X Factor UK Drops Again and Simon Cowell’s Mental Breakdown

According to The Hollywood Reporter the X Factor UK ratings dropped even further in its fourth week on ITV.

The latest hour-long episode Saturday night peaked with 9.4 million viewers and had an average audience of 8.2 million. Those were the lowest figures season-to-date for the show from Simon Cowell’s Syco Entertainment and the Thames arm of RTL Group’s Fremantle UK unit. Last season, the show had regularly drawn more than 10 million viewers. A week earlier, ITV1 had drawn as many as 9.7 million viewers and an average audience of 8.6 million. X Factor remained the highest-rated program on British TV Saturday night by nearly 3 million viewers.

Hopefully, The downturn in X Factor’s fortunes won’t drive its creator, Simon Cowell to another “mental breakdown.”

That is, according to author Tom Bower, who added a new chapter to his sensational biography of the nasty Brit, Sweet Revenge, The Intimate Life of Simon Cowell.

Remember when X Factor UK judge, Louis Walsh replaced Simon on the X Factor US panel in St. Louis? Reportedly, Simon was battling a nasty case of bronchitis and was ordered to bed rest by doctors.

According to Bower, Simon had some sort of a mental breakdown as the stresses of his professional and personal life became overwhelming.

Stricken Simon had to be put on a strict detox regime to give him the strength to battle his “demons”.

His doctor in Los Angeles told him to remove all supplements and health aids from his life and quit smoking.

Cowell, 52, was bedridden for a week, cutting himself off from friends, colleagues and even the demands of top TV executives.

He is said to have confided in X Factor pal Louis Walsh: “I don’t want any more tablets and pills. I’m cutting out the lot, including cigarettes.

“I desperately need peace. I’m craving normality. I’ve got to work out my demons and come out of it.

“I have to get back to where I was years ago. I had to stop reading texts at three in the morning and making calls later and later. I wanted peace.”

After Simon’s late night lifestyle turned him into a “weird vampire”, his doctors put him on a 3 week break to recover from “nervous exhaustion.”

This account could be true, if somewhat exaggerated, as Simon has talked in the past about his struggle with depression and black moods. Also, those supplements he supposedly stopped probably include that regimen of  weird smoothies he was drinking.  Most detrimental to his health was the smoking. I hope he really quit.

Hopefully, drunk tweeting from airplanes serves as helpful stress reliever!
