    Ugh go back to Tuesday/Wednesday

  • http://www.facebook.com/jenny.williams.391 Jenny Williams

Before long, Idol won’t even be the number 1 Wednesday show anymore.

  • fantoo1

The good news is that it’s up by 6% in total viewers. The ratings usually go back up once the finals start(top 12 or whatever) so I think we will see a rise then.

  • ptslittlecomment

Idol got a nice plug from The View today, Seems Nikki has won Joy over and she is now watching the show as Elizabeth and Sherri have been. They called Nikki the new Simon and Mariah the new Paula.

I’d like it to move back as well, but FOX won’t do that. American Idol, I believe, is the network’s best performing show. Thursday night is the most competitive night in television, so FOX wants its best performing show on that night to handle the competition the best it can. What FOX needs is more competitive programming, so it doesn’t have to rely only on Idol.

    Yes.

Last night’s @AmericanIdol grew +6% from last week’s prelim ratings (14.2 vs 13.4 Mil viewers)! Idol has now been #1 for six Weds in a row.

Just read some scathing reviews of last night’s show.  Obviously some in the media aren’t to thrilled with the new and improved American Idol and the girls got some blanket reviews as BORING.

  • http://twitter.com/bagel08 John S

There will always be mixed opinions. The majority of the reviews I saw loved the judges(particularly Keith and Nicki) and thought there was some talent. Kree Harrison and Amber Holcomb especially got some great reviews! The judges are getting some well deserved positive press right now.

I do like the new judges but I can see how the girls could have been seen as boring. None of the girls really stepped above the rest of the crowd and the song choices in most cases were on the weaker side.

They get more advertising money on Thursday’s, because that’s the day when movie studios buy ad time.

Thursday’s aren’t that competitive anymore, NBC’s entire lineup on Thursday is horrible, 8 o’clock is bad for ABC, and Grey’s ratings are falling.

  • georgespelvin2

Actually, the reason they are on Thursday is that Thursday shows command the highest ad rates.  This is because it’s the last night of the week people are still watching TV in large numbers and planning their weekends, so movie studios, retail outlets, etc. will pay top dollar to reach viewers.  If Fox could figure out a way to do a 2 hour results show every Thursday, they would.

  • elliegrll

The show being up in total viewers, but down in the demo, isn’t a great thing, but hopefully it’s a sign that the demo number will be raised, when the final numbers are released.

  • http://twitter.com/Sassycatz Sassycatz

Yes, and that’s why they have their highest rated show scheduled for that day.

  • MellyPer1692

Hmmm…the Ash Wednesday excuse isn’t in play or any other holiday and ratings went down further. It will be interesting to see what tonight’s show does.

  • bridgette12

Can’t use global warming, mayan calendar or asteriod flyby as an excuse either.

  • elliegrll

How about the excuse that a show falling 5% from one week to the next isn’t a big deal?

  • http://twitter.com/bagel08 John S

The total viewers were up by a million.

  • curly_yenta

The 18-49 demo was down again and that’s the only thing advertisers are concerned with.  It’s a continual decline for Idol, week after week.

  • http://twitter.com/svmreiter Susan Reiter

The girls last night blended all together for me . . . after about the third one I couldn’t even stay focused.  I feel no connection to any of the talent or the judges at this point.

  • MellyPer1692

How about the excuse that a show falling 5% from one week to the next isn’t a big deal?

Well, considering that the previous week the show had its lowest demo numbers since 2002, this weeks decline is a big deal. When the shows demo ratings decrease each week, I think it’s something Fox has to look at. Tis season demo numbers just for Wednesdays have gone
    6.0>5.5=5.5>4.6>4.3>4.1

  • http://twitter.com/shoriagirl Shoriagirl

I suspect that the demo decline is just because every week some number of viewers turns 50 and ages out of the demo, so to speak.

  • MellyPer1692

I suspect that the demo decline is just because every week some number of viewers turns 50 and ages out of the demo, so to speak.”

Well, yeah that’s the problem. The core audience is just getting older and the show isn’t picking up young viewers to take their place.

  • http://twitter.com/bagel08 John S

I read somewhere that the 18-34 demo is up this year.

  • http://twitter.com/bagel08 John S

Just like any other season, there is usually a gradual decline every week. This season is no different.
