I am so sad that the TPTB have axed the Mavid dance. Those 5-10 seconds weren’t hurting anyone. Michael looked sad, too. He didn’t throw in any of his usual goofy moves earlier in the song. Hopefully they can talk some sense into the producers. It’s seriously the highlight of the show for me! It’s pretty much one of the only spontaneous moments.

Guys, I think we need to start a petition to save the Mavid Dance! What do you think?

There is one (maybe two) on the AI site forums. I’ve yet to see anybody anywhere think it should go.

I agree with the majority about the dance being cut. I think it stinks but with there only being about a month left of the tour, I don’t think a petition will do any good. I guess the bright side is that we have the vids from here that MJ herself has recorded and the ones from other fans to go back and cherish the memories. That’s the only good way of looking at it. lol

That video of Billie Jean left me breathless. Holy smokes! That was too hot and intense for words, and David’s voice was in fine form indeed.

Wow, could they have looked more disinterested and unenthusiastic during PDSTM? Good for them (heh). It just emphasizes how much fun that group sing had become. I hope the fuddy duddy PBT re-think this.

I can’t help but think that if it were David and David doing the little schtick each night, TPTB would be loving it.

OK. So I decided I want to sign a petition. I don’t care if it does nothing other than make me feel like I’m doing what little I can. TPTB may not give it the time of day, but I think some angry fans need a place to vent.

Oh. My. David. David Cook. Yessiree, you’ve got IT, boy-o. Part of IT is how he understands what he’s singing about and somehow, someway, using magic rainbows perhaps, he MAKES us understand too. Well, I shall speak for myself – when David Cook sings, I feel like I haven’t felt in YEARS while listening to an artist. And I think things, about the song, about what he’s singing about. INTENSE thoughts & feelings happen for me when he sings. Well THAT can be addictive! So maybe I think & feel other things too, you know, besides about the song itself…heh…ahem…. He leaves it on the stage, swallows the song and spits it back out with his heart & soul attached (to paraphrase BlankSlate who said it so well!). David isn’t afraid to put himself out there, his heart & soul, and he’s got the talent to make it all so listen-able and watch-able. IMO, that’s a huge part of what puts him in a different class than most AI contestants.

SO. INNNNNIWAY. I can’t believe that TPTB nixed the Mavid Dances! What assholes. Party poopers. WTF? What was their reason, I wonder? How stupid would it sound if we were to hear it said out loud? WHATever, you morons. GEEZ.

The Mavid dance was the highlight of my summer – lol. What a rotten thing for the producers to do!!!!!!!!! Maybe I will protest by not attending the Kansas City concert. Just kidding about not going – but I am really really disappointed about this being cut out! Let these kids have a little fun!

Oh gosh, the fun went right out of that stupid song they have to sing every night. The assholes took the wind right out of their sails. I bet Mj CAN be a rebel but David C is signed to them so he will probably get in trouble if he rebels against them more so than MJ. I say anyone going to the tour get together with a whole bunch of people at the tour and the minute that is normally relegated to the Mavid dance – EVERYONE just start chanting MAVID MAVID MAVID MAVID MAVID UNTIL THE END OF THE SONG – WHO WANTS TO HEAR IT ANYHOW – THE MAVID MADE THAT SONG BEARABLE.

I’d really like to know the reason they came up with to stop the little dances. Whatever it was, they had to have looked like a**holes and pretty damn silly. MJ did not look happy.

MJ or anyone else-I noticed that the title of this post has Carly Smithson in it but there are no videos of any of her Worchester performances here. Did you get any of her songs on video (or is is just my computer)? Just wondering because I’d like to see it.

I got that Jolene, it is there and thanks for this. Hmmmm – a few people suggested that maybe an Idol or two complained that the song took away from them? I started watching the whole song and their is only one young lady who doesnt ever get into the fun, even when it is danced right up to her and is the only one dancing with a big smile on her face, really getting into it on the Mavids less dance? Anyways – seems to me like there’s real outrage among the fans. I doubt TPTB care, but in the petition comments, some people have actually talked about cancelling multiple shows they were planning to attend.

I just can’t comprehend why this little bit of fun would ever be an issue for TPTB. It’s absolutely ridiculous.

Oh I forgot MJ carried KLC across the stage sometimes – and Jason did crazy things sometimes -they were fun to watch too. TPTB are such party poopers. Signing the petition made me feel better at least. Let the idols be themselves and have fun I say.

I think canceling shows because of this is ridiculous. Sure I’m irritated but I purchased my tickets with the intention of wanting to see these people come out and sing, not a 5 second dance routine. The PDSTM from last night was boring and if that’s the way it has to continue I’ll simply get up and leave as soon as DC is done with his set *shrug*

If fans will feel better protesting, fine. IMO it won’t do much. But I really hope both Michael and David don’t react in a way that will get them in trouble with TPTB.

I shouldnt have said that about the “young lady” I was repeating a comment from the signature list, I am sure Kristy Lee loves the Mavid dance as much as anyone else, isnt that who they were referring too?? Hmmm which young lady? In watching the video they do look like they are just going thru the motions, the Davids, Mj, Jason, Kristy seem the saddest but you could see Mj just itching to get goofy but then holding back. Awww anyhow, I will miss the dance but I certainly wouldnt miss the concert because of it.

Like you Dante, I felt better signing the petition, not that it will do anything but I really looked forward to coming on Mjs and seeing what they came up with each night. I have watched or listened to the videos of all the songs so many many times, it was the only new thing to look forward to, a little extra added spark.

I think Trina’s suggestion makes the best sense. Simply leave before or during the song. The performers have all had their individual curtain calls anyway. The intent will be obvious and to the point. Not that I think TPTB will change their minds – they haven’t demonstrated that ability in the past. But I think the fans displeasure should not be ignored. I doubt that most of the performers would be offended. They probably would join the boycotters if they could.

The number of folks in the audience who are even aware of Mavid are probably a small percentage of the people there. I don’t think that little demonstration would have much impact. That may be what TPTB are worried about. The MANY people who aren’t in on the joke might find it disrespectful. You never know.

Too bad about the killjoys taking the fun out of the final group number. I guess if they won’t let Cook do duets in his set and they won’t let Carly, Jason & Cook do Barracuda then putting the kibosh on the little nightly dollop of Mavid fun is par for the course.

You mean the whole world doesnt come here? You are probably right, until this year I never would have thought to search down my favorite Idol or join their myspace but then I found this site thru youtube. David and MJs myspace has comment after comment about the Mavid dance going away though.

Fans DC’s and MJ’s sites may have a lot to say about the demise of Mavid but there are only 29 comments on the AI site, and I would think TPTB would be much more likely to be made aware of those comments over those posted on any outside sources. ( I still think TPTB would notice some sort of organized walk-out) It doesn’t look like a lot of the general fans have been moved by the news though to act in any capacity.
While I cannot imagine how anyone in the audience could possibly be insulted by any of the performers having a few moments of harmless fun onstage, I doubt anything the Mavid fans do will have an impact of TPTB ‘s decision. I just think they are blaming their decision on the fans because they don’t want something they didn’t create – and have no control over – to be getting so much attention.

Just to play devil’s advocate (and in this case it really is like being the devil) maybe some of the other Idols feel left out. Or maybe the audience doesn’t get it and finds it disrespectful or….odd. Or maybe TPTB feel like it’s too much attention on MJ. MJ dancing with Cook, MJ carrying Kristy around etc, etc. He already gets a special introduction for the first group number. Who knows. I can’t really think of anything else.

Bottom line – I wouldn’t let one thing like this spoil the show for you. My show was pre any sort of Mavid dance and I enjoyed the whole thing.

My guess is that you’ve hit the nail on the head. Since he isn’t one of the ‘signed’ from the group, they’d prefer he not get too much of the spotlight.

Hmmmm… TPTB once again confirm their cluelessness and give their music exec’s version of a Soup Nazi:

“Okay, now that you are over halfway through a grueling, nearly sold out tour that begins with a DANCING POP TART and your voices are going but you’re still doing press and signing autographs hours a day before AND after the show and singing your hearts out to the SAME DAMN songs every night and in general working your buttola’s off while we sit in our air-conditioned offices and count the receipts – QUIT HAVING FUN! STOP IT! And the spontaneity? STOP IT! NO SMILES FOR YOU! Doesn’t matter that the fans are loving it and this tour is for the fans! NO FUN FOR YOU! OR THE FANS! The POP TART can have fun, cause he’s PAYING us to have fun. Capisca?”

p.s. And ANY rocker who has to end every concert saying “Let’s give it up for Pop Tarts” – and does it with sincerity and enthusiasm every single night? Yeah, I’d give him ALOT of leeway, and maybe give him something big, like 5 seconds of spontaneity. Sheesh.
