X Factor 1 – Top 11 – The Results!

THE X FACTOR: The Stereo Hogzz are eliminated on THE X FACTOR airing Thursday, Nov. 10 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. Also pictured: Steve Jones (R). CR: Ray Mickshaw / FOX.

I’ll be live blogging the X Factor Top 11 results right here. Jesse J. and Willow Smith are the musical guests.

Stereo Hogzz are eliminated

Poor poor Paula. For the 2nd week in a row, she has two of her acts in the bottom two, forcing her to choose a favorite.  So now, Paula has one act left, and I have a feeling Lakoda Rayne and their faux country stylings are NOT long for this world.

Simon made a HUGE mistake not re-thinking the contestant categories for American audiences.  Vocal harmony groups just don’t have the popularity here in the states that they used to…or that they still do across the pond.

But having even said THAT, groups are at a natural disadvantage.  It’s much easier to become invested in a single individual rather than a group.  I think groups in the UK even suffer from this disadvantage.   In the UK, until this year (and the popularity of Little Mix), girl groups were always the first to be eliminated.

Maybe Simon figures the groups are cannon fodder–I don’t know. But if he really wants the category to work, he’s got to make sure the talent is stellar and relevant.  Maybe the groups category should be a band category. Or at least allow a few instruments.  He needs to look at what’s on the US charts right now and follow through.

Back to Paula. Her meltdown tonight scripted or not,  is why she deserves the big bucks.  The entire scene was SOLID GOLD ENTERTAINMENT!  We love you Paula!

Steve Jones is like a character in a Saturday Night Live sketch. So wooden and ridiculous. He’s obviously super uncomfortable in a live situation. It’s all he can do to read the teleprompter and bellow at people to keep it moving.  I won’t be surprised if his contract isn’t renewed.  Nicole is awful too, but I think Simon rather likes having a dipsh*t on the panel. It makes him feel superior.

Group number. NOT LIP Syncing. Or that backing track is ONE HOT MESS.

LA says he thought some contestants were good and some were not. TRENCHANT ANALYSIS! He apologizes to Melanie for criticizing her last night. He’s changed his mind? “Melanie, I thought you were really good.” Did Simon kick his ass, or something?

And now, for the completely unnecessary recap of last night’s show.

Willow Smith sings her song “Fireball”. Sooooo. Is there anyone over 12 who is a fan of Willow Smith?

Jesse J. performs her new (terrible) single “Domino”. The judges give her a STANDING O. Steve Jones. attempt to flirt with Jesse J is rather sad.

Time for the results!

The finalists take the stage with their mentors.  In no particular order, Steve will reveal the 9 acts who are coming back next week. The B2 will perform for the judges, who will choose who goes home.

And as it turns out, once again, both acts in the bottom 2 are groups. POOR PAULA!   Time to re-tool Simon. This group sitch is not working.

Time to sing for SURVIVAL. The FINAL SHOWDOWN!

Lakoda Rayne – “No Air” by Jordin Sparks – Ugh. They sound terrible when they sing together. And I guess adding the twangy guitar makes it country? NOT.  Lucky for them, Stereo Hogzz will likely suck worse.

Stereo Hogzz – “You Are Not Alone” – Also really really really terrible. I would say the off key backgrounds are slightly more cringe-inducing than Lakoda Rayne’s.  I’m guessing they’ll go home.

PAULA BE CRAZY!  First, tissues in hand, Paula dramatically  refuses to vote.  “She’s not going to vote.” says Simon to a confused Steve.  But when Paula finds out that it means the Hogzz go home, she reluctantly votes to send Lakoda Rayne home, for reasons I still can’t figure out.   But then, Simon sends “The best band in the world”  home.  Bye Hogzz.

Result:

LA is sending home The Stereo Hogzz
Nicole is sending home The Stereo Hogzz
Paula is sending home – SHE REFUSES TO VOTE.  But then she sends home Lakoda Rayne
Simon sends home the Stereo Hogzz.
