Survivor Season 46 Week 2 Recap

A new episode of Survivor 46 airs tonight on CBS. Read a live recap here.

It’s the morning of Day 4 on the Yanu tribe. Bhanu says everyone came to an agreement to vote out Jelinsky. However, he’s still nervous about his spot on the tribe. He shares his concerns with Kenzie, and she tries to placate him. In her confessional, Kenzie says Bhanu is not a good liar and almost blew it at last night’s tribal council. She calls him a liability who can’t keep secrets. Kenzie says Bhanu and Jess are on the outs of the Yanu tribe. Meanwhile, Tiffany and Q notice Kenzie and Bhanu’s conversation. Tiffany says Kenzie has a vibrant personality, which makes her nervous. Q says he gets a weird vibe that they need to keep an eye on Kenzie. The Yanu tribe is also struggling without fire. They’re not eating or sleeping, and Kenzie gets emotional in her confessional. She says it’s tough and overwhelming.

Meanwhile on the Nami tribe, Tevin feels like he’s in a good spot. He’s closest to Hunter and Soda, but he gets a good vibe from everyone except Venus. Soda felt close to Venus on Day 1, but she now has to distance herself since too many people distrust her. Venus also notices the tribe’s dynamic. In her confessional, Venus says Tevin is the king of the tribe. She realizes he’s tight with everyone except her. Venus feels ostracized and says no one wants to make an effort to get to know her.

Ben breaks down

Ben successfully builds fire for the Siga tribe, and he breaks down crying. After a segment featuring Ben’s background, the focus turns to game. Tim says it’s a big deal that Maria has an extra vote. Tim tells Charlie and Ben that they need to pull Maria into the alliance. Charlie realizes he could be in the swing vote position. He could side with the guys or he could side with the women. He would rather have a close alliance partner, and he sees potential with Maria. They talk game and want to be like Malcolm and Denise from Survivor: Philippines. Charlie and Maria see themselves in the middle of the tribe. They have the option to side with Morriah and Jem or Tim and Ben.

Back on the Nami tribe, we see Venus, Randen, and Hunter individually searching for a hidden immunity idol. Randen eventually finds the Beware advantage. It has the same stipulation as the Beware Advantage Tiffany found in the previous episode. Randen has lost his vote, and he cannot vote until he has the idol in his possession. He won’t get any further instructions until the Nami tribe loses an immunity challenge.

Social struggles

Back at Yanu, Tiffany says Jess is a very nice person, but she’s socially awkward. Jess doesn’t want to be on the outs, so she makes an effort for her tribe members to get to know her better. Kenzie says she wants to keep her options open since Q and Tiffany are strong players. Kenzie pitches targeting Q and Tiffany to Jess and Bhanu. They are hesitant, and Kenzie is annoyed in her confessional. Kenzie wants to work with strategic players and doesn’t want to hold anyone’s hand throughout the game. While Kenzie seems like she wants to stick with her original alliance with Tiffany and Q, Jess throws Kenzie under the bus to Q. Q now wonders if he should continue to trust Kenzie.

Back at the Siga tribe, Charlie feels like he’s struggling with the social aspect of the game. Charlie and Ben talk music and decide to have a contest of who can name the most songs of a chosen artist. Charlie chooses Taylor Swift and Ben chooses Metallica. They go back and forth over a hundred songs each, but eventually Charlie’s knowledge of Taylor Swift songs win.

Liz continues struggling to fit in with her Nami tribe members. She doesn’t need the money, but she wants to inspire her daughter. She openly talks about how much money she has, which rubs her tribe members the wrong way. Meanwhile, Randen feels like he can’t trust anyone. He decides to gamble and trust the person he was most distrustful of at first. Randen tells Venus about the Beware Advantage. Venus feels better now that someone wants to align with her.

Immunity Challenge

It’s time for the immunity challenge. There are big reactions to Jelinsky getting voted out. There is some back and forth banter among the tribes, and Q says he knows the Yanu tribe is a laughingstock right now but they are determined to win today. For today’s challenge, they must race to put wheels on a cart and dig up chests to put on the cart. They must then push the cart through a course and then use the pieces inside the chests to assemble an arching puzzle. The first two tribes to finish will win immunity. Along with immunity, they are also playing for fishing reward.

The tribes are fairly even, but Yanu falls behind at the puzzle portion of the challenge. However, all three tribes struggle with the puzzle. Nami thought they had it right, but a piece was in a wrong spot. As the three tribes try to assemble the blocks correctly (the word “persistence” must be spelled on both sides), blocks tumble down. Due to the difficulty, the challenge is wide open with anyone capable of winning. Just when a tribe gets close to completing the challenge, the blocks fall again. Nami finally completes the challenge. Nami wins immunity! Yanu gets close to finishing the puzzle again, but their blocks fall. Siga completes the puzzle. Siga wins immunity! Yanu will go back to tribal council tonight.

Celebrating a win

We see the Nami tribe returning to camp after the immunity challenge. They celebrate their win and try out their new fishing gear. Venus is frustrated. Her foot was run over by the wagon, and she says it’s because nobody would listen to her during the challenge. She doesn’t feel like trying out the fishing gear with her fellow tribe members. Soda feels like Venus wants to make herself the victim. Venus says she was sad the first few days, but she’s “pissed” now. She wants to work with Randen to use the Beware advantage, and she is ready to flip against her tribe members as soon as the opportunity presents itself.

Yanu returns to camp. Tiffany breaks down crying, but Bhanu tells Jess it’s either him or her going home tonight. Tiffany explains she’s emotional because she lost her cool during the challenge and doesn’t want to give a bad impression of herself to the other tribe. Later, Kenzie and Tiffany talk game. Kenzie pitches the idea to plant a fake idol for Jess to find. They believe Jess won’t play her Shot in the Dark if she thinks she has a hidden immunity idol. The only people who know about this fake idol plan are Kenzie, Tiffany, and Q.

A fake Idol

Tiffany tries to lead Jess to the fake idol, but Jess walks past it. They decide to have Q give Jess the fake idol instead. Later, Q approaches Jess and hands her the wrapped package of the fake idol. He tells her to vote for who he wants, and Jess agrees. In his confessional, Q notes how he can stick to the original plan to vote out Jess, or he can tell Jess and Bhanu to vote out Kenzie tonight. Regardless, Q is confident he’ll get his way tonight.

Before Yanu leaves for tribal council, Bhanu cuts his hand with the machete. Kenzie says he, Tiffany, and Q are the only smart people on the tribe. She calls Bhanu and Jess “dinguses.” Meanwhile, Jess doubts the idol Q gave her is legitimate, so she asks Q if it’s real or not. Q doubles down and says that he’s using his idol to save her.

Jess knows she needs to play the game, so tries to talk game to target Kenzie. She talks to Kenzie and Tiffany first, and the two of them placate Jess by agreeing to vote out Bhanu. Later, Jess talks to Bhanu and Q that Bhanu’s name has been thrown out. Jess wants them to vote out Kenzie tonight. Q is open to voting out Kenzie tonight, but he doesn’t want to make this move without Tiffany. Q and Tiffany talk about voting out Kenzie tonight. Q wants to make the move, but Tiffany is hesitant. In her confessional, Tiffany is confident that Jess will be voted out tonight. In his confessional, Q knows he’s in the middle, but he says he’ll make the move that benefits him the most.

Tribal Council

It’s time for tribal council. It’s raining, and Jeff points out how the tribe has to depend on each other living in the elements. Jess agrees that they have to rely on each other. Kenzie say they enjoy each other, but they have to face the reality of the game. The talk turns to the vote. Tiffany says they have to look at the data and figure out whom to work with long-term in the game. Jess says it’s a “dog eat dog” world, and they have to figure out how to move forward. Jess says she and Kenzie have been tiptoeing around each other. Jess says Kenzie is a threat in this game, and Kenzie admits she didn’t want to talk game with Jess. Q says Jess knows she’s on the outs, so she’s going to point at a perceived big threat to save herself.

Bhanu says he’s authentic, and he’s bothered how people have called him too emotional. He says he’s passionate and brings strength to the tribe, but he knows he’s on the chopping block. Bhanu tells Jeff about how he’s been building relationships with Q, Kenzie, and Tiffany. Jeff says Bhanu is very forthcoming. He points out how Bhanu admitted Jelinksy was going to be the target last time, and now he’s making it seem like Jess is going to be voted out tonight. Bhanu says he only connected with Jess yesterday. The rest of the tribe tell Bhanu he can’t keep spilling too much information at tribal council. Q is visibly annoyed and tells Jeff that it’s time to vote. Before they vote, Bhanu whispers with Kenzie, Tiffany, and Q to reconfirm plans.

Before Jeff reads the votes, Jess plays the fake idol Q gave her. Jeff confirms it’s a fake idol.
