New American Idol Promo Revisits Confrontation (VIDEO)

Really American Idol? Insteading of pimping the TALENT, you are using last week’s icky face off between judge Harry Connick Jr. and finalist Quentin Alexander to promote Wednesday’s show?

Didn’t the Mariah/Nicki meltdowns of Season 12 teach you anything? Awkward and uncomfortable moments turn folks away from Idol. They don’t pull people in. Reminding folks of the moment–or even worse, promoting it to viewers who didn’t see it in the first place–isn’t going to attract more eyeballs to the show.

I mean, do you REALLY think an ex-viewer is going to see this promo and think WOW I HAVE BEEN MISSING SO MUCH SINCE I STOPPED WATCHING IDOL! I THINK I’LL TUNE IN.

I think not. American Idol ratings hit historical lows last week. Now the producers just seem desperate.

By the way, I found this video at US Magazine. Idol handed them an “exclusive.” The spot will air tonight on FOX during the broadcast of Gotham. Not that any of us will see it. We’ll all be watching The Voice.

American Idol also posted a video on the confrontation on their official Youtube channel. American Idol airs Wednesday at 8/7c pm on FOX.

Watch the promo here.

UPDATE!

Mentor Scott Borchetta NOT DOWN WITH THIS MANIPULATIVE PROMO.
