Taylor Hicks Performs this Weekend in Birmingham

Taylor Hicks to perform this weekend in Birmingham.

From Gray Charles:

“Alabama Getaway – Folks, I have it on trusted authority that Taylor will in fact be making an appearance at City Stages in B’ham this weekend. Get your dancing shoes on folks. Take some pictures and send them my way.

Look for plenty of up to the minute updates on al.com, they had the story first.”

UPDATE: Holy Cow!

“Newly crowned American Idol Taylor Hicks will return to Birmingham this weekend and sing with Snoop Dogg at City Stages.

Hicks, who is in Los Angeles preparing for the “American Idol” tour that comes to Birmingham in August, will fly into town today and perform with Snoop Dogg, who headlines the Miller Lite Stage at 10:50 p.m. Saturday.”

Snoop Dogg and Taylor?  I would love to see that.  Trying to imagine….hmmm….

Billboard article/interview with Taylor.  He talks about his album, scheduled to be released in the fall:

“‘I’m really excited, ‘ says Hicks, who won this year’s Idol competition last month, after 43 million viewers tuned into the fifth season finale. ‘There’s gonna be some really, really great things on the album. I’ve got some secret stuff that I’m completely stoked about and I know everybody else will be, too.’

Not surprisingly, Hicks isn’t revealing any of those secrets. ‘I’m just really excited about some of the stuff that I’ve heard through the grapevine and some of the stuff I’ve received, ‘ he says. “Hopefully it’ll be a great album.”

According to AL.com, Idol is eyeing Birmingham, AL as a possible audition site:

“Jack Fields, executive director of the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex, said Idol officials toured its facilities earlier this week. BJCC officials had worried that space limitations might make it difficult to win a host site.

‘We’ve talked about how we can accommodate their needs, ‘ Fields said. ‘They said they would get back with us. Nothing has been finalized.’

Leonard said Simon Lythgoe, son of Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe, accompanied Hicks during his visit to Birmingham as a finalist on May 12 and came away impressed with the city.

‘I sat with Simon for a long time when he visited our studio and talked about what a great place Birmingham is for Idol’ Leonard said. ‘He also discussed the possibility of coming here with Mayor (Bernard) Kincaid’. “

With two Idols and a runner-up hailing from Birmingham, hosting auditions there seems like the next logical step…

Taylor Ford Ad in USAToday

I picked up a USAToday this afternoon.  On pages 8-9A (front section) there’s a two page Ford ad featuring Taylor.  Page 8 is a picture of Taylor smiling, doing that fists-up-side-tilt thang.  The caption reads “Bold Wins”.  Heh.
