I said that sales are down this year, but that just shows that just makes the numbers for Kelly’s and the other people in the top 40 look more impressive.

The word “many” has to be put into the right perspective, since like I said, more than 40 albums have been released this year.  The artists listed are at the top of the heap.

Taylor said: Carrie spent time and money in the UK and in a few other countries, trying to break into some markets outside of the US. I agree that #11 was a good start for Carrie in the UK and something to build on in the future, just like #16 was a good start for Adam and also something to build on.

She was in the UK for about a week or two, so the results that she got were nice.  But, I doubt that she or her label thought that she could become an established star in the country  just by getting airplay for two weeks, and making a few high profile appearances.

Interesting that the #1 UK album is by a WGWG.

Carrie did a wide variety of shows and appearances and had many promo opportunities, just like Adam. The efforts from her promo were rewarded, just like Adam’s efforts were rewarded. They both had songs and albums that ended up in the top 20. Both of the results, from Carrie’s and Adam’s promo were a nice start and both results can be points to build on with any future efforts.

Yes, FYE peaked at #37 when the UK version was released, with a weekly sales of 5884 units, but a total of 18507 because it had been available since the US release. It charted at #87 in December 2009.

Kelly’s sales have been holding well and are strong for an album released 9 months ago, however, compared to other albums with hit singles, they are on the low side.

Me, honestly, and to all who says that a Gold album is easy to archieve on UK, please do some research, 100k records are Gold, 300k Platinum, and as you can see, you can chart within the Top 20 with a mediocre 7k on sales

I don’t think I said anything to the contrary but thanks :)

Thanks. But I said: ”But I don’t see her on the singles chart or albums chart so maybe I’m missing something.”

If she had no single playing on the radio/released, that would explain no single on the single download chart.

    http://www.officialcharts.com/singles-download-chart/

    This is the album chart.
    http://www.officialcharts.com/albums-chart/

I read Carrie album debuted at #11 but I don’t see it on the album chart now. She DOES appear on the country album chart, I posted the link. http://www.officialcharts.com/country-charts/

Where is Carrie’s album in the scheme of things on the official album chart?

Of course it is hard to keep up with people throwing around numbers on charts that are not common here and I admit being confused about the original single versus album numbers but they are clearly separated on the official charts link..

The way I see it Carrie charted her album at #11 9,595 copies and Adam at #16 with 7,107. She also is on #2 of their Country album chart.

Why is that so surprising considering she’s the top selling artist that Idol ever put out? (and only 1 of the 2 remaining in that stature).

My comments are coming from someone’s comment that placing in the top 10 is the be all and end all of breaking into the UK yesterday. If that’s a true statement then I say it sucks for her to be out of the top 10.

AND the OP I replied to that said “LOLs at Lambert missing the top 15! and the #1 album sold 35k…just saying.”

It seems the 35K was incorrect, the #1 was 16K. Meanwhile I don’t see the problem with Lambert coming in 5 positions below Carrie. I would expect it, actually.

“Single usually becomes available for sale quite a few weeks after the radio premiere. I think anything between 6 weeks and three months.”

Thanks! I seem to remember springboard saying you were expected to peak on radio with your single two weeks before the single was released. During the run up to July 8 NCOE release. Because the radio spins were in the “lower than expected” realm.
Then there’s the “must be in the top 10 sales to break through in the UK” from yesterday.

So I think I’ll just stop following the random numbers and theories I’m trying to learn about LOL. But your third paragraph says it all, imo. Some sell some don’t some stay on the play list and some don’t. Pretty much covers it haha.

Ali Goria: My comments are coming from someone’s comment that placing in the top 10 is the be all and end all of breaking into the UK yesterday. If that’s a true statement then I say it sucks for her to be out of the top 10.

They were referring to the singles chart, where Carrie didn’t make a dent after not making much of an effort to make a dent.

Ali Goria: Why is that so surprising considering she’s the top selling artist that Idol ever put out? (and only 1 of the 2 remaining in that stature).

It was surprising to me because she waited 7 years into her career to go overseas and unlike Taylor/Lady A, she steadfastly insisted on being categorized as country (as opposed to pop) despite how that would limit her audience. Her TV and radio promo gigs generally reflected those limitations, and that’s fine.

I posted in the numbers thread about Carrie’s UK promo, the aims and the true context. I feel like it’s off topic here.

I don’t think that I said that a single would peak two weeks before it was released, because I don’t believe it is the case.
It will peak around or just after released date, unless it is a hit and the airplay  will keep going for longer, but in any case, the timing is geared towards a high possible chart position on release week.
I thought that NCOE wasn’t on target to be a hit considering this.
