Season Five Encores Chart Watch
Donna Reynolds does a column called Idol Chartwatch for Foxes on Idol. Here’s an interesting tidbit about the debut of the American Idol Season Five Encores CD on the charts last week:
American Idol Season Five Encores, which was released on May 23, debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200, selling over 155, 000 copies. This is 70, 000 more than last year’s CD sold in the same time period, and an astounding 100, 000 more than season three managed to move its first week. The CD also charted on the Digital Album Chart (#4), the Internet Album Sales chart (#6).
This year, the CD was released finale week rather than earlier in the season, as in previous years. Timing the release with the finale built up anticipation for it and made it part of the big event. Thanks GR
