I like the title.  I wonder what it means.

I await the moans and groans of some seeing Zorro.  :-D  I like the photo, however. The cover has a vintage look that seems to be trendy among some musicians right now.

Kris’ website is offering pre orders that include the deluxe cd with bonus tracks, and a vinyl record.

I really want this second album to be great. And not over produced like the first album. And Kris, please perform in the northeast more so I can see you.

I love the title, and the artistic decision to put Kris and Zorro’s pictures on the edge of the album, instead of in the center.

WOW! I love the album cover and the title. The title makes you think and ask questions and that’s PERFRCT! Good one RCA and KRIS!

  • Anonymous

So adorable – album cover, Zorro and of course Kris!!!

  • Anonymous

Absolutely love the title – adore Kris & Zorro (of course) but am not so sure about the photo used, although knowing how much Kris & Katy love their Zorro I am not surprised they chose it – he’s their first *baby* after all and quite adorable for a French bulldog!

Can not wait to get my hands on this album and hear what Kris has in store for us – his excitement is infectious!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • mimi

I like both the title and the cover a lot.  They work well together and seem very true to Kris.  I am so excited for the album release!  I wasn’t expecting May— I was thinking June was more likely given the pretty much non-existent promo for VOL to date.  Let’s hope RCA is ready to kick it into high gear now!

Love the cover! Actually, if we’re being honest…I think Kris makes a lot of smart career moves these days. He’s sorta the quiet success story as far as Idol winners go I think. Decent sales, his hit song, and now he’s really being smart with the sophomore album and corresponding single (VOL). I think the song will be another hit for him, along with this album.

In the more recent years of Idol, it’s rare to see a contestant experience the same amount of success after they’re debut release. I wish Kris the best in what seems like an uphill battle for Idols to release a solid sophomore album (sales-wise at least). I think he’s got a smart plan in mind for this album, and he’s getting the support from his label.

Show ‘em what ya got Kris!

I love it. i don’t mind zorro being on it, since Kris is on it as well. Wonder if the title is a name of one of the songs. And I get both Haley and Kris music to listen to on the same day. Am in heaven.

  • Anonymous

Oh goodness – the larger picture is wonderful – wouldn’t mind it sitting right here on my desk!!!!!!!  Thanks for bringing it over Tripp :)

I love it!  And isn’t this the same date for Haley’s release?

  • http://twitter.com/butterflydm Diana

Huh, interesting. I wonder if Camellia is a reference that will get explained at some point of if it’s meant to be mysterious.

Not sure how I feel about the album cover. Hopefully, it will draw the attention of people who aren’t yet Kris’s fans.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_SYFK77IYLRQIVATQ2MJKSW2J7Y Pam

    awwww Zorro.  <3

The cover is not what I expected, but it's cute.  The title is interesting.  I hope Kris will at some point provide an explanation behind the album title too.  I'm curious.

  • http://twitter.com/RonnieDRocks Ronnie D

Wow. I wonder if the album art is representative of the kind of music that will be on the album. I hope not. This is sort of a strange one for me. lol

  • Anonymous

How is it that the main question has not been asked yet: Who, where, what is Camellia?

  • Banished

Awesome cover and very smart title. It draws intrigue. I am now torn whether to purchase the mp3 with bonus tracks, or the CD so I get pictures, and title notes. Maybe I’ll just pre-order both!

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/GED45R7LV4QERBS74RT6INK65I fed

well that is a very indie artist album cover, not one that i would expect from an AI on a major label doing pop music. caught my eye at least.

  • Anonymous

I like the album title but the cover art is just sort of…there.  Not really sure what to think.

  • http://twitter.com/butterflydm Diana

Lots of people are asking him on twitter! He hasn’t said anything yet.

  • http://twitter.com/doesmonaknow DoesMonaKnow

May 22? Ugh. Too soon for his single to become a big hit and help the album sales, too close to other Idol album releases. Unless, he gets to perform on Idol and gets a boost that way, but the finale week is all about the current people, while if you perform on an earlier results show, the attention isn’t divided as many ways. The finale is likely to have higher ratings and more potential buyers, so I guess it’s a trade-off.

I wonder what the title means. The cover’s alright I guess. There he goes with his hand in his pocket again but I guess that title is already taken. :)

  • Anonymous

Here’s a thought about the album title: Anyone know the name of Zorro’s mother?  ;)

ETA: I love the title BTW; it’s intriguing in a way that makes me want to look at the track listing. Not as sure about the photo, but that’s mainly because Kris’s stance is a bit odd, like he’s leaning up hill, but there’s no hill.

  • Anonymous

Sigh.. a little disappointed with the cover though I like the title. Kris is such a good looking man but this cover managed to make him look so so.. :( Zorro is still cute but Kris (for the first time) don’t look so cute here.. His expression and his hair don’t look good for some reason.. I think it has to do with the dark shape of the tree in the background that brend in with his hair color..

But excited that the release date is sooner than expected! I’ll be pre-ordering for sure!

  • Anonymous

So excited about this album — already preordered the deluxe edition as well as the vinyl one.

The title is intriguing. It gets people asking what it means — which can only be a good thing.

    And aw, Zorro.

ETA – Kris tweeted late last night he was working on the sequencing, so hopefully we will get a track listing fairly soon.

  • luly

I like the cover and the album title is
intriguing. I’m also glad that Kris not only co-wrote all the songs, but also
was involved in the production. I hope that Kris will have a lot of success
    with this album.

  • Anonymous

That’s exactly what I was thinking, vtu–that Camellia is Zorro’s mother’s name! Love the title of the album!!

My first reaction to the cover art is I don’t like it. I wish Kris was looking at Zorro or posing differently. He looks like when I would tell my kids to “go stand by that tree and I’ll take your picture” (they didn’t always look at me either). A meh expression. I like the TVOL single photo so much better. Sigh. (Zorro looks good, tho)

  • http://twitter.com/Justin_J9 Justin

    wtf? lmao

  • Incipit

Completely dispassionate impression, because I doubt I will ever buy anything of Kris’s, although I think he is very talented and has a highly ‘listenable’ voice – I’m not the demographic for the songs he wants to do.

I like the cover, the warm colors, and the relaxed pose with the asymmetric placement…and Zorro is cute. It’s as if we walked in to the middle of a story – and if we stay, we’ll find out what happens. The title is intriguing, raising all sorts of questions. Nice job. I wish him every good fortune with this album.

Honestly, I like the photo. It has a retro jibe for me, reminds me of the Beatles actually.

Regarding people being a bit disappointed with it, I understand since most are hoping for a close up or maybe something accentuating Kris’s good looks. Unfortunately, Kris doesn’t like to focus on his looks or acts as if he doesn’t care for his looks LOL..

Overall, I like the concept of the photo. And, I also tweeted, “Who’s Camillia?”

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/4PLQMZV4QX7CHQCAUVXJBXYUCM wicked

Like the cover – it catches your eye as does the title and the font. Looking forward to hearing more – I am still hoping Parachute is on the album:)

  • Anonymous

I like the cover but honestly if the cover just had his name KRIS ALLEN on it with a black background, I would buy it lol!

  • Anonymous

I believe that tree is a camellia. But I doubt it’s what he’s thanking. interesting. I like the pic – a man and his dog. Wasn’t expecting the CD so soon since promo hasn’t even started on the single.

  • Anonymous

I’ll admit that it looks like something that an indie artist would release, and not someone who is releasing pop.  And while I’m ticked that a lot of the things surrounding Kris’ promotion make him look like an indie artist, I think it’s time to accept that this imagery reflects what Kris likes, and who he is, even if it doesn’t totally reflect what the music sounds like.

  • http://twitter.com/krisjonin Jonins

OOPS! My bad, keep on saying photo. I mean I like the cover. LOL

  • Avari

Interesting cover and smart title; I think they’re both good choices. Reminds me of the Beatles for some reason.

I am giggling at just how many accolades they’ve managed to spin into that press release though. Of course, I roll my eyes at all press releases, including those about my own special snowflake, because they are supposed to be excessive like that, LOL. But the USE OF ALL CAPS is legitimately annoying! :-)

  • http://twitter.com/cheeseE1 EH

I kind of like it. Who doesn’t like dogs and gigantic shrubbery?

  • Anonymous

After initially being surprised by the cover & title since it wasn’t at all what I expected based on the single artwork, I actually now think it’s very Kris.  He clearly just wants to be himself & not try to come off looking like someone he isn’t, so I’m good with that.  I could do without the dog on the cover, but that’s a minor complaint.  I just want the music at long last.

So cool we get vinyl & bonus tracks!  Since Kris tweeted last night about working on sequencing, sounds like his part of the production is just about completed. I hope this means we hear tour news soon.

  • Mateja Praznik

My first thought when I saw the cover was “indie”. If I wasn’t familiar with Kris, I would think he is an indie artist.

  • Anonymous

I don’t really care too much about the cover except that Zorro is so cute.  I’m not going to buy the physical cd anyway only the digital deluxe edition( which I just pre-ordered!!!!).  The fact that Kris co-wrote and had a big part of the production of this album makes me feel so hopeful that it will be amazing.  I’ll put it this way, Kris might not be the best most dynamic personality or the best interview subject but musically he has never disappointed me.  Yesterday I was driving and “Wipe It Away” from his first album came up and I still marvel at just how good it is for being done on a shoe string budget.  Anyway, I can’t wait to have it on my ipod-especially Out Alive.

I’m not getting my hopes up about this album being a great seller.  In fact, I think it is likely that sales will be disappointing to some.  I just hope that Kris will be given a fair shot by the critics and that he will at least get the recognition he merits if the album is as good as I feel it will be.

  • Anonymous

I like the title and the cover.  It ‘s to the hipster side of classic.  It is crisp, thoughtful, and artistic as opposed to KATA which was dark, brooding, and angsty.  Kris isn’t the dark, brooding type, so I think this is much more representative of his music.

  • Anonymous

Like it – intriguing – especially the title – makes you curious.  Funny how Kris and the dog both look sorta tired – staring into the distance – at what?  The thought of all the promo lying in wait?  I’d be tired, too – lol.

    Love the pants.

  • Axxxel

As a non-fan, I think the cover looks gorgeous and enigmatic… What are Kris Allen  and his Zorro dog waiting for ? Or are they looking while their loved-one is going away ? What does the title mean ? Busy week in May for Idol alumns because Kris’ ex-roommate Adam Lambert will release his 2nd album one week earlier…

  • Anonymous

I love the album photo. It reminds me of a movie poster. It begs you to ask the question who is Camille? Kris and Zorro’s gaze away from camera is suggesting “why dont you buy it and I’ll tell you inside”. I find closeup pictures of artists on albums bland and boring and I’m glad this conveys the beginning of a story.

  • Anonymous

I think Kris’ pose on this cover reflect my feelings about this album:  It looks like he’s starting to get a little impatient waiting for this thing to come out.  Yay for the seemingly firm release date.

  • Anonymous

omg!!! zorro on the cover. i love it.

  • http://twitter.com/mcdeallover Sunny Mc

I like hipster Kris, and can’t wait to find out who the hell Camellia is! May 22 can’t come fast enough!

  • Anonymous

Very nice cover! It really makes you look at it, which is exactly what covers are supposed to do, IMO. The title really caught me off guard but I love it. I wonder if it is a lyric or title in a song? Thank You Camellia.. Awesome!

  • Anonymous

I really, really like the cover.  Like many have said, it’s rather intriguing and mysterious, and I think that it will stand out.  I love the crisp, clean, plain font, and I love that Zorro is in the picture with him, since he means a lot to Kris.

The best thing though, is that we have a release date!!!!  I am looking forward to it so much, especially since we’ve heard so many new tunes that are tremendous.  I don’t expect first week sales to be high, but based on the music I’ve heard, I think it will sell continuously if RCA are smart about single selection and promotion.

    So, let the promo begin!

  • Anonymous

My first initial reaction to this album cover was “cuuuuuuuute” and it remains the same still. Not a big Kris fan but I love the cover. The title was a little hard to spot immediately but it is interesting. Best if luck to Kris.

  • Anonymous

That’s a boring cover. It mirrors the artist imo.

  • Anonymous

Love the cover art and album title (intriguing- i guess we’ll know why at some point).
This is very much more Kris than the first album.
There’s a serenity about the cover that I like. The growth behind him kind of symbolize for me the growth compare to album 1 – ok this is far fetched, i know :)

  • Anonymous

Love this cover and handsome hipster Kris and cute Zorro!  Love the first single too!  Kris and Kelly are my favorite Idol winners!  They are both talented, laid back, down to earth, happy, attractive musicians!

Love the mysterious title!  I think I would’ve rolled my eyes if the title and cover had Katy in it.

  • David I-Chen Lin

O.m.G couldn’t be a better cover for the fans especially! ZORRO! And Kris looks amazing in this. Title is very, very cool too. CANNOT WAIT!

  • AllenTX

Hmmm, a cute dog always saves the day. LOL

  • http://twitter.com/bleubebe98 Paulie

love the cover. the album title is intriguing. reminds me of all the alanis’ album title’s TBH. :P (but of course, alanis picks off her titles from lyrics, something cook also did w/ TLM).

pre-ordered the CD and vinyl! :D may 2012 is gonna be awesome w/ all my AI alum faves releasing CDs.

  • http://twitter.com/Justin_J9 Justin

    um…tree?

  • iani

I will buy 2 more copies of his album because I have two close friends named Camellia, I think it would be a nice surprise as a title and nice music for the ear.
The cover is nice, both look sharp, it gives a feeling of relax, settled down and the rest is “to be thankful to a girl” for the good life that is captured in the title.
I like the feeling in Kris’ music, more open to show the love, no hidden lover for him (maybe, lol), his marital status it might help here somehow to give the more relax feeling in his music and less struggles to find the right girl.

  • madeformusic

I love the title and the cover. I mostly listen to alternative and indie stuff so this Thank You Camellia fits better to my collection than KATA ;) I preordered deluxe version but maybe I should order the vinyl too, just because of the cover :).

I understand that the photo can be disappointing to some as it’s not the best picture of Kris. I like it though, it’s more interesting than some model-looking cover. And I love that Zorro is in the picture. It makes the picture something more than just a plain pose.

  • Anonymous

Love the cover. It just dawned on me that the hand in the pocket conceals his wedding ring.

  • callmecrazy

Kris’s left hand placement in his pocket….distracting for me in a good way.

  • Anonymous

My only reservation is the rigidity of the all-caps at the top.  The ‘Thank you…’ font and placement are perfect, as is Zorro.  A little give and flow to Kris’ printed name would be better.  On the other hand, to attract the eye to the cd on the shelf, what they have might be better.  Picking nits.

  • Anonymous

and I really like the release date of May 22nd. I was expecting it somewhere in June, so sooner is a pleasant surprise! :)

  • http://twitter.com/dy7764 dy77

I’m excited, actual news, actual title, actual release date! It’s all good for me. So excited to have vinyl, I have a large collection dating back to childhood of vinyl and it’s great to be able to add Kris to it. Of course I’ll order the deluxe digital edition too. Bring on May 22!

Being a big Kris’ fan, I still cannot get over how disappointed I am with the album cover. Like someone here had already mentioned.. does the cover reflects the music that he is putting out??? I certainly hope not.. as the cover looks boring the more I look at it. Nothing exciting other than the brand starr in the distance and the cute zorro.. I was really excited about the music I heard from The Mint videos but this cover in no way reflects those music.. Kind of took the excitment out of me.. to be honest.. The photo used is nothing more than a good table top picture but not good enough for an album cover. To my eyes, it’s nothing really artistic or sepecial to reflect Kris or his music.. Sorry.. I just have to vent out my thoughts and disappointment and hoping it’ll make me feel a little better.. but not working lol Deep down I’m even hoping that Kris will switch the cover but of course that’ll never happens.. :(

  • http://twitter.com/poppetawoppet Emily

    VINYL.

    THAT IS ALL.

I like the cover/album title: gives a bit of mystery and is accessible all at once

  • Anonymous

I think it’s cool and artsy. I like the whole look and feel of it. As someone mentioned, it does have a retro flavor to it, very Beatle-esque. So-called “indie” artists are gaining a foothold in CHR/HAC, so if the cover gives an Indie vibe more power to it. I like the simplicity of it. It’s a cover that appeals to both male and female.

  • http://twitter.com/buffyloverlori buffyloverlori

Still loving the whole cover. And also thinking about how broke I am going to be in May, Carrie, Adam, Haley, and Kris all having albums out. I per-ordered Haley’s and Kris already, and will do the other two in April after Easter when I have more money. So freaking excited for all these new songs I’ll be able to listen to. And am still really interested in what the title is all about. Is it a special friend of Kris, some one in his or Katy’s family, Zorro’s mom? Just so very interesting.

  • http://twitter.com/Miztig Miz

I LOVE the album cover and title. Very artistic and enigmatic, which is also how I often view Kris. The large green space of the shrubbery leaves a perfect spot for the stickers that always end up on the CD.

‘Thank you Camellia’ is a title that draws out your curiosity. Who is Camellia and what did she do to merit his thanks? So many possibilities. Of course, I think it could be as simple as Zorro peed on the bush and he thanked it. Then thought, ‘that’s a good name for a song/album’

I pre-ordered the digital deluxe album and the standard CD. I may order the vinyl or buy it in a brick and mortar store when it comes out. I can’t wait!

The video is done, so now we just need the release on that. Oh, and an Idol appearance and radio/TV promo.

  • Anonymous

After a long walk and lunch, I like the cover more than I did initially (still don’t love it, but I can appreciate many aspects of its design). Sometimes we just have to walk away for a bit since, as fans, I think we want so badly for Kris to do well this time around. And if something isn’t “perfect,” we get all disappointed and worried. lol  I’m confident, that even if I don’t love the cover, I WILL love the music. Kris has not disappointed me yet where it counts! So, Yay for TYC!

Love the little pop of red on Zorro’s collar!

  • Anonymous

I really like the title and the cover. Much better than than the first one.

  • Anonymous

You read my mind.. :) Yes, I’m more worried now esp. after seeing the cover as they’re certainly going cheap on Kris. Oh well, I’m going to take a walk now like you say and let it be… let it be…

  • Anonymous

I am excited for Kris’ new album.

  • http://www.facebook.com/masewallace Mase Wallace

    i honestly don’t like it

  • Anonymous

I don’t think they are going cheap on him, I think they are giving him what he wants.  The image represents how Kris sees himself, and how a lot of his fans see him.  It has:

    Kris’ favorite color
We know how he loves nature,
    It isn’t flashy
    It’s’ straightforward,
Shows the pet that he loves,
Has a throwback-hipster-Beatles era rock type of a vibe to it, which we know that Kris loves.

While it may not be a good idea to have an album cover that doesn’t represent the music, I think that for Kris the cover was never going to sell the album.  For him it was always going to be about people hearing his songs on the radio or wherever, and getting acquainted with his sound that way, and not so much about people seeking his music out.   So why shouldn’t he have an album cover that appeals to what he likes, and how he wants to be perceived.  The first album’s cover wasn’t a true representation of Kris or the music, even though it’s a cool cover.

  • http://www.facebook.com/masewallace Mase Wallace

i’m confused as to why rca is putting this out as opposed to jive, no insults please just a honest reply, thanks

I don’t think I get the title?  that’s quite a mouthful for an album isn’t it?  Usually they are one or two words with punch and impact.  Thank You Camellia?  WTF does that even mean exactly?

Love the dog though.  Sad that Zorro has more star quality than a lot of people in show business.  Kris should get him his own agent.

  • newinNM

1st impression, the picture of Kris looks like it was cut out of a clothing store advertisement, Zorro looks really pissed, that’s a funny name for an album and who the heck is Camellia!

That said, It’s not bad and since I download most music I don’t really care if I like the cover or not.  Zorro is kinda cute (even when ticked off) Kris does look nice and I’m sure the title will make since eventually. And as someone else it’s whats inside that counts.

  • Anonymous

I don’t think I get the title?  that’s quite a mouthful for an album isn’t it?  Usually they are one or two words with punch and impact.  Thank You Camellia?  WTF does that even mean exactly?

It’s just three words, not exactly a mouthful.  But I think that you’ve hit on one of the meanings, it’s supposed to have people guessing and wondering who is Camellia.  The title did its job by getting your attention, and has you asking what it means.

  • http://twitter.com/buffyloverlori buffyloverlori

Some people on twitter think it might be the girl Kris gave his guitar to when he was on his mission before. I think that would be kool if that’s it. Am so excited well be even more excited when we know the songs that will all be on it, how many were getting, and new music video. Am just so freaking excited and want May 22 to hurry up and get here.

Well I said that I wouldn’t be held responsible for my actions if Zorro was on the cover, but it’s better than I expected. I like it a lot more than the KATA cover. That one looked like Kris was worried about being killed by an axe murderer! I love the title-very intriguing.
I agree with whoever said that the cover isn’t going to sell the album. So let’s hope RCA gets with the program and starts ramping up the promo for TVOL.

i’m confused as to why rca is putting this out as opposed to jive, no insults please just a honest reply, thanks

Jive is no longer an operating label.  Kris moved to the RCA roster when Jive folded along with many of their artists in fact.

  • Anonymous

Me neither.  It looks kinda… cheap. Kris needs all the attention from every corner he can get, so a more eye catching cover from a marketing/visual standpoint would IMO have been a plus. I hope the songs comprising this CD do more to attract potential listeners/buyers than the cover… too soon to really tell the fate of the lead single, so we will see.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_WIHKL34XDORTS2UZP4SWUUTG3U randi

It’s just three words, not exactly a mouthful.  But I think that you’ve hit on one of the meanings, it’s supposed to have people guessing and wondering who is Camellia.  The title got your attention.

It got my attention because I read MJs blog.  It wouldn’t get my attention in the store because the font isn’t eye catching enough - it’s too small and placed in a odd spot on the album – honestly I thought he had named his sophmore album KRIS ALLEN again until I looked in the corner and saw the words.

who is going to care who Cameilla is??  I don’t.

If it were a higher profile artist I could see having an intriguing title that would make the media ponder “who is this Cameilla person” but Kris doesn’t have that kind of buzz and I just honestly don’t see people picking up the album and buying it to see who he’s talking about.

I like Kris’ music and will buy this album regardless of the cover art I just think he missed the mark completely.

  • Anonymous

I love the title and I’m sure he’ll never tell us what it means. It reminds me of Jimmy Durante and his”goodnight Mrs. Calabash where ever you are.”Is anyone here old enough to remember that. He sang Frosty The Snowman in the animated TV Christmas show but had a television show which he ended with that phrase and nobody ever knew who she was. Maybe Kris can end his concerts thanking Camellia.

  • http://twitter.com/butterflydm Diana

Oh, someone said that the shrubbery he’s standing in front of is a camellia bush. Hard to find pictures of them not in flower, but it seems to match up. I’m guessing the name was picked first and that’s why he was photographed there, rather than the other way around.

  • Anonymous

Well, at least it doesn’t bring public bathrooms to mind … (except maybe doggy bathrooms I guess).

  • Anonymous

I have a lot of vinyl, some cover art I liked, some I didn’t. I bought for the music. This cover is very, very cool. I don’t think Kris had a chance in hell of pleasing everyone. He already did the full head shot thing. I see this as a cover from a serious artist. It is very impressive,

  • Anonymous

I don’t like it.  Of all the super hot pics of seen of Kris lately, why this?  Way too much tree in the picture and Kris’ clothes look a size too small for him and it’s not even a good pose or expression on his face.  Why, oh why? :(

  • Anonymous

Woulda been even cuter if Zorro was yellow streaming it on the bush.

  • Anonymous

who is going to care who Cameilla is??  I don’t.

But you asked about it, as have others who have seen the title.  If it was as forgetful as the plain font, I don’t think you would have said this mouthful:

Thank You Camellia?  WTF does that even mean exactly?

That’s a little passionate, especially for something that you don’t think is important, or care about.  It was also the second time in that paragraph that you mentioned the title.

There have been other examples where artists have used someone’s name, or a particular place, and people have been curious about what it means, so Kris is just using a device that has worked before.

I just honestly don’t see people picking up the album and buying it to see who he’s talking about.

I doubt that that would happen anyway, most people wouldn’t shell out $12 if they aren’t already interested in the artist and the music.  No, the title won’t get people to buy the album, but it is memorable, and like a good hook, if people hear the title it will be stored away in their minds, and maybe it will come back to them the next time they hear Kris’ name, or his song on the radio.

As you said, Kris doesn’t have a lot of buzz, so it makes perfect sense to use, as you called it, an intriguing title, in order to try and get some attention.

  • Anonymous

OK, I just saw this (really late).
I need to think if I like this or not.
Who is Camellia ?..and maybe that is why Kris titled the album that way.

Hmmm isn’t Camellia the name of a Princess as well as Kelsey Grammer’s ex wife?

  • Anonymous

First thought:  Zorro and KA are going to touch the Triwizard Tournament Cup at the same time!

    Heh.

I like typewriter fonts and I like poses that don’t involve the artist in question staring directly at me, so I think this is fine.

Interesting assortment of songwriters.  I hope his involvement in the production keeps it coherent.

  • Avari

I’m surprised at the dismay that some Kris fans are expressing about his cover. IMO, this cover picture is completely retro cool; the opposite of manufactured pop…and some fans are upset because it isn’t pop enough or that it looks cheap? Different strokes, I guess.

Personally, I’m kind of impressed with Kris here. This is a pretty definitive statement of style, and actually the first time he’s ever caught my attention, tbh.

  • Anonymous

Well I know Kelsey Grammer’s ex-wife is Camille Grammer (yes, I shamefully watch the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills sometimes).  Do you mean princess Carmella?

  • Anonymous

Yay! We get a firm release date. Already pre-ordered the deluxe and vinyl and I don’t even have a turntable(!). I’m glad for the earlier release date in May instead of June, but RCA needs to start promoting TVOL ASAP so the song can gain some momentum prior to the album release.

As for the cover, I love that the title is mysterious and I love the artsy and retro feel, but I agree with others that it would look better if Kris was looking directly at the camera or at Zorro.

I agree and I think I like this direction for Kris. As much as I want Kris to take the Pop world by storm, given the genre of his music, laid-back personality and overall performance style, chances are slim of that happening — at least right now. However, I do think the tide is turning on the HAC/CHR where other types of artists can make an impact but it may take some time for Kris.

All I want is Kris to be put in a position to have a successful career. Given the music we heard so far, the overall feel of the album and HOPEFULLY a well-executed promotional plan, I think this album will pave the way for him.

  • Anonymous

Maybe this is a great album cover – I keep coming back to look at it.
Is Kris into horticulture?  (funny word) – nah
Think it’s the solemnity of the expression on his face that almost makes me believe there’s some sort of an inside joke going on – he does have that snarky kind of humor – wouldn’t put it past him.
Well, if it’s a song title – that’s one I really want to hear.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_WIHKL34XDORTS2UZP4SWUUTG3U randi

But you asked about it, as have others who have seen the title.  If it was as forgetful as the plain font, I don’t think you would have said this mouthful:

you’re putting words in my mouth I never said.  I didn’t say it was forgettable I said it wasn’t eye catching.

That’s a little passionate, especially for something that you don’t think is important, or care about.  It was also the second time in that paragraph that you mentioned the title.

WTF is hardly passionate it’s more like incredulous.  Like huh?

I mentioned the title once, immediately followed by the WTF does that mean comment.  My opening statement was I don’t get the title.

There have been other examples where artists have used someone’s name, or a particular place, and people have been curious about what it means, so Kris is just using a device that has worked before.

Worked for who?  I can’t think of one mainstream successful album that was another person’s name other than the artist themselves.  I’m sure someone can list them for me though so looking forward to that for sure.

As you said, Kris doesn’t have a lot of buzz, so it makes perfect sense to use, as you called it, an intriguing title, in order to try and get some attention.

I didn’t actually mean the title was intriguing.  I was taking what you said, which was that it would get people wondering and therefore interested and applied the word I thought summed up your opinion of the title.

I don’t think the title is intriguing, I think it’s kind of dumb actually.  In reference to Kris as an artist, unless there is a song on the album of the same name, it’s out of left field and so random that association will be difficult IMO.

Like I said before though, I don’t care if I like the album title or the cover art, I loved Kris’ debut and will be buying this album too so makes no difference in the grand scheme of things.

  • Anonymous

I like it.  It’s quirky, retro.  Not sure who Camellia is, but it’s definitely the name of the background shrub.

  • Anonymous

I dont’ think Kris or his mgmt are stupid enough to come up with a title that would make people think its dumb. And by the looks of it they have acheived their goal since majority have been intriqued to the extent that it made people curious about it.

I think this tweet may have finally solved the album title mystery:

    Andie Jameson ? @andiejsays
@RCAPromo @KrisAllen Kris I know you live on Camellia Ave in North Hollywood! As an LA girl I love the shout-out.

  • Anonymous

I love the album cover! Thanks, Kris, RCA, the designer, and the photographer. Beautifully designed, great photo, very classy but puts a smile on my face, as well. And the name against the white background at the top will stand out on any store display.

I also immediately liked the title, and I think when you find out what it means it’ll make sense.

I’m basically finding everything about this second era really enjoyable and appealing. I can tell Kris has had so much more input, because it all seems way more like the person I imagine he is. It’s awesome.

I can’t think of one mainstream successful album that was another person’s name other than the artist themselves.

IIRC, Maroon 5′s “Songs About Jane” did pretty well for itself. But I don’t have time for a whole list.

  • mimi

I saw that tweet too and I think that it makes the most sense… doesn’t he stay with John Brunson when he is in LA?  If it is the case that’s a pretty awesome way to say thanks to his friends who have been supporting him while he is away from home.

the cover might be simple but it’s artsy. I love the bush behind, it looks so great.
I’m sure we’ll know at some point why this title.  He will be asked that question so much in the coming months, so he can’t not answer imo, that would be awkward. and I want to know! :)

As a casual person I would say that I don’t like the cover or the album. It might stand out a little at the store but without the ability to listen to it I would move right by it. However the title is a mystery so it’s intriguing and if the music was put in front of me I would listen so it’s really up to RCA to do their job.

  • judes

I love the album cover. This is so Kris. He likes to have some intrigue -just reading his tweets sometimes its hard to know what he’s on about. The title will get people talking -what does that mean?? I think this Camellia means a lot to him as the camellia bush is the focus of the photo- with a bit of Kris on the side .Love the retro feel.

  • Anonymous

Yeah, exactly. It reminds me of the Beatles’ Abby Road cover. Paul is in a blue suit barefoot. Why? John is in all white and you can’t even see his face. George is in blue jeans.. and Ringo? I don’t care. But it asks a lot of questions. I was too young to get this cover when it came out, but now I understand why it’s still iconic.

I wouldn’t say that Kris’s cover is quite as interesting. But it goes for it. Maybe if he achieves Beatle status we can all look back and say – wow-  what a great cover. But it is interesting and makes a person ask questions.

Based on zero actual information about Kris (or the dog for that matter) my first impression of the cover + title is the end of a relationship.  Which is weird, because as far as I know dude is happily married.

I love it. He looks super good, Zorro is cute, I like the background and his name really huge on top. I even like the ambiguous title that I have no understanding of. It looks very indie.

Well, at least it doesn’t bring public bathrooms to mind … (except maybe doggy bathrooms I guess).

^^This is my guess as to what the title means. If it isn’t a song title from the album, I think it is a bathroom humor joke.

Now, whether it was just Zorro or Zorro and Kris being thankful for the shrubbery…  lol

semi-OT, but did anyone watch EXTRA tonight? The behind the scenes piece on Kris’ MV was supposed to air on that show, but I’m seeing on twitter that it didn’t. Can anyone confirm? Thanks

  • Anonymous

Well one thing I do like of this cover is that his name is hugh on the top! You can’t miss that! Hmm.. maybe he is thinking that it can be used as a template/setup for all his future album covers and make it his style/trademark. All he needs to do is just put a different title and photo (good ones I hope) on the bottom of each releases. That could save a lot of thinking and design for all his future album cover lol Now I’m curious.. does any other artist do that???

  • Anonymous

I had it on and didn’t see anything about Kris.  (I wasn’t totally paying attention, but I’m pretty sure his voice or name would have caught my ear if he had been on.)

  • Anonymous

At first blush, I wasn’t overly-enthused about the cover.  It’s just that Kris is extremely handsome (and fit), and the label could really play that up & use it to its advantage.  After taking a second look (and viewing it on my computer rather than on my iPhone), I’m starting to appreciate it.  The arrangement of the photo subjects, the photo subjects chosen, & even the fashion evoke an artsy retro feel that I’m drawn to.  The skinny tie & pants remind me of all the photos of the Beatles when they came to the US in 1964, and the demeanor of both Kris & Zorro could reflect angsty drama or even humor.

Given Kris’s love of & talent with imagery (e.g., the mosaic T-shirt design he helped create based on the songs from his first album) I wouldn’t be surprised if elements of the picture reflected lyrics from the songs on the CDS.  I even like the fact that my opinion of the picture changed so drastically from my first viewing to my second…..

  • mzhallcat

Well, I like the cover and it seems to be doing it’s job. IMO, it’s generating buzz because the meaning is mysterious and open to interpretation. (that is sooo Kris)

  • Anonymous

Another thing that had me concerned is that the release date is less than 2 months away and Kris has not even started any radio promotion what so ever. I hope RCA is not just going to let the album swim/sink on its own like what happened to David A. They care so much for Adam’s and even postphone his release date just to allow more airplay.. etc.  Yet for Kris, just can’t wait to get it out there (which is good for us fans) but…. Oh I guess I need to be more like some of you here and start having more positive thinking rather than keep worrying.. lol

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/6BDCFZ26QLJA3QPLBJC535N7BQ Gerarda DeSanto

I was too excited about the cover at first.  But, when people started talking about it being kind of Beatles retro I started to like it better. I am a big Beatles fan like Kris.  The distant perspective and all the trees remind me a little bit of Abbey Road.  The clothes are Beatles 1964.

  • sagi

Look, I like the music I have heard from Kris so far, but I ain’t gonna lie and say I like this cover! It doesn’t scream Beatles to me, it more like makes me think of “It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood…” I am sure we will hear his thinking behind it eventually, it is nothing to rave about IMO.

  • Anonymous

I’m not in love with the cover since selfishly I want Kris’ gorgeous profile big, front and center.

Will I buy the CD, Deluxe whatever ? Yes
Will I anxiously still looking for all Kris informations ? Yes
Will I buy tickets to his shows and lining up early ? Yes
Will I repeat, and repeat all his songs ? Yes
    Etc, etc. So,…
Does it matter if I’m not in love with the tiny picture of Kris on the side ? No.

And thinking about it some more, it is totally Kris. So, great job. <33

Listening at each individual element put together in the production of “The Vision of Love”, you can’t help but wonder of the amount of dedication and heart the team, especially Kris, have given. It’s here you can really appreciate and humbled by, not only the song itself, but by the person behind it. At first listen I thought it was a well crafted and well thought production and, indeed, it is. It’s a piece of gem refined   by time, ingenuity and devotion. It’s classy, artistic and stylistic. How they put together the beauty of acoustic guitar, electric guitar bass, drums, piano, strings and Kris’ big, lead and layered vocals amazes me. Kris really puts heart and love into his craft and that is what we really love about him. I can’t help but remember his Idol moments. I really wish him great success!

My initial reaction to all of this news was a mixed one. The name and cover art have already started to grow on me however. They definitely seem to fit Kris’s personality. :) Also…This has to be one of the least photoshopped major label Idol albums I’ve seen in awhile. Boy doesn’t need it though.

I have a feeling that the album name isn’t based off of a song title or lyric. Same goes for Haley’s. I could be wrong though. Oh, and speaking of Haley….Seriously?! THE. SAME. DAY.? I’m not sure whether I should spaz or sadly shake my head. Why must I be forced to choose between the two? Ugh…Not cool Idol gods. Not cool. Sigh. I could always listen to them at the exact same time. Perhaps they’ll complement each other. lol

I am very excited about his new cd :}  I like the album cover and the title and think it represents Kris perfectly. I also really like the way they are marketing TVOL and his new CD. The remix contest is a really smart way to get in front of a new audience. My son went to a techno concert in Miami and there was over 50K people people each day. It is a huge market.

How typical of Kris to put out a statement (album title) that has us guessing what it means. It reminds me of the tweets he posted about “Leeds”. He never did explain who/what he was referring to LOL. Camellia may fall in that category…gets us to wondering and that’s all we ever get :D

I am so happy we finally have a date to circle on our calendars! If the rest of this album is anything like the music we heard at The Mint show, I’m going to be one happy Kris fan! Well, I guess I’m already a happy Kris Allen fan.

I was rather taken aback and disappointed when I first saw this cover. There was a hilarious music comedy quiz show called Spicks and Specks that aired in Australia for years, and one of the games required the teams to guess the words that had been blanked out on dorky album covers from decades ago. My first reaction is that this would have been a perfect choice for that game.

But having read all the comments, I’m feeling better about it. A while ago when there was a long thread analysing Kris’ single cover to death I kept thinking “For crying out loud! It’s a cool picture, end of story.” But this is a lot more intriguing, and worth the dissection.

And hey, the music’s what really matters anyway. If the cover is a sign that Kris is getting what he wants, that can only be good.

  • judes

Hey Opalruby I sure miss Spicks & Specks . It was a very unique music quiz show.Glad you’re feeling more comfortable about the cover now. I really like the fact that it causes people to stop, ponder & wonder what the cover is all about.

Thank You Camellia, huh? Would love to have been a fly on the wall when Kris ran that by RCA.

I don’t know. I don’t know if this album cover changes anything about him having a very small fanbase/interest level from the general public. So I guess he might as well do what he wants.

  • Anonymous

How could an album cover do that?

Not sure he has a “very small fanbase/interest level”, though. Those are your conclusions. No doubt based on your vast research.

Checking out the buzz on twitter (about the artist and his music) indicates otherwise to me.

  • Anonymous

Thank You Camellia also available on vinyl! Checked out the contest remixes so far like Phil Monnerat and Nick Pinder’s versions.

  • http://twitter.com/doesmonaknow DoesMonaKnow

Kris doesn’t have a “very small fanbase/interest level”. Those are your conclusions. (Based on your vast research?)

I like Kris and I have his first album (my favorite song off it is “Bring It Back” actually), but if he had a bigger fanbase, wouldn’t the sales for TVOL have started off much better? I know he’s not fresh off Idol anymore but others here have commented on adjusting their expectations for his album sales downward after watching TVOL’s progress out of the gate. If that makes me get slammed as some hater, then so be it.

  • Anonymous

    Love the dog. ;)

  • Anonymous

we don’t even know what the sales are for TVOL yet. You are probably going off the iTunes rank, but don’t forget that the single was also available on amazon.com and both online at Wal-Mart and in the actual stores. It has sold out online on Wal-Mart’s site four times and is ranked as the top seller on that site. So the sales could possibly (but not necessarily) be much higher than what you’d expect from seeing the iTunes rank.

  • http://twitter.com/Miztig Miz

I think the graphic on this cover is excellent. As I said in a previous post, that large green area is the perfect spot for stickers and other information.

Evidently quite a few online sites think so too. I’ve seen site logos positioned in that area on at least 3 now. It’s also going to be great for use store print ads.

  • Anonymous

“Bring It Back” is my choice, too.  Great song, affecting vocals – not overdone – like much better than TVOL.  One of the criticisms I have of Kris is that he slurs his words (probably his laid-back personality contributes to this) – when he sings the TVOL title, it comes out “thevizunuhluv.”  For me, too casual for the vibe of the song.

Hope he gets a hit out of it, though.  He and Adam have a struggle to get their music out there.  Dispiriting when so much “rapandcrap” gets played.

  • http://twitter.com/Miztig Miz

girlygirl, I watched and it was all the usual suspects on Extra: Christie Brinkley, Charlie Sheen, Lyndsey Lohan, Oprah and Bobbi Christine. Think they threw some product placement in there too.

No Kris behind the scenes video. :( I hate red herrings.

I will keep DVRing Extra to get to Kris, but I noticed even way before that so often there was an ad for something in Extra, and then I waited and waited and nothing, nada. I thought maybe it was on ExtraTV online, but it is not there either.

Anyway, the cover gets better now. Heh. It is Kris, and Zorro’s expression always cracks me up.

I hope that Kris will start the radio promotions because no matter how great the music is, without it, it won’t come to anything.
TVOL is such a great song, perfect for radio ( not that I’m biased or anything :) )

  • Anonymous

I just don’t think those things are provable unless you have the exact numbers of his “very small” fanbase. Or you can prove the interest level in Kris is small.

Or maybe it’s relative because I would say Anoop Desai has a very small fan base and/or interest level from the public or the media, for example. I wouldn’t say those descriptions apply to Kris. (No offense to Anoop, who I think is awesome and deserves a bigger fan base and/or interest level. Just an example to put your comment in what I think is the proper perspective).

There has been a good lot of interest in Kris’s new music, all you have to do is search twitter,or see the number of media stories about the single or the album.

Finally I don’t think Kris has one of those large, rabid Idol fanbases that has “shifts” of people voting for them in onlinepolls, etc. (Such as I have seen recently with other ex idols.) But so what? he has a broad kind of popularity that involves a more casual fan interest that usually kicks into gear more when they hear songs on the radio or performed on TV or whatever. I’m cool with that, and I do believe that is what the record companies are looking for in a recording artist – long term appeal from a broad spectrem of the population, rather than a devoted fanbase and few others who really like the artist.

    And I don’t think you’re a hater. :)

we don’t even know what the sales are for TVOL yet.

The MP3 is ranked in the mid 1,000s on Amazon right now, so it’s not exactly selling very well over there.

I think that the sellouts at Walmart.com have a lot more to do with how many copies of the cd Walmart was willing to commit to, and not a lot to do with heavy demand.

The size of Kris’ fanbase has a lot to do with promotion, and the same goes for how TVOL is doing right now, that includes radio spins, and Walmart ordering the single and displaying it in their stores.

I won’t get into it, but all of those things that I just mentioned in the previous sentence give us an idea of what others think the size of Kris’ fanbase is.

I loved this cover the minute it saw it
and I still do.  If you are worried about
name recognition, well could it scream “Kris Allen” and more loudly with the
bold, beautiful font at the top of the cover.
I’ve noticed on a number of websites that the name shows up clean and
crisp.  As to the picture and the title,
well to me it just says “Kris”.  It’s a
visual representation of what it is about Kris’s music that speaks to me.

On the lighter side I can’t help but
laugh at the image of Katy behind the photographer holding up dog treats to get
Zorro’s ears all up straight and yelling “sit, stay, sit”.  Dog photography is a hoot.  There are two ad campaigns on tv now that
feature French Bulldogs.  One looks just
    like Zorro.

Yes, It is like the behind the scene video of OK Mag photo shoot where Kris was holding Zorro. Ugh, come on Extra, I want to see the behind the scene video of this one too.

And I love the the TJ Max tv ad. Also I’m watching Modern Family for the dog too even though the coloring is different than Zorro, but the bored expression is the same.

Yes! There’s also a big billboard on I-93 on the way into Boston that has the French bulldog and the dog looks exactly like Zorro.  It was a very clever ad – first, just the dog’s head was made to look like it was breaking through the white paper covering the billboard…Then the paper came off and the ad was underneath…I forget what it was for, but I thought it would have been a great way to do an ad for Kris’s CD. Must get a life, ross.

Some folks here are disappointed or disapproving that Kris is not presented as a sexy lug, on the album cover, because that would make him seem more of a universal sex object or a love object, or “pop star” (same thing, sometimes). That’s probably true, but the single cove is pretty sexy in that way. In fact it might be the first overtly sexy publicity pic that Kris has done. So there’s that.

This album cover could have gone in that direction, but the direction it does go in, I really like. To me it kind of says “thinking man’s sex symbol. Or rather, woman’s Well, either, I guess! Anyhow, it’s unique.

I didn’t give too much thought to Kris’ cd cover except that I didn’t want it to be cheesy. It’s not. So I don’t think it really matters all that much. It does make you think (as does the title, which I love) and I remember Kris saying that he likes to make people think. So mission accomplished.

I saw a review from someone who just reviews album covers. He really liked it but thought Kris and Zorro should be facing the other direction because,to him, it looks like something was cut out.

I hope we get some videos of Kris doing that concert on the plane.I bet if there were only one flight from Denver to LA, some Kris fans would be one it.

I’ll be flying into Denver on Southwest on 4/3 so maybe I’ll see Kris in the airport!

Well, RCA promo was thrilled to tweet that the CD sold out and was #1 in pop in 24 hours, at Walmart. Yet you managed to say it was not due to popularity or demand. That seems rather extreme. I mean – sources?

I don’t believe in exaggerating accomplishments but I don’t believe in minimizing them either. As a fan I enjoy celebrating them when they happen. Just sayin’.

I agree.  Realistically, I’d say the sellouts are because Walmart’s expectations were low, but if I go all Eeyore about it and focus on the low initial expectations, I’ll miss out on the fun of seeing Kris exceed those expectations by a mile.

Like the cover – sophisticated without being pretentious.

I am delighted to report that I grabbed the last copy of TVOL at Walmarts.  My
girlfriend made me go ask if they had any more, but the clerk said, “No, some
guy just bought 3 of them and there aren’t any more in back.”  The remix sounds great! The cd was in an end-cap for new releases. All the top releases were there and there were just 2 empty slots, the ones for Kris!

It does seem like the physical single is selling pretty well.  There were only 3 left at my Walmart when I got mine (and they were also in an end-cap split across two slots).  Plus, it’s sold out on walmart.com again.  I think that’s the 6th time it’s sold out now?

I got my Online TVOL from WM today. And I finally found one in store last Wednesday. I will start preordering the variety of the album tomorrow. I was waiting till April because my credit card will give back 5%. Heh.

So will Kris sing the line “and if your plane fell out of the sky, who would you call with your last goodbye” from LLWD in his concert on the airplane?? That could be awkward!

I’m totally fine with the album cover now. It has grown on me and now I think it’s pretty cool. And I still love the title, but Kris, tell us (eventually) what it means! Mysteries are meant to be solved (like what did the buck t-shirt mean??)! lol

Kris looks attractive and good in his outfit like a model.  The dog is unexpected but cute and amusing.  The cover gives off a vibe of an Indie artist to me though, which he’s not.  But same pose of him alone without the dog and a different background is what I see for mainstream pop-rock singer’s cover like him.  Anyway, I like his first CD and will check out the next.
