HDD – Album Sales Prediction : July 2-July 8

With 54.98% of the chart reporting in, the chart looks kind of topsy-turvy. Lots of older albums and Indie darlings are all over the top of the chart while last week’s 1 and 2 are way back at 10 and 11. What’s up? Amazon had a fire sale. Lots of albums for $1.99 and people liked that price. As you may recall, Billboard changed its reporting rules for albums sold on the cheap after Gaga moved a lot of units for 99 cents her opening week on Amazon. Any album sold under $3.49 wouldn’t count, BUT that only applies to its first four weeks. So these sales count. Amazon reports in early, so this has had a large effect on the charts.

Controversial Chris Brown currently leads the chart and he is expected to top the final chart with a relatively modest 125-140K. Katy Perry surging on those Amazon sales is currently second followed by Bieber (whose album just might have legs). Indie darlings who just had massive hits, Gotye and fun., are at 4th and 5th and the Black Keys are 6th. Flo Rida is set to debut in the top 10 and is currently 7th. Jason Mraz, Kenny Chesney and Linkin Park round out the top 10. Adele finds herself outside of the top 10 for the first time since her album was released.

The first reality show contestant to show up is way back at 18th. Phil Phillips Walmart album should go up again when the second half of Walmart reports. One Direction has tumbled down to 20th, but should recover back into the top 10 by the final chart. Carrie is at 32 and Kelly at 43. Kelly also appears on the Now 42 album with One direction which is currently at 28th and Jason Aldean’s album at 38th.
