Welp. The World Series ended in a 4 game San Francisco sweep. That means FOX is faced with having to fill several days with repeats…or…rejigger the schedule.

Instead of beginning the live shows on Thursday November 1 as originally planned, live performance3s will kick off on Wednesday Oct 31, with the Top 12 reveal scheduled for Thursday November 1.

If the series had stretched to 7 games,  the Nov 1 show would have been cancelled and the X Factor would have aired a mega show on Sunday night. UGH. Finally, something goes right for poor Simon Cowell!

Read more below from the press release.

Following the conclusion of the 2012 World Series, THE X FACTOR’s Top 16 acts will perform live for the first time on a special two-hour-and-seven-minute show Wednesday, Oct. 31 (8:00-10:07 PM live/ PT tape-delayed) on FOX. Hosts Khloé Kardashian Odom and Mario Lopez will take THE X FACTOR stage alongside judges Simon Cowell, Demi Lovato, Britney Spears and L.A. Reid. Then, on Thursday, Nov. 1 (8:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed), the Top Finalists will be revealed, and return the following week to face America’s vote.

And don’t miss a special encore of THE X FACTOR tonight (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), featuring the conclusion of the “Judges’ Homes” round and the announcement of the Top 16 finalists.

Wait so tonight is the 2hr show that was so messed up with and then cut to one hour.

And, Thursday will be a 2hr results show that only the judges do the voting on. So not live deciding like last year and 2hrs result show is WAY TOO LONG.

What airs Sunday? Not XF but will it be repeats, new or something else?

This is my first season watching X Factor and I think I’m over it before it’s begun. I’m SO confused by the schedule. On, off, repeat, off, on again. Bring on Idol!

  • samuelgrant

So glad the schedule is fixed after this. I would not at all be surprised to hear that Simon refuses to do another season in the fall at least until after the World Series.

So, two hours Wed to the Top 16 pperform, who WON’T be voted and two hours Thurdays to REVEAL the “Top finalists”? Is it a total non-sense or we’re missing some information? Or both?

  • elliegrll

I don’t think that most people follow schedules too closely, so this change benefits the X Factor.  Being out of their regular time period for three weeks in a row could have been a huge blow for the show.

I’m so glad the world series ended w/ a sweep I hated waiting and feared everything could of been pushed to the 4th of November. I’m excited X- Factor got moved to a day earlier, its like a treat. I’m interested in a bunch of acts. Bring on the live shows. :)

Not that I really care but what’s the difference between the two shows???
What the heck does the reveal of the Finalists mean? Isn’t that the same as having the Top 16 perform?

Well, not good news for those of us who are taking out trick-or-treaters.  This night is second only to Christmas for excitement for my kids.  No one will be home to watch in my neighborhood, I can tell you that…

  • Klaine

Why air yet another repeat?  This is the third time theyre showing this point.  Your story says they will perform and then the viewers will vote for the first time.  I thought the first week was all 16 performing and then each judge would axe one.  Is t his season different?  Are they doing something Voice-ish where the votes will determine each  judge s bottom 2 and the the judge will eliminate someone from that point

YOud think Fox would have something better to put on tonight than another XF show…esp going against DWTS and The VOice…Dont see much of a plus and its going to generate stories tomorrow of how XF (granted a repeat) came in way behind the other reality shows.  They should have produced a special MEET THE CONTESTANTS episodes with Mario and Khloe getting us to know the contestants a little more – some behind the scenes footage they havent shown ; and then they could include some clips of their prior performances.  That at least would be better…but what do I know

  • Klaine

Thats a good point.  It might hurt ratings as well as HUT Levels that night – especially with the type of demo theyre going after.

  • Klaine

No, its the judges telling contestants “ive made my decision…and youve made it ” or “you didnt make it”  They wont be performing on the live stage…youll prob see more clips of their judges home performances…Theyve aired versions of this episode twice already

  • Klaine

Guess my Directv hasnt updated yet because it says the Oct 31 show is a repeat of Auditions #5.

Nah, she/he was talking not about today repeat, but Wed, Thursday. 2 hours Wed to the finalists perform and two hours  thursday for what? reveal who the judges put through the next live show?? they can do it in 10-15 minutes with A LOT of drama.

  • wkstrack

So uh, is the first live show going to be a “Halloween” themed episode? But how is this going to reflect in the ratings? Do the people that watch XF are going to know about the schedule change and the show will be back on wednesday?

This was immediately my first thought as well!  I think this is a really bad move for the show.  Having a show on Halloween night, especially one scheduled at practically the last minute, is a terrible idea, even if Wednesday is their regular night.  It’s like scheduling a show the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving (which I wonder if they have done as well).  Kids (of all ages) have better things planned for that night than watching TV.  I know mine do.

Factor in the probability that many folks in the northeast will be without power for as long as the rest of the week thanks to Sandy, and that will affect TV viewership in general.

RE: Halloween.  Aren’t most of the kiddies back in the house by the time it gets dark anyways?  I figure by 8 PM most are back at home happily gorging on candy and watching TV.

But count me in as confused as to how they’re going to fill 2 hours on Thursday if they’re just picking Top 12.

  • jr8809

Maybe we actually can vote on Wednesday and on the 2 hr. result show the highest vote getters in each category automatically are in the top 12. The judges will then decide between the lowest vote getters in their category who to send home. Maybe they have a sing off or something.

It could be like what Idol does when they have that 2hr result show cutting it down to 24 to 12 and deciding who else to put through by having them sing again.

  • LeahKittyS

I don’t even watch The X Factor (my sister’s loving it), but I remember the schedule was kind of screwy with baseball last year, too. Here’s an idea. Since American Idol is sinking in the ratings and can’t seem to get its act together with the new judges, why not cancel it and move The X Factor to the spring? Maybe it could run longer, and it would still be competition for The Voice.

  • Incipit

Bwahahaha! Fair warning, the Idol Ad Execs and the Revenue Bean Counters are on their way to your house with many rolls of TP – They’re gonna pass it off as a Halloween Prank. Heh.

  • elliegrll

Considering that American Idol’s ratings are higher than the X Factor, and advertisers pay more to buy time on American Idol than they do to run ads during the XF, I doubt that this change will happen.  Aside from football, American Idol will be Fox’s number one show, again.

Fox isn’t exactly doing well this fall, they are experiencing more than a 21% drop in the demo year to year, so they need both the X Factor and American Idol on the schedule.

I might be wrong but I don’t think it’s a good idea to cancel a TV Show for the benefit of another show who has only half of the viewers. Just saying. LOL
