One Direction Win Their First BRIT Award, Announce UK & Ireland Arena Tour!

1D win their first Brit Award!
It’s the night of BRIT (British Recording Industry Trust) Awards.

One Direction have just won their very first Brit Award – their single “What Makes You Beautiful” has been named Best British Single. This award is one of the three Brit Awards decided by the public vote (British Single, British Group, and British Breakthrough Act).

British Single (TOP 10 singles based on commercial radio airplay and sales are automatically nominated)

One Direction – What Makes You Beautiful

Adele – Someone Like You
Ed Sheeran – The A Team
Example – Changed The Way You Kissed Me
Jessie J ft Bob – Price Tag
JLS ft Dev – She Makes Me Wanna
Military Wives/Gareth Malone – Wherever You Are
Olly Murs ft Rizzle Kicks – Heart Skips A Beat
Pixie Lott – All About Tonight
The Wanted – Glad You Came

“What Makes You Beautiful” was written by Rami Yacoub, Carl Falk and Savan Kotecha and produced by Rami Yacoub and Carl Falk.

Uncle Simon’s reaction:

Simon Cowell @SimonCowell
Fantastic news. Congrats @onedirection I am very proud of you. @TheXFactor @BRIT_Awards

One Direction, JLS, Olly Murs, Little Mix, Marcus Collins, Cher Lloyd and Alexandra Burke represented the X Factor on the red carpet. Olly Murs also performed. Daily Mail has pictures from the red carpet and recap of the show.

I fully expect HQ videos of all performances to appear on “The Brit Awards” YouTube Channel sooner or later.

But, until then:

Congrats boys!  And they accomplished another feat here in the US.  New York’s Z100 added the song to their playlist today!!  I guess that means that many other radio stations will follow their lead and add the song too.

Good for them. They campaigned really hard for the Brit (like “please please please we really want it” type of campaign) and their fans came through. They woulda been massively disappointed if they didn’t get it.

Adele’s voice doesn’t quite sound the same anymore. Hopefully it gets better with time. She’s still amazing though.

1D beat Adele. Oh dear, Britain. Why? Least we have dignity in America and gave the awards to Adele.

Because, uh, Adele doesn’t have well trained and eager fanbase that would click, click, click all the time? She probably wasn’t TOP 3 in voting. One Direction, JLS, Olly Murs and The Wanted all have very active online fanbases.

I personally think all nominated songs were great, I only dislike that Military Wives charity single. I tried to listen to it once and didn’t make it through.

I actually love What Makes You Beautiful. Its a great song and gets lots of Play on Sirius Hits 1. I’m happy for them.

It looks like 1D dominated the Brit Awards vote with 89%. No one stood a chance against them.

89% of the votes for Best British Single were for One Direction! #proudof1D

1D are doing very well everywhere, but an award determined by internet voting doesn’t have the value that it pretends to have. ‘Best Single’ winner at the Brit  Awards  should be called ‘ Most rabid fanbase’ award. There is nothing wrong with it, but the title is misleading as it implies critical acclaim that it doesn’t deserve.
Anyway, congratulations to 1D for winning the rabid fanbase award…

I just took a closer look at the boys from last night’s red carpet and damn, they were dressed to the nines. So classy and posh. Their wardrobe must cost a fortune. I think they have sponsors that provide clothes for them. All 5 boys are fit and pretty, management should look for modelling gig for them.

I so remember the teenage hysteria when New Kids on the Block were all the rage in the late 80s…didn’t know a tween or teen back then whose walls weren’t covered in posters, who didn’t buy anything (in triplicate so that they would have an opened souvenir) that the boys put out.  I still remember being around some of the kids who would argue on end for who was the bestest of the bunch.  And I am sure that many other boy groups had the same kind of response….some things never change.  It’s interesting, too, that the manufactured groups (it was the Monkees in my day) made up of the “most appealing” rather than those with talent that tended to make the greatest impact.  What better way for TV programs (Brits, People’s Choice, etc.) to get lots of viewers than to highlight anything the tweenies find heart-throbbing.  Nothing has changed in 50 years!

I figured they would win by a landslide – they have a heck of a fan base and it just keeps growing.  Simon’s little money maker just keeps spitting the bucks out.  Sadly, I am getting ready to add to the pot too, once that album hits here.
