Scotty McCreery To Release Sophomore Album on October 15, 2013? (UPDATED with VIDEO)

With the new video for his current single on the horizon (check out the teaser here), news of the rollout for Season 10 Idol champ Scotty McCreery’s new music continues to surface, now with news of a release date for his sophomore album.

The upcoming release schedule on the Hits Daily Double site has Scotty’s sophomore album (title TBD) slated for release on October 15th, a week after Season 12 American Idol champ Candice Glover and Season 3 The Voice champ Cassadee Pope release their respective albums. That date would just over 2 years since the release of Scotty’s platinum debut album Clear As Day, which according to HDD has sold 1.177 million copies in the US. It would also be just under a year after the release of Scotty’s gold-certified Christmas With Scotty McCreery album, which sold 348k copies during the 2012 holiday season.

The HDD schedule currently lists no other albums to be released on that date, but the Pause & Play site has a more comprehensive listing that includes the new Pearl Jam album Lightning Bolt as a confirmed release on the same date, as well as a comeback album from 90s R&B supergroup TLC and a new studio album from Grammy- and Dove Award-winning CCM singer/songwriter Natalie Grant. Pearl Jam’s album, its 1st in 4 years, seems like the likeliest bet for the all-genre #1 (their previous album Backspacer sold 189k 1st week) but Scotty should safely secure the #1 spot on the Billboard country albums chart.

“See You Tonight” has been t40 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart (where it is currently #38) since its 8th week out, but is looking to move into the Mediabase t40 this week, its 17th week out. Its movement as been admittedly slow, though this week looks better so far. October 15th is 10 weeks away. If SYT can pick up the pace and average about 500k in AI gains and/or 100+ in spin bullet per week for the next 10 weeks, it should be t30 on the country charts by the time the album comes out. Although labels usually prefer to wait for a t20 hit before releasing an album, Scotty’s AI fanbase and the TV gigs he should be able to line up by virtue of his national name recognition put him in a better position to sell than your typical rising country act.
