As Tessanne Chin gets ready to go out with her fellow The Voice alums on summer tour, the Season 5 winner releases the cover of her new album!

The singer tweets, “SURPRISE! The cover of my debut album Count On My Love…track list coming soon.”

For now, you can pre-order Count on My Love and receive downloads to two tracks: her coronation song, “Tumbling Down” and debut single, “Everything Reminds Me of You.” The record will be available everywhere on July 1.

Meanwhile, catch Tessanne on tour, beginning tomorrow night (6/21) in San Antonio, TX, as The Voice summer tour lands in Click for details and a full schedule.  The lineup includes the Top 3 from seasons 5 & 6, Season 1 alum Dia Frampton season 6 fan favorite, Jake Barker, and viewer-voted season 6 alum, Kristen Merlin.

ETA: I agree with many of the commenters. Republic is fulfilling the prize promised to Tessanne when she won The Voice but it’s 10 days before release date and there has been virtually no promo. They don’t care about her. When she returns to Jamaica after the tour, hopefully she’ll at least have a higher profile there resulting in better gigs. Because I expect her to disappear completely from the US entertainment scene.

  • girlygirl

So the album drops in 10 days? Where is the promo for it?

  • AHotDamnMess

Exactly. If it wasnt for this article I wouldnt have even known it was being released.

  • carola99

I like Tessanne but I am not sure about her singles. I just don´t think those songs are gonna go anywhere.

  • http://www.celebritybug.net Celebrity Bug

‘The Voice’ just continues to show why ‘American Idol’ remains in a league of its own as far as singing competitions go. Nice cover though!

  • tripp_ncwy

I am guessing the tour is her promo.

  • tripp_ncwy

    Why is she sleeping?

  • Guest

Tessanne needs a new stylist. She looks middle age with that style on The Voice. Let her hair down and all black. She really is gorgeous. I made a album cover for her…

  • Eilonwy_has_an_emu

A couple weeks ago, her label sent a press release to various music writers. It included the news that the physical CD will be sold only at Walmart.

  • ptebwwong

I’ve seen no promo either. Sadly, I think most talent show winners now will receive very little promo like this & what happened to Candice. I think the labels won’t really try unless they see a lot of reason to (Ex. potential, sales, buzz, etc.).

  • Marko

Xtina gave her a poison apple.

  • Lexie O’Neill

I like this much better…if only for the strange reason that, given her last name is Chin, her actual chin shouldn’t be the center of the photo. Wish her well!

  • samuelgrant

While it is boring, at least the cover doesn’t make me want to vomit like Melanie’s.

  • Kirsten

The singer tweets, “SURPRISE! The cover of my debut album Count On My Love…track list coming soon.”

I am surprised. I’m surprised she’s getting an album at all.

Good thing she’s tweeting some promo because her label is treating the album like a state secret. Maybe Snowden can leak some info about it?

  • Chris

Well it doesn’t help that republic records didn’t send either songs to radio. She’d be better off indie. Nobody has her songs in the USA.

  • Chris

Right. Republic only treats voice winners well when it’s country.

  • Chris

It would help if republic would’ve tried sending music to radio for it’s non country winners.

  • Eilonwy_has_an_emu

Republic sent a press release back a couple weeks ago (I’m still on their list, but that tells you how low on the food chain they were going, as I doubt I ever had more than 12 regular readers before pulling the plug on that project). Apparently nobody in music writing or blogging felt moved to cover it.

When even the most obscure music bloggers shrug and say “naaah” to printing news about your artist, it’s a good bet that the decision-makers at larger and more popular outlets aren’t returning your calls.

  • Chris

I’m not saying Tessanne would do better with a better label/manager. But this is just another example where Republic Records doesn’t care about the show. The only exceptions are country contestants because they deal with Scott Borcetta(sp?). But every voice contestant who signed has had issues. Javier/Dia/Jeremiah/juliet/Xenia/etc. that’s why Michelle probably stayed indie and why jacquie wisely signed with atlantic. I feel for this years winner already. Now watch Republic records send a song to radio when the album is out.

  • Bunny391848

Well Chris Mann did quite well with Republic and is making a 2nd album with them .

  • girlygirl

I thought he only released an EP?

  • Bunny391848

He released a full album, “Roads” in Oct 2012. It reached #1 on the Heatseakers chart. He also had 2 PBS specials and a year long tour.

  • Eilonwy_has_an_emu

Chris Mann’s Roads had 11 songs so it’s definitely a full album. Its peak BB 200 position was #175, so sales were not enormous, but he’s in a niche, and Voice alumni have always tended to sell like their genre and promo level, rather than as if they had a passionate fanbase.

Judging from his Twitter, he stays busy. It’s just all in areas I wouldn’t follow to know about.

  • girlygirl

    nvm

  • girlygirl

Ah, thanks. For some reason I thought it was an EP. However, he is very much a niche (AC) artist who isn’t going to be expected to get mainstream radio play, so his situation is different from, say Cassadee and Danielle, or (presumedly) Tessane.

  • Eilonwy_has_an_emu

What music genre is Tessanne Chin supposed to be? Everything about her since winning has been exuding “ballad-belting diva from the early 1990s,” which confuses me, as there’s no way that was going to be commercial, and I thought I remembered fans during the show saying that wasn’t who she was.

(If I sound snarky, it’s not at her or you, but at myself for sitting here eating homemade carrot halwa instead of making dinner.)

  • girlygirl

I assume they will promote her to HAC radio (if they promote her at all)

  • Eilonwy_has_an_emu

Why? “Everything Reminds Me of You” isn’t HAC in sound at all.

  • Trina

I’m assuming she’s going to flop, and its pathetic how UR isnt even pretending to care – but as bad as all this is somewhere Jermaine is envious that she’s even getting an album.

Chris Mann is a niche artist but its a niche thats served him well and its a great sign that hes even getting a sophomore album under Universal. In terms of Voice winners much less lower placed finishers thats a pretty good accomplishment.

  • girlygirl

is that the single she performed on The Voice a few weeks back that the label didn’t even send to radio and wasn’t even available on iTunes right away? or is that a different song?

But my comment is based on the fact that 99% of reality singing show contestants are either sent to country or to HAC radio. And we know she isn’t going the country route :) For example, everyone was talking about how Jacqui Lee might break through on CHR radio. But what happened? Her single was sent to HAC radio (which TBH is where it should have been sent)

  • Bunny391848

Just realized that only 4 “Voice ” alumni are signed to Republic (Not counting Josh Kaufman) – Tessanne, Cassedee Pope, Chris Mann, and Raelynn…..I know at one point of time Dia Frampton, Xenia, Juliet Simms, Vicci Martinez, and some others I can’t think of were signed to Republic and either left or got dropped.

  • Eilonwy_has_an_emu

Yup, that’s the song. It’s not like they can use her coronation song as the lead single, since it was distinctly not one of Ryan Tedder’s finest moments and was DOA.

Thing is, “TPTB automatically send stuff to HAC radio” doesn’t answer my question about what genre Chin’s music is. It reminds me that label suits run a high level of stupid (or a stupid level of high) at many times… but I don’t think they intend to send a song to radio at all. Remember, this is the album that will have a physical version sold only at Walmart!

  • Celesm

I’m pretty sure the only one you missed is Danielle, but that’s because she is listed only on Big Machine’s website (which is kinda weird because Cassadee is on both)

I’m surprised Vicci and Dia got dropped. I remember one of Vicci’s singles doing well on radio and reading that Dia’s album was selling pretty well in Asia

  • girlygirl

Dia’s album did not sell at all in the US, so it wasn’t a surprise that she lost her deal. Did Vicci even put out an album? I know her single cracked the Top 40 on the radio HAC chart (and I think another format, but I forget if was AAA or alt rock or what)

  • Celesm

I guess that if you are a former Voice contestant and want to get post show promo from you label you either have to be a country artist (like Cassadee, Danielle or the Swons), in a niche genre (like Chris Mann) or stay as far away from UR as possible (like Jacquie)
Well, at least Tessanne and Josh will get the Voice tour. That’s more than Jermaine ever got

Speaking of the tour, Pip (from season 02), Cody Belew (season 03) and Caroline Pennell (season 05) announced they are also going to be one the tour on certain dates. Other previous contestants may also join the tour but those are the only people I follow on twitter that have announced it

It looks like the producers (or whoever organized the tour) are trying to make up for the lack of tours in previous seasons with this one

  • Celesm

According to wikipedia she released an EP and a full album in 2012

  • Bunny391848

Audra Mclaughlin also tweeted that she’ll be making a special appearance at the Atlantic City show.

  • Chris

You are not snarky LOL. But I think we are basically on the same page. Obviously, they have zero intentions. Which is like most of the contestants they have signed. I excpect Tessanne will probably do much like Dia did. Go back regather and go back to the music you were making before the show and stay indie. I remember dia sent a lot of her album songs (herself) to various radio outlets in Asia and developed a following there. But, for the Few USA fans(like me) her music has always been released here. So we will have that and she’ll probably show up at a few festivals.

Sorry if the grammar is terrible.

(She also has a friend in Will, who is working his networks to continue releasing his own stuff).

  • Yes Man

I imagine she’d be a real challenge for the label to market. Usually an artist tries to make themselves look as young as possible and yet the reverse was always true with Tesanne on the show. I couldn’t believe when I found out she was only 28 years old! You’d think she was a 40 year-old soccer mom if no one ever told you otherwise.

  • Kirsten

Right. Republic only treats voice winners well when it’s country.

That’s because Scott is responsible for that promo and Scott is a machine…a machine with batteries that never end…he makes the Terminator look like a lightweight.

  • Anny_nanny

I love the thread of the Voice, it is almost always a game of “who are these people?”

  • Marko

I thought The Voice season 5 winner was Adam Levine.

  • Incipit

Good to know it’s not just me with that reaction to the names. I can’t connect them to a breakout song or any reason to recall what they did on the show…the format doesn’t even seem to be designed that way – it’s always “Who are these people? smh.

  • Anny_nanny

    Brunette or blonde?

  • Eilonwy_has_an_emu

It’s maybe easier to recognize them if you actually watched the show?

It’s true that The Voice winners don’t get the massive pop culture attention that Idol winners used to, but I’d bet that Idol winners from S9 on were basically “who are these people?” to most music-buyers at the start of their album launch. McCreery and P2 have gotten a lot of opportunities to develop name recognition through touring and radio play because they came off the show with good enough sales and a “marketable” enough sound that these opportunities were available. The world doesn’t really wait with bated breath on Lee DeWyze, Candice Glover, and Caleb Johnson, though.

Javier Colon, Jermaine Paul, and Tessanne Chin all had difficult-to-market sounds and got much more limited opportunities. Cassadee Pope and Danielle Bradbery actually got marketed.

  • Anny_nanny

I watch blind auditions on YT, and then inspect those who has liked me. Of course, we had not broadcast this show on our TV, and it is not so interesting, that I began to seek full episodes online.
And I like Lee and Crystal. >.<

  • Shalom185

There hasn’t been any public promo, just the press release that it will be in Walmart only.

  • Shalom185

Haven’t seen anything except for the press release about Walmart

  • Shalom185

I can’t believe how old she dresses and styles herself. I don’t think she realizes how much that’s turned off a kazillion young fans.

  • Shalom185

    That’s a shame.

  • Shalom185

Yeah is remember. Walmart is labeling it an “exclusive” but in her case,we know what that means.

  • Shalom185

But I’m surprised how many of these artists or their managers don’t get that yet. It’s up to them to create the buzz. Some of them think Twitter followers are all you need.

  • Shalom185

I heard all the songs on the album (supposedly all of them) and they’re all pretty good, they are much better than the two singles she’s had, but the problem is where to send them. Some of them are definitely AC but unless she gets some remixes, none of them are CHR.

  • Shalom185

She supposedly has a manager but I think that’s a road manager from Jamaica. Certainly nobody stepped in to fill the promo void in place of Republic. I just came back from looking at her YouTube channel, I’m shocked. Almost nothing there.

  • Shalom185

It is a nice cover right.

  • Shalom185

    lol

  • Shalom185

    LOL!!

  • Shalom185

That’s a good look! Much better!

  • breakdown

Chris Mann has carved out a nice career for himself in his niche.

  • George

Like how Adele dresses very young? Not that I am comparing the two. Labels make hits and her label doesn’t seem interested in backing her. I love every track on her album. Its not the cookie cutter same ol’ that you hear everyday. Plus, check out snipets from The Voice Tour she sings rings around the others.
