Scotty McCreery To Release Sophomore Album on October 15, 2013? (UPDATED with VIDEO)

With the new video for his current single on the horizon (check out the teaser here), news of the rollout for Season 10 Idol champ Scotty McCreery’s new music continues to surface, now with news of a release date for his sophomore album.

The upcoming release schedule on the Hits Daily Double site has Scotty’s sophomore album (title TBD) slated for release on October 15th, a week after Season 12 American Idol champ Candice Glover and Season 3 The Voice champ Cassadee Pope release their respective albums. That date would just over 2 years since the release of Scotty’s platinum debut album Clear As Day, which according to HDD has sold 1.177 million copies in the US. It would also be just under a year after the release of Scotty’s gold-certified Christmas With Scotty McCreery album, which sold 348k copies during the 2012 holiday season.

The HDD schedule currently lists no other albums to be released on that date, but the Pause & Play site has a more comprehensive listing that includes the new Pearl Jam album Lightning Bolt as a confirmed release on the same date, as well as a comeback album from 90s R&B supergroup TLC and a new studio album from Grammy- and Dove Award-winning CCM singer/songwriter Natalie Grant. Pearl Jam’s album, its 1st in 4 years, seems like the likeliest bet for the all-genre #1 (their previous album Backspacer sold 189k 1st week) but Scotty should safely secure the #1 spot on the Billboard country albums chart.

“See You Tonight” has been t40 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart (where it is currently #38) since its 8th week out, but is looking to move into the Mediabase t40 this week, its 17th week out. Its movement as been admittedly slow, though this week looks better so far. October 15th is 10 weeks away. If SYT can pick up the pace and average about 500k in AI gains and/or 100+ in spin bullet per week for the next 10 weeks, it should be t30 on the country charts by the time the album comes out. Although labels usually prefer to wait for a t20 hit before releasing an album, Scotty’s AI fanbase and the TV gigs he should be able to line up by virtue of his national name recognition put him in a better position to sell than your typical rising country act.

Known cuts &/or cowrites for Scotty’s upcoming album, which will be produced by Frank Rogers (who is a regular producer for Brad Paisley, Darius Rucker, and Josh Turner) include:

“Before Midnight” (Scotty McCreery/Jon Nite/Jimmy Robbins)
“Can You Feel It” (Zach Crowell/Ashley Gorley/Scotty)
“Carolina Eyes” (Aaron Goodvin/Adam Sanders/Cole Swindell)
“The Dash” (Preston Brust/Kyle Jacobs)
“See You Tonight” (the lead single, cowritten by Zach Crowell, Ashley Gorley, and Scotty)
“Looking For A Girl” (Ashley Gorley/Kelley Lovelace/Scotty)
“Maybe I’ll See You There” (Ashley Gorley/Kelley Lovelace/Scotty)
“Miss Hit & Run” (Jim Beavers/Scotty/Frank Rogers
“Prayed For” (Ashley Gorley/Kelley Lovelace/Scotty)
“Rock This Night” (Brett Beavers/Jim Beavers)
“Suntan” (Dallas Davidson/Jon Pardi/Philip White)

What a nice co incident. I´m fan of Scotty and PJ and in both cases it has been a very, very long wait that felt like never ending waiting. And now both their new albums on the same date… that just has to mean I´m in for a treat. Also I´m stil believing in See You Tonight will move up the charts.. So all in all I enjoyed this news and will look forward to having new music to enjoy in a couple of months

His sister all but confirmed it on twitter. I tweeted the link to this page to Scotty and since she follows me she saw it and responded: “Ashley McCreery @ashleymccreery2: @Beckers1982 as far as I know yes:) the songs I’ve heard are super super good!!”. Ashley has since deleted the tweet. Probably cause she wasn’t supposed to confirm anything yet. Hope she didnt get in trouble. I’m hoping she’s 100% right on this. Though I’d love for Scotty to confirm it hisself.

I would bet more album release dates will start to pop up, so who knows whether there will be any strong competition for a high BB rank that debut week. October definitely seems like a better month to release an album than waiting until November if you want to try and guarantee a Top 10 spot on the BB chart.

Hopefully Scotty’s single will be doing better by then. I’m sure his team has some good promo lined up for him around the album release date.

I’m sure Scotty will do better than most sophomore idol albums. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was top 3.

Excited for new music! Praying that he gets the numbers and radio position he needs…

As a fan, I was curious about the sales of most of the sophomore albums for Idols. Many of them have not sold more than 150,000 copies overall. However, I think it’s hard for Scotty to be in the top 3. Kelly, Carrie, & Daughtry all sold platinum with their 2nd albums. I think the Idol alum with the 4th best sophomore album in terms of sales is Fantasia whose album went gold (Wikipedia says it’s sold 530,000).

I think Scotty’s new album will sell well. For him to have a platinum album again, he will need good promo, label help, & most importantly singles that do well on the charts like he had for his debut album.

I expect Scotty’s sales will drop, just like most Idols have seen sales drop from their 1st album to their 2nd album. The question will be whether it is a small drop or a sharp one. The fact that he is still getting strong promotion and his music still does get radio play (even if not as much as his fans would hope) suggests that he’s got a very good chance to avoid the huge drop in 2nd album sales that many other Idols have had. TBH, I think that if this 2nd album can at least go gold, he’ll be fine. I don’t expect another platinum album — if he manages to get another one, that would be fantastic, but I think gold is more realistic goal :)

  • ptebwwong

I agree. I’m not expecting platinum sales for Scotty especially with how many albums do go platinum every year (usually less than 20). I do think a realistic goal would be for the album to go gold. I think it is reachable & if it happens I think he will be guaranteed another album with the label.

Love Scotty music. October 15th can’t come fast enough. Just seeing the titles of the new songs and co-writes get us Scotty fan’s going.. Scotty keeps saying how this CD will be more him. So I believe that sales will be good. With young and older fans buying up a storm to support this talented country singer. Yey.

  • elliegrll

Based on the amount of copies that he sold of his current single, I think he’ll sell around 80K copies of his album during the first week. That’s more than decent. After that, it’s all up to his current song getting airplay.

  • Madilo

I really hope he does well, i hate all the talk about somophore slump huh.
i hope radio will play his songs too because that helps a lot.

  • L. R. M. L.

Agree that unless there would be a complete turn over with radio, Scotty will most likely not match Carrie or Kelly. But keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for #3.

  • L. R. M. L.

I hesitate to ask because I’ll probably sound very dumb but who is PJ?

  • ptebwwong

PJ is Pearl Jam which happens to have their new album out the same week as Scotty.

  • L. R. M. L.

Thanks. Now why didn’t I think of them.

  • SaSa8

Really excited about all the news for Scotty’s next album. Feeling positive about sales but it is hard to predict. Hoping SYT will be higher on charts with more radio play to help the sales.

  • Sharron Gail Taylor
