American Idol Season 8 First Hollywood Week Ratings Down from Last Year

With American Idol on board there is no stopping Fox, which continues to own Tuesday. CBS was on the map despite airing repeats of NCIS and The Mentalist. And NBC continues to benefit from improved The Biggest Loser.

The first night in Hollywood on American Idol opened the evening with a hefty 26.28 million viewers and a 9.9 rating/25 share among adults 18-49 from 8-9 p.m. Tied for second in the hour was a repeat of CBS aforementioned NCIS (Viewers: #2, 14.36 million; A18-49: #3, 2.9/ 7) and the first half of NBC The Biggest Loser (Viewers: #3, 8.92 million; A18-49: #2, 3.2/ 8). Also airing in the time period was ABC dud Homeland Security USA (Viewers: #4, 5.68 million; A18-49: #4, 1.6/ 4) and 90210 on the CW (Viewers: #5, 2.44 million; A18-49: #5, 1.3/ 3). Comparably, this was 90210’s best performance in one month and best ever opposite American Idol in total viewers (2.4 million), adults 18-34 (1.8/5), women 18-34 (2.6/7) and adults 18-49 (1.3/3).

Last year, the 2-hour Hollywood Week episode netted 30M viewers, and a 12.3/29 rating share in the desirable demo. However, the numbers are up a little bit from last Tuesday’s 25 million, 9.6/24 ratings share.
