the number 1 in all of Israel- I think it’s just on that specific site that Saga posted on the ADL thread (Saga rocks!). It’s definitely not on itunes, because the Israeli itunes store is virtually non-existant (big big FAIL), and the physical CD isn’t in stores as of yet (even bigger FAIL)… but that kind of makes that Stat. even more impressive, I think, because it means that even though he hasn’t been officailly released here, lots of people are buying from retail stores online…

And popular in Peru, too? That’s just awesome!!

  41. I tend to agree KLI. Although it’s a little painful for me to watch, I realize Adam does like meeting people and talking, so I’m sure he’s enjoying these Jingle Balls way more than we are. The exposure he’s getting within the industry is well worth it. He definately seems to be a magnet everywhere he goes.

  42. Hey everyone, as Adam’s hosting gigs at Jingle Ball has just concluded, let’s now turn our focus on to something more exciting for a change! :-)

As an international Adam fan (or should I say stan!) I am so thrilled to have caught the FYE MV on my TV screen today (2x in fact!). The MV has just made its debut on MTV in Malaysia! :-)

Besides FYE, both our music channels have been playing T4F MV daily as well!

  43. That’s great GreatAdamFan !

I have a question for the Europeans here- have you seen the MV for FYE on MTV Europe yet? Because that’s what we get here, and I know that what I see is really lagging behind the US (for instance- they’re showing Lady GaGa’s Paparazzi in full force, when in the States she’s already moved on to Bad Romance weeks ago, I think…).

Am I wrong? (I also heard someone say that there isn’t just one MTV Europe- that there’s a different one for Germany + Scandinavian countries and the rest of the continent… does anyone know if that’s true???)

  44. when in the States she’a already moved on to Bad Romance weeks ago, I think’ ¦)

mr, you are right, it’s “Bad Romance” now.

  45. thanks for the links on the Acapella – it is amazing how he can just do that while others would need their tweakers and whistles to fix their voice, not Adam – pure clear and wonderful almost all of the time

  46. Ok- i could have been wrong about the physical CD… another poster has informed me on the other thread that it is available in some stores here.
I’m going to look for it…

I think I’ll try not to talk without having some official source anymore, since my personal experience isn’t really enough to draw any conclusions on, apperently (to my defense I will say that I’ve been to four different CD stores and they all said it wasn’t released here… I will have to investigate further.. heh)

  47. On their JB website, they have all the singers, including Adam’s pictures on there. Adam has 104 pictures, and the next highest is BLG with 38. Their photographer must be loving on some Adam.

ETA: Oh, I guess it was because of all the fans in his line. I do remember the tweets saying they had to have their pics taken with complete strangers to save time.

  48. “”And for those of you imagining he’s being made to pay penance, penance for what exactly? The AMA’s? You couldn’t have gotten exposure like that for a million bucks. He’s all people have been talking about for weeks, and after ABC ‘banned””

This is soooo true, at my Christmas party they were talking about this and Adam – one of the guys worked at YPG – he work with missiles, launches, test bombs, etc and He said a bunch of the guys he work with were talking about him and he said Who IS Adam Lambert, that is all I hear lately and they said he is this guy with a killer voice who is going to be a legend, seriously – all these roughnecks were discussing the merits of Adam Lambert. My husband got back to the table and rolled his eyes and laughed at me, he couldnt believe the conversation was about him again – but – it was fun. I brought along my Adam cd and got to hear it loudly in surround sound and got my work dancing to him!! Left the hotel the next morning and turned on the radio and it was Whataya want from me, nice ending to a very good party!

    Agree 100%.

  50. Oh, boy – all those people lined up and then grouped together (in order to move the line?) to be in photos with Adam, I don’t know.

It reminds me of how kids line up at Disney to pose with characters . . .

It’s a little disturbing to me. If I were him I’d want to take a really long hot shower after that.

  51. Ya to quote the line WWFM, “I’m a Freak” so sad. but I guess if people line up to meet Adam, thats fine, but maybe he should have worn some Mickey Mouse Ears. LOL.

  52. I never heard of the Jingle Balls till this year and to invite an artist to host, well I was thinking, you know, like hosting the Oscars or somethin’. No, introducing one artist who actually gets to perform is what they had in mind for Adam. What a waste of his talent, but his promoters would not have sent him if they didn’t think there would be some sort of payoff on the radio. Airline tickets and hotel rooms aren’t free!

As for Wicked, yes he was an understudy for Fiyero, but he got to go on stage every night even when he wasn’t playing Fiyero as he was in the chorus, otherwise I think he would have gone nuts! As he would if he had to do Jingle Balls for a living!

In the long run all of the above is in the category of “paying your dues.”

  53. I had the impression that Adam was added as a draw because some of the Jingle Balls were not selling well. The line up this year was kinda meh with Justin Beaber, Jordan and The Fray being the main draws, and they’re not exactly headliners.

I can’t imagine Adam not getting paid. I can’t see his management company giving him away for free.

I’m pretty sure that the actual Jingle Balls that Adam got last-minute hosting gigs at were SOLD OUT before he was ever added. I know for sure that Z100’s Jingle Ball and the big Florida one were. So, Adam was not added to sell more tickets to the concert itself. Also, don’t expect that Adam got paid anything but perhaps minimal compensation for these, just like all the artists who performed. The radio stations get artists performing, and the artists get exposure to the radio station decisionmakers and their listeners. It’s no different than an appearance on a TV talk show. Letterman doesn’t pay Adam or Kris big bucks to perform on his show. They perform on the show to get the exposure.

And the reason Adam wasn’t performing at any of these, IMO, is because his label/mgmt didn’t seem to think he needed to. They thought he was maybe too big a star for them or something. But, when FYE failed at radio, they realized they needed to step up and get Adam out there to these stations to schmooze. Unfortunately for Adam, by the time they realized this, all the performance slots were booked up, so he was left with nothing but possibly hosting.

To say that Adam appearing for a couple minutes to “host” the Z100 Jingle Ball is more “prestigious” than it is to perform, when his hosting consisted of being briefly interviewed, and then announcing Taylor Swift, is probably seeing things through very rose-colored-I-love-Adam glasses.

  54. Holy moly! I just saw that Charlie guy’s video for the first time and I actually felt sooooo sorry for my boy- think about it: if the fans stood for two hours in line just to get a picture with him, think what it was like for him to stand there for over two hours posing with everyone as if he was some kind of f**king tourist attraction like the Empire State Building or something…. urrr…. it made me shudder to look at him standing there trying to shake his legs and rolling his head and shoulders to get the blood flowing…

Poor Baby! Well- I guess the road to success is long and hard…

I’m so looking forward to his NYE performance- and he must be too! To finally be able to let a little loose again- go crazy on 8 songs!

  55. I love that in the Peru FYE “dance” that the crowd is singing along. I always seem to sing along to this song too. It’s a happy song!!!! I’m serious about this.

  56. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9j4n4WTaFSQ

This is one of the comments on that Peru video. Basically it says that Adam is more loved outside his own country. We recognize and value the great talent that this artist has. In spite of everything that is happening he will be an icon of music in the future.
“Creo que Adam es mas querido fuera de su pais. Nosotros sabemos reconocer y valorar el gran talento que tiene este artista.A pesar de todo lo que le esta pasando actualmente , el sera un icono de la musica en el futuro.ï »'”

  57. “This is one of the comments on that Peru video. Basically it says that Adam is more loved outside his own country. We recognize and value the great talent that this artist has. In spite of everything that is happening he will be an icon of music in the future.”

I think it is very likely that Adam will be more recognized and celebrated outside of America than within because too much of this country is Puritanical and fearful.

Calling FYE a “failure,” though! Oh, how I would LOVE to be failing in my life the way Adam is right now as he lives his dream HIS way, no compromises, meeting and working with his favorite artists, performing for fans and industry giants, making videos, DRESSING UP, putting together a kickass band, headlining a NYE concert in Los Angeles, all while promoting a fantastic and original album put together in mere months while touring the U.S., an album he proudly feels represents him as an artist and a man.

The Tampa Jingle Bell heavily promoted Adam as a host to sell Celebrity Club tix (I know because I considered buying them and then they were gone), and all you have to do is look at the pictures of the fans standing in lines two hours to get a pic with him (and nine other strangers so they could move the line) to see that he was a huge draw.

Because Adam has a whole string of potential hits on that album, it makes sense to me to get him out there to meet radio people who may need to see that “face” and get to know Adam in order to overcome radio’s resistance to something and someone different.

I have no idea, frankly, why he didn’t sing at them, but I think it’s likely Adam, his label, and his management have him doing what they think best, when think it’s best, and that they know their business better than . . . people who don’t.

  58. I have no idea, frankly, why he didn’t sing at them, but I think it’s likely Adam, his label, and his management have him doing what they think best, when think it’s best, and that they know their business better than . . . people who don’t.

I posted this on the other thread, but according to somebody who went to the JB and talked at length with the radio station’s program director about Adam, this is some of what was said..

The only reason Adam was able to do the jingle ball appearances was because the AMA fallout, and the cancellation from Ryans thing…..Adam was supposed to have been in Vegas last night filming it, but when his schedule opened up….the radio stations nabbed him for the jinge balls.

He didnt perform for a couple of reasons….
1)If he had performed at 1 of them, he would have had to perform at all 4
2)The cost of bringing the whole band
3)There was no time for rehearsal….the bands on the bill had been rehearsing for a whlie, Adam and his band didn’t have time to prepare for that type of performance on such short notice

  59. I was at the jingleball in Tampa last night. The line was soooo long for Adam but it was well worth the wait. The m&g for Adam did not start till 7pm, so it was about a 2 hr wait. It was nice to meet so many other Adam fans while we waited. Adam was so kind and patient and he hugged so many and signed autographs. The blonde handler lady was there and she was so nice. We took the pic and I got a hug from Adam then she ask me if I wanted anything signed, I said yes so she took my cd and ask my name and adam wrote it out to me personally. Then we got back in line and this time i was standing next to him in the pic. Adam was truly kind and of course stunning to look at. They were only using 1/2 of the arena and it still was not full. I think Pit bull got the best response of the night. No one was crazy or out of line and Adam did not seem as if he was hating every moment. He was only out on stage 2 times,he did not actually host anything. But we deff got our moneys worth just by getting to meet him.
