Here are the Overnight Household ratings for The Voice. It’s down from the Season 2 regular premire, but up from where the competition reality show ended its run in April.  I’ll post the overnight demos when they become available. Via Marc Berman

NBC took the crown last night courtesy of the two-hour season-premiere of singing competition The Voice, which averaged a solid 8.0 rating/12 share in the overnights from 8-10 p.m. The Voice was the standout in each of the four half-hours, peaking at an 8.5/13 at 9 p.m. as follows:

The Voice (NBC)
8:00 p.m.: 7.1/11 (#1)
8:30 p.m.: 7.9/12 (#1)
9:00 p.m.: 8.5/13 (#1)
9:30 p.m.: 8.3/12 (#1)

Comparably, The Voice returned to the Monday 8-10 p.m. block with a 10.6/16 in the overnights on 2/06/12, which was one night after it opened its season on Super Bowl Sunday. But versus the final four episodes of that season (6.3 rating), this was an increase of 27 percent.

Too many singing shows, and this one now comes on year round. NBC will kill the show with their mess.

Yup. And after the chairs are done spinning, The Voice verges on depressing.

Casting with people who’d already had a low-selling major-label album or a solid indie career had potential for an interesting “second chance” approach. But the aftermath of the show is another low-selling major-label album or back to trudging along in the indie trenches…

How does one cheer for that? YES! I’m panting to vote so that y’all can win the show and then go back to doing whatever you were doing, since the win means pretty much nothing for your career. Happy second chance!

With Idol, there’s a history of higher-placing finalists building music careers that range from “pretty decent” to “wowza,” and X Factor has the X Factor UK track record as a sign that there might be some success in the future for the final four or so. It’s a lot easier to root when there’s a chance of a home run or at least a bunch of solid doubles, rather than strike-out after strike-out.

The Voice ratings are good, considering that it went against Monday Night Football(double header).   I recorded The Voice and watched football.

No wackiness on this show and it will hurt ratings. I don’t think many people will care anymore about the bromance between blake and adam. Unless they focus on the contestants, which it doesn’t look like they will seeing that they are adding more on each team hence more of a gap between seeing a single singer twice, this show will fail compared to other 2 shows. Idol is very contestant focused and will have a really distracting sideshow with Nicki Minaj and Mariah. X Factor made some good changes IMO with judges and new categories and both will make show fresh and interesting.

Reality is, there is no interest in a “show-war” like this one.  It’s gonna be very, very, very difficult to find a contestant who can carry a show over his shoulders.  And the judges are in because of the money (as Steven revealed)… Sooner or later they will come to the conclusion that they have to put the show on hold for at least 5 years, so real and new talent can be available to be found.

The numbers aren’t all that good in the demo for nothing else being on. I expected a drop, as I haven’t been seeing the promo like they had the past two seasons. Nothing on the Universal Television cable channels, I’ve seem a big push for Revolution instead of The Voice. No big radio promo campaign either. But, its lower than I thought, as I was thinking maybe a 20% drop. Going to be interesting to see what happens when CBS rolls out the new season in two weeks.
