ABC has picked up 6 episodes of Sing Your Face Off, a singing competition featuring five celebrities who will train and be transformed into a legendary musical icon, reports The Hollywood Reporter:
The series, based on Endemol Spain’s Your Face Sounds Familiar, will feature celebrities — who have yet to be cast — taking on iconic musicians as they undergo hours of makeup, choreography and vocal coaching. Each episode will feature the complete physical transformation — including the icon’s walk, talk, mannerisms and more — as the celebrities compete in front of judges and a studio audience. In addition to being tasked with a physical transformation, participating talent also will have to actually perform music from their assigned icon each week. Participating celebs will transform to play — and sing — multiple musical performers during the series. Details on prizes still are being worked out.
Wow. This show sounds really creepy. So, I’m guessing that a group of lame D list “celebrities,” desperate for TV time, will impersonate actual celebrities in order to win a contest? Oy. Casting begins immediately with a premier date to be announced later. The show will be executive produced by Georgie Hurfod-Jones (America’s Got Talent, Britain’s Got Talent).
In Spain, it has delivered record ratings. So, there’s that.
