Carnegie Mellon grad Lilli Passero lights up ‘The Voice’ – Fans of “The Voice” seem to really love Lilli Passero, whose blind audition and subsequent serenade by Alicia Keys ran up almost 2 million views on YouTube. Yet the singer had to be coaxed by her parents to attend the blind auditions. “They sat me down and had an intervention. They said ‘We know the competition thing scares you, and this is something you would never normally consider doing, but we believe in you too much for you not to be having more going on with your career,’ ” said Ms. Passero, 26 and a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University’s drama program. – Read more at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Taylor Hicks gets a taste of home as ‘State Plate’ films its Alabama episode at Saw’s Juke Joint – “There’s some mixed reviews on what I look like in a hairnet,” Hicks said this week, during a visit to Birmingham. “And I think there would be mixed reviews for anybody wearing a hairnet. As the host of a food and travel show, you’ve got to throw caution to the wind, and do some things that might be out of your comfort zone. When you’re going into some of these factories, you have to take care of the food and make sure it’s not contaminated. Sometimes a hairnet is necessary, and I feel like I’m the lunch lady.” Hicks, now immersed in filming episodes for Season Two of “State Plate,” said he’ll do whatever it takes to produce compelling television, tossing his ego aside as he travels to 12 more states in 2017. The singer made a promise, though, to fans who might not enjoy seeing his famous gray locks under wraps. – Read more at AL.com

Normani Kordei and Val Chmerkovskiy get in ‘Dancing’ practice at RodeoHouston – The singer, who is from Pearland, will appear on Season 24 of “Dancing with the Stars.” The show is notorious for its intensive rehearsal process that pushes performers to the brink of exhaustion. And Kordei is already putting in work (work, work). She was joined in Houston by professional “DWTS” partner Val Chmerkovskiy. He joined the group onstage for a quick hug and a goofy dance inside NRG Stadium. Kordei and Chmerkovskiy both chronicled their day on Instagram, posting clips from inside the venue, during dance rehearsal and with fans at the carnival. Read more at Chron.com
