Lee DeWyze – New Song in St. Louis – VIDEO

Lee Dewyze began his summer tour this week, and on Monday (June 20) he debuted a brand new song in St. Louis MO. The song is so new, it doesn’t have a name (or one Lee mentioned on stage)

Check out the Season 9 American Idol winner performing a new tune for the crowd below.

This is “Princess” on crack. The chorus is repetitive, but it’s catchy as hell. I know I’m gonna have it stuck in my head for the rest of the day. Lee sounds amazing too. Love it.

Gotta say though, what i learned from most of Lee’s songs, he wants you to stay and he likes dreaming.

  • GwendolynD

    I love live Lee.

  • idolhound2011

I like Lee, but this song is too repetitive. I like pretty eyes better. I bet theres nothing like being there. My turn July 1st.

  • artemis

I love this! Passionate, angsty, and yes, catchy as hell!

This is actually the second stop on his tour, which began in Columbus Ohio the day before. The Old Rock House in St. Louis was packed, according to a professional photographer who was there to record the event (great pictures!):

Opening act Corey Crowder tweeted this picture of the crowd:

Some of his tour stops have been sold out for awhile-I hope they add more dates! He’s skipped the South except for 5 dates in Texas.

Lee is a true songwriter. Those wheels are always turning.

I’m quite verklempt that I can’t attend either of the shows this weekend that are within 70 miles of my house, but no matter how many times I do the math, things just don’t add up. :( Oh well. Maybe DH will have found a job by the next time he swings round my way.

  • nncw

The tune reminds me of Rolling in the Deep by Adele but I agree it is a bit too repetitive with the lyrics.

Just listened to “Pretty Eyes” and loved it. I have to confess this is the first thing I’ve heard from Lee since Idol. Is Pretty Eyes part of an album or is it available for download anywhere?

OK. Just listened to the new song, and I really like it, too. Does Lee have an album coming out soon?

  • tigervixxxen

Mike M, Lee released the “Live it Up” album as his post Idol debut. However the two songs you mentioned are recent new additions and we are all anxious to see if they end up on a forthcoming album or what plans Lee has with this new music.

I really like the vibe of the new song and it contrasts nicely with Pretty Eyes. I’m hoping for more videos and to hear it live to really get a sense for the lyrics but so far so good!

Lee really outdid himself last night in St Louis and did a 16 song set! I’d be more than pleased to personally hear that many songs in Milwaukee and Rockford this weekend. :)

  • heat914

What I find unbelievable is how Lee can write a song and perform it so quickly…it’s not like he’s had much downtime. I really like the new song and even if it is repetitive it is repetition that gets most songs stuck in your head. The crowds seem to be loving him and he seems to be having a great time! My turn 6/27…can’t wait :)

  • annie12120

Excellent! This is the Lee sound I love – angsty, growly with a rock vibe

  • anniem47

I love this new song! It has a really great melody and the performance was so passionate and so powerful. I hope Lee keeps cranking out new songs, because he’s a fabulous songwriter. Every new song leaves me wanting more, anxious to hear what’s next.
I recently had the priveledge of seeing Lee perform live and if you haven’t done so yet, you have no idea what you’re missing….go!!!

  • stay4awhile

So happy to get new Lee material…love it :)

  • Ladydove2

It sounds repetitive but catchy and I liked it. Hopefully someone was able to get the lyrics of his new song. He sings with so much passion and you ended up wanting more from him. That’s what Lee is all about and that’s exactly what he did last night….16 songs??? Wow!!! Unbelievable……I wish I was there.

  • sarah14

I also love the overall vibe of the new song. Each performance of it will be different, just like Pretty Eyes, Annabelle, etc. He doesn’t just write the lyrics, he writes the music to go with them. The credits listed for him via allmusic for Slumberland and So I’m Told are composer, vocals, keyboards, guitar, bass, piano, strings, lyricist, poetry, mixing, engineer, programming, mastering, producer. I don’t know what all of these involve, but sounds impressive to me. He also plays the drums. All of this was done between the ages of probably 20 and 23. He taught himself to play all of the instruments. Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but I think in an interview someone at Wuli said he knew in his head how he wanted each instrument to sound for the song, and he would also go on a break and come back saying he just wrote a song. It has been said in interviews that he makes up little songs on the spot to entertain people. His voice is unique, someone said “imperfectly perfect”. He pours everything he has into his performances for the fans. He’s the real thing…a true artist.

Excellent! This is the Lee sound I love – angsty, growly with a rock vibe

    Well said Sarah14!

I like the new song so far, need a few more video’s with better sound to hear all the lyrics!

  • Buffynut

Has Lee lost weight? He looks slimmed down here.

  • heat914

Loved your post sarah14…Lee being portrayed as the paint salesman by Idol was so misleading. Another reason I hate that show…it’s so manipulative :( Lee is talented in so many areas and people that don’t give him a chance are the ones missing out. Singer/songwriters might not be everyone’s cup of tea but it is mine and I couldn’t be a happier fan :)

  • rivermaya

    I like it A LOT!
The chorus is a bit repetitive but great melody.

Lee’s Pretty Eyes and this new song reflect more of the Lee vibe that I really love – The angst. The passion.
I really hope Lee gets back to his pre-idol roots of songwriting because this is where he really really really excels & shine.

  • kvwicks13

Love the new song, faster, more angsty. The part where he sings ooooooh, does sound a bit like Princess Reprise. Glad to see his hair and different shirt, lol!

Lee being portrayed as the paint salesman by Idol was so misleading.

What was so misleading about it? Did Lee not work in a paint store?

  • poster

Jon Haha…Princess on Crack..that cracked me up, but it’s kinda true, too! I like the song though admit it’s a bit repetitive. But I totally agree with liking the angsty-soulful sound Lee’s been bringing to his recent concert performances and his latest songs.

“Lee being portrayed as the paint salesman by Idol was so misleading.”

What was so misleading about it? Did Lee not work in a paint store?

Because it didn’t give credit to his years as a musician. But Idol likes those “plucked from the paint store” stories. While, in reality, if we looked at the Top 3 from every year, there are very few of those. Most had been working at their music in their local areas. The “plucked from obscurity” image is one of the things that has worked against Idols’ acceptance by many in the music business.

  • Indigobunting

    I like this tune. :)

Lee does look like he has slimmed down.

  • heat914

Thanks for explaining that Buffynut…sometimes I forget it isn’t just Lee fans reading these threads :)

  • fuzzywuzzy

Thanks, Buffynut. I realize that and agree, but I misunderstood when someone posted “so misleading”, like it wasn’t really true or had been exaggerated or something. I really dislike how Idol sets up the “Cinderella” story for contestants.

  • heat914

me too…fuzzywuzzy…that was exactly my point about being misleading. I totally understand why Idol does it but I don’t have to like it.

  • jennyl

Love the song. Its now stuck in my head. :). Can’t wait for more.

  • austen1813

I was there last night and this song was definitely one of the highlights for me. I was hoping someone was recording it so thank you dewyzegirl08! As far as the lyrics, I’m wondering if he is still working on them. I checked that small snippet from the other day and I didn’t hear that verse in this version. For some of the chorus I think he is saying “you can say it if you want” after the first verse and “you can stay if you want” after another one. It is hard to tell though. Super fun crowd last night, lots of energy in the room. Lee was terrific, great vocals and really engaged with the crowd.
